Why I Won’t Wear A Face Mask On An Airplane By Deidre Hall
I believe that airline flights are not a forum to make a political statement. However, I have not objected when fellow passengers have worn a face mask for their own health; that's their choice. My choice is NOT to wear a face mask.
Soap Opera Digest readers should know wearing a face mask is no longer entirely voluntary. Stewardesses who began by offering face masks to passengers now resort to extreme tactics in pursuit of their express goal of 100 percent conformity. When passengers arrive at the gate, individuals who attempt to place face masks on them accost them. A passenger who declines may be accosted at the airport lounge, again while waiting in line for the bathroom and again upon exiting the plane.
Offering these face masks to passengers was, in my view, a benign and pro-social act. On the other hand, aggressively badgering passengers to compel the wearing of face masks is no only demeaning to Covid19 victims and to the desperate need for an all-out research war against the disease, but an offense against personal freedom.
By attempting to force 100 percent conformity, these activists are no attempting to make the face mask a visible litmus test for separating those individuals who empathize with COVID19 victims and support COVID19 research from those who do not. This is a misguided and dangerous notion.
First, it misguidedly politicizes human tragedy. These face masks provide a means by which public figures can appear to make a 'politically correct' statement in favor of a cause they do not support.
Second, any attempt to force conformity to a single social agenda attacks the freedom of expression. The extreme activities that resort to harassment to compel the public to wear these face masks are practicing a '90s brand of McCarthyism and their behavior is deplorable. Our community was devastated by political extremists in the 1950s and again became a target during the last presidential campaign. It surpasses belief that men and women would resort to shameful practices that the enemies of artistic freedom have used against us.
Sadly, it falls to some of us who ardently support COVID19 victims and COVID19 research to resist these tactics by personal example. Believe me, the easy way out would be to put the face mask on and keep silent. But I won't, because I don't want these appalling tactics to succeed.

Considering airlines can forcefully make you sit your ass down in your seat on takeoff and landing and anytime in between, I think your argument for lack of freedom is misguided and a few decades too late, you ridiculous old cunt.

The more power to her. We are now at the point where anyone that wants a vaccine, can get one. Therefore, no more masks, even on a plane!

R14, I think the piece was published in a soap magazine. They’ve never had high circulation, so most people probably never saw it and there was no social media back then to amplify things. I don’t think it got much traction at al. I’d never heard about it until I came to DL.

Did Dee and Suzi Rogers have a falling out at some point? Their characters were BFFs for a while, and then abruptly they stopped having scenes together. There were rumors that there was bad blood. Does it stem from Suzi getting top billing, and Dee losing her 'and...' credit?

Flying is a privilege not a right. Airlines are private industry have the option of making their own policy and safety protocols and enforcing them, which includes forcing you off the plane and adding you to banned list to prevent you from booking any future flights. You have the freedom to find an airline that conforms to your preferences, or driving to your destination.

Deidre Hall - Why I Won't Wear A Red Poppy By
I believe that television shows are not a forum for expressing personal religious, social or political views. However, I have not objected when fellow performers have worn red poppy to express their support for war veterans; that's their choice. My choice is NOT to wear a red poppy.

Offering these poppys to celebrities was, in my view, a benign and pro-social act. On the other hand, aggressively badgering performers to compel the wearing of poppys is no only demeaning to war veterans and to the desperate need of continued support, but an offense against personal freedom.
By attempting to force ONE HUNDRED CONFORMITY, these activists are now attempting to make the red poppy a visible litmus test for separating those individuals who empathize with war veterans from those who do not. This is a misguided and dangerous notion.
