I just watched an interview with Stacey Abrams and she wants to be President. She’s great at what she does, keep doing it and excel there. She will NEVER be President. Why is everyone’s ego so massive now and what’s wrong with specializing in something and not being top dog?
Why can’t people stay in their lane?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 11, 2021 7:37 AM |
Do you mean that black people shouldn't get too uppity and should know their place OP?
How about gay people? Should we all just crawl back in the closet and stop rubbing it in people's faces?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 9, 2021 4:02 PM |
She couldn't even get elected Governor.

She openly campaigned to get named VP by Biden. Though she claimed then SHE should be President. She's done a great job organizing in Georgia though most of the work was done by other people, notably a white woman whose name escapes me now. She's a long-time Democratic operative.
Stacey's got a massive ego and believed all the gushing media coverage about her.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 9, 2021 4:12 PM |
R1 this could also apply to tons of white people too, like every single Senator of House member under the age of 50. It was actually a compliment to her that she has found her niche and why not continue knock it out of the park? She could transform the country by being the voting guru.
But you sure wasted no time slamming that Race Card on the table.
“I wish people could evolve & look past race.” ...proceeds to bring up race in every conversation...
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 9, 2021 4:12 PM |
Also from OP:
"Why can't black people stop having dreams and ambitions and just go back to picking cotton and sitting at the back of the bus?"
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 9, 2021 4:13 PM |
R8 how psychotic. This is part of the problem. I can shit on every white person from Dylan Geick to Demi Moore on here, but dare mention a vaunted and “infallible” black woman and you might as well have bed sheets on. YOU are the one who sees race here.

DL has a weird defensive fixation on Stacey Abrams. It has granted her some entitlement it imagines the country shares. I think it's got something to do with Dreamgirls. Anyway, never look to DL for a rational assessment of a woman in politics. It's all diva shit.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 9, 2021 4:20 PM |
Personally, I think she doesn’t come across as having much of a “warmth” on TV. At least in interviews.

R13 the YASSSS KWEENS love her
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 9, 2021 4:21 PM |
R12 she’s competent now but not at a higher level
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 9, 2021 4:22 PM |
R14 Stacey has a superiority complex, probably overcompensating for the fact she's obese and dark-skinned and doesn't attract black men.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 9, 2021 4:24 PM |
It’s amazing how all the diva-worshiping YASSSS KWEENS are ready to hand the world over to black women. Black women are hella homophobic, white women see us as accessories at least, black women see us as sewer trash who steal their men and spread the AIDS.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 9, 2021 4:26 PM |
Since we’re going to spew our opinions here, I think she’s a low-ley butch lesbian and very unhappy person, who blames her misfortune on everyone else but takes no personal responsibility, and she’s an insatiable ego monster that will never be sufficed. A real lost cause.

R21 her lane was being a man, a doormat to the K girls and motivational speeches.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 9, 2021 4:46 PM |
She won that election that was completely rigged by the current scum GA gov Kemp. I'd love for her to be president.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 9, 2021 4:51 PM |
For the same reason that idiots like OP use phrases like "stay in their lane" incorrectly.
To state that she wants to be president is NOT an example of not staying in her lane.
One of the reasons facts and data are ignored is that people have come to think things can mean anything they want them to mean, not what they actually do. When something can mean anything, it means nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 9, 2021 4:53 PM |
^^^ one more thing.
As a practical matter, announcing she wants to be president or aspires to be president is actually an example of STAYING IN HER LANE.
Nothing is more one's own business more than planning and aspiring for one's own future.

I had a totally different reaction to OP’s question. Thinking more along the lines of rock stars wanting to be Oscar-winning actors or supermodels with fragrance lines or Oscar-winning actors showing their paintings in big gallery shows I guess it’s more that creative people are creative, but sometimes it strikes me as greedy.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 9, 2021 5:42 PM |
R30 the “Everything to Everbody” culture bullshit and decline in pride in specialization was the point, but we got derailed by Miss R1 and the rest of the YASSSS KWEENS who like to play poker with race cards, constantly.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 9, 2021 6:20 PM |
FFS - "stay in your lane" means to mind your own business.
It doesn't mean what you fools keep thinking it does.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 9, 2021 6:33 PM |
R32 it has multiple meanings and depends if you’re talking on a macro or micro level. It could apply to Kim Kardashian getting into law or at work someone in accounting telling someone from shipping to not get involved with their books or Stacey keeping her focus on voter turnout, where she excels, and not on obtaining national office where she would not.

