"If you’re vaccinated and you're outside, put aside your mask," Fauci says today

You can stop wearing your mask outside if you're vaccinated.

“If you are vaccinated, you don’t have to wear a mask outside. It would be a very unusual situation, if you were going into a completely crowded situation where people are essentially falling all over each other, then you wear a mask. But any other time, if you’re vaccinated and you’re outside, put aside your mask. You don’t have to wear it,” Fauci said.

Fair enough.

Let’s see what Biden does when he parades outside in front of the cameras. Hopefully, he will follow the CDC guidelines.

Biden wanted to own the Cons.

by Anonymousreply 7May 13, 2021 4:02 PM

I know he’s right, but not sure I will be going anywhere without a mask anyhow. Not while there are unvaccinated people potentially creating more variants.

I’ve been told we need to return to work in a few weeks part time as well and not sure I will be able to not wear a mask there, even, because they turned out to be virus deniers. And I am fully vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 8May 13, 2021 4:04 PM

I'll still dress like this when I go for a walk all by myself.

If you’re UNvaccinated, you can go outside without a mask on, too. Because COVID doesn’t transmit outdoors where there’s unlimited ventilation and UV light.

by Anonymousreply 10May 13, 2021 4:08 PM

Only wear the mask when I'm in a store. In restaurants, you have to take it off.

by Anonymousreply 13May 13, 2021 4:13 PM

Wasn’t it obvious from the BLM protests a year ago that Covid doesn’t spread easily outdoors. I’m listening to Fauci and will stop wearing a mask outside.

by Anonymousreply 14May 13, 2021 4:17 PM

R14 - wish I could. By the 25th, I will have the 2 week anniversaries of my second dose of Pfizer (which really kicked my ass BTW) and will take it off outside. Where I live there isn't much of a chance of distancing because the streets are narrow and so are the outdoor places. Can't wait for the mask to come off in uncrowded areas.

by Anonymousreply 15May 13, 2021 4:20 PM

You can take the mask off right now in those places, R15. You could’ve taken it off months ago there, too. And when you’re vaccinated, you don’t need to wear a mask in a crowd, either. The vaccines work. ESPECIALLY PFIZER! Resume your life as normal, follow masking requirements wherever they are because obviously they’re not going to enforce a vaccine ID, but you absolutely can resume your life mask free wherever permitted.

by Anonymousreply 16May 13, 2021 4:24 PM

r10 Have you noticed, as I have, that government health authorities dispensed with the "when social distancing isn't possible" qualification? I've not worn a mask yet, but I have not entered public buildings, I wash my hands and sanitize surfaces, and keep 2m away from passersby, walking on a grass strip or on the road.

It's difficult for me to take government public health authorities' directions seriously, when attention to immune system, social distancing and sunlight have kept me healthy throughout.

by Anonymousreply 17May 13, 2021 4:24 PM

[quote]Wasn’t it obvious from the BLM protests a year ago that Covid doesn’t spread easily outdoors. I’m listening to Fauci and will stop wearing a mask outside.

The conclusion drawn from the protests last year was based on the fact that most people at rallies and protests *were wearing masks*.

If I don’t put my mask on when I leave the house, I won’t have one to put on in a crowd or if I go into a store. It’s not like a carry a PURSE.

by Anonymousreply 19May 13, 2021 4:27 PM

Fauci and the CDC said we shouldn't wear masks at the beginning of the pandemic and they were wrong then. They could very well be wrong again especially with so many people still unvaccinated and all the variants going around.

by Anonymousreply 20May 13, 2021 4:32 PM

In order to get more people vaxxed and for us to hit the number we need, there has to be an incentive. No masks outside is a great start. Now we just need to expand this to more indoor locations, hopefully by July 4.

by Anonymousreply 21May 13, 2021 4:38 PM

There are all sorts of incentives/bribes to get vaccinated. Food, drink, sports tickets. Ohio is doing a million dollar lottery.

Don’t need reminders of the stupid blm marches and the havoc they wrecked on neighborhoods that didn’t deserve it. Honestly. Idiot Americans thinking they’re repressed because they’re black; bitch, this is capitalism. You’re repressed because you’re poor. That’s the rigged system. Nothing to do with race if you pay closer attention.

by Anonymousreply 23May 13, 2021 4:48 PM

And yes, I made an appointment for vaccination, as I am pro-science and anti-panic.

