What is Jeopardy thread 22?
by Anonymous | reply 600 | June 18, 2021 12:03 AM |
Someone killed the last thread without linking a new one.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 26, 2021 5:33 PM |
LeVar seems to be without a visible sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 26, 2021 5:48 PM |
He seems narcissistic as hell at this point. They didn't pick you for an interim slot: Get. Over. It!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 26, 2021 6:55 PM |
Nick pinged to me. Final was easy. More Kelley. Thats all.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 26, 2021 11:57 PM |
I much preferred LeVar when he showed modesty when people were campaigning for him just after Alex died. Now, he's just become another campaigner and it's really... narcissistic, I agree. I also find some of his followers really pushy.
I don't want to see/read the meltdowns when he is not chosen.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 27, 2021 1:01 AM |
He's got his guest-host spot. He should shut up now until he gets his week to audition, then people can see if he's any good.
Besides Burton, Rodgers, and Jennings, have any of the upcoming guest hosts actually said they're auditioning to be permanent?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 27, 2021 1:28 AM |
No, r6. I don't think any of them have stated a desire.
But if they do want to host, they are keeping quiet, unlike LeVar.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 27, 2021 1:32 AM |
I didn't know Jennings was interested? He'd be OK by me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 27, 2021 9:17 AM |
Well, maybe I'm jumping to conclusions that he want a permanent job, but he does want to host again.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 27, 2021 3:11 PM |
Sorry but "Good thing it wasn't a visual clue!" was hilarious!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 28, 2021 12:07 AM |
Final could not have been easier. What else could it have been but the Everglades?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 28, 2021 6:19 AM |
Anderson is worse than Katie. And she stunk up the place.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 28, 2021 7:49 AM |
The champ should have wagered more. "Mel Gibson" wasn't a bad wild guess; the laughing that followed was weird. Great game.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 29, 2021 3:31 AM |
I guess Mel Gibson was a good wild guess if one had no clue, but given De Mille made The Ten Commandments, Samson and Delilah and The Sign of Cross, it kind of ruled out everyone else.
R14 - I didn't pick up on that - really creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 29, 2021 10:09 AM |
I won’t be watching LeVar. Cannot stand him.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 29, 2021 10:30 AM |
I would have been okay with Burton had he been in the original lineup, but at this point I'll skip him as well. They've already slotted a black host, by the way, it's not that they "needed" one.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 29, 2021 1:59 PM |
I couldn’t stand Kelly. He’s an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 29, 2021 2:01 PM |
R18 Yeah, he totally had a Chester the Molester vibe....
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 29, 2021 5:29 PM |
You bitches decry wimpy betting, well... new champ doesn't have that problem! Had no idea of final, but got nuncio immediately unlike the three of them.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 30, 2021 12:00 AM |
The new champ was on Reddit the other day taking questions. Good for her. She made the game much more exciting. A good game overall.
BTW, did Leah remind anyone of Dakota Johnson?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 30, 2021 12:11 AM |
Tonight was one of the best games in a while.
New champ is personable and gutsy with her wagers, hope she sticks around.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 30, 2021 12:46 AM |
I was a bit spooked that Leah reminded me a lot of a former coworker!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 30, 2021 12:53 AM |
I thought Anderson has been doing a decent job. He's stopped putting on the ridiculous, manly deep voice and gone back to his natural, slightly higher speaking voice. He's able to engage with the contestants in a personal way that none of the other guest hosts have been able to do so far. He's not going to be the permanent host, since there's no way he's moving to LA to do it, but he's been refreshing.
Tonight's game was exciting. An edge of your seat nail biter.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 30, 2021 1:01 AM |
A homo who loved Fleabag... Quelle Surprise!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 30, 2021 1:02 AM |
I agree - Anderson was great tonight and this was a classic Jeopardy nailbiter. Three good players and one who really took a chance with their bets.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 30, 2021 2:12 AM |
I was rooting for cute, smart Colin.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 30, 2021 2:55 AM |
60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker is the next guest host.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 30, 2021 4:42 AM |
I’d rather they get a total unknown that is actually host material. I’m tired of people who are already celebrities thinking they deserve to host just because they’re a celebrity.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 30, 2021 4:50 AM |
Great game tonight! A $9,000 wager! Gutsy. And it paid off!
Had no idea about final. But all three knew queue. Good question and good players.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 30, 2021 8:29 AM |
I think they had enough time to run through the alphabet to discover "queue" if they didn't already know it. I know I did.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 30, 2021 11:36 AM |
So, no Jeopardy tonight because of the NFL Draft. 😡
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 30, 2021 11:36 PM |
I just watched it. Final was easy. Andy was a doofus.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 1, 2021 12:00 AM |
R33 Some kind of cognitive impairment going on there, no? "What is rank below Duke?" "Duke!!", says Andy.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 1, 2021 2:23 AM |
I felt bad for the male contestant. Poor guy. He kept falling behind and coming back up.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 1, 2021 2:30 AM |
R35, He really embarrassed himself.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 1, 2021 4:16 AM |
A bit low-key for my taste, but otherwise BW was okay. Damned tall contestant, but he struck me as humorless.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 4, 2021 12:40 AM |
Bill Whitaker - "The Jeopardy! Whisperer"
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 4, 2021 12:48 AM |
FJ was an easy one for me, surprised only the champ got it.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 4, 2021 12:50 AM |
I thought BW was a block of wood.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 4, 2021 11:07 AM |
He said he had only one day to rehearse and would have liked a second.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 4, 2021 4:43 PM |
Bill Whitaker is doing the same thing that Anderson Cooper did. After the contestant answers with a question, you don't know if its correct for the time it takes for the host to look down at the screen to see the answer. So you don't know if its correct or not. Just too slow. Bring back Aaron Rodgers.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 4, 2021 4:57 PM |
This guy is a dud!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 4, 2021 4:59 PM |
Alex would be cringing at some of these guest hosts.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 4, 2021 5:18 PM |
I never heard of this weeks host before now, and I expect I will never hear from him again after his stint is over
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 4, 2021 5:35 PM |
Yep, r42 I notice he does that, too. But Katie was definitely the worst for that. Sometimes you could just tell in the pause that Katie thought they got it wrong, then..."Yes!"
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 4, 2021 8:05 PM |
Latest reviews show Anderson Cooper had the lowest ratings of any host even Dr Oz. Ken Jennings has had the highest rating. After Bill Whitaker's 2 weeks then the hosts will be Jeopardy contestant Buzzy Cohen, then Mayim Bialik, Savannah Guthrie, Dr, Sanjay Gupta, and George Stephanopoulos. The final four guest hosts for the season will be Robin Roberts, Levar Burton, David Faber and Joe Buck.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 5, 2021 2:28 AM |

