More than that approve of his response to the pandemic—including almost half of Republicans.
He's doing a good job, even if you think it's too rosy the fact that people who called themselves repugs say they approve means something.

It's all on how you phrase the question. It makes sense that people would believe we were better off than we were a year ago due to the devastating affects of the pandemic and the fact that there was no vaccine. It hasn't been smooth sailing but Biden so far hasn't fucked up with the vaccine distribution even though he tried to take credit for its development and floated a race based system before it was quickly shot down. Ask them how we compare 4 years ago and you'll get a more accurate assessment.

when I asked for sample size I meant how many Democrats were asked compared to Republicans
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 10, 2021 5:54 PM |
We should stop focusing on the diehard trump fans and start focusing on the sane majority. They only feel more empowered when you talk about how many republicans believe in election fraud, vaccine conspiracies, etc. And in reality, a majority of repubs is a 1/5th sliver of Americans. Time to show them who the "real Americans" are-- us, not them.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 10, 2021 5:57 PM |
I think the Trump loons are so far beyond salvation at this point that we might as well wash our hands of them. There will always be crazies in every country. Maybe it's lack of education or indoctrination or whatever, but they'll always be here. Many old school Republicans I know are horrified by what's happened the last 4 years.
I believe Biden has been doing an excellent job and I've never been more proud of voting for someone in my life, especially when I think about what a shit show we'd be in if he hadn't won.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 10, 2021 7:43 PM |
R18 is conveniently forgetting that there's decent polling evidence that one of the reasons behind Trump's decent (for a Republican) showing among Hispanic voters in the Rio Grande Valley in TX was that a lot of them are struggling and they got a check with Trump's name on it.
I'm sure that doesn't bother him so much.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 10, 2021 7:47 PM |
While Trumptards still make up the mass of GOP voters, the good news is that there are fewer and fewer GOP voters every day.
Tens of thousands have fled the party in the wake of 1/6
That's not nothing either--they had to actively call up whatever body in their state is in charge of registered voters and ask to be switched to Independent or Democrat. So there are likely tens of thousands more who just decided they were fed up but did nothing about it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 10, 2021 7:50 PM |

Voter turnout was huge in 2020 and by huge, we mean that 40%(ish) of the eligible voters didn't show up. That means 60% did. Trump got 47%(ish) of the vote. 47% of 60% is 28%.
Sorry that math is hard.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 11, 2021 2:16 PM |

It's only been for months. It's amazing just thinking that. If Biden keeps doing what and how he's doing, and we get some indictments coming, it will be the fade out of the Trump Maggots.
The Republicans will have no choice but to gather around Cheney, and the more moderate wing.

538 now has his approval rating average (among registered voters) at 52.5%.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 17, 2021 5:39 PM |
Today’s NPR poll has Biden at 53%, which is right where you would expect since Biden got 51.3% of the vote in 2020. One thing that is interesting is that Biden is at 50% in the Midwest and South, and 52% in the West. However, he’s at an incredible 64% in the (blue) Northeast. The Northeast is going to vote Democratic no matter what, so it looks like the battleground areas of the country will be a lot closer, similar to 2016 and 2020.

Ok worried his calm and professional demeanor won’t be enough to keep both houses.
Of course I’d love to see us expand our hold of the senate so we can shitcan that dickhead manchin, but typically both houses see losses in the midterms. That could mean a solid Republican Congress and then nothing gets done for two years.

I think Trump will be fighting so many lawsuits and even criminal cases brought against him by Georgia, NYState and Manhatten by Cyrus Vance that he will be a vile afterthought. I may be too optimistic but I believe justice will eventually catch up with him. If it doesn't then life sucks. It will be hugely unfair but then life is , isn't it? I'm not saying I think the orange creature will spend any prison time but his life will be miserable and he will lose the few marbles still rattling around his misshapen skull. It's obvious that he is unraveling-or is he trying for a mentally defective -an Uncle Jr. defense so to speak.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 17, 2021 9:49 PM |
The Democrats may in fact lose the House and Senate, but it is far from a done deal.
For the House, polarization and gerrymandering have made most districts so no competitive that there are not many places left where Republicans could take the seat. Redistricting may change that, but it’s not like Republicans left any stone unturned with their 2010 partisanship.
For the Senate. Democrats have some advantage and redistricting won’t have any impact.
That said, the blatant anti-D/democratic nature of our politics is shocking. Democrats routinely get far more votes and wield less actual power. Republicans may win these games, but it’s a pretty shameful win.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 17, 2021 10:26 PM |
Trumptards are so pathetic, deluded, and not very smart. They mirror Dear Leader’s “viewpoint” that he was going to win the 2016 and 2020 elections or they were “rigged.” A latency aged child on the playground could see through this primitive “logic.” Don’t like the information, then attack the source! Lol...The AP is an apolitical, valid, news organization with decades of solid reporting. In other words, it ain’t Newsmax/OAN/Fox/Sinclair. It is bizarre that they hang around here for their jollies. Maybe after the next couple election cycles they’ll finally give up, or die off. Trumputin’s myriad criminal cases, civil lawsuits, and prohibition from social media may also help us finally end this national nightmare.

Oh here comes the “inflation” trolls who think we’ll go back to the 70s. Fuck you we will NEVER listen to you again.
When gas prices were falling during the Obama term, media in TX were saying how HORRIBLE it would be for TX and the energy sector. They’d gotten use to gas in the $2.50-$3.25 range. Prices were falling and it was all Obama’s fault TX energy had to lay off workers. So I have to laugh there is none of that now that prices are, temporarily, going up due to a fucking hack NOT a policy.
Uncle Joe is doing an amazing job. Just look at the frothing at the mouth trolls that have infested DL lately as proof.

Wages are going up significantly for millions of Americans. I just saw a story on the news that many companies are now paying $15 hour to get new employees, in addition to a $1000 signing bonus! This would have been unimaginable a year or two ago. Things are definitely changing.
The raise $15 minimum wage that Bernie and his supporters screamed for is happening under Biden, and without any new legislation from Congress.

R54, what polling in 2016 was inaccurate? Trump outperformed the polls by 1-3%, within the margin of error—2-3% in the swing states where it counted. The polls generally projected Hillary to win, and she did win the popular vote by only slightly less than projected.

Trump's first big wet kiss "gimmie" was to the 1% and corporations. Estimated cost to American Taxpayers: 2.1 TRILLION dollars. He did step up and pass out another TRI::ION dollars at the start of the pandemic, even insisted his name was emblazed on it. Of course all this greatly increased the debt and deficit. Fellow Repugs were OUTRAGED! Oh wait, no they weren't...Didn't matter to them a bit. Oh but these crazy DEMS are going to bankrupt the country they say. GOT IT! I
