Olivia Colman, who can do it all. Comedy, drama, she even sings well.

Julianne Moore

by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 21, 2021 2:51 AM |
Wow - Kate Winslet is the leader by far. I am surprised people think she is leaps and bounds above the competition. I thought old queens would Meryl by a landslide.

I'd add Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.

Where's Sissy Spacek?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 21, 2021 3:08 AM |
I think Olivia Colman was a real oversight but I actually think Kate Winslet is a dark horse... she was fortunate enough to break through early and she's got the skills to last. Very diverse.
She could generate some interest as Norma Desmond if they're really determined to do the damn thing, but she's quite a high soprano.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 21, 2021 3:09 AM |
R12... Meryl is dowager, emeritus, ultima. You know Meryl. And I think Meryl's done, even in her own mind. She has nothing to prove. She's doing what amuses/interests her.

Laura Linney

SA, in addition to being in lockstep on another great matter in other threads ;), I think Kate Winslet's worst performance was Titanic and who could really pimp that jello salad? She's talented.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 21, 2021 3:16 AM |
Oooh r28 I wonder what other great matter you are referring to??!
Yes when I think of all of Kates films and which ones she gave great performances in Titantic is definitely not in the top hapf.

Toni Collette

by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 21, 2021 3:33 AM |
I voted for Kate Winslet. Unlike most actresses she doesn't play it safe--she's done a variety of roles and never phones in a performance. There's a reason why at 45 she has a good chance of becoming only the 4th actress to EGOT.
Just look at any of the 7 performances for which she was nominated for an Oscar. None of them are remotely similar.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 21, 2021 3:41 AM |
She has the triple crown of working with Polanski, Woody and Harvey.

Whatever basic bitches are saying Kate Winslet are basic bitches because TITANIC is all they've seen.
Kristin Davis shouldn't even be on the poll. That's a joke, right?
The correct answers lie between Meryl Streep and Viola Davis. Y'all are IGNORANT.

What the fuck is that overrated piece of shit, Nicole Kidman doing in the poll ?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 21, 2021 4:23 AM |
I agree with your two picks, op.
Ranked:
1. Lange and Streep - These two are my favorite actresses of all time. Icons, legends, goddesses. They are my Yin and Yang. They complete me and each other.
2. Blanchett - A powerhouse who never ceases to thrill, rivet, and amaze me.
3. Kate Winslet - I love her and don’t think she gets the credit she deserves. She’s fabulous.
4. Julianne Moore - Always authentic and engaging and a joy to watch.
5. Viola Davis - A bit one note at times, but the depth and well of emotions she brings to her performances is admirable.
6. Nicole Kidman - She can be interesting and authentic, but a bit try-hard at times. The only film I’ve truly loved her in was “Rabbit Hole”.
7. Kristen Davis - She’s fun, perky, and surprisingly effective when she wants to be.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 21, 2021 4:25 AM |
Anya-Taylor Joy is shaping up to be our greatest actress. She's on track to be the next Meryl Streep.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 21, 2021 4:26 AM |
Winslet. Out of the gate with Heavenly Creatures. Underrated because Titanic was credited to Cameron and DiCaprio. Girls went to see it repeatedly because they identified with Winslet. No one else on this list could do that plus Eternal Sunshine, Mildred Pierce, Little Children, The Reader, and make it seem real. Blanchett is great but she's camp and theatrical. Theron relies on stunts or big personality characters.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 21, 2021 4:34 AM |
R49 Well Kate carried Titanic and received the lead actress nomination for it.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 21, 2021 4:46 AM |
Winslet's Oscar win for The Reader is one of the least deserved ever. She's made some really, really terrible movies, like The Holiday, The Mountain Between Us, Insurgent, The Dressmaker, Labor Day, Wonder Wheel, The Life of David Gale, A Little Chaos, Finding Neverland, Carnage, Blackbird, Allegiant, All the King's Men, Movie 43...
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 21, 2021 4:47 AM |
Winslet isn't a director or producer, R51.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 21, 2021 4:49 AM |
Kristin Davis? Now THAT'S a horse of a different color.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 21, 2021 4:51 AM |
Girls that should’ve been on the list and are worthy of touching the hems of Streep and Lange’s gowns:
Tilda Swinton
Annette Bening
Charlize Theron
Frances McDormand
Glenn Close
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 21, 2021 4:54 AM |
Where are Renee Zellweger and Julia Roberts ?
Seriously? They belong on OP's list about as much as Kristen Davis does.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 21, 2021 5:01 AM |
People forget Winslet turned in 2 of the best performances of the year when she won her Oscar. She won a Golden Globe and SAG Award for Revolutionary Road, and a BAFTA and SAG for The Reader.
By the way, I don't think any other actor has one two film SAG Awards in the same year.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 21, 2021 5:02 AM |
r55 Julia acted circles around Meryl (who is in the poll ) in the only movie they acted together.
And Renee's best actress win is the best in the last two decades.

