Benidorm-The British ITV show now streaming on Britbox
The show is so funny, especially the earlier seasons. It really skewers middle class Brits who stay at an all-inclusive Spanish resort and expect all the comforts of home.
Who are some of your favorite characters? I couldn’t get enough of the Garvey family and Donald and Jacqueline Stewart. Womanizing Bartender Mateo is hot and was shown in a late night romp with a male guest
There are so many other great characters as well. What were some of the funniest moments in your opinion?

Middle class Brits wouldn’t be seen dead in the kind of hotel shown in Benidorm. They would prefer to go to a Parador.

What did you think of the gay characters? Troy was ok, but Gavin seemed to be too much of a stereotype screaming queen. I know the characters are all hugely exaggerated, but Gavin wasn't funny. By the time Kenneth came around, I think that Derren Litten, the writer, finally found the right mixture of comic bitchiness, flamboyance, party boy and bossy bottom.

There are suggestions that Darrin Little and Jake Canuso are in a long term relationship.
Not a fan of Johnny Vegas, but Noreen was great, as was Pauline the alcoholic.

Litten used Canuso in his next show, Scarborough, which bombed. I don't understand this relationship because Canuso is sexy and Litten is pasty white Brit. What's the attraction?

Hilarious show. I wonder why ITV canceled it when it was such a big success for them? Was Little going to be #me too'd by some male extras or cast members? As mentioned Scarborough on BBC was canceled and he gave up on TV production and opened a Bar in Mallorca only for Covid-19 to close it down.

Love love love this show. Jacqueline is probably my favorite and I die whenever she says “Oh, yes!”
It makes me almost want to go and see Benidorm for myself. There is a place in the US state of South Carolina called Myrtle Beach that sounds very much like the American equivalent and it can make for a trashy-fun weekend if you’ve never been.

I wish this would come on Netflix or Hulu.

OP, these are not middle-class Brits by any means. Benidorm and the Costas are where the chavs go. And if they're not quite chavs when in England, they turn into chavs in Spain.
This show is the kind of thing that couldn't be made today.

Because the later seasons became stupid. Tyger and Joey were the stupidest characters on the show. Fat Sam was annoying. And Billy, Sherron, their parents and their children just weren't the Garveys. The only reason to watch the later seasons was to see if they would put Josh Bolt in a speedo.

As R10 said, it was cancelled because it was tired.
It was great when it started, and it was refreshing to see common people on TV.

Whatever happened to the US remaking it with Americans vacationing in Mexico?

What was the backstory of Kenny Ireland and his death? One season he was declared dead, but later it was just scam and Donald was still alive only to be dead for real the next season?

Danny Walters did very well out of the show.

Yikes. Is anyone as badly behaved as British chavs on vacation? American spring breakers get rowdy but they don't generally riot and destroy public property.

I liked the Garveys. However, the family needed a proper foil. It was too bad that the Dykes were only a one season family. Hannah Waddingham (Septa Unella from Game of Thrones) was hilarious as foul mouthed trophy wife.

I love that it's the same actress (Janine Duvitski) who played mousy, sexless Jane on [italic]Waiting for God.[/italic]

R16 It's like trying to talk to someone whose boss-eyed with them nips, very disconcerting...

Even though both Steve Pemberton and Steve Edge weren't handsome men, they had a certain "daddy" quality that made the father sexy. Perry Benson, who played the Dyke father, was just butt ugly. They shifted the sexy to the wife (Waddingham) but it needed to remain with the husband.

"Benidorm" sounds like the name of an allergy medication.

I don't find Steve Pemberton sexy at all. He's a fantastic actor though. Steve Edge on the other hand is cute enough.
Perry Benson being with someone as hot as Hannah Waddingham was completely bonkers. But it worked so well since Waddingham's Tonya was totally crazy and by the end of the season you kind of got the feeling that she was the one who was the lucky one who got a rich husband who humors her crazy. Then the following season they had divorced, and it all fell apart.

Madge was the best. The writers gave her some great lines.
When she sang karaoke to “Up, Up and Away” while unknowingly on drugs, I could not stop laughing. In fact, the karaoke in general created some great moments. It was like a show within a show.
