may the republican party, grow, and grow and grow... kinda like a really body engulfing tumor.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 7, 2021 3:04 AM |
The Republican party IS the Trump party now. The voters and what they've been programmed with by the tight right wing ecosystem of Fox News, OANN, Newsmax, podcasts and conservative radio are anti-Democratic and corrupt.
Liz Cheney's problem is thinking there's enough left of the former Republican party to salvage. Her father was part of its decline as well. She's tried to position herself to assume control of the original guard, but there's not enough of them left and they're all afraid to support her publicly because Trump controls so much of their voting base.
She's going to have to switch to an Independent or something once they push her out of her committees and leadership position.

Hmm. I guess we’ll have to see next year in the mid-terms—what type of Republican will do well. I don’t believe Trump Republicanism will last, it’s not sustainable. I think they’ll do well next year in places like Michigan but will get voted out in 26.

R8 he controls most of the party. It's not going to go away because the rot is already there. Someone smarter will come along and fill the hole he leaves if he were to croak suddenly.
The party is beyond saving and has poisoned democracy in America so badly it has done permanent damage to the country.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 7, 2021 10:21 AM |
[quote][R8] he controls most of the party. It's not going to go away because the rot is already there. Someone smarter will come along and fill the hole he leaves if he were to croak suddenly.
That is true *now*, but his support appears to be based on the cult of Trump and even though they are desperately trying, none of the others like Cruz, Hawley, etc. appear able to grab the MAGA crown. Plus, anyone who Trump believes is a threat is someone he will make every effort to shit all over.
I read an article in which some lawyer recounted this candid, off the record (which of course went on the record) with Ron Johnson and Ron conceded that yes, Trump is an asshole & a loon, but he brought all these people to the party that in some cases never even voted before, therefore, Trump was worth the trouble he caused. The problem is that these people will vote for *Trump* or some Trump endorsed candidate. There is no indication that they'll transfer their loyalty to some "Trump like" figure.
So while I'd like to think that Liz is right & that the RP can rid themselves of Trump, unfortunately I think Lady G's assessment that the Repigs are nothing without Trump - because who else do they have left besides the Q-Anon loons, fundies & racists?
I think eventually Liz & others will split off into a separate party

The Republican Party can’t survive without SATAN !
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 7, 2021 10:36 AM |
R11 my point was that it doesn't matter if it's Trump or someone else, because someone like him is who the Republican party wants in charge. The chances of someone as stupid and lazy as Trump taking over after Trump goes away are low so that leaves you with a calculated person like Hawley or Cotton, which will be far worse.
The party itself didn't get there because of Trump, it got there because they wanted someone like Trump to lead it.
Trump can nominate who he likes but he's mainly going to suffer the same problems as the tea party in that his candidates might be able to win a primary but they can't win in the general. He's already done this while he was President and while he has a few wins, he also has losses. So his endorsement might matter for the primary but be an anchor beyond.

People will burn out from this extremism in both sides. I’m burned out from it already but I suspect it’ll be an entire decade of it. I’m without a political party because of it.

There are no consequences for the GOP. They’re only going to get worse
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 7, 2021 12:57 PM |
"So, what happens to the Party when Trump dies?"
Well given the fact that they are destroying all the mechanisms of a working democracy, I would say it really doesn't matter what happens to them. Because they will always be in power.
You all realize that, right? They are shooting for permanent minority rule. And it looks like they'll succeed.
Prepare for violent riots in 2022, 2024. Shit is going to get crazy-ugly when state legislatures start rejecting election results that favor democrats.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 7, 2021 12:58 PM |
Democrats may be feeling exhausted, sure. Most retired ‘politics’ as an interest the instant Biden got inaugurated. But the Republicans are as fired up as ever. They thrive on this shit. When talking about “sustainability” the reality is the Democratic movement is going to fall first, and Republicans know this. The future doesn’t look pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 7, 2021 1:07 PM |
LadyG's obsessive romantic crush on the orange conman has damaged American democracy. South Carolina Republican voters and the news media treat it as endearing. It is not. It is nasty and harmful.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 7, 2021 1:22 PM |
What is the essence of this insane, cult-like allegiance to a conman who lost the party both the White House and the Senate? Fear of the base? Fund-raising? Tax cuts for the rich?