Yeah, the show is definitely going to Ken Jennings.
Not surprised about Blanderson. I’ve never liked him.

Aaron, go back to football practice.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 5, 2021 2:39 AM |
Totally blanked on FJ. In my mind I was following the Pacific from the Bering Strait around Asia then up Suez to the Bosphorus, which got me nowhere.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 5, 2021 3:36 AM |
It's definitely between Ken and LeVar.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 5, 2021 4:02 AM |
This latest host seems to have walked in and sucked all the energy off the stage. There's a reason game show hosts are just a bit hyper.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 5, 2021 5:13 AM |
R52 Who picked these guests hosts? Half of them suck assholes.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 5, 2021 5:16 AM |
R47, Why was comedian Dane Cook's name often mentioned as an upcoming guest host?
Not that I'm disappointed, I think he would have been awful.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 5, 2021 5:28 AM |
R47, Should I know who David Faber is?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 5, 2021 5:30 AM |
Sounds like the ratings have been steadily sinking.
I think it takes a while to get used to a host, and the constant changes are wearing thin.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 5, 2021 5:34 AM |
Would a loyal Jeopardy! viewer really not watch depending on who the guest host is?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 5, 2021 5:39 AM |
I think the constant changes are too much. Game shows are about consistency. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have benefitted from having longtime hosts.
WofF and Jeopardy air between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. where I live -- dinner time for me. It really is comfort food.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 5, 2021 5:51 AM |
The idea is that they are stalling until the permanent host is a done deal. Never heard of Joe Buck (Faber, yes). BW is gonna be a looooooong 10 days; Buzzy will be quite a change! Jennings would be fine with me.
Knew most of the answers none of the three of them could get last night. Guessed Scott for final.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 5, 2021 7:50 AM |
R58 OMG where does it air that late?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 5, 2021 7:58 AM |
OMG where does it air that late?
R60 In the majority of the country, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune air after the network news but before primetime programming -- 7-8 p.m. Eastern time, 6-7 p.m. Central time.
Website below has a breakdown of when Jeopardy airs in every market in America.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 5, 2021 8:39 AM |
R59, "Joe Buck" was the name of the character Jon Voight played in "Midnight Cowboy".
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 5, 2021 12:17 PM |
NO to Jennings and NO to Levar. I favor the EP Mike Richards.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 5, 2021 12:53 PM |
Is Ken Jennings still under contract to that other show he was doing, "The Chase"? I wonder if he's already the chosen one, that is why they're doing all guest hosts this season. Waiting for him to be fully available.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 5, 2021 1:13 PM |
Thinking with your "smaller head" cuz he's hawt, R63?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 5, 2021 1:16 PM |
To all the LeVar zealots . . .
The man is simply not game show host material.
His face, his voice, his personality . . . No!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 5, 2021 1:58 PM |
R66 Agree wholeheartedly!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 5, 2021 4:04 PM |
Elliott was cute but not a good wager.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 5, 2021 11:58 PM |
Competitive game! Didn't get final, but Toulouse, yes. BW continues his sub-low-key hosting.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 5, 2021 11:58 PM |
R68, Elliott was a fool to bet so little. He knew by FJ that Jamie was very knowledgeable and a heavy better.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 6, 2021 12:20 AM |
Final was quite easy.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 6, 2021 12:35 AM |
Aaron Rodgers had the best ratings so far ( but by far was the worst host). I was prepared to not like Anderson, but he did a pretty good job. Watching Bill Whitaker is like watching paint dry.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 6, 2021 12:36 AM |
R72, I’d put Aaron at the middle of the pack. I thought Oz was much worse and I didn’t respond well to Katie.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 6, 2021 12:41 AM |
I was ready to dislike Anderson the moment he walked out on his first show with that blinding white hair and a blinding white shirt to match. No showboats on Jeopardy, please!
But the camera stayed off him and he wore well. Unlike the current host, who seems to be deathly afraid of waking up the audience he's put to sleep.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 6, 2021 2:18 AM |
For me it's been 1) Ken, 2) Aaron and 3) Anderson.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 6, 2021 2:21 AM |
On the Daily Fail all of the Deplorables are jumping up and down at Anderson’s bad ratings and keep bitching about how he deserves bad ratings for being from CNN.😑
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 6, 2021 2:50 AM |
How strange that Anderson had the lowest ratings since I've found him the most engaging (along with Mike Richards and Ken Jennings).
I mentioned this on a previous thread, but the revolving door of hosts doesn't bother me. I just focus on the game. It's too bad the ratings are suffering though. I wonder if the people who stopped watching just don't like the show without Alex.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 6, 2021 3:56 AM |
I thought the FJ answer was from 1976 not 1977. Oops.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 6, 2021 3:59 AM |
Is Andy Cohen going to insist on hosting now that Anderson has?😂
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 6, 2021 4:02 AM |
Aaron Rodgers was the best so far. I even liked Dr. Oz.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 6, 2021 4:10 AM |
Alex Trebek’s son will be the permanent host. Next season.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 6, 2021 5:15 AM |
Aaron Rodgers sucked. Ken was the best.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 6, 2021 6:07 AM |
R81, His son is hot. So is Tony Griffin, Merv's son.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 6, 2021 6:12 AM |
My favorite guest host is still Mike.
Of the rest, Anderson is my next favorite. He seemed the most comfortable with the role of host.
Aaron grew into the role. I ended up liking him more than I expected too.
Bill Whitaker is putting me to sleep!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 6, 2021 8:56 AM |
I wouldn't mind looking at Jon Hamm for two weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 6, 2021 11:01 AM |
Wow! I thought we had the dumbest contestant ever a few weeks ago, but Kalee???? Wow!
And she looked and spoke like a two dollar hooker.
Apparently the Southern California contestant pool is getting very thin.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 6, 2021 9:25 PM |
Steve was hot. I was rooting for him
by Anonymous | reply 87 | May 6, 2021 11:20 PM |
Jamie and the Dim Bulbs should be a new sitcom.