People claim they did "everything right" but still ended up hospitalized, or with longhaul nerve damage. Did they really do everything right, or did they think that wearing a mask made them invulnerable and so they didn't wear gloves, didn't stay away from people, didn't look after their immune system? public health agencies can't give individualized diet advice, and no one in power wants to tell people whose origins are far from their current latitude (dark-skinned people north of 40 degrees) that they need more vitamin D3 to compensate for their strong melanin pigmentation. That would be acknowledging racial differences, and the reps who openly acknowledge racial differences do not work for the best interests of citizens with strong melanin pigmentation.

by Anonymousreply 24May 13, 2021 4:55 PM

I suspect that I am going to follow the behavior of all of my Asian students that I’ve watched over the past several years. No matter what, I think there will likely be a mask season. And any time I’m feeling under the weather, the mask will go on. I think SARS permanently scarred a generation on that continent, and changed the culture. I think the same thing is going to happen here. I don’t think there will ever again be a time when masks will be surprising.

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2021 5:12 PM

I've had the worst hay fever of my life this spring, to the point where even though I'm fully vaccinated I got tested for Covid just to rule it out. I've found that wearing a mask when I'm outside helps with that. So the maskholes will just have to put up with me wearing one until the pollen count falls.

1) Vaccinated people do not transmit COVID (assuming your reply is in response to what Fauci said).

2) COVID is not transmitted outdoors.

3) the vaccines work on all the variants.

Gov. Cuomo says NY isn’t ready to follow federal advice on going maskless

Pandemic-weary New Yorkers had their hopes deflated Thursday when Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he wasn’t ready to ease the state’s mask mandate — even though the feds gave the green light for vaccinated Americans to finally show their faces and gather indoors again.

In a late-afternoon statement, Cuomo said he and Health Commissioner Howard Zucker had yet to decide if the Empire State would adopt newly announced guidelines from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“In New York, we have always relied on the facts and the science to guide us throughout the worst of this pandemic and in our successful reopening,” Cuomo said.

“We have received the newly revised guidance from the CDC regarding mask wearing and social distancing for those with vaccinations and are reviewing them in consultation with Dr. Zucker and our partners and health experts in surrounding states.”

Much to piece of shit R3's chagrin, Biden and Harris appeared in public today without masks, based on the CDC's guidelines. by Anonymousreply 91May 14, 2021 5:05 PM

NY has also said they are not so sure about this new rule.

by Anonymousreply 92May 14, 2021 5:11 PM

R92 - all places where there isn't the kind of space available or the possibility of distancing that exists in places like LA or Texas, are still at risk. Vertically built cities that are densely populated and where large numbers of individuals rely on public transportation and walk on narrow and heavily populated streets are taking a risk. That's just common sense. Different places need to take this into careful consideration. Nevermind places with a large homeless population and many outdoor entertainment venues.

by Anonymousreply 93May 14, 2021 5:19 PM

What the VaxRules pinheads don't seem to get is not that what they're talking about is wrong or bad, but the way they're delivering the messages. It's all about, "OK, we are telling you now that you can/can't do this/that," or that they seemingly flip-flop senselessly between rules of one type or for one demographic/situation and another. It makes the whole pandemic prevention efforts thing appear to be so political and condescending. Tell Americans to "use common sense," yes, but don't tell them "(I know, but you don't) what to do."

[quote] Everyone seems to finally be calm and relaxed and nobody is thinking of the India variants and other stuff that may be coming.

Good news is the mRNA is effective against the India variant, as reported over the weekend.

Which of course it is. For a variant to be vaccine resistant it would have to mutate into an altogether different virus.

by Anonymousreply 100May 17, 2021 3:17 PM

Wasn't it last month or two we were told the virus could be present in the nose of vaccinated people and that these people could pass the virus to others?