How did this poll suddenly go from Kate to Jessica? These polls never match reality.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 21, 2021 5:04 AM |
Outside of DL, I've never heard anyone acknowledge Jessica Lange's existence.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 21, 2021 5:08 AM |
R57 Oh, cut the shit. Jules was fantastic in one scene where she screams at the top of her lungs and wrestles the pills from Meryl, and that’s it.
Admittedly, this isn’t one of Meryl’s strongest performances - she struggles with playing rage and depression - but she’s still fun, hilarious, heartbreaking, and captivating. On her worst day Meryl is better than Jules on her best.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 21, 2021 5:09 AM |
I withhold my judgment.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 21, 2021 5:11 AM |
Meryl, along with the most esteemed thespians and revered awarding bodies, have been “acknowledging” Jessica for over 30 years, Matt.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 21, 2021 5:11 AM |
I just want to say “Thank you for this honor.” I shall cherish it always.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 21, 2021 5:15 AM |
Also, Jane Fonda and Ellen Burstyn should’ve been on the poll.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 21, 2021 5:16 AM |
Where is La Zadora, bitches?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 21, 2021 5:18 AM |
I voted Jessica Lange who has a certain charm and realness. I actually find Meryl to be kind of robotic or overly studied/obvious.
Lol at that Julia Roberts wasn't even included in the poll.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 21, 2021 5:27 AM |
I would rank based on whether I would watch:
1. Meryl and Kate 2. Cate 3. Nicole 4. Viola 5. Don’t care

Actually I would watch Nicole over Cate. I like Cate but sometimes she is off. Nicole won me over with Big Little Lies.

Nicole is crazy but I have to watch her. Not everything but most of her shit.
Titanic... Girls went to see it repeatedly because they identified with Winslet
My distinct memory of the time was standing in line at a check-out behind 3 school-age girls who were perusing the tabloids. "Eeeww, Kate Win-SLUT. How can Leo possibly be dating that cow. She's so ugly, she must have fucked the director to get the part". More likely that Titanic fan-girls returned because DiCaprio got them all wet.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 21, 2021 9:35 AM |
R69 I'm sorry, Big Little Lies was terrible, both seasons. Dern's antics being the only redeeming elements. The script, all the male parts, Kidman & Witherspoon, so hackneyed and predictable. HBO then follows up with an even worse Kidman-Kelly production, the Undoing, and now there's yet another on the way? American viewing audiences can use the pandemic as an excuse for lazily consuming some of this - but really their taste is all in their ass.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 21, 2021 9:41 AM |
R72 That was supposed to be a question. Those movies aren't terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 21, 2021 12:43 PM |
Julianne Moore from this list, though Sissy Spacek is my personal favorite. Wonderful, inventive actress with a terrific filmography (Badlands, 3 Women, Carrie, Coal Miner’s Daughter, The Straight Story, and In the Bedroom just to name a few) and a beautifully expressive face.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 21, 2021 12:43 PM |
I like Julianne Moore, but she's cheapened her brand by refusing to say "no" to every script waved in her face. For every Short Cuts, The Hours, or Children of Men, there's a Body of Evidence, The Ladies Man, or Evolution. She even won her Oscar for a fundamentally shitty movie that was only made watchable by her performance.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 21, 2021 12:49 PM |

Jess Lange just grips her neck and talks with a quiver that gives vulnerability to her toughness. Meryl can do so much more. And is a lot better looking. Lange looks harsh.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 21, 2021 1:29 PM |
R83 That’s late-career AHS Jess and not even, lol. Constance, Sister Jude, Fiona, and Elsa all had varied physical language. She’s not Nicole Kidman, who just sighs and looks constipated.
Streep also has her tics - fidgeting with her nose, ears, and lips; darting her eyes, etc. - which I also love.
Lange could not have done Sophie’s Choice, Into the Woods, or Florence Foster Jenkins, just like Streep would not have pulled off Frances, Sweet Dreams, or Blue Sky. This is why I love them: nobody but the other can top them.