Sitting on my filibuster enjoying an 800 degree calzone!
(got final right away)
by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 6, 2021 11:59 PM |
Steve was cute but dumb. A lawyer who didn’t know that Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.’s father was a poet and an author. 🙄 And when asked about a motion to end debate — with the same name as a PIECE OF FURNITURE — he says “filibuster.” Oh, yes, please keep your feet off of the filibuster. 🙄🙄
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 7, 2021 12:02 AM |
Oh, and I forgot about the damn 800 degree calzone.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 7, 2021 12:04 AM |
Yeah, today's show will do wonders for the ratings.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 7, 2021 12:38 AM |
I thought Steve was cute - until that howler of a calzone guess, one of the dumbest responses of all time. Even little kids watching this show with their parents probably thought, "Wow, what an idiot!"
And the kicker is Steve's last name is "Bright."
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 7, 2021 1:18 AM |
Steve lives in Norwell, Massachusetts, which is about 20 minutes away from me.
I doubt that he hosted a viewing party for friends and family tonight.
Here's an excerpt from his 2013 engagement announcement . . .
"The future groom is a graduate of Sharon High School, class of 2004, Connecticut College, class of 2008 where he was a government major. He received a J.D. from New England School of Law in 2011, and is an adjudications manager with the Boston Office of the Parking Clerk."

R96, Branding himself a "lawyer" is a stretch.

In essence, he rules over parking violations in the city of Boston.

What is Jeopardy Thread 22? I can't believe no one has noticed.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 7, 2021 1:45 PM |
That girl in the middle really made me think that for the first time in Jeopardy history - a contestant gave someone a blow job to get on the show. Keely? Kala? Whatever it was.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 7, 2021 2:38 PM |
The show airs at 6 PM in my time zone.
It is exactly during dinner time. I love it .
It doesn’t matter who the host is... for now.
It’s interesting seeing all the different hosts bringing their little touches.
Anderson was one of the best yet low ratings for him? People are so stupid. Politicizing a fucking game show?
Deplorable scum.

I suspect the ratings are just going down in general because the majority of the public don't like the revolving hosts. Falling ratings don't have as much to do with the specific guest host as they do with they fact the show is going this guest host route.
Viewers want stability. I suspect we'll hear that Bill Whitacker's rating are even lower than Anderson's were.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 7, 2021 9:28 PM |
Tonight’s show was much better than last night’s train wreck. The two challengers got a lot of correct answers, and no one said anything as stunningly stupid as an 800 degree calzone.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 8, 2021 12:12 AM |

It was James Stuart as King of Scotland that was relevant, not as King of England, so the correct answer should have been James VI, not James I.

