DICK CHENEY owns this thread.

Cheney suffered his first heart attack in 1978, at age 37, while he was campaigning for Congress.

It was the first of five heart attacks. He suffered subsequent heart attacks in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2010. Cheney also underwent an open heart surgery and had a pacemaker implanted.

In June 2010, he was hospitalized for conditions related to his coronary artery disease. He had a Left Ventricular Assist Device, or LVAD, implanted to help his heart pump. In July 2010, he was convinced he was going to die. He made plans for his burial with his family, and then had a heart pump placed. That heart pump stayed in his body for 20 months until he got a heart transplant at age 71.

I took the rare treat of a taxi in I think it was 1979 once when in midtown (I was a teenager) and on 45th street a man ran through the traffic just as my taxi began rolling forward. It was a little startling and the taxi driver hit the brake. The man came right up to the windshield to quickly mouth his apology. It was Gene Shalit.

The taxi driver (in those data mostly still white guys from the outer boros) said, “hey that was that Gene Shellfish guy, it was decent of him to apologize.” Even then Shalit looked old.

Gene Shalit was a very unfortunate part of TV back in the day. Every time he would appear you would wince.

Alice Hirson is 92. She was Ellen's mom on "Ellen" and Miss Ellie's friend on "Dallas", and was in many films, including "Being There" and "Revenge of the Nerds". I just watched her in a season three episode of "Family", the 1976-1980 Kristy McNichol series now on Tubi. Linda Lavin was also in a season three episode!

Is the English guy, who was one of the characters in the movie "Pride" and reportedly one of the earliest known cases of an HIV+ diagnosis in the UK (in the early-mid 80s) still alive? In the movie the character was shown as being hopeful but realistic about the possibility of an early death. I was so glad when I read later that he was still alive and well as of 2015.

by Anonymousreply 64July 18, 2021 10:46 AM

Bob Dole. He will be 98 in a few days.

by Anonymousreply 65July 18, 2021 10:49 AM

R59, Alice also played Tom Berenger's mother on "One Life to Live".

by Anonymousreply 66July 18, 2021 10:49 AM

Queen Elizabeth II! She's the only British Queen we've ever known - other than Elton John!

She's been Queen my entire life (hell, she's been queen my parents entire life). The bitch is 95 years old!

How much longer can she go on?

by Anonymousreply 67July 18, 2021 10:53 AM
