Whatever happened t this corny bitch? She was the low rent Michelle Branch.
She's the epitome of uninteresting.

She dated the singer from Third Eye Blind.
Carlton's second album, Harmonium was released in November 2004. Harmonium debuted at number 33 on the Billboard 200 and descended quickly after, selling fewer than 150,000 copies as of February 2006, which was considered a disappointment after her successful debut. It was produced by Stephan Jenkins from rock band Third Eye Blind, and included darker themes than those on her debut album. Carlton and Jenkins met and began a relationship in mid-2002, when she and Third Eye Blind, of which Jenkins is lead singer, were on tour together. After seeing Carlton perform live, Jenkins entered her dressing room and expressed interest in producing her music, and according to Carlton they "decided very quickly, that we had the same vision for the album". Carlton credited Jenkins with helping her to withstand and protect herself from pressures the record label executives, who wanted to influence the recording process, placed on her. According to Carlton, her label "wasn't very happy" about the decisions she made during the making of the album.

So the female epitome of boring dated the male epitome of boring.

The way she's shoehorned herself into Stevie Nicks' life would make Eve Harrington proud.

I haven't heard any song other than "A Thousand Miles". But I feel like I heard it a thousand times.
I'm waiting on the thread for Donna Lewis.

She is one of those artists who luck out with one mega hit, and she wrote it too. It still comes on in random places. She's set.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 3, 2021 12:10 AM |
People talk about one hit wonders, but how many one hits are as iconic (I think it actually fits here) as ATM? Is there anyone on earth who doesn't recognize that opening riff? She has better songs, but ATM will be remembered.

[post redacted because independent.co.uk thinks that links to their ridiculous rag are a bad thing. Somebody might want to tell them how the internet works. Or not. We don't really care. They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

R4 Stevie is also friendly with Sheryl Crow. Vanessa Carlton and Sheryl Crow are the most boring people on earth. I don't Stevie's ego could handle being friendly with people who eclipse her musically. See: Nancy Sinatra.

Would you rather be Vanessa or Alanis?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 3, 2021 1:23 AM |
R11 Alanis was more interesting but that doesn't say much.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 3, 2021 1:41 AM |
R8 I can't think of any songs from the 2000s that are stone cold classic, as in people will be listening to them in 50 years. The 2000s was a pretty crummy decade for music.

How can you be MORE low rent than Michelle Branch?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 3, 2021 1:50 AM |
R14, because Michelle had actual songwriting talent unlike Vanessa. Even A Thousand Miles has terrible cringe lyrics
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 3, 2021 1:51 AM |
R13, there are a handful of songs and albums that will live on from the 2000s. Not many, but some
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 3, 2021 1:54 AM |
R24 Michelle has a voice like Honey. Vanessa is completely forgetting. The most notable thing about her is her lack of any notable qualities, which I guess is interesting in itself.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 3, 2021 1:55 AM |
R16 I think Hey Ya and Seven Nation Army are probably the songs from that era that will be remembered the most. A Thousand Miles? Not so much. It's not even in the top 50.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 3, 2021 2:05 AM |
r13 someone in the latest Britney Spears thread feels the same way about her as you feel about music from the early 2000s as a whole. Like I said in that thread, its totally dependent upon your age. If you grew up in the early 2000s you will absolutely play songs from that period, 50 years from now, just for the nostalgia of it, even if you werent huge fans of the artists. Crazy In Love will be played and sampled decades from now just because it brings up memories from that period.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 3, 2021 2:45 AM |
I grew up in the early 2000s (31 here) and I think music from that time sucks. Fashion too. The 90s and 2010 onward are way better imo
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 3, 2021 5:46 AM |
Oh and Vanessa Carlton is the spokesperson for that crappy time period. Michelle Branch too, such basic and boring lyricism and music from both of them. And they don't even have the beauty of the pop stars to justify the attention they got.

Brunette singer songwriters became a counter culture thing for awhile after blonde lip syncing dance stars.
Meanwhile Orianthi is the world's best female guitarist and no one gives a rats ass. Rock is dead.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 3, 2021 6:01 AM |
R19 I was in my 20s in the 00s. I think music is much better now than then, and not just the billboard charts. Indie music had gotten pretty bad in the 00s.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 3, 2021 7:19 AM |
Orianthi is probably one of the best guitarists alive right now and no one gives a fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 3, 2021 8:22 AM |
R24 no one cares about instrumentalists anymore. It's all about singing/image.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 3, 2021 8:29 AM |
Vanessa Carlton proudly came out as a bisexual before marrying a man and having babies with him.
I disagree about A Thousand Miles being forgettable. It was a huge hit, it featured in a massive movie which is still appreciated, and lots of people have very fond memories of it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 3, 2021 8:40 AM |
I don't mind OTM by Vanessa and I love Michelle Branch. I agree most early late 90s/2000s pop aged very poorly. The cheap Max Martin/Swedish pop sound got old really quickly. Also the nu-metal, emo and pop punk was pretty embarrassing as well. TRL really pushed that manufactured factory sound and style over substance.
But on the other hand, late 90s/early 2000s hip-hop, R&B, trip-hop, ambience and alternative/post-punk rock era was really good.

I loved her first album Be Not Nobody, especially "Rinse", "Sway" and "Twilight" (although that cover of "Paint It Black" was regrettable). I remember thinking the follow-up Harmonium was a big dip in quality, but in fairness, maybe I'd just outgrown her by that point.