A lot of the responses come down to personal preference. But let’s look at the facts:
Meryl Streep: 3 Oscars (2 BA, 1 BSA), 3 Emmys, 8 Golden Globes (+1 Cecil B DeMille Award), 2 SAGs, 2 BAFTAs
Jessica Lange: 2 Oscars (1 BA, 1 BSA), 3 Emmys, 1 Tony, 5 Golden Globes, 1 SAG
Viola Davis: 1 Oscar, 1 Emmy, 2 Tonys, 1 Golden Globe, 5 SAGs, 1 BAFTA
Julianne More: 1 Oscar, 2 Emmys (1 Daytime, 1 Primetime), 2 Golden Globes, 2 SAGs, 1 BAFTA (1 GG honoring entire cast of Short Cuts not counted)
Kate Winslet: 1 Grammy, 1 Oscar, 1 Emmy, 4 Golden Globes, 3 SAGS, 3 BAFTAs
Cate Blanchett: 2 Oscars (1 BA, 1 BSA), 3 Golden Globes, 2 SAGS, 3 BAFTAs
Kristin Davis: 1 Emmy NOMINATION, 1 Golden Globe NOMINATION (2 SAGs honoring entire cast of SATC not counted)
I think the facts speak for themselves: Kristin Davis is in a league of her own!
by Anonymous | reply 88 | May 21, 2021 2:32 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 21, 2021 3:11 PM |
I actually think Julianne Moore is awful half the time. So miscast in that recent woman in the window. Someone with her name recognition didn’t even need to be cast in that mess. Perfect part for a talented character actress. Rudin is an idiot with his over adoration of “stars.”
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 21, 2021 3:17 PM |
Julianne Moore’s Woman in the Window performance was basically a caricature of her Maps to the Stars character

Nicole Kidman: 1 Oscar (BA), 1 Emmy, 4 Golden Globes, 1 BAFTA, and 1 SAG (does not include Emmy or Golden Globe for producing Big Little Lies)
If it matters, Meryl and Julianne are the only 2 who’ve won Best Actress at Cannes...an honor they share with such film legends as Kirsten Dunst, Diane Krueger, Björk, and 2-time winner Barbara Hershey (I’m being a little bitchy, but unlike Kristin Davis, Hershey has an Emmy and Golden Globe, and she’s been nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA)

R108 Cate is better than the other two you mentioned and fully deserves her spot on this list. There’s a reason she is the third Best Supporting Actress winner in history, after Streep and Lange, to win Best Actress. (I can’t defend Zellweger’s ascension to this level, especially when considering Judy Davis’ unparalleled work as Garland.)
Cate has the goods.

It amazes me how persistent you are, R123. Your posting history reads like the demented, hate-filled writings of an obsessed stalker. I picture you looking and acting like Buffalo Bill, struggling to get your look just right, as you stare at marred photographs of Lange in her youth on your walls, whispering with seething fury, “I’ll show you sexy, breathy, horny, you ugly, talentless BITCH!”
Alas, when it dawns on you that your look isn’t so much perfected as defective, you go into a blind rage, ripping her pictures before making your way down to the basement toward your latest victim, assuring yourself, “It puts the lotion in the basket or gets the hose today!”
My god, Matt, don’t you [italic]ever[/italic] [bold]stop[/bold]?

by Anonymous | reply 134 | May 21, 2021 9:04 PM |
I love Sigourney Weaver, but her track record isn’t great:
Sigourney Weaver: 2 Golden Globes, 1 BAFTA
It honestly seems like she’s actively disliked by her peers. Sigourney won several awards for Best Supporting Actress in 1988, yet she lost the Oscar to Genes Davis, who wasn’t even nominated for a Golden Globe (there’s a possibility she and Michelle Pfeifer split votes that year). Then in 1999, she was nominated for several awards for The Ice Storm, and even won a BAFTA, yet she wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar.

