Vito Schnabel, who isn't much to look at, dated both Elle McPherson and Heidi Klum.
His father artist/director, Julian Schnabel, who also isn't much to look and has been obese for years, has married and dated some amazing looking women himself.
One of Julian's wives was Spanish actress Olatz López Garmendia and he was involved with attractive Palestinian activist/journalist Rula Jebreal. He had twin sons with Olatz. He had three children with his first wife: Vito, Lola and Stella. Julian has six children total,
Julian's current wife, a Swedish interior designer, Louise Kugelberg is in her 30s, he's 69.
Between the ex-wives, five children with his ex-wives and the Danish model he had a son with, Schnabel had better keep this millions coming in!

R159, I didn't realize Schnabel had moved on from the much-younger Danish model. I don't get why any woman would commit long-term to a guy with 6 different kids from various relationships, dealing with the individual issues of the kids, the sibling dynamics and all the exes, etc. Jude Law is a similar case. Six kids by 4 different women and well past his acting/career prime. Not appealing boyfriend material. I could see maybe hooking up on occasion with a guy like that, but "this never happened," got it?

[quote]I didn't realize Schnabel had moved on from the much-younger Danish model.
Most of these women who date and marry very wealthy famous men, look like clones. There is very specific type of women these basic looking rich men date and marry.
These women don’t look the same facially, but they are mostly shapely much younger sexier women, usually models, who date/marry out-of-shape much older unattractive men who have millions/billions. It’s obviously a trade-off, the woman's youth and beauty for the man’s money. This situation is as old as time.
These rich men, must surely know, deep down, they’d never get those types of women if they weren’t rich.
Look at most of these extremely wealthy famous men, can you name a handful who are extremely attractive or at least on the same physical level as their trophy wives? I can't. Most of these straight wealthy men are as repulsive as Harvey Weinstein.
Look at the wonky-eyed weirdo Jeff Bezos, not one can convince me he’s good looking. Money doesn't magically make an ugly person 'hot'. Of course, the gold diggers and rent boys would say otherwise.
I laughed out loud at the nonsense Weinstein's ex-wife Georgina Chapman said about him. She was singing his praises, called Harvey charismatic and other superlatives. Seriously?

Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. And then Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas.
Apropos of Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett, I think people forget that, before that, she *almost* married Jason Patric AND Kiefer Sutherland, and after that, was with Benjamin Bratt (who seemed long "on the verge" of breaking out of the cop-show grind) for a long time.
Sigourney Weaver has been married to (semi-unknown director/actor) Jim Simpson since 1984. I didn't know that in the first place, let alone forget it.

by Anonymous | reply 182 | May 18, 2021 12:04 AM |
...I just wiki-searched Amy Irving and learned, to my horror and amusement, that before she married Spielberg, the two had dated, but then broken up after Irving had an affair with her "Honeysuckle Role" co-star WILLIE NELSON. Seriously...? Amy, Amy, Amy.
R180, I totally get that younger/comely women trade on their looks to land rich guys, even stank-ass ugly ones. But a rich guy who's paying 3 alimonies and a ton of child support, that's going to see his assets carved up like a Domino's pizza when he dies, is not (it seems to me) a good way to achieve this dream. There are rich men out there without 6 kids. Plus, even if they get a ring from a guy with multiple prior offspring, it is highly likely that some or all of the guy's kids will hate (and fight) them when all is said and done. It's a lose-lose for any truly transactional gold-digging type.

