Based on its location it should be, rather than in line with France, Germany etc
Why is Spain not in the same timezone as the UK and Portugal?

What I dont understand is why they even have Portugal, why doesn't Spain just take over that little strip of land and make it their own.

Because of dictator Franco and it has not been changed since then because it's more convenient, business wise, to be in the same zone as the most of the continent. To make things even worse, we have the bloody summer time change in addition to it. R1 Daniela Ruah wants to speak with you LOL

Merkel has threatened to dish out to Spain what Hitler did to much of Europe if Spain changed its time zone.

Hitler put France on Berlin time, and Franco followed. In summer, Galicia (the part of Spain above Portugal) is 2h40 min ahead of solar time.

Ex-pat Spaniards always went to France, not to Portugal or the UK. It's more convenient b/c time there is similar to time in Spain.

so given the Hitler and Franco link to the time zone, one would think officials and the public would want to change it. Spain and the UK should be in the time zone
