I would imagine this decision could be ripe for overturn by a higher court.

Let her keep that piece of shit flag but take the kid. That kid is going to wind up damaged if it remains in her care.

Disgusting woman and clearly an unfit mother. First of all, she lives in NY state, so she can't even excuse the flag as being Southern heritage and pride and second, The Confederacy was created to maintain the institution of slavery and the KKK and other white supremacists groups have used that flag to make their feelings known. I swear, you see way more Confederate flags outside of the South than within and it's usually trashy white people displaying it as a "fuck you" and validation of their racism.

R9 Exactly. Ironic that many Southerners will see themselves as "patriotic" when the Succession was an act of treason. The Confederacy was less than four years too. It seems like a bunch of sore losers who can't get over the fact they were wrong and it was a mistake. And the whole "State Rights" excuse is bullshit, The Confederacy was created to continue the horrific act of slavery. The South promoted historic revisionism and romanticization of the Antebellum era via literature, plantation tours and minstrel shows and cartoons, they took the Battle Flag as a symbol of pride and constructed statues of Confederate soldiers during the period of Reconstruction (the 1880s). It was done to scare Black people into submission and promote the idea of White Supremacy. Yes, the Confederate Battle Flag sort of got reclaimed as a symbol of rebellion during the 1960s and 1970s with outlaw country artists and The Dukes of Hazzard but even that didn't erase the racial connotations since these were white people doing whatever the fuck they wanted. This imagery just needs to be retired.

I know a lily white woman who only dates black men who are former prisoners or current gang members. She now has 5 kids by different men.

She's a hard worker and provides well for the kids, and they are getting great educations.

Their mother is also a huge Trump supporter, who is anti-BLM, and will defend any cop shooting. She thinks all black men are garbage, except when she wants to be fucked.

I feel for her children. Being biracial and raised by a racist is bound to cause some issues.

(She of course doesn't see herself as a racist, because her children are half black, so how could she?)

So presumably the father's child is a POC and she's doing this to be an asshole to him.

Right, the father is black, and the Confederate flag is her deliberately being racist to upset him. Sounds like that's exactly what the court said in their ruling, too:

[quote]“Further, and viewed pragmatically, the presence of the Confederate flag is a symbol inflaming the already strained relationship between the parties,” Pritzker continued. “As such, while recognizing that the First Amendment protects the mother's right to display the flag if it is not removed by June 1, 2021, its continued presence shall constitute a change in circumstances and Family Court shall factor this into any future best interests analysis.”

R16 - I would think this gesture should already put her custody into question and peril.

Women will lie and attack and do any amount of fucked up things in custody proceedings. I've seen it many times with guys I work with. It's a scorched earth policy among SOME women and unfortunately, they often get away with it or with few consequences.

Courts still see the mother as a better parent, despite any evidence that they are lying, manipulating and vindictive. They want 100% custody, to estrange the father, while making the father pay child support. That's the end goal - the men have to pay through the nose while having limited interaction with the child. It's truly fucked up system and needs to be corrected. It's not 1958 anymore.