Dayton, OH Mayor Nan Whaley wants to be Governor now. When she first appeared in the media (after a mass shooting) I was taken aback by her disheveled appearance (ratty hair, etc.). Then she started appearing more groomed and poised. So I guess she's using her response to a tragedy as a springboard to bigger things.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 9, 2021 9:55 PM |
R35, they almost all do. It's a series of trade ups... and in fairness better to build a track record and name rec than simply announce I will be Queen or King or what have you.
I work adjacent to the city political levels. What I have seen has sickened and disgusted me. These people are not quality. You get one Barak Obama out of every thousand of them, maybe ten thousand, based on what I've seen. Half of them plainly didn't get enough love in their childhood.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 9, 2021 10:05 PM |
OP, what you don’t understand is whether it’s Stacey Abrams or Josh Hawley, you’re dealing with people who’ve spent their whole lives being the best and the brightest in the room. Once they find themselves in positions of power, they exist in echo chambers where everyone tells them how great they are. They have no reason to think they can’t fail because on their world it happens so rarely.
Besides, a black man with the middle name “Hussein” was elected President over a war bet during two wars. He pretty much proved anything is possible...so there really is no lane to stay in.

OP has a LONG history of racism here at DL.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 9, 2021 10:39 PM |
that's an old thing though r26. Every Senator looking in a mirror saw a President for about 200 years. Though in fairness, at least they'd gotten somewhere politically before deciding to take that next step.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 9, 2021 10:40 PM |
R1, it's racist of you to suggest that Ms. Abrams' goal cannot be questioned, although the OP is being racist by using the term "stay in her...... lane."
To me, any person believing she or he is qualified to be president shows peculiar pride, a severe lack of self-perspective, and an embarrassing pride. But that's the nature of politics.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 9, 2021 10:45 PM |

OP I'll first address your lazy bitch ass for not even linking interview you are referring to.
Next, I'll drag you for taking her comments totally out of context. This is not announcement that she's running for president one day. She goes on to explain she simply holds it as an ambition because she wants to set an example for young women and people of color, who may think they can't pursue their aspirations.
And as I have told you bitches on several occasions, Stacey Abrams has created her own fucking lane and freeway. She does not need the confines of being a public elected official to continue doing the work of the Lord and getting democrats like Joe Biden elected (who had a slim chance in hell without Stacey Abrams and Jim Clyburn).
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 9, 2021 11:59 PM |

AMERICA HATES WOMEN LEADERS!
No, stay in your lane, woman! Put make up on woman! You caused that nice man to flip out and murder you, Karen! Get your body looking great and satisfy me woman. You cannot do anything a man can do, woman. When you're old you're useless. Just be a sweet woman. You have no brain, no leadership qualities. EVERYTHING you earned was because men were nice enough to give it to you. Have the babies, take care of the children, you muscleless, slow, emasculated creature.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 10, 2021 12:44 AM |
Why can't Stacey Abrams be president one day? She has a lot of future ahead of her. If you're worried she doesn't have the right look a la Kamala Harris or some good looking male, I can easily see her as a Golda Meir type comfort candidate. Maybe we'll be mature enough as a country to not worry about looks some day.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 10, 2021 2:19 AM |
I usually don't go in for political conspiracies, but I do think her loss in that GA Governor's Race was fishy, and she running against the guy who was in charge of the state's elections.
I think what's great about this country is that anyone can be president. If she's willing to put in the work and do what's required to be president, then why not?

I'm sure that OP is unaware that Abrams earned degrees from Spelman (B.A.), University of Texas Austin (Masters of Public Affairs) and a law degree from Yale University. That education alone makes her more qualified than 65% of the members of Congress and most of our past Presidents. She has written 10 books (eight novels), founded a nutrition company, has had a legal practice, was a deputy attorney for the city of Atlanta, served in the Georgia legislature for 11 years, most of those years as the minority leader in the Georgia General Assembly, in addition to her amazing success in registering Democrats in her state and getting them to vote. I agree that she would have trouble winning the Presidency in the US, because the electorate is, by and large, poorly educated, ignorant, and racist. She is not photogenic, and I'd guess that a full quarter of the electorate chooses candidates purely on the basis of looks and/or having seen the face and name on TV. But that's not on her. That's on US.
Now if Marjorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Bohbert or Madison Cawthorne announced a potential run for President, OP's question would be valid.

r74, Invalid comparison.