They probably would have taken either answer, as it was the same person.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 8, 2021 5:29 AM |
Yes, I suppose the answer is technically correct as long as they have unambiguously specified the correct individual. Still, style matters to some.

by Anonymous | reply 115 | May 8, 2021 10:20 AM |
Here's the list through the summer. I guess that means they could select a new permanent host by the fall?
by Anonymous | reply 116 | May 8, 2021 10:56 AM |
Cooper's ratings were down solely because of politics. Just as people boycotted Dr. Oz's weeks because of his medical statements, they boycotted Cooper because of his political views. Personally, I think he's been the best so far.
I really don't think Whitaker is that bad, but he's got such a soft voice it detracts from his positives.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | May 8, 2021 1:06 PM |
Just what are those positives? Apart from being able to cure insomnia.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | May 8, 2021 1:09 PM |

According to the article, "[T]he executive producer and recent guest host Mike Richards has said that the heads of Sony Entertainment will soon have to make a decision. Mike shared these details during the Wall Street Journal's podcast, The Journal. He said that when the filming for Season 38 starts this summer, the next official host will be at the helm. Mike also added that the choice will be announced in late July or early August. However, Richards added that the Jeopardy! executives plan on making an informed decision since they are a 'pretty cerebral group.' He also explained that fan input will have an effect on further planning."

I dunno if I could deal with their buckling over Burton's rabid fan base - mega ugh!!!
by Anonymous | reply 121 | May 8, 2021 4:53 PM |
Yeah, the fallout from the Burton fans- if he is not chosen - will be insane.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | May 8, 2021 8:24 PM |
According to the schedule at r116's link, once we get into July, the guest hosts will only be on for a week.
George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Farber and Joe Buck are all just listed to be on for a week.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | May 8, 2021 8:33 PM |
One week is enough time for the Le Var Loonies to bully Jeopardy into picking him.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | May 8, 2021 9:00 PM |
LeVar's week is in late July. I imagine the Sony execs will have already made up their mind who the new host will be by that point, although they likely won't announce the new host until the end of July, just before taping on the new season starts.
Of the many people serving as guest hosts since January, most already have other jobs and aren't available to serve as the permanent host. Anderson Cooper is not going to give up his CNN gig to become Jeopardy host. Aaron Rogers is not going to give up quaterbacking to be host, Savanah Guthrie isn't ditching her Today gig to become Jeopardy host.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | May 8, 2021 9:12 PM |
Exactly. Burton needs the work and America loves a comeback story. None of the other candidates are that exceptional that they shouldn't go with him. Anderson Cooper already has like 4 other jobs.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | May 8, 2021 9:14 PM |
Oz, Katie and Bill are out because they were dreadful. Ken doesn't want to spend the rest of his life as a game show host. That leaves Mike, which is fine by me.

Aaron has said he'd take the job.

Buzzy Cohen is so freaking homely!!! Gross.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | May 9, 2021 8:59 AM |
Buzzy'll be fun.
Now, if like Aaron or Anderson say you were completely set money- and career-wise, why would you possibly sign up for a decade or two hosting Jeopardy?
It's no doubt fun for a couple of weeks, but long-term there's no challenge at all to the job.
It's Groundhog Day personified.

