Actor Jeremy Irvine considered for Gay Superhero role

HBO Max’s upcoming “Green Lantern” series is eyeing actor Jeremy Irvine for the role of Alan Scott.

Irvine would join Finn Wittrock in the series, who has been cast in the lead role of Guy Gardner. HBO Max declined to comment.

Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. He was created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by trade, Scott derived his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. He later joined the Justice Society of America, and in universe-hopping adventures would sometimes team with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan.

Give the role to an out actor! It's even a second lead, ffs.

by Anonymousreply 3May 20, 2021 4:42 PM

Sexual orientation should not decide acting roles, or any job. It’s called Nondiscrimination, a bedrock principle of civil rights and law

by Anonymousreply 4May 20, 2021 11:43 PM

Being woke is all about discrimination. Only some people can say certain things, cook certain foods, create certain music, and play certain roles.

by Anonymousreply 5May 20, 2021 11:46 PM

I choose to think he’s very gay and will be riding my cock in the near future.

by Anonymousreply 6May 20, 2021 11:49 PM

NO unless he is gay. A gay superhero needs to be played by a gay actor.

by Anonymousreply 7May 20, 2021 11:51 PM

Agree. Why can the breeders go between both and be considered "brave", and gays can't even get gay roles, let alone straight ones?

We need to start boycotting the type of actors who do it consistently.

by Anonymousreply 8May 21, 2021 2:47 AM

I don't really agree with woke casting rules, but if those are the rules now, then they should apply to gay roles too. No more straights camping it up, or straights acting straight to present a palatable gay character.

You need a masc gay? Cast a masc gay actor. Need a somewhat effeminate gay, cast a somewhat effeminate gay, etc...

Screaming because Scarlett Johansen was cast as a trans, but being silent when a breeder plays gay is hypocrisy.

That rabbit hole just goes too deep. Are wigs and hair color forbidden? Should an actor born and raised in Minnesota be prevented from playing a character raised in New York or LA? Where is the bottom of this?

by Anonymousreply 9May 21, 2021 2:56 AM

This model is Jeremy's doppelgänger except he has a better body.

by Anonymousreply 10May 21, 2021 11:48 AM

Out actors are discriminated against. I don't see the issue with some redressing the balance.

by Anonymousreply 11May 21, 2021 12:29 PM

Berlanti has a terrible history with casting gay men for gay roles (he directed The Broken Hearts Club and Love Simon).

by Anonymousreply 12May 21, 2021 12:32 PM

No more closet-cases playing openly gay characters!

by Anonymousreply 13May 21, 2021 12:40 PM

I always confuse him with Joe Alwyn. Which one of them dated Taylor Swift? Cuz that’s tantamount to being 'out', isn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 14May 21, 2021 12:45 PM

[quote] Sexual orientation should not decide acting roles, or any job. It’s called Nondiscrimination, a bedrock principle of civil rights and law.

The problem is no matter how much better an openly gay actor is at the audition, a straight actor is considered more bankable, making a bigger profit. And even IF an openly gay actor is cast you get the haters and trolls who insist the openly gay actor is "clearly" miscast because of some "woke" bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 17May 21, 2021 1:29 PM

Great, another awful Berlanti series.

by Anonymousreply 18May 21, 2021 1:41 PM

The guy in R10 is good looking, but shut the fuck up with the pseudo psychological spew. Just get your kit off and pose. No one is interested in your pontificating. Who do you think you are, Dr Jake?

Insufferable

by Anonymousreply 19May 21, 2021 1:45 PM

I meant pseudo philosophical spew.

I'm not fully awake yet

by Anonymousreply 20May 21, 2021 1:46 PM

Another Berlanti casting couch endeavor I won't be watching.

by Anonymousreply 21May 21, 2021 1:49 PM

I’m more annoyed they cast a brunette as Guy Gardner, who’s is probably the most well known ginger in comics with the possible exception of Jean Grey. Also, why not make John Stewart the lead? I suppose they are saving him for movies?

by Anonymousreply 22May 21, 2021 1:59 PM

A brunette = a lady.

by Anonymousreply 23May 21, 2021 2:02 PM

[Quote] probably the most well known ginger in comics with the possible exception of Jean Grey

Say what?!

by Anonymousreply 24May 21, 2021 2:02 PM

well that's some bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 25May 21, 2021 2:04 PM

They should only cast actors with supernatural crime fighting experience.

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2021 6:15 PM

I think everybody should play any role, but in case of superhero roles i think a gay superhero should be played by a gay actor basically because they avoid hiring gay actors on most of those movies

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2021 6:16 PM

Jeremy needs to show everything, cock and ass.

