It was a flop on its original release but gained cult status on home video. I’d hardly call it a classic. It’s mostly forgotten and probably totally unknown by millennials and zoomers.

The original movie succeeded because of Sean Connery and most importantly, the Queen song, “Who Wants to Live Forever”.

Just because the old highlander wasn’t a blockbuster smash doesn’t mean this will be. The director does have sim promise but we will see. People are saying it will basically be witcher in another costume because of his range an that may be right. You have to remember Withcher is an extremely popular show on Netflix. It was the most popular show on Netflix until Bridgerton dethroned it, and keep in mind it was the most popular show BEFORE the pandemic. Cavil has a ton of fans and tons of people love this genre of movies and shows so him being cast may have actually been a smart move given how much he was loved in the witcher. It’s possible he may not have that much acting range but MAYBE this is his stride and he’s fine with it. I didn’t know much about Witcher before watching it but from what I understand from people who follow the games he 💯 nailed the character on the show which is one of the reasons it was so popular. So if Highlander does take off don’t be shocked.

The original Highlander has the exact same plot as Man of Steel: a reluctant supernatural being in hiding is pursued by a big-city lady investigator who falls in love with him, meanwhile while also being pursued by a psychotic villain of his own species who wants to kill him so he can destroy humanity.

There’s nothing particularly memorable about the original film except its only-in-the-80s aesthetic…. This was done by Russell Mulcahy, who gave us Total Eclipse of the Heart, among other classic 80s music videos.

Why is the Witcher talked about as if it was some major get for him? He was playing superman alongside actors like Amy Adams, Ben and Laurence Fishburn and now does some show that's like a 90s action show with a bunch of barely well known actors. Highlander will bomb and in 20 years he will be doing the convention circuit with the occasional guest star in some cult show, as a nostalgic throwback to when he was nearly relevant but mostly because he's a cheap get.

A show that only airs every 2 years with such weak writing isn't anything to brag about, I mean at least other shows that do that cycle have pretty strong writing so there's an excuse for it.

You know it only had such a long hiatus because of the pandemic, but that doesn’t suit your narrative so it’s convenient to forget.

Jeez this has been in development hell for a decade, Ryan Reynolds was going to star ten years ago.

Ultimately the problem with this role, unless it's drastically rewritten, is that the character is merely sad/reluctant to be in the position that they are in, which they have no choice, which is exactly the same as his Superman or his Geralt. At least if he was a werewolf or a vampire in the same situation, there would be some pathos and turmoil.

Hopefully this role involves plenty of nudity for Cavill,