Maybe Aaron is getting tired of football? He's made enough out of it to last a few lifetimes.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | May 9, 2021 12:44 PM |
Compare Jeopardy with TPIR. The host there, whether Bob or Drew, is actively involved in the game -- the star of the show actually -- and there's a lot of variety in the game. A fun gig for the right person.
Jeopardy is the same old thing over and again, with the host pretending to be smart when everyone knows he has the answers and the side comments right there in front of him. Apart from the money, what's the attraction of the job?
by Anonymous | reply 134 | May 9, 2021 12:55 PM |
R131, I find him attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | May 9, 2021 12:57 PM |
R132 R134 So Alex had a horrible life with a boring "career"?
I think all "real jobs" have a lot of routine in it, but being on camera host of a quiz show like Jeopardy has less than most. All the glam/tedious details and variables of TV production and continually changing selection of new "customers" (contestants) and forever seeing a range of new categories - history, art, media, wordplay and languages, geography, science, music, popular culture etc. etc. National media reactions to what you and the show are doing.
More variation and stimulation than a lawyer, accountant, real estate salesperson, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | May 9, 2021 2:46 PM |
Nobody said it's a "horrible" career, simply that once you look into it there's not much there. Sure, beats most other routine jobs. But not high-flying ones.
Anderson Cooper thinks of himself as Mike Wallace. No comparison there with Alex. Ditto a lawyer like David Boies. No comparison there with Alex, either.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | May 9, 2021 2:58 PM |
Champion Austin isn't on the list, I hope.....I'm afraid to look.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | May 9, 2021 3:00 PM |
No, Art. He's never been mentioned (though I like him).
by Anonymous | reply 139 | May 10, 2021 12:29 AM |
I can't believe people are talking about Rodgers as a permanent host. Granted , he had high ratings because he is a football superstar, but he had to be the worst host (okay, Bill Whitaker is giving him a run for his money). Imagine listening to that dry monotone day after day.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | May 10, 2021 1:10 AM |
It's like the autism olympics with these hosts. Who can make eye contact the longest?
by Anonymous | reply 141 | May 10, 2021 2:31 AM |
I hate to admit it but Anderson Cooper has been the most competent and unobtrusive guest host thus far. He will not want the job so Producer Mike or Ken for the win.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | May 10, 2021 8:32 AM |
We haven't talked about it much, but the Sony people are no doubt concerned about the show's demographics -- the average viewer age is about 65 -- and will be looking for a somewhat youthful host to broaden the show's appeal. Anderson, Katie, Oz and Bill don't do that.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | May 10, 2021 8:46 AM |
I thought that FJ American history answer/question was easy tonight, but only one contestant got it completely right.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | May 11, 2021 4:08 AM |
R144 Partially right never really counts.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | May 11, 2021 4:30 AM |
R144, I thought it was obvious. Surprised the champ got it wrong, but she won anyway.
Bill Whitaker is so bland, bring on Buzzy!
by Anonymous | reply 146 | May 11, 2021 4:42 AM |
r144 Yes, it was obviously Washington and Adams. No doubt. Don't know why others were throwing Jefferson in there. He was the third president.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | May 12, 2021 1:16 AM |
I'm always amazed when the FJ is a biblical topic. I know nothing about it. Tonight, two contestants got it right. Good for them.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | May 12, 2021 1:22 AM |
New champ Jeff seems much too tough on himself when he responds incorrectly.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | May 12, 2021 5:47 PM |
I can see thinking they were notifying the winner and loser of the election as opposed to the winner and his veep. Of course, Jefferson was not the loser. Washington was unopposed.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | May 12, 2021 8:10 PM |
I like the new champ. I won’t miss Jeff’s sighs.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | May 13, 2021 2:19 AM |
Jeff gave me anxiety with all his reactions. I mean, I get it, it meant a big deal to him but it was uncomfortable to watch him sigh or roll his eyes or beat himself up.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | May 13, 2021 2:21 AM |
R151 It was very neurotic. Seeing that on the first date one would assure there is no second.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | May 13, 2021 2:22 AM |
Ha ha Jeff. Bye bye. He was annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | May 13, 2021 5:16 AM |
R152, I wouldn't want to be one of his students.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | May 13, 2021 6:19 AM |
Two more nights of BW feels like an eternity!
Hard to believe they aren't finalizing the new host contract details now for filming in a couple of months? If so, that'd be either Ken or Mike (EP), although the latter seems more a DL eye candy thing to me. I suppose Levar, with his brigade of minions... I mean followers (see also: Yang Gang), might be a factor, but as he's in so late in the season not likely that'd be a real gamble.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | May 13, 2021 7:50 AM |
Cooper was bland and colorless. By the end of this two weeks, Oz was doing a good job. Rodgers seemed to really enjoy hosting, but he would need voice lessons to break up the monotone.
Whitaker is also bland. Couric was the worst. My vote would be for producer Mike.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | May 13, 2021 11:35 AM |
Bill is starting to relax a bit and appears to be less robotic. He's not in the top 3, of course, but he seems to be more comfortable.
Yesterday's show had someone from my hometown. I always root for them, at least at first.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | May 13, 2021 12:42 PM |
Bull riding gay Matt lost by the skin of his teeth. It seems really unfair that they docked him for writing “oh the places you will go” instead of “oh the places you’ll go” for FJ. Alas I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | May 13, 2021 11:59 PM |
I had no problem with their disqualifying his answer; myself, I had no idea.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | May 14, 2021 12:19 AM |
Yeah, titles of books, movies, etc. have to be accurate.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | May 14, 2021 11:40 AM |
If Susan had taken a risk and bet zero, she'd be the new champ.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | May 14, 2021 12:36 PM |
I guessed The Lorax, and condole Susan.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | May 14, 2021 2:43 PM |
I'm glad Susan lost - she was a but full of herself.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | May 14, 2021 7:50 PM |
I had no idea on Final, but think a contraction vs. non contraction shouldn't disqualify an answer. Essentially, its a spelling mistake and spelling doesn't count in final.
But then back last fall while Alex was still host, Jeopardy said a "Barry" answer was wrong when the Final answer was Berry Gordy. I also think that answer should have been OK.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | May 14, 2021 8:30 PM |
Did he get away with giving the guy's name as "Poor's'" rather than "Poor"?
"From the Greek for 'first'" - - > "Fiber!" Okay...
At first I thought final was referencing Tel Aviv, but then decided that was a political hot potato they'd avoid.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | May 15, 2021 12:34 AM |
"Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston" made me laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | May 15, 2021 1:14 AM |
I got a chuckle out of it, too - although at least he didn't say Jennifer Lawrence.