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2021 6:19 PM

In other threads, people have bitched endlessly about a perceived lack of gay male characters on TV.

In this thread, not a single positive comment.

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2021 6:50 PM

DL isn't a cheerleading site.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2021 6:54 PM

R29 The show has a gay showrunner, it wouldn't be that difficult to give a prominent gay character to a openly gay actor.

Berlanti seems a nice guy, and yes, he hires gay actors on his shows (but never as main characters) but he is terrible at writting gay characters

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2021 7:28 PM

Why hasn't Jeremy done nudity?

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2021 8:06 PM

[quote]I don't really agree with woke casting rules

I'm not sure why people find it so difficult to wrap their heads around the idea that people should have equal chances to be cast for any role.

Gay actors aren't treated the same as straight actors.

When it comes to the super hero genre they definitely aren't treated the same.

Casting any actor in any role indicates that the production thought that actor was the best actor for the job. When people complain about these kinds of castings to me it says that they believe that the actor cast wasn't the best person for the job.

[quote] (but never as main characters)

Greg Berlanti hired openly gay actor, Matt Bomer, to play "Negative Man" on HBO Max's, "Doom Patrol." That character is a main character and wasn't originally gay in the comics.

Other than that, Berlanti hasn't.

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2021 8:33 PM

Is there something for Colton?

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2021 9:51 PM

[quote]Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man.

Someone pointed something out that I had not considered. There are different versions of Alan Scott: Earth Prime and Earth-2. Earth Prime is straight, the rebooted Earth-2 is gay. This series seems to be using Earth Prime Scott, unless they're doing a Convergence storyline scenario.

The synopsis of the HBO Max series - Based on the DC Comics property, the show was first announced in 2019 and was ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with Scott, and then heading to 1984 with cocky alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

by Anonymousreply 35May 23, 2021 2:33 AM

Just realized that "Jeremy Irvine" played "Danny Winters" who was gay in "Stonewall." He's also playing a gay poet in the upcoming movie, "Benediction." So if he's straight and playing another gay role here then maybe he and Darren Criss should compare notes.

by Anonymousreply 36May 23, 2021 4:20 AM

Jeremy is so gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 37May 23, 2021 4:25 AM

R36 Or he can make a Lucas Hedges and come out as something, maybe he could said that in second grade he had a dream with a boy and that makes him not completely straight. Usually that's enough for gay press to call you brave

by Anonymousreply 38May 23, 2021 10:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 39May 23, 2021 1:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 40May 23, 2021 2:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 41May 23, 2021 2:59 PM

It should be mandatory for gorgeous people like him to show cock

by Anonymousreply 42May 23, 2021 3:03 PM

What if his cock is disappointing?

by Anonymousreply 43May 23, 2021 3:05 PM

Jeremy should pre-empt this controversy and say he's queer. Who cares if he's only ever had heterosexual relationships!

by Anonymousreply 44May 23, 2021 3:12 PM

Bisexual (for attention) women are a turn on to the mainstream. Not so bisexual men.

by Anonymousreply 45May 23, 2021 3:19 PM

R45 IN fact bisexual woman were a trend of the past, right now if a bi woman comes out she better be really bi.

For men they like to play ambiguous, so queer is the trend, generally comes out as queer (because they want to avoid criticism for playing too many gay roles) and inmediately they start to date a woman

by Anonymousreply 46May 23, 2021 6:54 PM

[Quote] if a bi woman comes out she better be really bi.

Proof?

by Anonymousreply 47May 23, 2021 6:55 PM

[Quote] For men they like to play ambiguous, so queer is the trend

Not really. Even Harry Styles is on record as saying "Pretty sure I'm not" when asked if he's bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 48May 23, 2021 6:55 PM

R48 The trend between the ones who come out, Styles is nothing more that the typical gaybaiting star like Nick Jonas but less attractive

by Anonymousreply 49May 23, 2021 6:59 PM

The pretty actor from 9-1-1: Lone Star, Ronen Rubinstein, came out as bi.

by Anonymousreply 50May 23, 2021 7:01 PM

R50 He is an exception.

He came out when everybody supposed he was straight because he has a girlfriend.

And the fans loved him before coming out, so there's absolutely no pressure for him to come out

by Anonymousreply 51May 23, 2021 7:04 PM

We don't know that. Plenty of people in the public eye come out to get ahead of an outing story.

by Anonymousreply 52May 23, 2021 7:06 PM

Right now outing stories are linked to scandals and coming out doesn't solve that situation (unless the actor is accussed of raping a woman, i suppose in that case it would be useful)

Noboy is outed right now just for the sake of it, and even less if he is in a relationship with a woman (even if it's fake)

by Anonymousreply 53May 23, 2021 7:10 PM

Loony stans started to ease up on Joshua Bassett over the straight love triangle rumors once he implied that he might be queer.

by Anonymousreply 54May 23, 2021 7:12 PM

[quote] Right now outing stories are linked to scandals and coming out doesn't solve that situation (unless the actor is accussed of raping a woman, i suppose in that case it would be useful)

It most certainly didn't help Kevin Spacey when he got metoo'd by guys.

by Anonymousreply 55May 23, 2021 7:12 PM

Joshua Bassett is gay, there's no 'love triangle'. At least not with two women.