Next season of the Crown was supposed to be the last, and Imelda Staunton was due to be the last one to play Elizabeth II. It wasn’t until Season 4 had concluded that a Peter Morgan felt a sixth season is necessary. And the intent is to ask the actors to carry on the tradition of doing 2 seasons in their roles.
So, no, I doubt Helen was asked to do The Crown. If anything, the last episode of The Crown will neatly segue into Morgan’s The Queen.

You've got it backward. Originally, six seasons were planned; now, next season will be the last. Morgan or whoever says that's because he realized season 5 would take the show to a perfect stopping point, but I suspect maybe he'd also prefer to avoid sticking his fingers into the current BRF mess.

Lange and Streep split the eldergay vote, which allowed Kate Whatshername to take the lead.

Blanchett is the greatest movie star on that list. If you've ever seen her on stage, it's as if she's arrived from some distant mystical plane to grace us mere mortals with her golden presence. She glows, and is every inch the star. I don't think I've ever seen another actress like her.
But the greatest actress on that list is Kate Winslet. I watched the second episode of Mare of Easttown a few days ago, and while she's effortlessly brilliant in all of it her acting in the scene with Drew's paediatrician is absolutely fucking phenomenal.
I'd also add Toni Collette, Lesley Manville, and Olivia Colman to the list. Colman, in particular, can do anything and make it look as easy as breathing.

Whoopi Goldberg spoke a bit about how it felt being nominated. I wish the clip was longer; it seemed she had more to say about it to Oprah. She did say, however, that so many people thought she just might win (for Color Purple), and she implied that she began to believe it, too.

Is Kristen Davis the new Vivian Vance? She’s appeared in several DL polls recently.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | May 22, 2021 10:21 PM |
Kristin Davis is completely worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, and Kate Winslet.
They are all actresses between the age of 40 -75, who have appeared in films and television programs.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | May 22, 2021 10:25 PM |
I recently saw an old Interview magazine with Meryl on the cover. She looked stunning, like a great beauty, which she really is not. She is chameleon-like and has skills the others really can’t approach. Her director in Sophie’s Choice said she was speaking perfect German, but with a Polish accent. In my opinion, she wins...
by Anonymous | reply 185 | May 22, 2021 10:55 PM |
Kate Winslet could play nail all the Meryl Streep's roles/characters. Meryl Streep couldn't do the same when it comes to Winslet's roles.

Got to say Winslet is unusually "brave" when it comes to her physical appearance in the HBO Mare series. Lots of less than flattering close-ups, some almost uncomfortable to watch. Can't see any of the other names on the list paring things down as far. Cate Blanchett might give it a try, hindered by her natural glamour.

by Anonymous | reply 198 | May 25, 2021 12:11 AM |
R198, Tootsie was released nearly 40 years ago. Should Dinah Manoff be in the running for greatest living actress for appearing in Grease and Ordinary People?
by Anonymous | reply 199 | May 25, 2021 12:14 AM |
R199, that's an idiotic attempt at a comparison. Neither of those films were dependent on Manoff's performances, while both of Lange's films were dependent on hers and she was Oscar nominated for both.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | May 25, 2021 12:18 AM |
Even if she won an Oscar for Tootsie, the role was rather forgettable. Actually, regardless of who won, many people consider Teri Garr’s performance more memorable.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | May 25, 2021 12:25 AM |
R201, she was singled out for acclaim by virtually EVERY reviewers and won a number of awards besides the Oscar. Garr was fine in the film, but it wouldn't have become a classic without a jaw-droppingly beautiful actress of Lange's caliber as Julie.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | May 25, 2021 12:27 AM |
Fact: Jessica Lange gave one of the best performances of the year in 1982 in Frances, but the Oscar for Best Actress was going to go to Meryl Streep for Sophie’s Choice. Giving her the BSA Oscar was a way of giving her an official consolation prize.

You're obviously lying. Her work in Frances was one of the greatest performances of all time. Her work in Country was naturalistic in a time when that wasn't in vogue. Her turn as Patsy Cline was a star performance that was stunning, Pauline Kael touted her for Best Actress for the NY Film Critics. She scored six Oscar noms and countless other honors. You're an idiot by any standard.

Lange has received enough love, praise, and accolades from all quarters and generations to cover a few lifetimes. What I love most about Magisterial Lange is that she doesn’t give two fucks about any of it. She’s never been that hungry. The worship and adoration has come effortlessly to her.