Thank goodness low energy Bill Whitaker is gone.
Buzzy should bring more energy next week.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | May 15, 2021 10:07 AM |
Choosing Buzzy to host the TOC was a great idea.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | May 15, 2021 10:49 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 171 | May 15, 2021 1:40 PM |
Buzzy’s a fuggo.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | May 15, 2021 5:59 PM |
On this week's episode of The Conners, Laurie Metcalf's character, Jackie, goes on Jeopardy. I won't reveal how she did in the game, but there was a clip of the Jeopardy sequence that aired in the show's promos.
Aaron Rodgers was the guest host for Jackie's game. I'm surprised to say Aaron does a pretty good job with the acting portion of the episode. Didn't come across as stiff or awkward in delivering his lines.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | May 15, 2021 9:24 PM |
Ugh. This guy Ryan is as annoying as fuck. “Going for the kill.” 🙄🙄🙄
He’s like every insufferable, unlikable, know-it-all that you’ve ever met.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | May 17, 2021 11:56 PM |
R174, I totally get that. He reminds me of a politician back home who had his base, but most of the folks I knew loathed him. However... Ryan totally nails my dork/nerd fetish, so watching him was a plus for me. Felt bad seeing Jason get trounced like that; he should have done better. The lady was a nothing for me.
Had never heard of Draco before.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | May 18, 2021 12:02 AM |
Between Ryan and the lady, there sure was a lot of spectrumy hand flapping going on.

He was fantastic!
Very high-energy and fun.

by Anonymous | reply 178 | May 18, 2021 2:11 AM |
R174 My best friend's friend was one of the all time Jeopardy winners... before Ken Jennings. He was absolutely insufferable... and sadly would bring up his run on Jeopardy in casual conversation to no purpose. Know-it-allism needs to be performed with finesse, subtlety.
I never liked Buzzy. Uber-annoying. But he did a good job as moderator. (Moderator? Host? Reader?)
by Anonymous | reply 179 | May 18, 2021 2:22 AM |
I hate Ryan so much. I also dislike Buzzy. It’s going to be a long championship.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | May 18, 2021 2:46 AM |
Buzzy was new to me, but I thought he was really good. I guessed Alexander the Great, which was not so great.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | May 18, 2021 3:49 AM |
Buzzy wasn't bad for a first day. And he had to put up with Ryan.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | May 18, 2021 4:04 AM |
I thought Buzzy was way too manic and enthusiastic for the first ten minutes, but then he eased it into it and I really like him. He's already standing out and getting good feedback on social media.
Ryan was beyond irritating.
I'm shocked that Jason struggled at first but he did gain traction near the end.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | May 18, 2021 4:23 AM |
Ryan was very polarizing today, but I really enjoyed his competitive intensity. This guy is obviously in it to win it and he REALLY REALLY wants to win it. I like contestants who bring that kind of energy and enthusiasm to the TOC. It makes it more fun to watch. I hope the other contenders play with the same drive.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | May 18, 2021 5:38 AM |
Some of the Jeopardy contestants are chiming in about Ryan . . .
by Anonymous | reply 185 | May 18, 2021 10:40 AM |
I liked Buzzy as host. He did a good job.
Ryan didn't bother me. But I found myself disliking Jason just as much as I did last year when he was on his winning streak.

Ryan heard the complaints that he was a jerk. He apologized.
I’ll bet he does it again.

R191, You are a majority of one.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | May 18, 2021 9:42 PM |
He really got on my nerves, but so what? He has nothing to apologize for, and if you read what he wrote it's not really an apology.

A TOC contestant actually thought Jackie Kennedy died in 2020?
by Anonymous | reply 195 | May 18, 2021 11:36 PM |
Nabir is so cute.
Looks like Jason still has a good shot at TOC wild card since I believe his amount was higher than tonight's sinner and Nabir?
by Anonymous | reply 196 | May 19, 2021 12:02 AM |
That moron "playwright" from Kentucky guessed JACKIE KENNEDY instead of Rosalyn Carter??!! He should have been dragged off the stage right that minute!
Buzzy is one sharp dresser!
by Anonymous | reply 197 | May 19, 2021 12:14 AM |

I suppose Jackie Kennedy is a kind of desperate wild guess?