If this is true why wouldn't every body stay masked until herd immunity at least?

by Anonymousreply 101May 17, 2021 3:22 PM

It would have to replicate, R101. It doesn’t look like that actually happens in fully vaccinated people. I haven’t come across anything new that confirms that theory, that the virus could hang out in a fully vaccinated person’s nose and then be transmitted.

by Anonymousreply 102May 17, 2021 3:35 PM

R102, I can't find the reports now, but I thought I remembered reading that an unvaccinated person might still be vulnerable to virus coming from a vaccinated person—although it seems less and less likely, as evidence accumulates, that vaccinated people can transmit it to each other.

by Anonymousreply 103May 17, 2021 3:42 PM

^^ yes, that vaccinated people can still pass the virus to the vulnerable.

by Anonymousreply 104May 17, 2021 3:46 PM

R102, vaccinated people shouldn't give a fuck about the unvaccinated. If you are unvaccinated now, that is your choice.

by Anonymousreply 105May 17, 2021 4:12 PM

Indeed, the US has many more vaccines available than people wanting to take it

^^Only 37% is *fully* vaccinated. Even a single dose of the mRNA vaccines is tremendously effective, far more so than any flu vaccine.

As for the “fully vaccinated = transmit?” question:

by Anonymousreply 109May 17, 2021 5:53 PM

Yes, I realize that, R109, but the efficacy rates for partial vs. full mRNA vaccination aren’t that far apart. And partial is as good as J&J, so there’s that. My point was that it’s disingenuous to say “only 37% of Americans are vaccinated”—it’s purposely painting the current outlook as grimmer and situations as more dangerous than they really are.

by Anonymousreply 110May 17, 2021 5:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 120May 17, 2021 8:12 PM

R120, the vaccines work 95% of the time—the J&J one less well. The "breakthrough" cases are milder than usual, but it's forgivable if someone doesn't want to get sick at all—and there have been a few cases of vaccinated people dying. So some, especially elderly and fat people, might well not want to expose themselves yet to strangers who might not be vaccinated. I'm neither fat nor (except in gay terms) elderly, but I'm going to play it safe when I'm around people I can't be sure are vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 121May 17, 2021 8:22 PM

r121 if I told you that if you got into your car and went on a trip, you have a 5% chance of maybe getting into an accident and a much lower chance of dying, would you take your trip or sit around wringing your hands over the very slim possibility you might get into a fender bender?

by Anonymousreply 122May 17, 2021 8:40 PM

As I said, R122, some people may not want even the 1-in-20 chance of getting sick, if they can avoid it simply by putting on a mask when they're around people whose status they don't know. Your derisive analogy of "sitting around wringing your hands" is not apposite (and 5% is not a "very slim possibility" of getting into a fender bender; I've been driving for 40 years and haven't gotten into more than a couple).

by Anonymousreply 123May 17, 2021 8:48 PM

[quote]some people may not want even the 1-in-20 chance of getting sick

"One common misunderstanding is that 95% efficacy means that in the Pfizer clinical trial, 5% of vaccinated people got COVID. But that's not true; the actual percentage of vaccinated people in the Pfizer (and Moderna) trials who got COVID-19 was about a hundred times less than that: 0.04%. "

Yep, 124. These people wringing their hands don't understand the science and the numbers.

by Anonymousreply 126May 17, 2021 9:01 PM

"some people may not want even the 1-in-20 chance of getting sick" except it isn't 1 in 20. More like 1 in 2000.

by Anonymousreply 127May 17, 2021 9:04 PM

WEAR A MAASK! GET A VAXX!!!

by Anonymousreply 128May 20, 2021 1:35 PM

R19- I don't carry a purse.

I carry a POCKETBOOK.

by Anonymousreply 129May 20, 2021 1:37 PM

It's so hard to trust or believe what authorities say. We're clearly all just guinea pigs. Fauci told us *not* to wear masks, in the early days of the pandemic. That they even probably would do more harm than good, because you'd be adjusting it and touching it. This was apparently a lie, to make sure medical people had enough masks. So guess what? We could have made our own masks, or used a piece of cloth. How many people got Covid because of this asshole? I started using a home-made mask long before people were required to wear them in the stores, etc. I don't believe a word coming out of Fauci's mouth, at this point.

