Why did we sleep so hard on O-Town?

I was just thinking about how Ashley does Broadway etc now in NYC and I wonder how he’s coping while it’s all shut down.

R3, that's what I was going to say. O-Town arrived too late to the game. Boybands were on their way out and so was Lou Perlman.

And because they had a corresponding documentary reality show, it seemed like they were even more fabricated than other boybands, which is really saying something.

It was also kind of disorganized. Didn't they have like 9 members at first? No teen pop group ever needed 9 members, especially considering that none of them knew how to play instruments or write songs.

Wasn't there also a girl group, with a similar show, around the same time period? I'm going to have to consult Google.

R9 yes, Edens Crush, which is where Nicole Scherzinger originally came from. It was the show “Popstars”, which was the American version of the UK show that founded Girls Aloud.

O-Town had 5 members. They started with thousands and worked down to the 5. There was a different fifth member that then quit so Dan replaced him. The rest of the guys in the comp didn’t want Ashley in the group because he couldn’t dance much and struggled the most vocally, but Lou Perlman wouldn’t have it any other way, because like with all his other boy bands, there needs to be a “face” for them, which tends to be the youngest member who happens to be blond etc.

He better be careful training near those windows.

Ashley was cute, but Erik-Michael Estrada was always the hottest one to me. He still looks good too, has not aged much at all!

I watched a grand total of one episode of Making the Band, and it was a surreal experience. I had several wisdom teeth pulled earlier that day, I was drugged up, and I recall being very irritated that it was called Making the Band, when they were a singing group. I also remember getting very upset when I got some blood on my pillowcase.

Ashley certainly has kept it tight, and I do appreciate the way he flaunts his body.

I actually find Trevor, the sexy blatino, hot. But he has aged. But back when the show was on and they “made the band”, I found him HOT!

I remember watching Making The Band, and I remember none of the guys minus like 1 or 2 wanted Ashley to move forward. But he kept on. I think Jacob was the only one truly happy to see him make the final 5. The rest were nice, of course, but they felt he would slow them down.

If you watch Lou Perlman picking the 5, when it gets to Ashley they have a voiceover from a fucking Producer, and he says it all without meaning to. Ashley was picked because his look will “sell sell sell”.

Each time a guy is picked you see one of the other guys saying something nice. With Ashley, you get a Producer voiceover. He was a plant in the group by the Execs and the rest of them knew it deep down.

And he’s the one they don’t speak to in modern day. The rest are all close friends.

And LOL at the black guy by the end. He knew he wasn’t getting picked and was over it 😂😂😂

Ikaika was originally in the group. He was the first person chosen. He left the group after chosen because his family felt he was too good for a boy band and would be huge as a solo star. That’s when they brought Dan in.

R14, yeah, I know they ultimately whittled it down to 5 band members, but for a while it was too many that they didn't know if they were going to keep or not.

Millennium entertainment(and fashion)was so commercial and weird. I remember everyone was wearing Tommy and Tommy Girl cologne and perfume, gel-based body glitter, stiff crunchy hair gel, oversized Nautica shirts and hoodies, Bebe shirts, flat silver and gold chains around their necks, Parasuco jeans if you were really hood, Ecko hoodies, Nike Cortez, basketball shoes and Adidas Superstars. Baby blue and silver was everybody's favorite color.

I felt so alienated by all that shit, even though I was credited with starting some of those trends. I was a tall, skinny skinhead punk that skateboarded, not a clone with streaky blonde highlights and hoop earrings.

It was the first Makng the Band and yes Ikaika was chosen then his family announced the family was "recalling" Ikiaika. Suddenly Dan was put into the group. Lou tried to tie them to NSYNC but they were not having it. Because they were so thrown together NSYNC thought it made them look like OTOWN.

They have a song called “Girl” on their debut album I always loved, and still do. I heard it the other day and fell right back into my 14 year old self listening.

I'm pretty sure Ikaika left because his family had heard bad things about Lou Pearlman and didn't want Ikaika getting involved with him. I think something similar happened with another guy, Paul, who made it to the top 8, but then dropped out. Supposedly his family knew Lance Bass's family and was warned off of getting involved with Pearlman. Ikaika and two of the other rejects formed a group shortly after the show, but it clearly didn't go anywhere.

Re: Eden's Crush, I'm pretty sure the girls named themselves. They tossed around a bunch of ideas including "Eden" and "Crush" and eventually just merged two of their favorites. I always found it funny that after thousands and thousands of auditions they couldn't find a fifth member and then suddenly found Maile Misajon after just a few more auditions. I'm guessing she was already known to some of the music execs involved in the show and the extra auditions were just for show. I also remember that Taryn Manning and Camille Guaty both tried out for the group—neither made it as a singer, but both had decent acting careers after. The second season was a total flop and the band never even released an album. Although Josh Henderson has gone on to a pretty successful acting career.

It's kind of like how most straight girls get all done up with makeup and "going out" tops when they're trying to meet guys, but it's other women who like that look, not most straight men.