Buzzy did a good job. Can't stand Ryan.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | May 19, 2021 12:24 AM |
Buzzy does a great job as a real person, not so smooth and boring as Anderson and that 60 Minutes guy.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | May 19, 2021 12:27 AM |
Does Nabir have both gay face and gay voice?
He has gay everything, which is why he came across as so cute. But I'm surprised that for the life of me, I can't remember him being on the show before - and I normally remember most of the guys.
I was a huge fan of Buzzy when he was a contestant, so it's no surprise I'm enjoying him hosting, which he's doing with great ease. (And while I'm at it: I didn't mind Ryan yesterday. He was really into the game. Granted it was much more than a normal person, but still . . .)
The Jackie response tonight is almost as bad as the 800̊ calzone from a few weeks ago. Almost.
One of the contestants on tomorrow's show is Ryan Hemmel, who reminds me of James Franco for some reason.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | May 19, 2021 1:19 AM |
I guessed armadillo for Final because of the reference to Texas.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | May 19, 2021 10:44 AM |
LaVar is cohosting with Gayle King on ‘CBS This Morning’. I wonder if this in preparation for his guest stint on Jeopardy?
by Anonymous | reply 205 | May 19, 2021 3:06 PM |
I thought it was a very easy FJ. Panzer means tank. Animal in Texas that looks like a tank that would be unfamiliar to Germans?
by Anonymous | reply 206 | May 19, 2021 3:54 PM |
R206 Aren't you the smarty?
by Anonymous | reply 207 | May 19, 2021 4:36 PM |
I guessed wild boar. I thought there were a lot of tough questions last night.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | May 19, 2021 7:39 PM |
I guessed armadillo because it was the only Texas animal that came to mind.
That phrase "German settlers" suggested the 19th century, so I wouldn't have thought of tanks, which really didn't come along until WWI.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | May 19, 2021 8:57 PM |
Panzer originally meant “armor”
by Anonymous | reply 210 | May 19, 2021 9:31 PM |

I think Jennifer is going to win - she's extremely smart and fast on the buzzer.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | May 20, 2021 2:47 AM |
But please, Jennifer, use some of the money for dental work.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | May 20, 2021 2:58 AM |
When your outside the range of the likely wildcards and unlikely to win, why not bet it all? A wildcard is as good as a win.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | May 20, 2021 5:06 AM |
Local affiliate shut down the broadcast for a breaking news story about 10 minutes into the show. No loss as I was reminded how annoying I found Jennifer when she was on before; Phil was a nice guy, but didn't recall the other guy at all.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 20, 2021 2:07 PM |
I thought Buzzy was really annoying when he was a contestant. I'm carrying that dislike onto his role as host.

Give it a rest, R220.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | May 20, 2021 3:07 PM |
Anyone else finding this championship week the first time this year that Jeopardy feels like Jeopardy?
by Anonymous | reply 222 | May 21, 2021 2:09 AM |
Yes, R222.
Maybe it’s because it’s the tournament and things are moving faster or that the contestants are smarter than usual for having qualified for the tournament.
They keep clearing the boards.
It makes for a more exciting show, for sure.
I do love Buzzy.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | May 21, 2021 2:32 AM |
Yes, r222. Although I liked Ken, I think Buzzy is doing a fantastic job. You can tell how much he appreciates the game, the contestants, the clues.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | May 21, 2021 2:32 AM |
Buzzy has been a pleasant surprise.
I wonder why they never asked Brad to host?
by Anonymous | reply 225 | May 21, 2021 2:34 AM |
FJ crossed the line in terms of difficulty.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | May 21, 2021 2:59 AM |
I agree R226. None of them got even one of the answers correct. I was thinking the MD line was further south, so I said Lord Baltimore and Sir Walter Raleigh.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | May 21, 2021 3:23 AM |
I guessed Penn and Calvert, which I assume would have been correct—Calvert was Lord Baltimore.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | May 21, 2021 3:31 AM |
Buzzy shouldn't jump with his hands so much. It's distracting.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | May 21, 2021 3:36 AM |
I also guessed Mason and Dixon thinking it might be one of those Stupid Answers type questions.
I also think Buzzy is doing a good job.
From what I've seen of them, I don't think Brad Rutter or James Holzhauer have the personality to pull of being host, especially not James.

The British pronounce the "h" in herbs.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | May 21, 2021 12:14 PM |
For FJ, it was critical to know that the Mason-Dixon survey occurred between 1763 and 1767 — hence the category being “Colonial America” — and making George Washington irrelevant to the question.
That was fairly obscure.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | May 21, 2021 12:21 PM |

Unless Jennifer was raised abroad, this makes her look even more pretenscious.

