Yadda, yadda, yadda. The critics always hate horror, anyway.
I’m going to see Chris Rock play against type and how they reinvent this massive franchise.

I saw the film and it's captivating in parts but what is really interesting...
Minor Spoilers
The main villain is woke. I'm surprised that all the critics who make a point to mention the politics of the movie never mention the fact that we're not supposed to agree with the villain or feel like their actions are justified. It's true that Jigsaw's motivation in the earlier films was driven by morality, but the whole point was that he lost his way and started murdering and maiming just for the hell of it.

R1 = completely full of shit racist.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 14, 2021 5:17 PM |
R2 Have you seen the film? Explain what you mean.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 14, 2021 5:19 PM |
Also, r1 doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
I wonder why he goes around DL denigrating every woman and minority and advocating the immediate citizen murder of any BLM protestor, looter or immigrant if he’s so against “killing for the hell of it.”
Psychotic Troll Fail.

Maybe we're not supposed to agree with the villain, we're only supposed to enjoy the torture he inflicts on his victims.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 14, 2021 5:20 PM |
R4 Never once did I do any of those things. I just gave my opinion of the movie which I saw. As far as I know we are meant to sympathize with Chris Rock's character, who plays a cop, and others he works with.

I really don't understand "torture porn". It is kind of sick. IMHO
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 14, 2021 5:27 PM |
Saw’s “torture porn” tends to have some suspense, intrigue and good lessons in it.
It’s definitely more than just Rob Zombie flicks.

I saw it last night. It was what you'd expect - suspenseful, gory, definitely a message, and a very underwhelming ending.

Who the hell upvoted R2 and R4. Still have no idea what the fuck they were trying to say.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 15, 2021 5:00 AM |
Probably r2 and r4

How did you feel about the twist involving Amanda Young's mother, r1 and r9?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 15, 2021 6:39 AM |
Was a longer, more convoluted title unavailable?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 15, 2021 6:49 AM |
Why did Chris Rock’s career go straight down the shitter?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 15, 2021 6:51 AM |
From the looks of Chris in the movie, it was meth.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 15, 2021 6:58 AM |
I liked it. The motive was vengeance. Nothing "woke" about it.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 15, 2021 8:57 AM |
Any dongs presented?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 15, 2021 9:02 AM |
Is the term "done to death" in the review? If not, it should be.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 15, 2021 9:15 AM |
Is this the black version?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 15, 2021 9:31 AM |
R1 why make up stuff? Idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 15, 2021 10:41 AM |
Chris Rock is a terrible actor. He always looks like he’s about to burst out laughing.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 15, 2021 10:48 AM |
I liked it - nothing special or memorable, but entertaining. Movies don't always have to be about Meryl Streep giving up some kid or letting it get eaten by dingos. It was worth it just to see Max Minghella get sweaty a few times.

I don't think critics hate horror.
I think it's hard for them to warm up to a movie called Saw [bold]9[/bold].
I suspect they wouldn't be crazy over the release of say The Shape of Water 9 or Nomadland 9 either.

I haven't seen it yet, but was happily surprised to find out Chris Rock was a huge fan of the franchise. Of the somewhat spoilery reviews I've read of the film so far, the ending sounds kind of anti-climactic. Saw, and horror movies in general, are typically done on a cheap budget. This one seemed to have a higher budget, but based on the trailer, it also seemed to look a bit to "polished" production wise. Hell, I watched all the other sequels, which were hit or miss imo.

The reason the loony on this thread (r1, r9, etc.) didn't answer the question @ r12 is that he hasn't seen the movie, he's a namedropping psycho and a troll.
People who make shit up to impress or steal other people's ideas deserve the Jigsaw treatment, not conversation.

Bless your heart, R25 - sometimes people get bored with threads. But, tell yourself whatever you need to, dear!

Chris Rock looks like shit in the movie. Severe emaciation. Total ashen craters in his cheeks, temples and eye sockets. Two swollen blemishes on his face in the early scenes with LOTS of makeup caked on.
His frame is like a skeleton hanger for his suits; he barely moves.
Plus, his delivery seemed really wired and flat. It’s a very different look since DOLEMITE. It all seems like meth addiction.