R215 Reduced? He begged her and then centered the series on her, making casting (Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates) and location (New Orleans) decisions based on her specific requests. He also allowed her to have input in the creation of her roles while paying her top dollar to play them.
Also, she had just separated from Sam and was looking to get her mind off of their failed partnership after having had her passion for acting reignited the previous year with her Emmy winning work in smash hit “Grey Gardens,” which garnered 17 Emmy nominations, winning the top five prizes, including Best Miniseries.

R218 Quentin Tarantino wanted her (and loves her) for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but she slipped through his fingers when there were scheduling conflicts and she chose to honor her commitment to Murphy. Another actress would’ve been like, “Girl, BYE!”

Lange did what all the great dames - Davis, Crawford, De Havilland, Page, et al. - had done before her and delved courageously into the oft-feared horror genre and did so marvelously, winning every award under the sun for her work and becoming a pop culture icon in her mid-60s.

R256 Considering how much you post and comment about her, you must be referring to yourself, dear.

As this thread proves, there's a reason Nicole Kidman has been banished to television.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | May 26, 2021 3:46 AM |
You are the one posting the same gifs and videos on her in hundreds of threads. I am always happy to call you out. Does she pay your membership fee to incessantly repeat your adoring fan posts and constantly promote her?
by Anonymous | reply 259 | May 26, 2021 4:27 AM |
R251 No I don't. That was a script somebody gave me to read. I've only met the woman once and barely know her.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | May 26, 2021 4:28 AM |
R259 All one has to do is take a gander at your posting history to see how obsessed you are with trashing Lange. It borders on pathological at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | May 26, 2021 4:55 AM |
And just to fuck with you, I’ll post Streep fangirling over Lange again, though I’ll limit it to her on-camera adoration. God knows I’ll be here all night of include her mentions of Lange in print.

A little over six months ago. It seems like Streep is a “#langeloon” too, lol.

Shirley MacLaine on Lange:
Off set, Jessica was sweet, a pro, not social, beautiful, intense, and a brilliant dramatic actress. I liked her a lot and assured her she would be funny. We had many conversations about the men in our lives, which will certainly not be shared here.
I don’t have any idea what happened with Jessica that particular day. What concerned me was what effect the disruption would have on Jessica’s performance. We had a dramatic scene to play in the hot sun, a scene in which she was supposed to cry. We absolutely had to get the scene within the hour or we would fall behind and there was no money to cover a reshoot. Jessica pulled herself together. Andy yelled, “Action.” Without a moment to prepare and with a jittery crew looking on, Jessica was brilliant in the scene and cried exactly on cue. I couldn’t believe it. “Cut!” I said, “Jessica, you are good, good, good. How did you do that?” “I guess I have a well of sorrow in my life,” she answered with a little smile. I thought of Misha Baryshnikov and Sam Shepard, but I didn’t ask one single question. I knew I was in the presence of a great actor.

Patti Smith, another loon, wrote the introduction to Ms. Lange’s first book of photography.

R281 Not nearly as many times as your stunted, retarded ass has felt the need to repeat the same old tired disparaging remarks about Lange in thread after thread. Admit it, Matt, you’re obsessed with her, and you’re not even a fan of her work. How pathetic you and your life must be, lol.

This poll has been humiliating for Nicole Kidman. She's in last place, getting fewer votes than Kristen Davis.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | May 27, 2021 10:52 AM |
If this had been the old DL Kristin Davis would be winning this by a landslide. Too many frauen have invaded DL now and are voting for the predictable, dull, frau favorite Streep.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | May 28, 2021 7:48 AM |
I've never heard of Kristin Davis. Just checked her out on the internet and turns out she is one of the stars of Sex and the City so that explains that.

Judi Dench is up there with the very greatest, I think. Her Queen Victoria in Mrs Brown was an amazing perfomance, capturing that wildness that comes with intense grief. She was a little too old for the role, but I don’t think anyone else could have added so many colours to that performance: entitledness, haughtiness , grief, insecurity, and rage.
I also like the fact that she doesn’t take herself too seriously and does any role that interests her, sonshe’s as likely to appear in James Bond as in Shakespeare.

Probably Maggie Smith or Glenda Jackson or Eileen Atkins.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | May 28, 2021 4:09 PM |
I'd agree about Judi Dench. I saw Emma Thompson today and thought she's believable and versatile too. I can't come up with any actress or actor who is both believable and versatile really.I know the ones I enjoy watching but I don't know who is great.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | May 29, 2021 5:58 AM |
Emma Thompson is a self important woke twat. Very typical of the 'do as I say not what I do' type.

