Limo Libs/Establishment Democrats ALWAYS eventually throw a bone back to their RightWing counterparts and attempt to rewrite history for them. Because when it gets down to it, they're all alike! It's the reason they've recently tried to reshape the legacies of both Dubya & Nancy Reagan in The MSM.
There is no real difference between the Democrat & Republican Parties. There's The Establishment & the rest of us. And The Establishment will always look after it's own.

[quote] She's such a stereotypical white feminist.
It's cute how you say this, like you know what you're talking about.

Never saw or wanted to see Iron Lady, but no doubt she and the script made Thatcher a shining example of womanhood.
R1 Doesn't Meryl do research in preparing for a role as she learned to play the violin for Music of the Heart? And she did after all willfully ignore Harvey's hardly secret behavior and reputation as long as he gave her good roles and Oscars. Meryl's pumped up legacy is also due for a reckoning.

"There is no real difference between the Democrat & Republican Parties. There's The Establishment & the rest of us. And The Establishment will always look after it's own."
I'm a progressive "far left" ldemocratic socialist.. But this is not true.
The voting records of democrats clearly demonstrate a very significant difference in how they treat the demographic groups in society who are marginalized, oppressed, or disadvantaged.
I have contempt for moderate, centrist democrats. I, not only, loathe democrats like Joe Manchin, but also moderates like Pete Buttigieg. But if you don't see a real difference between the democratic party and republican party, then you're willfully ignoring factual realities and documented history.

R5, I'm "far left" as well and it's ABSOLUTELY true!

They (Dems & Repubs) may use different routes & methods to reach their goals but ultimately those goals are the same....to protect The Establishment & their corporate donors.
At least with Republicans you know upfront that they're full of shit. But the Democrats are good at taking on all the progressive jargon/talking points of Leftists while pushing Rightwing legislation like The Affordable Care Act.
The Two Party System is like a pair of abusive parents. Dad (The Republicans) regularly beats the shit out of me and then lets me lay weeping. Mom (The Democrats) regularly beats the shit out me as well BUT takes me out for ice cream sometimes. And there's your difference.

Meryl made those nasty comments about Walt Disney simply because she was competing for the 5th slot of the best actress that year with Emma Thompson in Saving Mr. Banks. It worked Streeps got nominated for one of her worst performances and Thompson got snubbed for a film that got better reviews and did better box office.
Meryl is a nasty, self serving cunt.

[quote]her blatant corruption to enrich her cronies like her husband and her sons, and remember her only for all the hardships she endured as a woman.
Sorry but what?
Thatcher is known for a lot of things in Britain but corruption is not one of them.
How did she use her power to enrich her husband and one solitary son (not sons)?
Her son was clearly a dickhead and wrongun but how is it linked to his mother's role as Prime Minister?

And R2 reveals the true purpose of this thread: More right-wing propaganda

For more than two decades, DL has been a crucial lifeline to me as I've felt isolated and struggled with mental health, especially through the pandemic. But fuck, every single day now, there are a ton of new race-baiting, trans-critical threads, and old divisive shit like this surfacing at the top of the feed. I'm considering shutting DL off like I did Facebook and Twitter years ago. This place is turning toxic for my mental health, and as a middle-aged gay man, I find that fucking sad.

Never forgiven Meryl for her slanderous comments against Walt Disney and the way she kicked Emma Thompson out of the running in the Oscars race.

I'm sure she has a little needlepoint cushion somewhere that says, "Nevertheless, she persevered".

You didn't miss much. I expected so much better of it. Most of the film was showing Maggie at the end of her life and suffering from dementia. I suppose the luvvies felt they needed a way to counterbalance the portrayal of one of Britain's most effective Prime Ministers.
The few minutes relating to the Falklands was excellent though.

When the film was released it got a huge amount from Conservatives because of how it portrayed Thatcher, and the left wing hated the movie because it didn't portray her as an stereotypical evil bitch and she should never be played on film because she's an evil bitch. There was criticism over the portrayal of her relationship with her daughter (Olivia Colman).
[quote]The former Conservative chairman Lord Tebbit has said that “she [Lady Thatcher] was never, in my experience, the half-hysterical, over-emotional, over-acting woman portrayed by Streep”.
[quote]Charles Moore, the authorised biographer of Lady Thatcher, said: “The film is set up on an unkind premise – it’s very upsetting for Lady Thatcher’s family and people who know her well. Although if you are a normal member of an audience you’ll get a sympathetic performance.”
I can't remember much of the film but Streep was much better than Gillian Anderson in The Crown, which totally fabricated events to make her look even worse.

Must admit that I thought Streep was OK as Thatcher for some of the film. The parts depicting Thatcher's decline into Alzheimer's disease were terrible and felt exploitive. That Streep was bad in those scenes wasn't her fault.
She certainly didn't deserve an Oscar for the performance, not even a nomination.

She didn't cost Thompson a nomination, Amy Adams did. And why would voters refuse to vote for Emma just because Meryl dragged Walt Disney? It wasn't like Thompson was playing him!

Steep should have won for playing that wicked old nun in Doubt, but Weinstein and Winslet campaigned nonstop for her dreadful performance in The Reader

Fucking Meryl Streep attacked Saving Mr. Banks because Emma Thompson was her strongest competition for the Oscar that year. Meryl's a hypocritical bitch.

[quote]Never saw or wanted to see Iron Lady,
I saw it at the time, and it was the first movie with Streep where I thought: "Huh. She's actually not the great actress she is acclaimed to be". The scenes of her as the younger Thatcher where almost comical in their caricature of her. I thought she was better as the aging with dementia version, but overall, the movie wasn't that great.
Section 28 was brought in under Thatcher, and at the time the AIDS crisis was out of control. She supported apartheid, and she welcomed Pinochet to Britain, telling him: "thank you for bringing democracy to Chile". This is only some of the terrible stuff she did.
You know women who want to prove themselves so much that they act like the worst part of what they think men are? That's what she made me think of.
If you like a laugh, you should check out Sue Townsend's "The True Confessions of Margaret Hilda Roberts, aged 14 1/4". Same author as the Adrian Mole diaries.

This really should’ve been a career killer for Meryl as Mommie Dearest was for Faye. As the younger Thatcher, she gave nothing but a drag performance.
