101 Best Movie Endings of All Time

The Top 10 are below. My verdict is that these are mostly boring art films designed to appeal to a small group of pretentious people.

1. Beau Travail: I never heard of it

2. The Third Man: Heard of it, but have never seen it

3. Mother: that was a good movie

4. Big Night: meh

5. Some Like it Hot: I've seen clips, but not the movie. The clips are interesting.

6. Phoenix: never heard of it

7. 8 1/2: artsy film that I've heard of but never saw (the name alone gets two snaps up!)

8. Eyes Wide Shut: ugh; it sounds like a stupid artsy film about Important Things

9. In a Lonely Place: never heard of it

10. Portrait of a Lady on Fire: never heard of it

It’s a “Look at Me!” List.

[quote]8. Eyes Wide Shut

Really?

I don't hate it like some, but top 10 best ending of all time?

by Anonymousreply 2April 30, 2021 6:44 PM

It's a really stupid list.

Robert Aldrich's film noir classic Kiss Me, Deadly (1955) has a great ending which was shot on the same stretch of beach he used for the final scene of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962). His 1968 film The Legend of Lylah Clare has a memorably bizarre ending.

Billy Elliott

Fatal Attraction

by Anonymousreply 6April 30, 2021 7:22 PM

The list I want to see is "101 Best Movie Happy Endings Of All Time."

by Anonymousreply 7April 30, 2021 7:25 PM

Another vote for "Kiss Me Deadly" and also "The 400 Blows".

The Lives of Others

by Anonymousreply 9May 1, 2021 2:07 AM

Loved Mother.

by Anonymousreply 10May 1, 2021 2:11 AM

OP, why post this as you've apparently never seen a movie in your life?

by Anonymousreply 11May 1, 2021 2:13 AM

Where is Sleepaway Camp? That should be number one.

by Anonymousreply 12May 1, 2021 2:13 AM

Where's Fat Girl?

by Anonymousreply 13May 1, 2021 2:17 AM

Agreed, R2, and I say that as a big fan. In fact it's my favorite Christmas film.

by Anonymousreply 14May 1, 2021 2:24 AM

So you're an idiot and proud of it, OP, we see.

by Anonymousreply 15May 1, 2021 2:28 AM

OP is philistine trash.

by Anonymousreply 16May 1, 2021 2:32 AM

I'll vouch for Portrait of A Lady on Fire having an incredibly powerful ending. It's really emotional and it's impressive because there is no dialogue-it's just an extended shot of one character's face with some significant music playing.

by Anonymousreply 17May 1, 2021 2:38 AM

Wunderbar!

by Anonymousreply 18May 1, 2021 3:14 AM

OP, either you're dumb as a box of hair, or you're just trying to be contrary. See a few of the movies you mentioned, like, say, "The Third Man," and get back to me.

by Anonymousreply 19May 1, 2021 3:54 AM

Fearless

Is Running on Empty on the list?

by Anonymousreply 21May 1, 2021 4:21 AM

Cabaret, the Fosse one

by Anonymousreply 22May 1, 2021 4:28 AM

Where is Brokeback Mountain?

by Anonymousreply 23May 1, 2021 4:38 AM

OP, that post is so funny

by Anonymousreply 24May 1, 2021 5:07 AM

OP, I'm so impressed with your erudition.

by Anonymousreply 25May 1, 2021 5:09 AM

"Now, Voyager"

by Anonymousreply 26May 1, 2021 5:48 AM

Strange list, but I'll throw one in here:

Gaspar Noe's "Irreversible" - It's told in reverse chronology, so all the rough stuff is shown at the beginning of the movie. By they end it it "ends" on a peaceful note, but you the viewer already know what's going to happen to them.

by Anonymousreply 27May 1, 2021 9:37 AM

OP, our verdict is: you're an idiot with the cultural comprehension of a preschooler.

by Anonymousreply 28May 1, 2021 12:36 PM

I love the ending of Planet of the Apes.

by Anonymousreply 29May 1, 2021 12:53 PM

Agree with mother! But how about Melancholia? Mulholland Dr.? Holy Motors?

by Anonymousreply 30May 1, 2021 1:11 PM

The end of Beau Travail puts me in mind of Music and the Mirror.

by Anonymousreply 31December 20, 2022 6:22 PM

the ending of Dr. Strangelove >>>>>> Eyes Wide Shut

by Anonymousreply 32December 20, 2022 6:26 PM

R4 is correct, Kiss Me Deadly has one of the greatest, craziest endings ever.

by Anonymousreply 33December 20, 2022 6:31 PM

My best movie endings usually involve one actor cumming on another actor's face.

by Anonymousreply 34December 20, 2022 6:32 PM

I'm too stoned already for the day so too lazy to click on OP's link. But Cinema Paradiso better be ranked right up there near the top. Makes me cry every damn time I watch it. Just perfect.