R296, you misspelling of my given name is one of the million ways in which I suffer on a daily basis. It's spelled V-i-o-l-a, not J-u-d-y. Why do you want me to cry again?
by Anonymous | reply 297 | May 29, 2021 11:24 AM |
Viola and Judy Davis are both great actresses.
Viola appears to be a decent person.
Judy is a known cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | May 29, 2021 11:43 AM |
Is Judy a bigger cunt than the cuntiest Miss Davis known to man, R298?
by Anonymous | reply 299 | May 29, 2021 11:45 AM |
One occasion where Judy Davis' cuntiness was justified was when the drunk fool Jack Palance read out the names of the nominees for Supporting Actress and then proceeded to say that for the first time ever in Academy history, all five nominees were foreign. He then added that four of them were English (he was referring to Joan Plowright, Miranda Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave and Judy Davis) and the fifth was a foreigner from a place called Brooklyn (Marisa Tomei).
The Australian Davis was seen rolling her eyes at being lumped together with the English actresses by the ignorant American.

Dame Angela.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | May 29, 2021 11:53 AM |
R300 Rolling her eyes was one amongst a series of grimaces, and mutterings to her companion. But cunt or no, overall she seemed to take the nationality slur, the loss - and even Palance flubbing her first name - pretty good naturedly. Miranda Richardson appeared to be the cunt, but was probably just nervous as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | May 29, 2021 10:11 PM |
Jessica Lange is so great, she bottomed out for two decades before Ryan Murphy threw her a bone. And can you really make a convincing case for either oscar being well deserved?
Streep is the definition of white privilege. Everything post 2007 is going to age like shit. Forty oscar nominations, and 90% of them for mediocrity. Maybe McDormand tying Hepburn will light a fire under her ass.
Glenda Jackson, Maggie Smith, Debra Winger, Annette Bening, Anjelica Huston , Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Faye Dunaway, Laurie Metcalf, Jean Smart are all, BRILLIANT.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | May 29, 2021 10:57 PM |
While I agree Streep needs to up her game, she does have films in recent years that I would recommend:
Doubt (2008)
Julie & Julia (2009)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
It’s Complicated (2009)
The Homesman (2014)
Florence Foster Jenkins (2016)
The Post (2017)
Little Women (2019)
Let Them All Talk (2020)
by Anonymous | reply 304 | May 30, 2021 3:41 PM |
Honestly, considering their statuses in the industry, their countless professional and general public admirers, and all that they have overcome and achieved, denigrating Streep and Lange not only seems inane, it also indicates a bad case of sour grapes.

by Anonymous | reply 306 | May 30, 2021 6:18 PM |
Alfre Woodard can play anything. She's about as well rounded and versatile as you get! No one mentioned her or Vanessa Redgrave (Judy Dench, though? Really?!). Why? That's all I want to know, why? They've done nothing to harm any of you and yet there you all are.
My dismay notwithstanding I voted for Jessica Lange. I prefer her overall approach to drama. It's raw and feral and real to me. Her characterization of Mary Tyrone in "Long Days Journey Into Night" slayed me, it resonated with me for a good two days afterward.
Kristen Davis? OP? Why that? Vivian Vance is normally used as a placeholder in polls here from what I've observed.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | May 30, 2021 6:39 PM |
R307, Kristen is the new Vivian.

by Anonymous | reply 314 | May 31, 2021 4:11 PM |

Um...hello? Haven't you people seen my sublime performances in a hit television series called "Suits"??? And if that isn't enough proof, you should have seen me in one of Oprah Winfrey's latest productions. I really excelled there.
It would be too vulgar to sign this post with my title, so I'll use the name I'm known in the industry.

J’ACCUSE, R317 - You are an IMPOSTER!!! There is no way the real Duchess of Sussex, Baroness Killkeel, would ever be caught using that common Markle name ever again, and it is LITERAL VIOLENCE that you have put such words in her mouth. Why, you may drive the poor dear to another of her states of deep despondency.
To be fair to you, you are right to suggest she is a great actress though: she put on a wonderful performance for a few months when she convinced millions here in the UK that she was a nice, likeable person!
