LeVar Burton is co-hosting CBS This Morning and unfortunately, he a'int ready for Jeopardy

LeVar is co-hosting the show with Gayle King. He's his usual nice, soft-spoken LeVar Burton self, but he's choppy and doesn't seem to do very well with live television and without a traditional script. I just can't see him hosting a game show, especially a smarty-pants game show. And he's got rings on every other finger and a huge dangling earring. There's no way he's a fit for Jeopardy.

Bill Whitaker from CBS... If anybody saw him on last week, HE'S the new host. Perfect for it.

by Anonymousreply 34July 27, 2021 2:58 PM

LeVar is a better fit for Gayle's ego. Drew Barrymore took over that table and you could tell Ms. King was ready for her to go.

No, just no, unless their main sponsor is going to be Red Bull, because that's what the audience will need to get through an episode with his sleep-inducing style.

by Anonymousreply 2May 19, 2021 2:51 PM

OP, you must be joking. Bill Whitaker seems like a nice enough man, but as Jeopardy! host, he was a complete dud. His transitions were slow as hell, and he barely interacted with the contestants.

I agree about LeVar though, who comes off way too thirsty (same as Aaron Rodgers). I found him difficult to watch on CBS this morning, stuttering and licking his lips every thirty seconds. Maybe he'll surprise me when his Jeopardy! episodes air though.

Of all the guest hosts they've had so far, I like Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen the best.

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2021 2:59 PM

Big veto here on Bill Whitaker. He is unwatchable.

Of those so far, I'd go with Mike Richards followed by Buzzy Cohen and maybe Anderson Cooper. Maybe.

by Anonymousreply 4May 19, 2021 8:21 PM

Damn he seemed like he'd be such a good fit and is known to younger people from RR and STE. R3 did he get to host? If so, maybe he will be better than on an interview.

I have no pro nor con for L Burton. It just seems he suddenly popped up as the preemptive Trebek successor in his own mind, but really no one else's. Did I miss something here?

🎶Butterfly in the skyyyy,

I can go twice as high,

Being a bat, is where it’s at,

I’m gonna eat you 🎶

LeVar will guest host Jeopardy in August!

by Anonymousreply 8May 20, 2021 12:25 AM

I liked Bill Whitaker not because he seemed like some energetic spring chicken, but because he came off as stable, his responses to the answers were steady and natural, as compared to someone like that fool Aaron Rogers who paused five seconds every fucking time someone answered and clearly is a lot more intelligent in his and his publicists' minds than he actually is. Sure, he doesn't have Trebek's gravitas but he comes across better than most of them.

by Anonymousreply 9May 20, 2021 12:31 PM

His BEST role was Jordi La Forge ( I'm not sure I'm spelling the name correctly).

by Anonymousreply 10May 20, 2021 1:09 PM

R6 I was baffled by it too but the more I looked into it the more it just seems like astroturfing from LeVar Burton. Some of the threads on Reddit about him hosting jeopardy featured a lot of comments from accounts with no posting history. It’s definitely strange because he has no connection to jeopardy and no one even knows how he’d do as a host. It’s obnoxious. I hope it’s anyone BUT him.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2021 1:13 PM

Off topic Drew Barrymore has become very annoying but I think she’s aging nicely and has a good stylist. As for LeVar I am still rooting for him. I hope he can pull it off but I sort of doubt it.

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2021 1:17 PM

So far, I'd prefer Ken Jennings or Mike Richards.

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2021 1:42 PM

Thankfully, Jeopardy is pre empted because of the Olympics this week. Fuck you Levar. Go away!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 14July 26, 2021 5:10 AM

I heard his first day was a disaster. Are his Twitter stalkers saying he should still be host?

by Anonymousreply 15July 27, 2021 4:33 AM

R15 I’m sure his Black fans are because they insist he should get it even though he sucks.

by Anonymousreply 16July 27, 2021 4:46 AM

I can't take a stab at spelling her name but Amy Farrah Fowler did a good job.

by Anonymousreply 17July 27, 2021 4:50 AM

Lavar got fat and old. No thanks.

