Maybe Glenn would have won the Oscar if Meemaw kicked the crap out of his character onscreen.
Surprise! Hillbilly Elegy author JD Vance is right-wing cunt

this is the first you're hearing about this? Vance has never hid it

Did anyone not know this? I'm not being snotty or sarcastic, I thought it was common knowledge that he was a rightwing nutjob.

OP, can you elaborate on your problem with prioritizing family over work? Do you own a business or are you a manager?

They seem really clueless about the burden daycare is on many people and that it is not an optional thing that people do so they can send the kids away so they can have fun.

""Universal child care" is a massive subsidy to the lifestyle preferences of the affluent over the preferences of the middle and working class."
He's a fucking idiot. The affluent hire nannies and send the kids to private schools with extended hours if need be, it's the working and low-income middle classes that need two incomes and daycare to keep afloat.
But then, we knew he was a fucking idiot.

Vance is basically Trump with the ability to string two sentences together.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 29, 2021 3:54 PM |
Normal People? The type of people that would vote for this fool are anything but normal.

He was actually on the saner side of the GOP* before he decided he wants to be a senator and went all in Trump-style populism.
*Yes, it's a low bar, but: "I can't stomach Trump. I think that he's noxious and is leading the white working class to a very dark place," Vance told NPR's Terry Gross before Trump's win in 2016.

I wasted time reading his book. He will make a lot of money shitting on the working class.
I'm surprised he's not sucking up to Rand Paul.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 7, 2021 1:46 AM |
Yes, he heavily criticized Trump in 2016 and now is groveling before him to get Trump to endorse him.
He is garbage.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 7, 2021 1:53 AM |
no rethug can win a primary without kissing trump's ass, this guy made negative comments about trump years ago, which he is now desperately trying to erase/disown
elegiac hillbillies were always racist MAGAt morons, the whole "economic anxiety" thing was bullshit from the getgo
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 7, 2021 2:14 AM |
Don't blame me. Mamaw raised that mouthy brat.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2021 2:19 AM |
You only had to read the book to know that. I started sniffing right-wing conservative through the whole thing, though he didn’t confirm it til the end.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 7, 2021 2:32 AM |
What a whore!

As a fellow hillbilly, it took me 8 years to graduate college while working full time. I grew up with a few "I got mine; fuck everybody who didn't" types.
Would not be surprised if he dabbled with Landmark forum.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the hard-right bullshit wasn't a struggle with the closet - although that's a massing of chins he needs to eliminate.

[quote]It turns out that normal Americans care more about their families than their jobs, and want a family policy that doesn't shunt their kids into crap daycare so they can enjoy more "freedom" in the paid labor force.
A somewhat anti-capitalist sentiment if I'm reading it right at the end. Interesting. He is right, though; the "freedom" to have all these work options (ERA, "Universal Childcare", nondiscrimination laws etc) is an illusion sold to us by capitalist pigs.
We see: "Job discrimination based on sex is no longer legal. Women start entering the workforce in record numbers."
They see: "Yay now we have twice as many exploitable worker drones to wear out!" *throws Capitalism & Consumerism into hyperdrive*
We need to smash it.

Elegy was overhyped "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" pablum. It was very derogatory towards the working class.

His position during the Iraq failure was to sell US policy as part of the press corp.
He's simply switched mediums.

Problem with counting on normal people not voting for him is that the number of normal people is steadily decreasing in a stagnant state like Ohio. Radicalized evangelicals, QAnon loons and plain old Republican trash will eat his shit up. He’s a shunt alright.
