While on vacation in India in 2017, he met Ayush Thakur and moved to India to live with him.

An American, he hoped to improve the representation of gay people in Indian media.

Sad

I'm very sad to read this, he sounds like a good young man. Thank you for posting. May his memory be a blessing.

by Anonymousreply 1May 5, 2021 12:49 AM

Any pictures of the top?

by Anonymousreply 2May 5, 2021 12:51 AM

I was told only the old and obese die of Covid.

by Anonymousreply 3May 5, 2021 1:07 AM

This is why you shouldn't live in a shithole country

by Anonymousreply 4May 5, 2021 1:10 AM

yikes

by Anonymousreply 5May 5, 2021 1:11 AM

Aww he’s cute.

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2021 1:11 AM

wow, that's awful. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 7May 5, 2021 1:13 AM

35? Oh.

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2021 1:13 AM

R4 = Log Cabin whore.

by Anonymousreply 9May 5, 2021 1:18 AM

More and more younger healthy people are dying from COVID.

by Anonymousreply 10May 5, 2021 1:24 AM

Sad. He seemed like a good guy

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2021 1:27 AM

sad :(

by Anonymousreply 12May 6, 2021 11:14 PM

The OP's article is behind a registration/pay wall.

I wonder what this person actually did to be described as 'an activist'?

by Anonymousreply 13May 6, 2021 11:19 PM

R13

He probably held up a sign at a rally once. It doesn’t take much actual activism to label yourself an activist nowadays. Didn’t he move to India?

by Anonymousreply 14May 6, 2021 11:28 PM

So, he was "Just Jack"?

by Anonymousreply 15May 6, 2021 11:31 PM

That is the most attractive photo ever taken of this poor guy, and it was taken at least 10 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 16May 6, 2021 11:33 PM

The whole "gay" lede is off-putting. I wonder why they focused on that. He seems to have lived a hellish childhood:
James’s mother died in a car accident in 1992, and his father committed suicide in 1995.

by Anonymousreply 17May 6, 2021 11:35 PM

This is sad but this is a dangerous strain

by Anonymousreply 18May 6, 2021 11:35 PM

Can you imagine this happening to you when you were 9 years old?
James Robert Williams was born on June 30, 1985, in Florence, in northwest Alabama, and grew up in nearby St. Florian. His mother, Kay (Carter) Williams, was a schoolteacher. His father, Paul Kenneth Williams, a former Marine who served in the Vietnam War, was an I.R.S. agent.
James’s mother died in a car accident in 1992, and his father committed suicide in 1995. Jim, 9, and John, 11, went to live with their father’s sister, Sharon Alexander, a volunteer for nonprofits, and her husband, Bill Alexander, a financial executive, in East Amherst, N.Y., near Buffalo.

by Anonymousreply 19May 6, 2021 11:35 PM

He really had it rough: "James’s mother died in a car accident in 1992, and his father committed suicide in 1995."

by Anonymousreply 20May 6, 2021 11:37 PM

What a shame. All he had to do was fly home to the US and get a vaccine. Our government and military bust their asses to give us some privileges , he should have taken advantage of the vaccine opportunities in the US.

by Anonymousreply 21May 6, 2021 11:38 PM

r19 r20 Type faster, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 22May 6, 2021 11:39 PM

This new variant is terrifying. One of my old co-workers had 5 of her cousins die and they were 25 to 36 years old. They were only sick a week.

by Anonymousreply 23May 6, 2021 11:41 PM

His poor brother

by Anonymousreply 24May 6, 2021 11:42 PM

Man. This is such a sad story. Gay kid growing up in Alabama, both parents die when he is a child. He takes a chance on life to move to India with a guy he meets and then this happens.

by Anonymousreply 25May 6, 2021 11:43 PM

He should have brought the boyfriend to America. Problem solved, everyone survives.

by Anonymousreply 26May 6, 2021 11:45 PM
He takes a chance on life to move to India

Why?

India attracts madness— ie big sister Prudence Farrow.

by Anonymousreply 27May 6, 2021 11:45 PM

I wonder if this is the boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 28May 6, 2021 11:46 PM

It's odd to me they are using a picture from 2011 though, that is 10 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2021 11:48 PM

The trans brigade is here to celebrate the deceased gay guy.

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2021 11:51 PM

Were there any... co-morbidities (and please be discreet)?

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2021 11:52 PM

R29 The more recent picture are less appealing.

by Anonymousreply 32May 6, 2021 11:53 PM

R21 "All he had to do was fly home to the US and get a vaccine." That would have meant abandoning his partner. And current entry restrictions would almost certainly have made return to India difficult if not impossible. Plus, right or wrong most people that age don't feel they're at mortal risk from Covid.

by Anonymousreply 33May 6, 2021 11:54 PM
One of my old co-workers had 5 of her cousins die and they were 25 to 36 years old.

That's a lotta stuff to have. Bet there's a few decent items among all the crap.

by Anonymousreply 34May 7, 2021 12:19 AM

Can't get past the paywall. So what did this guy achieve that merits a nyt obit?

by Anonymousreply 35May 7, 2021 8:37 AM

Here's a pic from 2018.

by Anonymousreply 36May 7, 2021 8:54 AM

Wait, someone [italic]willingly[/italic] moved to India?

by Anonymousreply 37May 7, 2021 10:23 AM

Thanks r38. So whoever selected the pic really wanted to hide that he gained weight so went with this very old picture.

by Anonymousreply 38May 7, 2021 10:26 AM
He should have brought the boyfriend to America. Problem solved, everyone survives.

According to the article, he was trying, now that his bf was a fiance

by Anonymousreply 39May 7, 2021 2:45 PM

That's quite the tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 40May 7, 2021 2:51 PM

Double whammy for them. Last here when 500k died in the US and this year when 500k in India - and counting.

by Anonymousreply 41May 8, 2021 3:34 AM

Who moves to India? For a bottom?

by Anonymousreply 42May 8, 2021 3:52 AM

Looks like a sweet guy who had a hard life. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 43May 13, 2021 8:22 PM

R4 Good thing he got out of American then.

by Anonymousreply 44May 13, 2021 8:24 PM

I wonder if his body was shipped back to relatives in the US or burned outside in a fire pit like all the other Covid bodies in India.

by Anonymousreply 45May 13, 2021 8:29 PM

What do you hope for R45? Burned?
