How do you know? I never noticed a sign, and I lived literally across 6th Street from the Pits/Museum in Park LaBrea when I first moved to L.A.

Although it looks like a dirty pond The La Brea Tar Pits are one of the most fascinating aspects of the history of LA. This picture is from 1910. Hard to believe what the outskirts of LA looked like then
