Creator of "Sex & The City" To Launch A Gay Version
What happens when your lover of 17 years walks out on you, just when you turn 40?
This new series entitled "Uncoupled" explores how a gay, 40 year-old (and newly single) dives back into the gay dating world in NYC after 17 years.
Darren Star (creator of Sex & The City) is creator & executive producer
Netflix has ordered eight half-hour episodes of the single-camera comedy from MTV Entertainment Studios and Jax Media

I wonder if it will be better than West 40s? Didn't that Kickstarter project deal with a similar plot line?

Most relevant questions for DLers
1. Will they use the term "eldergay"
2. Will any of the characters claim to look ten years younger?
3. Will they actually reference Datalounge?

Darren Starr did SATC when it was good, when everybody was talking about it and it was much in demand viewing, before it turned into the Home Shopping Channel. If he's retained any real sensibility of real life, this could be good.

Here's a link for more details.
Darren Star is a pretty smart and mature guy (at least in comparison with a blowhard like Ryan Murphy, who likes to pretend he's the first openly gay man in his role). So I'll cross my fingers and hope this might actually be good.
I'm also glad Michael Patrick King doesn't appear to be involved. I loved SATC during its first run, but the show always had a woeful record on LGBT issues and I don't need to see a retread of Stanford and Anthony, et al. SATC liked to pretend it was outrageous and progressive, but in hindsight it was an incredibly bougie show with incredibly bougie ideas.

PS: Star's co-creator comes from MODERN FAMILY and FRASIER, so that's a pretty impressive resume.
PPS: I hate-watched Star's EMILY IN PARIS but cannot deny that it was a huge hit on Netflix.

Isn't Emily In Paris renewed? Is he doing both shows at the same time or will someone else take over EIP?

I think it would provide an interesting angle to compare gay life of the past with gay life of the present told through flashbacks and present.

This was already done years ago with a black gay cast in LA. Seriously, every one of the characters was a complete copy of SATC. Young, single fashionista; more dull professional type; a sex craved, no apologies character; and a sweet, awwww you guys! type.
I'm surprised it didn't get sued. I enjoyed Noah's Arc - a lot. But it was hard to get past the blatant plagiarism.

Noah's Ark was a bunch of adult gays acting like 12 year old teen girls, it was embarrassing. Grown up men acting as giggly teenage girls talking about someone wanting to get into their "buttgina" or whatever was the term. Do people like that even exist? I don't know anyone like that so maybe it's who you know.

I thought Darren Star was dead! Seriously. This would have to be done in a very smart way because there has been a realization about what SATC was in retrospect and what it generated and a bit of a backlash about it.

Wasn't that basically the premise of that webseries some guy wanted to produce, did a gofundme, and used the money to do just the pilot filmed on location in New York which he hoped some TV station or Netflix would pick up and give him the money to produce the whole series?

Episode # 1: The dumped guy dates a younger man. It goes really well. Then in Act 2 or 3, the new younger guy will ask Dumped Guy if he's 'gen' Cut to the coffee shop where he commiserates.
Episode #2: Dumped guy goes out with someone his own age, but he's never been in a relationship; it doesn't work out. But not b/c of new guy's lack of experience -- but Dumped Guy was too judgemental.
Episode # 3: Dumped guy goes out with someone else he met on a dating app, but the guy is MUCH younger and Dumped Guy doesn't want another sugar baby asking if he's gen, but then this new guy is SUPER RICH and doesn't need a sugar daddy. It's open ended and they decide to date some more.
I could go on, but it'll be stuff like this.

Oh, PLEASE make this good. As someone who turned 40, I would love something that captures our generation and issues. Let the gay not be a characture. I would love a gay 40 gay that is like a more real Brian Kinney vs. any of the charters of W of 40, which was TERRIBLE and the cast was not West of 40. They were 50's adjacent. I want to see real characters living a real life, but not so real that it's totally boring like, "Looking".
All I want is some decent gay content.

The TV business was great for gay men thirty years ago. And you didn’t gave to be a latinx/non-binary/tranny/lena waithe to get work. You just had to be gay. But now all these old white gays won’t retire and are only hiring the latinx/non-binary/tranny/lena waithe types to help write their shows. Regular gay dudes (white or other) can’t get a break. Fuck the industry. Meanwhile, ridiculous trans girls are given showrunning opportunities and jobs on things like star wars tv. It’s fucking insanity.

Older gay man has a 20 year younger boyfriend . They decide to spice up the relationship and bring in another young guy. The 2 younger ones fall in love and decide they really wouldnt rather be poor and in love,so they scheme to kill older gay. Older gay is well aware of their plot as he secretly has the house rigged with cameras. Older gay invites them to his familys summer cabin ,then proceeds to drug them and burn it down. He collects the insurance that he had on younger gay as well as the cabin, and finds a 30 year younger boyfriend.

-I think they need to do a gay version of I love Lucy with a really hot ginger as the lead and avoid any gender, emotional or political issues…just really funny situational comedy…maybe hire Larry David on as a consultant…
-breaks up with a guy because his penis is way too big.
Loses his Rolex watch while fisting and doesn’t know how to ask for it back. the trick assumed it was a “gift”.
Gets a desk job at a male modeling agency and gradually realizing that it’s an high end escort service/ sex club.