by Anonymousreply 130May 20, 2021 1:45 PM

You are being tiresome, R130. As we learned more about how COVID was being transmitted, the guidance changed. What's so hard to understand about that? Now as studies coming out of the US, England, and Israel show that vaccines are overwhelmingly effective, the guidance about masks has changed again. That's how science works. Please, do join us in the 21st century.

by Anonymousreply 131May 20, 2021 1:58 PM

I could have told you this advice a year ago. Duh.

by Anonymousreply 132May 20, 2021 3:04 PM

R131 Question authority. You'll be less of a sheep and you may live longer.

by Anonymousreply 133May 20, 2021 4:38 PM

Naw, r133. Scientists aren't "authority." They are people who have studied long and hard and have to have others check their work. I am not qualified to question them, nor are you. When you get your PHD, then go ahead and question them. Until then, STFU.

by Anonymousreply 134May 21, 2021 9:09 PM

[quote] [R131] Question authority. You'll be less of a sheep and you may live longer.

Not sure what you mean by 'question authority' but I do my homework. For a year now I have regularly listened to the podcasts 'In The Bubble' with Andy Slavitt and 'The Osterholm Update' with infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm. I follow Dr. Fauci, Ashish Jah, and Dr. Monica Gandhi, Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

I cannot believe for a minute that this wide-ranging group of medical experts would all say essentially the same thing were it not the truth.

The only people who are saying things to the contrary are right-wing crackpots and conspiracy theorists. The scientific community is united around the overwhelming efficacy of first, mask wearing, and now, getting vaccinated. In fact, Dr. Gandhi took the media to task when they referred to the vaccines as 'a tool' in the fight against COVID. She said masks and social-distancing are tools, vaccines are the solution.

by Anonymousreply 135May 22, 2021 2:10 PM

Wearing a mask ALL year round means NO more colds , flu or any other contagious diseases.

by Anonymousreply 136May 22, 2021 2:16 PM

Very true ^.

by Anonymousreply 137May 22, 2021 2:16 PM

How about all you forever maskers just pull a giant condom over your head and call it done? It's like the HIV panic and Prep, you all keeping talking about that next wave of Super HIV that has never seem to come. Silly nervous nellies.

by Anonymousreply 138May 22, 2021 2:29 PM

R138, why does it bother you if people want to wear a mask or not? Is anyone forcing you to do anything against your will?

Seems like the only one who should have used a condom over his dick, not his head, is your father.

by Anonymousreply 139May 22, 2021 2:34 PM

I’ll be honest and say that I wish covid was more lethal. The population is just too large. The quality of life for humans, nature, and animals is declining fast.

by Anonymousreply 140May 22, 2021 2:34 PM

Have at it r136, enjoy Halloween all year round.

by Anonymousreply 141May 22, 2021 2:55 PM

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's vaccine safety group is investigating reports that a 'small number' of teens and young adults who have been vaccinated against coronavirus have experienced heart problems days after receiving their second jab.

Several dozen cases in kids and young adults have been reported after taking their second dose of one of the mRNA vaccines, which are Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech.

The cases seem appear to be be occurring mainly in adolescents and young adults around four days after their second dose.

The symptoms also seemed to be affecting males more than females.

by Anonymousreply 142May 23, 2021 2:50 AM

r139 it doesn't bother me, I'm just tired of people whining and NOT listening to the science which says if you are vaccinated you are at very low risk even to the Indian variant. Apparently you are a whiner too.

Now go take a shower and cool off, but make sure you wear your mask, the variants could come frothing out of the shower and infect you.

by Anonymousreply 143May 23, 2021 3:58 AM

The obnoxius queens on this thread making fun of the people who want to keep wearing masks are total losers. Maybe some are eldergays, some have health problems, some aren't comfortable with the sudden re-opening or any of the above and more. So what? I will keep wearing one indoors and crowded places and, with that, I will be more comfortable to travel and go out as I please.

by Anonymousreply 144May 23, 2021 2:29 PM

Hopefully the heart problems kill those young people, R142, and in large numbers. Children these days have NO taste. We don’t want them.

by Anonymousreply 145May 23, 2021 3:11 PM

VAXX it

by Anonymousreply 146May 23, 2021 3:15 PM

R144 I seeing you sitting at home alone wearing that mask, fearing your cat could give you covid. You wear your mask honey, we all still love you and are thinking about you. The rest of us vaccinated people are going on with our lives.

by Anonymousreply 147May 23, 2021 7:14 PM

I’m vaccinated because I’m not an idiot, and I’ll continue to wear masks indoors if requested by the business I’m visiting because I’m not an asshole.