by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 7, 2021 1:29 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 7, 2021 1:29 PM |
"When talking about “sustainability” the reality is the Democratic movement is going to fall first"
Democrats as party? Yes but by utter corruption and chicanery - not via legitimate elections.
And if you think the blood wont flow for both parties, you're on crack.
It's mind-blowing that Republicans are this short-sighted. They really think they can just rig everything and then they'll be in power peacefully forever, and everyone will neatly fall in line. When in reality, their blood will run just as much as the other side, if not more.
If the Republican plan is successful in the way they all intend, the ensuing riots and revolt in this country will make what's happening in Myanmar look like a snowball fight.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 7, 2021 2:19 PM |
I don’t think the Republicans care about peace though.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 7, 2021 2:20 PM |
As I said on a different thread: without Trump's cult of personality, they truly have nothing else to push. Can you name a single policy they tried to push since 2016 that was designed, in any way, to improve the life quality and the living standard of their base? Their main selling point is "culture wars" because they have literally nothing else. Even the police, who they claimed to be such strong supporters of, got pushed under the bus during and after the insurrection. Once Trump's out of the picture, dead, jailed, or completely marginalized, without a reality show or a social media pedestal, what will motivate their base? That Stefanik creature? Or Josh Hawley? Or Kevin McCarthy? Those people have no platform to campaign on. I mean, Dr. seuss will not pay for your child's health care plan or education. Or create the nonexistent jobs.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 7, 2021 3:36 PM |
Their whole platform is to crush Democrats and Democracy. Trump may have set it off but there are plenty waiting in the wings to take up the torch. Noem is the one you should be watching out for, IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 7, 2021 3:52 PM |
"Once Trump's out of the picture, dead, jailed, or completely marginalized, without a reality show or a social media pedestal, what will motivate their base? "
Please remember Trump is a symptom, not the sickness itself. The base is already motivated and manipulated by a powerful propaganda eco-system that they internalize as the gospel truth. Fox News. OAN. Newsmax.
I used to think this would be a cold civil war. But this is going to spark massive violence. And Republicans couldnt be happier.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 7, 2021 3:59 PM |
Trump was never the problem. Who in their right mind could believe Trump is this brilliant, charismatic orator? He's racist, un-American, scheming, lying filth with the vocabulary of a 9 yo and all he did was say outright what we all knew the GOP to be from the moment Dems took up the mantel of civil rights. But we constantly had/have media and enablers within the Democratic party --even now-- who insist on trying to make excuses for these assholes. Trying to justify their repugnant mentalities or claim that if we said outright these are racist, bigoted swine, we'd lose these people. WE NEVER HAD THEM, because they're selfish scum. Their hate has been emboldened because the media and "moderate" enablers look for every excuse to say that it isn't what they stand for.
Let's make something perfectly clear: They know precisely who gave them $1400 and who tried to stop it from happening. They knew who gave them healthcare. They know precisely who gives tax cuts to the wealthiest. They don't care because they associate the Dems with diversity and they don't want others getting what they get even if those others have earned it.
This started a long time ago and LBJ knew exactly who they were then and so did Lee Atwater and so did every other strategist - even when they go after each other. That's why Karl Rove knew how to win them over for Dubya when he started the whisper campaign about McCain's "black child." You don't do that for any other reason than you know your audience.
The GOP is garbage and it appeals to garbage. Lying garbage. The AZ "audit" and who is running it and why its even happening is all you need to know about what absolute trash the party is now. They're just low-life filth at this point.

The only way Trump is finally stopped is if the GOP gets destroyed in the 2022/2024 elections. Then, they might finally get rid of him and rebuild (which could take years unless there’s a catastrophic recession or pandemic again).
That would require Democrats and Independents to turn out and vote in 2022 and 2024 like they did in 2020.
Otherwise they’re stuck with him and so are the rest of us.

No. Like Graham, she said tons of shit about Trump, but when they saw that the Republican voters wanted to be openly-racist, bigoted trash once and for all, all of these Republican whores groveled. It’d be like if the GOP remained in the thralls of Herbert Hoover after the 1932 election, the last time an incumbent president lost after not having to deal with either an in-party fight for renomination or a strong third-party candidate in the general election.

Graham shows no principles. I am shocked the media and his Senate colleagues keep him front and center. He's clever with quick quips, but always access what he does, not how and what he says. His mode of operandi hàs always been being a sidekick to an older political guy of influence.
His infatuation with Trump goes beyond a political allegiance. Beyond the passion, I would not dismiss some level of kompromat is at play. Something was foretold during those first two golf outings with DJT. That transformation was very rapid.

The Republicans have allowed racism, hate, willful ignorance, bad faith arguments, lies, authoritarianism, and now anti-democracy to take over the party. So yeah, Trump encompasses all of that.

Lindsey saying there is no alternative to Trump in the GQP sounds predestined. It is Lindsey and his GQP cohorts that created the situation through their enabling votes, rhetoric, and sycophantic behavior. Graham has done such to the extreme. Linrsey's passion for and love of Trump goes way beyond politics and needs to be privately confined to the intense feelings they have for each other. Democracy shouldn't suffer due to the 'nasty'.

Lindsey is cable news gold.
For right leaning people, he offers unwavering obedience to Dear Leader. He predates the Tea Party, so he’s the grande dame of the GOP.
For left leaning people, :he seems to be a bitchy old closet case who flip flops and can’t be trusted, always ready with a cunty soundbite that someone like Joy Reid or Rachel Maddie can mock and destroy. It’s low hanging fruit (pardon the pun).
