My cousin birthed two kids via surrogate in her mid to late forties, she had no viable eggs, they used donor eggs and her husband's sperm. Like Naomi, she's wealthy. She's also youthful looking, full of energy, and I have to say, now in her early fifties, a terrific mother. Those kids have every advantage and they are well loved. Her own mother lived into her nineties with all brain cells intact. If that's the case with my cousin, she will live to see her sons through college and into adulthood. Hopefully, all good parents will live to see their kids grow up, no matter what their age.

Shonda Rhimes talked about this in her book when she wrote a chapter about her nanny.

As a single parent with demanding job she's able to do that job because the kids have a constant presence around them besides her. She actually went into a whole bit about how celebrities sometimes hide their nannies and pretend as if they do it all themselves. She disagrees with that. She owns it.

She said something like, "You can't have it all, if you're succeeding in one part of your life you're failing in another." However, if you have enough money you don't have to give up your dreams or your paycheck to raise a child by yourself. She gets how privileged she is and the kids will get a good home with a mother that encourages their creativity and who works and when she's not around her nanny takes over.

Many single parents would kill to have someone to turn their child over to, that they trust, if they're having a bad day or they need to go out and work on something that will take a lot of time. As long as the kid has someone around that cares about it, they'll be fine.

50? Like others have said, I'd be surprised if she had the kid themselves or even used her own egg.. The likelihood of getting pregnant reduces to 5% at age 45-49 for women.
