About seven or eight years ago, I went to an '80s-style concert featuring Sam Harris and Debbie Gibson. I was excited to se them both. Sam was great and basically carried the show. Debbie was clearly billed as star of the show since it of course...it was Debbie Gibson! Well, luckily as I said, Sam carried the show. He was quite good and entertaining. However, Debbie's voice was shot. She just doesn't have the pipes any longer. It was very disappointing.

^^It seems like she just screams the lyrics. She may not have taken care of her voice along the way. Or maybe we were just unaware whether or not she had much of a voice to begin with. Her '80s songs were great, but maybe they were all mixed and manufactured in the by a technician in the studio.

I’ve seen recent vids of Debbie in concert and her voice is terrible.

Wow. I was never a fan really of her younger voice. It was kind of tinny for lack of a better word. Her voice is so much lower now and it’s like she has no idea how to sing anymore.

Debbie could sing live back in the 80s and 90s. Watch some her live performances from back then. She didn't sound much different than her studio albums. She wasn't a studio made singer.

I'm not sure exactly when or what made her voice degrade, but first noticed it when she and Tiffany performed on the Today show around a decade ago. I was shocked how bad Debbie's voice sounded. Tiffany still sounded great, probably even better than in the late 80s.

Debbie suffered from a lot of health problems in her 30's. Lyme's disease went undiagnosed for a while. That might have added to the degradation of her voice.

She's was a good singer in the 80's but wow! WTF happened?

There can be a lot of things that make singers lose their voices. Not taking care of it, drugs, smoking, drinking and so on. Whitney and Mariah's vocal degradation has been much discussed her on DL.

It can happen to men singers too. Jon Bon Jovi was really straining trying to get trough Livin' on a Prayer when his band was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame a few years back. He sounded awful.

It’s funny you all claim she was a good singer. She was a thin voiced pop singer with no pipes.

I remember her “Think With Your Heart” album from 1995, which was supposed to be her big comeback album and her transition to appeal to adults now. My mom would listen to it but only liked a few songs from it.

Her best song from that 1995 album was “Didn’t Have The Heart”. It should have been a hit.

I think the anything is possible album was supposed to be her grown up album. She worked with Lamont dozier and jellybean Benitez on it.

I’m not surprised their shows sold out. Block nation is still huge and Debbie toured with nkotb, Tiffany, naughty by nature and salt and pepa on the mixtape tour. Nkotb package tours have been super successful.

Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight both tried to have solo careers around 1999 during that teen pop explosion. I can see why Joey's solo career never took off. He really doesn't have a voice for R&B or adult contemporary pop music. He sounds more suited for the theatre which makes sense as that's where he was trained. Jordan Knight was the one with the pop star voice but he was lazy and lacked ambition to make a solo career for himself.

I never liked NKOTB. They were cheesy, not too talented and trying to trade on their youth and marginal looks. I always thought Debbie was cute, talented and had quite a few good songs back in the day, but I won't be attending. My hat is off to them hough. It must be hard trying to make a come back after being away for such a long time (other than sporadic spurts in and out of the limelight). They certainly are not gonna grow their fanbase, but hopefully they can generate enough nostalgia to bring the old fans back. Good luck to them!

Backstreet Boys were good, though. They were far better live singers than NKOTB. They also benefitted from Max Martin productions, which have aged better than a lot of NKOTB songs.

"I Want It That Way" is a great pop song.

Backstreet Boys are really good singers, especially AJ and Brian and as a group their harmonies are great. NSYNC also sounded good vocally when they harmonized acapella and JC has a great voice. The boyband Westlife can sing very well too.

You're right R103 For a while I thought NKOTB, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC were all the same people. They all were very mediocre. Joey is lucky to be working at all.

Jackson 5 (best boy band ever!), New Edition and Boys II Men actually had talent!

BSB had good albums and they harmonized well.. Justin Timberlake's whole career was better than anything by NSYNC. Jordan Knight's solo album is better than anything by NKOTB. Same could be said about Harry Styles and Robbie Williams in relation to their boy bands.

I would say New Edition had the most talent as a whole. Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv Devoe and Ralph Tresvant all had great success.

Boyz II Men and Jodeci (and K-Ci and Jojo) were amazing.

The Jackson 5 was great and the later incarnation The Jacksons had many classic songs.

I've never understood the success of The Osmonds or Bay City Rollers.

The Beatles and Beach Boys were groundbreaking. The Monkees were a lot better than people think especially in their later years.

They probably sold out because yes the over 40 fraus, but also their ticket prices are reasonable and when NKOTB reunited they embraced the meet and greets and maximized the VIP packages early on but overall kept their price point affordable. The package tours were a great idea and have kept them in arenas.

I don’t think Donnie was able to get into movies or tv from springboarding off marks success. He’s a decent actor and a solid supporting player.

I thought Joey was pretty funny in the heat and could slide into character parts easily.

Danny is ugly/hot and though not conventionally handsome oozes sex appeal and alpha male energy in person. Despite Jon’s panic attacks and anxiety he interacts with fans the most.
