Of all the big country houses to inherit, Althorp would be very low on my list, but one doesn't get to pick one's parents.
It's big and showy but without much finesse or confidence, and the state rooms are deadly correct and dull. I'd carve out some rooms for a visit now and again and whore the place out as a tourist attraction even more than is done now. It seems to pay well and I'd much rather live more privately in another, better house or two or three, not so imposing, not so in the spotlight, not so boring, and not so wrapped in Diana'r Land Attraction Park.
