Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield did not get along during filming. A few years after the film was released, Caulfield said in an interview that they "got along infamously." Pfieffer stated in an interview that Maxwell was "self-adoring."

by Anonymousreply 1May 14, 2021 5:29 AM

Debbie Harry and Kim Carnes would have been 37 year-old high school students.

by Anonymousreply 2May 14, 2021 5:31 AM

Cher was about that age too. Kristy McNichol might have been good.

by Anonymousreply 3May 14, 2021 5:33 AM

How could Maxwell not be self-adoring? He was a great beauty.

by Anonymousreply 4May 14, 2021 5:34 AM

Flashdance was 1983 and she was still in high school in Chicago. No way was she considered for G2.

by Anonymousreply 5May 14, 2021 5:36 AM

Jennifer Beals signed on to play Sharon Cooper, but dropped out to play the lead character in Flashdance (1983)

by Anonymousreply 6May 14, 2021 5:39 AM

The poster for Grease 2 is probably the worst photoshop for any movie in Paramount's history. It looks so cheaply designed. I can't believe it got approved.

by Anonymousreply 7May 14, 2021 5:42 AM

R5 this makes no sense

by Anonymousreply 8May 14, 2021 5:44 AM

Cher would’ve made a good Pink Lady if she was younger.

by Anonymousreply 9May 14, 2021 5:46 AM

Tom Cruise auditioned for the role of Johnny Nogerelli, but director Patricia Birch wanted someone older and taller.

by Anonymousreply 10May 14, 2021 5:47 AM

Cher initially signed on to play Paulette Rebchuck but backed out, complaining of a low salary and not having a finished script

by Anonymousreply 11May 14, 2021 5:48 AM

The Pink Ladies pledge to act LOUD, to dress LOUD, and to be LOUD...

TIL DEATH DO US PART, THINK... [bold]LOUD!!![/bold]

by Anonymousreply 12May 14, 2021 5:48 AM

Caulfield was very confused when he got the lead in "Grease 2." Everyone kept telling him he was going to be the next Travolta, and every gay or bi man and every straight or bi woman in Hollywood wanted to fuck him since word of his beauty has spread. The attention went right to his head, and he notoriously behaved like a diva during production. Vanity Fair did an expose of him that made him look like a callow, selfish, preening asshole.

He was deeply humiliated by the profile, and even more embarrassed when the film was a disaster. He basically had to abase himself to get much work after that. He is supposedly a lovely man now, but it was too much fame, too much fuss, and too many unrealistic predictions too soon for him to handle.

by Anonymousreply 13May 14, 2021 5:53 AM

I've never been able to sit through this film. Is it that bad?

by Anonymousreply 14May 14, 2021 5:58 AM

This is one of the dullest movies ever made, with bland and forgettable songs, and no point to the whole mess. Like Xanadu, not bad or bizarre enough to even be camp.

by Anonymousreply 15May 14, 2021 5:59 AM

Better than the original

by Anonymousreply 16May 14, 2021 6:01 AM

Filmed at the same high school used in Square Pegs

by Anonymousreply 17May 14, 2021 6:03 AM

Michelle looked like Debbie Harry.

by Anonymousreply 18May 14, 2021 6:08 AM

I saw Grease 2 before seeing Grease so, for me, it's the superior film. I love that it has a large following. Brett Goldstein of Apple+'s TED LASSO is a big fan. He had Yvette Nicole Brown from COMMUNITY on his podcast "Films to be Buried With" and the two of them discussed their love of it.

For all of the distance Pfeiffer has put between the film and herself, Christopher McDonald loved the experience.

Grease 2 (1982)—“Goose McKenzie”

CM: Goose McKenzie! That was one of the happiest times I ever had on a set, ’cause you never forget your first. This was my first biggie, and all the singing and dancing and… boy, just the five auditions to get that part! I was trying to get Johnny Nogerelli, but you couldn’t wash the Irish off of my face. [Laughs.] So by the time I got turned down on the fourth, they said, “Why don’t you come in tomorrow and meet Robert Stigwood and Allan Carr and all these people? We’re gonna put the T-Birds together and mix and match.” And I said, “Well, I’ve got nothing else to do tomorrow.” I was really down when I didn’t get it, but then I went in as Goose McKenzie, I’d lifted all the pressure off of myself, and I was completely relaxed. And I had a brilliant time. That kind of auditioning has helped me ever since. I got the part, I had a blast. They would give us time to ride our motorcycles around, and none of the other T-Birds rode motorcycles, but I had been riding since I was 10, so it was free time for me to just ride around the school hallways. That’s something you never get to do in life—especially since my father was the principal of my high school! [Laughs.] Yeah, that never would’ve happened. So that was a blast. That was just a really, really fun movie. And I met a lot of lifelong friends from it. And, strangely enough, people who are now in their early 30s are going, “Oh my God, I loved you in Grease 2!” They’ll see me and go, “Oh my God, it’s Goose!” “What were you, 9?”

by Anonymousreply 19May 14, 2021 6:10 AM

Andy Gibb was initially to play the male lead, but he failed his screen test

by Anonymousreply 20May 14, 2021 6:12 AM

Yep r20 and filming was initially going to start late spring of 1980.

by Anonymousreply 21May 14, 2021 6:15 AM

Also Pfeiffer has softened on grease 2. For a time it was one of the only movies of hers her kids saw.

by Anonymousreply 22May 14, 2021 6:17 AM

Michelle Pfeiffer's vocals in every song are great

by Anonymousreply 23May 14, 2021 6:24 AM

Has Maxwell ever shown his ass or cock?

by Anonymousreply 24May 14, 2021 10:46 AM

Olivia is not a fan of the movie, but Michelle in real life is a massive fan of ONJ.

yes r24.