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2021 7:15 PM

[Quote] Noboy is outed right now just for the sake of it

Nobody has ever been outed just for the sake of it. It's always been a power play. Look at Zac Efron: His ex gf gave uncomplimentary quotes about him to a Danish podcast but they haven't been picked up internationally. Another foreigner (a veteran actress) badmouthed Adam Driver and her comments WERE picked up internationally. Efron has more powerful people willing to kill stories about him than Adam Driver apparently does.

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2021 7:15 PM

[Quote] Joshua Bassett is gay, there's no 'love triangle'. At least not with two women.

He just said that his DMs are open to Harry Styles and only Styles... He doesn't identify as gay.

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2021 7:17 PM

Hollywood doesn't give these rolls to gay actors. They want to attract women. People can stop with the "it doesn't matter the actors sexual orientation" because you know it does, gay actors need not apply.

by Anonymousreply 59May 23, 2021 7:19 PM

[Quote] Hollywood doesn't give these rolls to gay actors.

Good. Gay actors need to watch their figures.

by Anonymousreply 60May 23, 2021 7:20 PM

[Quote] Hollywood doesn't give these rolls to gay actors. They want to attract women.

Bridgerton Season Two is said to centre around Jonathan Bailey. We'll see how that works out.

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2021 7:21 PM

Yes, but that show is not a superhero show, iit's main audience are women.

And Joshua Bassett didn't came out. He was trying to be edgy and show how open minded he is and that backfired big time.

Of course he can't retract now and say it's a joke because that would be worse, but in a couple of months he'll finally figure out his sexuality and will start to date a nice girl

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2021 7:28 PM

[Quote] that backfired big time.

How so?

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2021 7:39 PM

Jeremy, take your pants off and show the goods!

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2021 7:51 PM

Jeremy is hot. Loved him in the mess that was Stonewall (the movie). My first choice would be an openly gay actor in the role. But if it ends up being a straight one, Jeremy is not a bad choice. At least he's hot.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2021 8:02 PM

R63 Because people thought he was just coming out as gay (that's what happens when you title the video my coming out)

by Anonymousreply 66May 23, 2021 8:38 PM

He didn't title any video. And he's received more attention on the launch of his new single than he he did for any previous ones. He pretty much did a Lucas Hedges. No harm done to his brand.

by Anonymousreply 67May 23, 2021 9:01 PM

Not to derail the thread, but anyone with eyes and some common sense can see that the constantly crying Joshua is gay.

by Anonymousreply 68May 24, 2021 4:20 AM

Coming out as “bi” nowadays doesn't really cost celebrity actors anything. There will be no cameras placed in their bedrooms to determine the veracity of the claim. No one is going to call them out for never being seen with a guy and only dating women. Their bisexuality will recede from memory, only to be resurrected as a shield when necessary. In the interim they’re still celebrated and endowed with a je ne sais quoi patina of edginess that lets them loosen the bounds of strict heteronormativity (e.g. Harry Styles) even as they continue to live completely straight lives.

by Anonymousreply 69May 24, 2021 4:55 AM

Irvine? A nice Jewish boy?

by Anonymousreply 70May 24, 2021 5:09 AM

Real name Jeremy William Fredric Smith. Not a Jew.

by Anonymousreply 71May 24, 2021 5:16 AM

r69 And then there are those disgusting cunts like Harry Styles, who try and tease people about it so they can get attention, money, and pussy. We need to boycott them out of Hollywood (especially Harry, since he stole a gay role in a movie while doing this shit).

by Anonymousreply 72May 24, 2021 8:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 75May 26, 2021 3:06 AM

Dudes come out as mostly straight now, meaning they are overwhelming heterosexual but acknowledge rare and exceptional attraction to extremely attentive males

by Anonymousreply 76May 26, 2021 3:35 AM

I just discovered this deliciously sexy Brit. I hope he becomes a huge star! We need to see him naked and to show his feets!!

by Anonymousreply 77May 11, 2022 8:58 PM

If straight actors can’t play gay roles anymore then their oscar chances will be reduced.

by Anonymousreply 78May 11, 2022 9:04 PM
