Why do famous women who come out inevitably shift to gender neutral pronouns?
Demi Lovato, Halsey, etc. Why are women in their 20s refusing to embrace the lesbian, bisexual, or gay label?
It is really perplexing to me that the younger generation is far more boxed into gender norms than my generation in the sense that they don’t seem to think we’re allowed to have same sex attraction or dress a certain way without it automatically implying gender non-binary. Since when we’re we not allowed to have feminine and masculine energy within us without it meaning we have to have a different label for that?

It's a fad, OP. The more of them start coming out as "non-binary" or "they" the less special it will be, so let them all be non-binary theys, that's exactly what's going to kill off this ridiculous fad.

OP, girls are coming into womanhood in a 24/7/365 rape/porn culture. It's no mystery that they are not happy about being treated like slabs of meat. But thinking that you can individually identify out of oppression is not only naive but cruel (are not all the other women worthy of full humanity, too?). The only real answer is to stay and fight collectively, as many gay men know all too well.

The gender neutral/non-binary stuff is absurd. They think they're escaping the "rules" of gender and refusing to be put in a box by limiting themselves to be one thing or the other. But I think they're doing the exact opposite. I feel they're saying there's only one proper way to be a man or a woman. If you don't fit the mold then you aren't a woman or a man, but non-binary. I don't agree with that.

In Woke circles, it's unfashionable to be a woman! Or at least a white woman. Anyone who goes around being a white woman in those circles gets dismissed as "privileged", and changing the pronouns and nothing else gives them trans cred, a place in the Victim Olypmics, and the right to be taken seriously.
Of course anyone who's been living in the woke bubble is going to find mainstream reality a nasty shock. Sexists and bigots don't care about pronouns, they'll despise anyone with the wrong accent, skin color, or genitalia regardless of what they identify as.

R1, think about what you've said and try and work out if it makes sense or not (clue - it doesn't).
They/them can and is used to describe a singular ALL THE TIME in the English language, and the only time anyone seems to have a problem with it is when it's used to describe a NB person.
Here's some examples that you have probably used or will use in future, just so you understand that what you've said is nonsense:
"I heard R1 is dating someone new, have you met them yet?" --- "Did you see what they looked like?" --- "There was a really great candidate in the interview today, I think we're going to hire them." --- "From the day they were born they have always been a nightmare."
Do you get the point yet? Gender neutral pronouns are used to describe singular all the time and claiming that they aren't and that you will not use them just makes you look like a fool.

Actually r37, in all the examples you give I - and most people - would use he/she, depending on the gender of the person being referred to. The "they/them" you are talking about is usually when a person is unknown or no specific individual is being referred to and that abstract person could be either male or female.
This bullshit "they/them" for a specific known, named individual is nonsense. We do not use "they/them" all the time in the English language to refer one specific known individual who is sitting in front of us. Some people are trying to force that through, however. Those people are also trying, whether wittingly or unwittingly, to push a certain nefarious gender ideology upon us, that at its root is misogynistic and homophobic.
Demi Lovato is a great example of how the people who claim to be "non-binary" and demand to be referred to as "they/them" are in fact a fucked-up, attention-seeking mess. Do you really believe that Demi Lovato is genuinely "non-binary", whatever that is, and that this "coming out" as an enby isn't a sign of her general, and very deep and severe, mental health problems?

R38, in Demi's case I suspect she's actually bisexual at the very least if not a complete lesbian but has such internalised homophobia she can't simply accept it. She's basically said it and admitted that her engagement to a man was to try to prove that she was ok. Even though she knows she likes sex with women and doesn't like sex with men, she still can't accept that she's a lesbian and it's absolutely fine to be a lesbian, so has to wrap everything up in this psycho-issue.
Demi, girl, you can be a woman and like sucking pussy. Be proud and happy about it and enjoy yourself!
[quote]“I hooked up with a girl and was like, ‘I like this a lot more.’ It felt better. It felt right,” Lovato said. “Some of the guys I was hanging out with—when it would come time to be sexual or intimate, I would have this kind of visceral reaction. Like, ‘I just don’t want to put my mouth there.’ It wasn’t even based on the person it was with. I just found myself really appreciating the friendships of those people more than the romance, and I didn’t want the romance from anybody of the opposite sex.”

While not a famous woman, a member of the management where I work a few hours a week as a part-time stylist, a young woman about 28ish, "came out" as they/them a few months ago. The company has gone a bit too woke over the past year & after a brief meeting about recommending products from black owned businesses before recommending any others (no joke) she announced that she had an announcement, then served us a half hour's worth of word salad about her personal epiphany. I really don't know this person beyond dealing with her in the limited capacity that work requires. Our jobs just don't require that our professional paths cross as often as with others. I do know she's a lesbian & that she's on top of any SJW cause with hubristic authority. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago. I've refused to address her, to her face or to others, by her they/them pronouns, instead calling her by her name. I'm just not indulging that game. This bitch actually has the nerve to ask me if I have an issue with her pronouns because she senses some tension. Now, I talk with this woman about 10 minutes of the 20 hours I put in a month at this place, so for her to confront me with this was simply pompous & frankly unnecessary. All I said was, "You have an issue with being called by your first name, is that what you're telling me? If so, this conversation belongs in personnel with your superior mediating." She's since dropped the "issue" & we haven't spoken since. I hope she & all these attention-craving celebrities soon realize that not everyone ducks when we realize blanks are being fired as if they're machine gun ammo.

R51/r53, the whole point of "announcing their pronouns" is to make all of us, the entire rest of society, pay attention to them and change our whole language and basic beliefs about fundamental aspects of what it means to be a human being, such as our literal body. On top of that, they also demand that we all declare our pronouns.
Demi Lovato is a woman, a female and her pronouns are she/her. Any attempt to make me believe otherwise is an attempt to force me to follow their gender ideology, which I don't agree with.

I don't have a problem with using peoples' preferred pronouns, I'm just concerned that in younger generations, there will no longer be gay/lesbian-identified women and no community. It's already pretty isolating being a gay woman because a lot of gay women fly under the radar and aren't all involved in their community locally. If the younger generation doesn't feel "safe" to be a gay woman and it feels safer to claim the nonbinary label, what does that say about our society? It's regressive to think women can't have ANY masculine energy or else they need a new label and vice versa.
Gay men, do you see the same thing with the younger generation of same-sex attracted males?
