The knee jerk support for the Palestinians when it is really support for Hamas and NOT for the Palestinians is amazing.

if you want to support the Palestinians then infiltrate and take out Hamas completely.

r10, I also support neither, as in it's none of business - but I still see Israel at large is fighting for something real, a whole established society, whereas the Palestinian side is fuelled more by revenge for the war they lost in 1948.

by Anonymousreply 29May 14, 2021 12:35 AM

If the term "Palestine" is attested since the fifth century BC. AD by Herodotus1, it is officially given to the region by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century, eager to punish the Jews for their revolt in 132-135 AD. J.-C. The area is not clearly defined. It is centered on the regions of Galilee, Samaria and Judea. Its limits are Phenicia and Mount Lebanon to the north and Philistia and Idumea to the south. At the time of the Crusades, the Perea north-east of the Dead Sea, the Batanee and the Decapolis beyond the Jordan were attached to it. Palestine can refer to the territory located only west of the Jordan River. The term is also used as an equivalent to the land of Israel. From the Roman period (63 BC to 638) Jews were persecuted and deported. The Muslim invaders (from 638 to 1099) justify the crusades (from 1099 to 1291) to defend the “Promised Land” and the “Holy Land of Christianity”. To come to the recent period, On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly voted to divide Palestine between a Jewish state, an Arab state and made Jerusalem and its region an international zone. The Arabs reject partition and war breaks out between the Jews and Arabs of Palestine. On May 15, 1948, the Jewish state declared its independence under the name of Israel with the immediate de jure recognition of the United States and the USSR. Neighboring Arab states intervened in the conflict and invaded the territory of the Jewish state the next day. On September 23, 1948, the Palestinian Arab High Committee met in Gaza and proclaimed the formation of the Arab government of all of Palestine, without international recognition except for Egypt during its occupation of the Gaza Strip. In the following years, the Jewish communities of Arab countries, some of them multi-thousand years old like in Iraq or Egypt, were forced to leave them and many of their members took refuge in Israel. The territory of the West Bank and part of Jerusalem (East Jerusalem) are occupied and annexed by Jordan, while the Gaza Strip is occupied and placed under Egyptian military administration following the armistice of February 24, 1949 My conclusion : Palestine, now Muslim, now wants to destroy a defending Israel (10 million Jews against 100 million Muslims). The Six Day War (1967), the Yom Kippur War (1973), showed that the Jewish genius was able to take back not only his land of Palestine, but also Sinai. It had the greatness to return its lands to its occupants. Despite this Israel continues to be harassed by the Arabs, I recall that there is no longer a single Israeli in Palestine while there is 20% of the Muslim population in Israel and represented in the Knesset. Where Muslims pass, countries pass away. Long live Israel!

by Anonymousreply 30May 14, 2021 12:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 38May 14, 2021 12:49 AM

R30, let's cut to the chase. Muslims stole the land (and the stories and religious sites) for the Jews, Christians and Zorastrians at the onset of the Islamic Conquest in 636. They went on to brutally conquer, occupy, exploit and enslave people and lands from Spain, to North Africa to Persia, the Balkans (almost capturing Vienna), India all the way to Indonesia.

Islamic terrorists continue to murder people daily around the world in the name of jihad. The western press never covers it and Muslims never, ever speak out about jihad terror. They know it is ordered and rewarded by their islamic god. Fuck islam!

[quote] still see Israel at large is fighting for something real, a whole established society, whereas the Palestinian side is fuelled more by revenge for the war they lost in 1948.

I would argue that if you’re under occupation by foreign troops, the same ones who made you refugees in the first place, and they control your movements, place severe burdens on your making a living, and regularly drive you off your land to give it to Jews, you’re fighting for something pretty real, and not just “revenge for something that happened 70 years ago.” Don’t you agree?

Two groups of people are claiming the same land, both have legitimate claims to that land ( my opinion ) there is no reason to expect that the two groups would ever be capable of sharing the land. One of the two groups is already largely displaced from that land and the other group is in almost completely control of that land. I see no point in displacing the group in control of that land for the group not currently in control. The people who are already displaced share a language, culture and religion with all the neighboring countries and could more easily be assimilated in the area than the people currently in control of the land. Therefore I side with Israel. I feel bad for the Palestinians but there is not good answer to this problem.

In the 2nd century CE, the last attempt of the Jews to achieve independence from the Roman Empire ended with the well-known event of Masada, that is historically documented and universally recognized as the fact that determined the Jewish Diaspora in a definitive way. The Land where these things happened was until then the province known as Judæa, and there is no mention of any place called "Palestine" before that time. The Roman emperor Hadrian was utterly upset with the Jewish Nation and wanted to erase the name of Israel and Judah from the face of the Earth, so that there would be no memory of the country that belonged to that rebel people. He decided to replace the denomination of that Roman province and resorted to ancient history in order to find a name that might appear appropriate, and found that an extinct people that was unknown in Roman times, called "Philistines", was once dwelling in that area and were enemies of the Israelites. Therefore, according to Latin spelling, he invented the new name: "Palæstina", a name that would be also hateful for the Jews as it reminded them their old foes. He did so with the explicit purpose of effacing any trace of Jewish history.

Ancient Romans, as well as modern Palestinians, have fulfilled the Hebrew Scriptures Prophecy that declares: "They lay crafty plans against Your People... they say: ‘come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more'." - Tehilim 83:3-4 (Psalm 83:3-4).

They failed, as Israel is alive and thrives.

Like every other dictator and despot in the region, Hamas cares about power and control and the wealth and weaponry (courtesy of Iran) that goes with it. What the masses under their jackboots want is irrelevant. Your assertion about what "most Palestinians want" is ludicrous nonsense.

Israel has a Westminster system of government with 40 political parties to choose from. Netanyahu's party is simply one out of the 40. Israelis have a diverse political spectrum from which to choose. Unlike residents of Gaza and the West Bank.