Well, it came from the wrong guy R149.

by Anonymousreply 150May 23, 2021 7:43 PM

R147 - incorrect bitch. I am going to Madrid in 2 weeks and then Florence and Venice. I am also dining every day outside in a beautiful medieval city but with distancing.

by Anonymousreply 151May 24, 2021 11:23 AM

R151, R147 is an idiot—don’t give them the attention they clearly crave.

I’m fully vaccinated and while I don’t wear a mask when I’m running or hiking, I will continue wearing one while shopping indoors or traveling (still not at the point where I’ll be dining indoors). There’s no harm in remaining cautious until more people have been vaccinated and cases drop to a negligible number. The US is trending toward fewer than 100 deaths per day...it’s not like we’ll be expected to wear masks by the end of the summer if the trend continues.

by Anonymousreply 152May 24, 2021 11:40 AM

R152 - yeah, you are right. I am doing the same thing based on simple common sense. Let's hope the trend continues.

by Anonymousreply 153May 24, 2021 11:43 AM

The nervous nellies can certainly continue to act like we are in the middle of last winter's surge. The rest of us, however will live in reality.

by Anonymousreply 154May 24, 2021 2:49 PM

R154, can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 155May 24, 2021 4:28 PM

According to my woke FB friends, the cool kids are getting vaxxed AND continue to wear masks anywhere outside the home.

by Anonymousreply 156May 24, 2021 10:25 PM

There were plenty of masked people on the streets of Hell's Kitchen today.

by Anonymousreply 157May 24, 2021 10:41 PM

New York thugs robbing stores and attacking people on the subway will be the very last people to give up their masks.

by Anonymousreply 158May 24, 2021 10:54 PM

Fuck that little "Covid Agenda" mouthpiece .

It’s so stupid when politicians walk right into traps an idiot wouldn’t even fall for.

by Anonymousreply 161May 25, 2021 12:38 AM

I don’t think Whitmer will win next year. I think she’s going to narrowly lose. She’s way woke too - heavily into trans on cis-girls teams. I hope she changes her tune. Democrats will also probably lose the House. This will eff up Joe Biden’s agenda.

by Anonymousreply 162May 25, 2021 12:39 AM

I still wear my mask just to trigger the Trumpy people.

by Anonymousreply 163May 25, 2021 12:50 AM

My mask is cheaper and less painful than a nose job.

by Anonymousreply 164May 25, 2021 12:57 AM

I wear my mask. My excuse is habit.

by Anonymousreply 165May 25, 2021 12:57 AM

.it’s not like we’ll be expected to wear masks by the end of the summer

You are an idiot of the highest degree, you are not expected to wear one now. They are saying NO MASKS or have you been living under a rock. Cases have dropped to almost minimal, stop the madness. Wear your damn mask and STFU.

by Anonymousreply 166May 25, 2021 12:59 AM

R93 Yes! It’s absurd to have the same mask policies for NYC and Watertown, NY just because they happen to be in the same state.

by Anonymousreply 167May 25, 2021 1:23 AM

R165, did you also continue to shit your pants after putting training because it was a habit?

by Anonymousreply 168May 25, 2021 1:32 AM

I went to dallas and no one wore a mask, only diamonds and sequins. Drunk and stupid too

by Anonymousreply 169May 25, 2021 2:13 AM

What R168?

by Anonymousreply 170May 25, 2021 2:37 AM

It's to the point now where I keep forgetting to grab my mask when I start to go into a store. Here in CA, we still have to wear them inside and it's so stupid, I can't even...

by Anonymousreply 171May 25, 2021 4:08 AM

I can

by Anonymousreply 172May 25, 2021 12:40 PM

Me too R171. I walked into a store without my mask and people were staring until I realized-oh my mask. But I’m fully vaxxed.