Rooting for Mike Richards.

by Anonymousreply 18July 27, 2021 4:52 AM

Mayim is still the best so far. And then Buzzy and Mike.

by Anonymousreply 19July 27, 2021 4:58 AM

LaVar hosted Jeopardy for the first time this evening...he's really awful. Does this weird stare at the camera right before breaks, and made a mistake so they had to refund the money taken from a player. Definitely out of his league; I think he needs to be told every word to say.

by Anonymousreply 20July 27, 2021 5:07 AM

NO to Levar. No no no!!!

by Anonymousreply 21July 27, 2021 5:11 AM

I was rooting for him I guess because of my sentimentality over Reading Rainbow but he not a fit and he looks like a silly old coot with all the jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 22July 27, 2021 5:27 AM

The problem is he set himself up. Too much hype. Let the Twitter crazies go wild and all the press he did was some of the most transparent and desperate campaigning since Melissa Leo for the Oscar for The Fighter.

by Anonymousreply 23July 27, 2021 5:35 AM

A’int?

by Anonymousreply 24July 27, 2021 5:41 AM

Jeopardy has a demographics problem: its viewers are too old. Neither BW or LVB is going to solve that problem.

by Anonymousreply 25July 27, 2021 7:25 AM

[quote]LaVar hosted Jeopardy for the first time this evening...he's really awful.

He was nervous and his wife was pretty upfront with him when he asked her how he did.

[quote]I came backstage after taping the first episode and I said to Stephanie, ‘Well, how did I do?’ She said, ‘ehhh.’ Now, this is a woman who loves me enough to tell me the truth. She said it wasn’t me.

He said after that he just tried to be himself.

[quote] It just seems he suddenly popped up as the preemptive Trebek successor in his own mind, but really no one else's. Did I miss something here?

Yes, you did.

He made a joke about hosting years before Alex was sick after he won Celebrity Jeopardy. Years later, some fans brought him up. He heard the chatter and said he'd love to do it. If the fans hadn't gotten him so much attention with the possibility of him hosting he wouldn't be here. Also, yes, he was thirsty for it but he's also an actor and that's how they get to do anything, especially at his age. This is the most attention he has gotten in forever He accepted the interviews about it which I'm sure he didn't schedule himself. The media jumped on it and he went with it.

The problem is he didn't seem to realize that he's famous for his acting and not for his being himself unless you count Reading Rainbow which only proves that he is good at talking to kids about reading.

If I were him I would have shaved and then tried to remember the lines for the parts he has to talk and not ask questions at least for the first episode. Reading a teleprompter is another skill that has nothing to do with him memorizing a script.

"[R15] I’m sure his Black fans are because they insist he should get it even though he sucks."

Black people don't watch Jeopardy.

by Anonymousreply 27July 27, 2021 9:22 AM

R27 You’re so stupid you can’t even quote correctly.

by Anonymousreply 28July 27, 2021 9:54 AM

Yes, r6 and all the folks who WWed you, you missed something. People on social media started suggesting Burton as a replacement during a time when a lot of people were being suggested, and the Burton suggestion took off. It was a few days later when Burton himself responded that he'd love to have the job.

There's been some kind of weird push on Datalounge to make it seem like LeVar Burton started this himself and I don't know why. Many of the articles written about it go into detail about the timeline. I guess it's just the usual "lying because I hate them" thing that we get here.

by Anonymousreply 29July 27, 2021 10:09 AM

LeVar Burton has a WIFE?!

by Anonymousreply 30July 27, 2021 10:17 AM

Thank God! Jeopardy is pre empted here this week because of the Olympics. I can’t watch Levar and his mess of a week. Hallelujah!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 31July 27, 2021 11:46 AM

I don’t like him. Never liked him or that stupid Reading Rainbow show either.

by Anonymousreply 32July 27, 2021 12:07 PM

R28 is correct. Here's proof.

Yes, but I can't remember what his name is, though.
