My son came out last year, at 24, right before the pandemic, and I found this site while looking for resources. It was messy. He wanted to go back to school as a Music Major---he got his Masters in Computer Engineering and was working for a military contractor, hated everyone he was working with, and was afraid to see someone (a psychologist) because he thought he would lose his clearance. Some people here gave me some good advice, told me to tell him not to worry about the clearance thing and to power through. That it would get better. He wound up seeing someone, came out to a few people, and is still at his job, but is looking for something else within engineering. He appreciated the advice, but now he's embarrassed that I'm still here.

I'm r55 and I'm a lez and this place is not immune from misogyny. I've read so many threads in my 20 years here that have a deep hatred for women. I live in San Francisco and am very gay-friendly. I am also childfree and hate "fraus" as much as you all do. I missed the site and was looking for another one like it,. So I Googled "gay gossip" and ended up here. I skip over the threads that are overtly sexual since I have no interest in that. R59 - well one thing my roommate does say is that she didn't know, before reading this that there were a considerable number of gay men who held quite old fashioned ideas about women and a woman's place. However, she says it makes sense since nobody can chose how they were raised (conservative background) or their sexuality, so the two may exist simultaneously to a degree. Another thing is she was raised among the "beautiful gay men" in a richer and more progressive part of LA so now a picture has emerged of those that don't have the resources to maintain that, just as so many heterosexuals do not. She was however a bit surprised at the view of the humorless lesbian because normally, since she's progressive, she's never had any issues with any lesbian. The ones at work were fun and generally on the same page. I agree with her on that. I have also never had an issue with lesbians and usually they laugh at my jokes and tell great ones of their own.

I'm generally against the heteronormative, cookie-cutter lifestyle of most straight people. Other message boards are about "my kid did this" or "how do I do this for my kids or husband". Sounds dull.

This board is the opposite of that and it has celebrity gossip and general bitchiness. I live for these things.
