Can I feed my cat regular tuna?

Not the pet store stuff, but human stuff. Is that ok for cats?

Once or twice in emergencies. It's a lot of mercury

I've given it to my beloved several times but don't make a habit of it. Every time I open a can of it he demands some!

Only with Duke’s Mayonnaise.

My feral only likes Miracle Whip.

So the canned cat food has no mercury? How do they eliminate mercury from all their seafood dishes?

When I worked for a vet, eons ago to help pay for my college tuition, we only fed small bits of it to help stimulate appetite. A cat that refused everything might eat some tuna, and sometimes it got the ball rolling and they’d start eating again.

It’s high in sodium, too. But a few morsels are okay. We all need need treats.

Just a little, now and then, is okay. But not as a regular diet. Cats need taurine, and that is not present in sufficient quantities in canned tuna but it is added to cat food.

R8. No I won't eat my cat's food as I don't eat fish or meat.

If you loved your cat you would supply it some tasty sparrows to choose from.

R10. Thank god Australia is culling some 5 million feral cats. After this massive cat killing, birds and other little mammals will be safer.

Make sure it's tuna in water, NOT oil. Unless you want some nasty cat shits to clean up.

by Anonymousreply 12May 22, 2021 10:53 PM

It's very salty. I've put it down for my cats a couple times and they go immediately afterwards to the water bowl for a long drink.

I don't think it's a good idea. But as a treat sometimes- when I'm making a quick tuna salad- I'll squeeze the juice into a double bowl and they like that. I think it's packed in chicken broth(?). But again, salt.

Of course.