That's what made him a star. He was in two off-Broadway plays. One, Entertaining Mr. Sloan which may have had some nudity but infamously he was in a play set on a beach where he was nude sunbathing the whole first act and then eventually stood up.

Jessica Tandy was the star of the play. It was two old women discussing stuff while the nude sunbather distracted them.

I think that play led to his getting Grease 2.

by Anonymousreply 28May 15, 2021 7:25 AM

It was an off-Broadway play at the Public Theater. It was called Salonika.

by Anonymousreply 29May 15, 2021 7:51 AM

He more recently did a play called My Night with Reg where he and Sam Tramell of True Blood had a long scene where they are naked sitting on a couch or bed talking.

by Anonymousreply 30May 15, 2021 7:53 AM

I want to see him nude. He's lovely! He was in Emmerdale, a British soap, a few years ago. On the show he had a beautiful son who looked liked him when younger

by Anonymousreply 31May 15, 2021 9:32 AM

Lisa Hartman can sing and would have made a hot Pink Lady

Lucy was going to do it, but Gary talked her out of it.

by Anonymousreply 36May 18, 2021 4:37 AM

Did Gary talk Lucie out of it too?

How about Catherine Zeta-Jone and Maxwell Caulfield together?

by Anonymousreply 39May 18, 2021 6:44 AM

runner?

I'm your Girl for All Seasons

by Anonymousreply 41May 19, 2021 7:50 AM

The opening number is great, but everything that follows is the epitome of '80s trash. Eve Arden and Dody Goodman have one or two amusing lines, but nothing really funny. Sid Caesar looks like a fool in this. But "I love your hair Miss Mason. All 300 pounds of it!" is still one of the campiest lines in film history.

by Anonymousreply 42May 19, 2021 12:05 PM

And the catty twins are Katey Sagal's sisters Liz and Jean.

I think it's time to discuss the fact that Stephanie has a psychotic break during the June Moon Talent Show and none of her supposed "friends" does a single thing to help her. In fact they give her the prize for singing a duet with a partner who isn't even there.

R1, they had horrible chemistry . Maxwell is good looking, but so bland . His solo was horrid .. Michelle was at her prettiest. I think because she was a healthy weight. She got sucked up for Scarface

by Anonymousreply 46July 25, 2021 4:17 AM

Any pics of Maxwell's cock?

Michelle was exquisite in this movie . Maxwell has the charisma of toast .

by Anonymousreply 50July 25, 2021 2:19 PM

As a little gayling watching this in the theater, Michelle’s big Cool Rider moment about blew my goddamn mind. I can still picture her climbing up and straddling the ladder like it was a motorcycle.

by Anonymousreply 51July 25, 2021 2:23 PM

It was sexual too r51. Michelle pinged in this movie

by Anonymousreply 52July 25, 2021 2:26 PM

Annette Funicello was supposed to play the teacher, but I can't remember why she backed out, so they got Connie Stevens instead.

by Anonymousreply 53July 25, 2021 2:32 PM

This picture in a teenage rag ( I know, what were they thinking, but it was the early 80's) almost drove me insane. Still works today

This movie, and its songs, are so dull; I don’t see why anyone is raving about it or considering it a camp classic of any kind.

by Anonymousreply 55July 26, 2021 5:20 AM

[quote]The poster for Grease 2 is probably the worst photoshop for any movie in Paramount's history.

Which is odd since Photoshop didn't exist back then.

by Anonymousreply 56July 26, 2021 5:51 AM

R55 I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the din of clinking dirty martinis in the rotunda of the DataLounge VIP Suite

by Anonymousreply 57July 26, 2021 5:52 AM

This was bad, but I still say [italic]Staying Alive[/italic] was worse.

Paramount’s sequels under Michael Eisner were as cash-grabby as the Disney direct-to-video sequels he enabled. The principle was the same.

by Anonymousreply 58July 26, 2021 7:13 AM

[Quote] This was bad, but I still say Staying Alive was worse.

As someone who likes both....Staying Alive has catchier songs and homoerotic overtones.

by Anonymousreply 59July 26, 2021 9:01 AM

I loved the movie as a kid

by Anonymousreply 60July 27, 2021 3:35 PM

Olivia Newton-John said she was asked to appear in "Grease 2" and said, "OK' but only if John Travolta was in it as well.

I wonder what happened?

by Anonymousreply 61July 27, 2021 3:52 PM

I was so in love with Grease 2 as a pre-teen (I was too young for the original Grease) that I viewed it more than 20 times when it played on HBO in 1983. I knew the dialogue so well that I actually started to write my own stage adaptation (I know, MARY!).

I eagerly bought the DVD when it was released a decade ago and discovered that it didn't hold up so well. I still like some of the numbers ("Cool Rider," "Reproduction," "Girl For All Seasons") and Michelle Pfeiffer still impresses with her star charisma, but its a lumbering film with silly dialogue.
