I Feel Like Shit Unless I Do Some Form of Exercise Everyday

The sedentary life is not for me. My body has spoken. If I even spend one day sitting around on my ass, I feel terrible the next day.

Yes, in my 50s my body doesn’t feel right until my joints make the sound of cracking wallnuts that only resistance training provides.

by Anonymousreply 1May 11, 2021 12:25 AM

Exercise releases endorphins which can elevate your mood but completing an exercise routine also gives you a feeling of accomplishment. It's good to have the occasional day of just loafing around, watching TV, napping and such, but being active whenever possible is optimum.

Simply going for a walk makes a difference too if you're older and can't manage strenuous workouts.

Yeah I’m not saying I have to be in the gym squatting 400, it just has to be —something—. A 15 minute walk to the store. Cutting the grass, trimming the hedges. Throwing some mulch. Anything.

I love sitting around on my ass watching TV but for some reason it just doesn’t agree with me anymore.

by Anonymousreply 5May 11, 2021 12:33 AM

The most exercise I want to get is walking from my Rolls Royce into my favorite restaurant

by Anonymousreply 6May 11, 2021 12:37 AM

GMA and other morning shows have segments about this every morning. You hear this your whole life. What makes this so profound?

by Anonymousreply 7May 11, 2021 1:11 AM

[QUOTE] What makes this so profound?

Cause now I’m saying it.

by Anonymousreply 8May 11, 2021 1:21 AM

I was active until rupturing my achilles last july. The heal time on this injury is slow and not linear. I was immobilized for essentially 5 months during the stress of the election and covid. I also had to move back home with my mother during all this. I think something in me broke. It is now 10 months post-injury and I am 25 lbs heavier, depressed to the bone and have anxiety issues. I’m trying to claw my way out of it but its a terrible place to be.

by Anonymousreply 9May 11, 2021 1:42 AM

I’m real sorry to hear that, R9.

by Anonymousreply 10May 11, 2021 1:45 AM

Sorry to hear that r9. Maybe some short term meds will help you bounce back.

I had a surgical procedure April 30 and have to limit my physical activity until this Friday. I am not supposed to bend over and, sex aside, it’s amazing how many times a day one bends! I have to squat and bend at my knees to feed my pets, unload the dishwasher and dryer, pick up dirty laundry.

I am feeling stuck, stiff and fat. I can’t wait to at least get out for a walk.

[quote] I Feel Like Shit

Put it in the toilet, dear!

by Anonymousreply 13May 11, 2021 2:18 AM

I wish I were more like you, OP.

Except for the part where you spell the phrase "every day" as one word as if it were an adjective. xxoo

But I do wish I felt the same way.

by Anonymousreply 14May 11, 2021 3:12 AM

Yeah I'm exactly the same, I need to do a 10-20 km bike ride, a 1-2 km swim or at least an hours walking every day. I feel like I missed something if I dont do at least an hour of something active

A day just sitting around is not a good day for me, and not relaxing

by Anonymousreply 15May 11, 2021 6:22 AM

I think some people just have more energy. I feel just fine laying on my ass all day!

by Anonymousreply 16May 11, 2021 6:27 AM

R14 love it

Here's the truth: covid has taught us (and really brought home for me) that how healthy you are matters in ways that you would never expect. The number one covid risk factor was Age 65 & Over, number two was Obesity. The world is getting more and more connected; more pandemics ARE coming. Do you want the best chance to survive? Lose weight, get fit.

I took that to heart last March and I am at the point where I WANT to be doing something active, but I did NOT start that way.

by Anonymousreply 17May 12, 2021 3:35 PM

Humblebragging.

by Anonymousreply 18May 12, 2021 3:39 PM

You get used to it.

by Anonymousreply 19May 12, 2021 3:43 PM

[quote]Throwing some mulch.

Does it stick together well enough to really be an effective projectile? Asking for some neighbors I hate.

by Anonymousreply 20May 12, 2021 4:21 PM

I feel the same.

Hated gym closures.

by Anonymousreply 21May 12, 2021 4:32 PM

I actually hate the gym, R21, but I do have a membership to a cheap one and keep my visits minimal.

by Anonymousreply 22May 12, 2021 8:07 PM

I relate; I am the same way.

I want you to exercise inside of me and make my body speak, op.

by Anonymousreply 23May 12, 2021 8:20 PM

Same here OP

Fortunately I have a large dog who requires ample exercise so even on off days I go on at least two very long walks.

During the pandemic I also learned to make yoga a part of my recovery days, yin yoga, which is very relaxing and not really strenuous--it;s about mobility

by Anonymousreply 24May 12, 2021 8:26 PM

R17, that’s a great point. Living through a pandemic, coupled with becoming a parent, has really put into focus how important my health is. Doing some form of daily exercise has become a routine that I really enjoy and that my body craves on “rest” days.

by Anonymousreply 25May 12, 2021 10:03 PM

I'm the same way. Intense exercise is even better. But walking will do.

by Anonymousreply 26May 12, 2021 10:07 PM

[QUOTE] Fortunately I have a large dog who requires ample exercise so even on off days I go on at least two very long walks.

I’d love to have a dog for walking but I’m away from home so much, it would probably get lonely.

by Anonymousreply 27May 13, 2021 12:11 AM

I'm with R16. I'm on the computer all day and my only exercise is lifting food to my mouth (and typing). I'm in my 50's, don't eat well and feel fine. I'm not even fat, just a bit of a tummy. I hate exercising with a passion.

by Anonymousreply 28May 13, 2021 1:05 AM

It will catch up to you soon enough, R28.