[quote][R180] Artists' women are a whole unique subcategory.
No they’re not, gold diggers will be gold diggers, it doesn't;'t matter what field a rich straight man works in. I've worked in the NYC art scene for many years, I deal with these people. A friend owned three galleries, I’ve heard tons of stories, especially about Julian.
Besides the women listed, Julian Schnabel had affairs with important female art gallery owners. Just like in showbiz, it’s all about connections and what a GF/BF or spouse can get out of the situation, whether it be status, connections for their own career or just plain wanting to live off a very rich person.
Attractive charming women always parlay their looks for security and lots of money, it doesn’t matter what field the rich unattractive man works in.
In the art world, it's even better for the ugly rich man if his wife is charming, has a great personality and is capable of chatting up collectors and others who are important to the artist husband's dealings.
A man can look like a literal troll, as long as he’s got a big fat wallet, these women are quite happy being a trophy wife, if only for a short while.

Never watched Grey's Anatomy in my life, I wasn't a SATC fan, I watched a few episodes each season, hoping it would stop being about sad women who needed a man to fulfill their lives. Samantha had the right idea.

Woody Allen and Louise Lasser. And he was married to a woman named Harlene Rosen (not a celebrity) in the 1950's even before that (he referred to her in his early stand-up act as "Quasimodo." Real nice, asshole). The man is ancient.
I googled Melanie. According to her own memoir, she started dating Don Johnson when she was 14 and he was 22. She says she slept with Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson and Ryan O'Neal, all three of them, "back in the day" (I guess she means "when she was a teenager.").

Some of these situations were deliciously messy. Take R19's Cher and Gregg Allman - she married him just 3 days after finalizing her divorce from Sonny Bono. Then she filed for divorce after just NINE days, citing his issues with heroin and alcohol - before getting back with him for 2 years.
Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen - married 8 months before they separated. Fred said that he was a "terrible husband" while Elizabeth said that it was "extremely traumatic and awful and horrible".
Nicolas Cage filed for divorce from Lisa Marie Presley after just 3 months.
Gary Oldman's marriage with Uma lasted 2 years while he's on wife number five now. I think he might fancy Elizabeth Taylor's record (8 marriages, tho two were to the same man).

I still want to know why Renee Zellweger filed for divorce from Kenny Chesney. They'd met in January 2005, married in May, then divorced in September. She'd cited 'fraud' as the reason. They did a bunch of backtracking when the public thought that might have meant he was gay, saying that it was just a legal term and that they'd not had the same view of the relationship.

Barbara Sinatra persuaded Frank to petition the Vatican to annul his first marriage to Nancy, making their three adult children nonexistent in the eyes of the Church.
Tina wrote about it in her book on her father.
He never even told them. A photo of Frank receiving Communion was published, which raised suspicion among the family, since he had never been able to receive Communion before as a divorced man.

r214, I still don't understand how does having had 3 children make the marriage invalid from the 1st place?
by Anonymous | reply 215 | May 18, 2021 9:02 PM |
R215 You mean from the Church? I don't know. .. I believe it's based on proving that it wasn't a "True Marriage" to being with. .. A person obtains a "Canon Lawyer" and provides evidence to a Church tribunal with things being decided on a case by case basis. .. And of course, there have been rumors that annulments could be bought for the right price. .. The PDF document at the link provides information on the process.
Also, the link says this about how the Church views CHILDREN from annulled marriages:
[quote] What about the status of children in annulled marriages?
[quote] This can be difficult to understand. If there is no true marriage, the Petitioner or Respondent may feel that the children must therefore be seen as illegitimate, a situation which could cause much distress. However the Church regards them as legitimate because they are born of what is called a ‘putative’ marriage (one which was assumed to be a true marriage). In any case, even if the marriage was not valid, it was lawful up to the time when a Decree of Nullity was issued and the children were born within a legal marriage and so are legitimate.

R260, I think they were odd because Kate Hudson was really young and in "first flower" as an actress, and she not only hooked up with this Jack Daniels-y kind of guy but actually married him and had a kid very quickly. At the time, it was an unusual thing to do. He wasn't an A-lister or glamorous. His band's music was forgettable.
It wasn't a Gwyneth and Chris Martin thing, although I thought that was kind of a weird hookup for other reasons (she was so WASPy, he was so British musician-y).