"pretenscious"
Oh, dear!
by Anonymous | reply 234 | May 21, 2021 2:16 PM |
R234 This is the Jeopardy thread. All that matters here is that your spelling doesn't change the pronunciation.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | May 21, 2021 2:41 PM |
Wasn't the FJ "American Authors?" Why did that fellow guess Dickens? BTW, I had no idea who it was, didn't even guess.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | May 21, 2021 11:27 PM |
I guessed John Wilkes Booth as only name I could think of from roughly that era.
We all have our strengths, with history and geography being mine, so was shocked none knew Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes meant Yugoslavia.
I get that Sam is very good-looking, but was smitten with Andy.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | May 22, 2021 12:03 AM |
I was another big Andy fan.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | May 22, 2021 12:31 AM |
When I saw the date of 1809 in the answer I thought of Lincoln, who was born that same year — except I knew that his parents weren’t acting in any Shakespeare plays.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | May 22, 2021 12:34 AM |
Andy started off strong but then lost momentum. Veronica played really well tonight.
Happy that Nibir is still in the race.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | May 22, 2021 12:46 AM |
That was a nice tribute to Braydon Smith. He was Alex's last champion.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | May 22, 2021 1:17 AM |
Jennings or Richards? Those are the final two right?
by Anonymous | reply 242 | May 22, 2021 2:41 AM |
I got Poe correct. Dickens was an idiotic guess.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | May 22, 2021 2:41 AM |
Sam is cute and smart.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | May 22, 2021 3:01 AM |
R242, I think that Buzzy has to be considered. No idea if he wants the job, but he's doing very well during this tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | May 22, 2021 4:01 AM |
R212, R213: Now you're talking. I wonder what Ryan looks like naked??
by Anonymous | reply 246 | May 22, 2021 4:17 AM |
I had Poe.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | May 22, 2021 4:50 AM |
Buzzy has all the qualities I want in a Jeopardy host. He's enthusiastic, knowledgeable, encouraging to the contestants, and not bad to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | May 22, 2021 7:41 AM |
I guessed Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), but I was sure that was wrong.
I'm liking Buzzy too. Could live with him as host.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | May 22, 2021 9:21 AM |
I remember Buzzy saying on air during a championship episode that he wanted Alex’s job. They should give it to him, he’d found a great job but maybe any guest host would do well during a championship.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | May 22, 2021 11:47 AM |
I'd take Buzzy, though not a fan of his retro (hipster) attire.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | May 22, 2021 12:44 PM |
I like Buzzy just fine as a host. I can look his past his get-ups, except for those glasses!
by Anonymous | reply 252 | May 22, 2021 1:10 PM |
I think this will be a good championship week. I don't have a favorite yet!
Buzzy is doing a fine job. I guess I didn't realize Poe's parents were actors......some really difficult questions this week - and that is how it should be to find a JEOPARDY CHAMPION!!! Luck is important, but knowledge leads the way!
by Anonymous | reply 253 | May 22, 2021 1:20 PM |
Are any of the finalists gay?
by Anonymous | reply 254 | May 22, 2021 1:30 PM |
R254 Errr... ummm... If Nabir is straight, I kinda feel sorry for him. The pie-baking Oregonian pings to me as a possible lez?
Really pleased Jason will be around! Based on how well he did originally, he didn't deserve to have been cut so soon (everyone has an off night). Speaking of cutting, Jennifer can go as soon as possible.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | May 22, 2021 1:41 PM |
R255, Do you still find Jennifer "pretenscious"?
by Anonymous | reply 256 | May 22, 2021 2:33 PM |
NO to Buzzy taking over as host.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | May 22, 2021 2:49 PM |
I want to see Buzzy without glasses. Google doesn't seem to have any.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | May 22, 2021 2:57 PM |
Yes, R256, I do.
As for my mis-spelling, that's one of those words I just can't get right. I had assumed in my original post that Spellcheck would have kicked in (as it seems to often enough when I don't want a suggestion), but no, it left my error in place. I also plead guilty to being lousy at proofreading.
Though I complained about his clothes, Buzzy's specs don't bother me much (gotten used to them). Chasten's round ones are more of a "He really needs to think about a different option" thing to me.
If they go with a white male host (though lots of pressure against it), I'd bet on Ken.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | May 22, 2021 3:06 PM |
R259 Great response, MisterCocoa.

I believe Buzzy wears the ornate glasses to make his nose appear smaller.
He's been briefly shown in the past not wearing glasses and his nose is prominent and hooked.
That was a nice tribute to Braydon Smith. He was Alex's last champion.
R241 Yes, Braydon was a sweetheart and it was nice to see the tribute last night.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | May 22, 2021 3:32 PM |
I thought Buzzy and the show did a nice tribute to Brayden. I appreciate that they didn't wait until the end of the show to do it, but addressed Brayden in the middle of the show.
I think most of the buzz has been about Ken and Mike. And of course, the Twitter crowd is obsessed with LeVar.
But I think Buzzy has thrown a bit of a wrench into the race. He's gotten a lot of buzz.

They need a permanent black host.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | May 23, 2021 7:47 AM |
No, they don't.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | May 23, 2021 1:10 PM |
They haven't had a black woman as guest host yet. I thought Aisha Tyler would be a good fit for a week or two. She has host experience with Whose Line is it Anyway? and has a quick sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | May 23, 2021 1:50 PM |
#diversity They are giving Lez Robin Roberts a week but obviously that was just to check a box. She isn’t interested in the job. But yes, check the black lesbian box for your diversity stats.

I'm liking Ryan. He has a beautiful jaw and he knew the definition of a fashion 'shrug'. He's my favorite this evening.

Just hoping Sam can stand up to the buzzkill that is Jennifer! Got final though was dithering with Chop Suey for a bit.
Yes, I did know about huaraches as well.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | May 25, 2021 1:10 AM |
Was rooting for Ryan to win. He might have if he hadn't gone up on his Daily Double.
But I like Sam well enough. We'll see how he does during the Finals.

Do we know which kind of surgery led to Braydon’s death?
by Anonymous | reply 274 | May 25, 2021 12:28 PM |
R274, I hope it wasn't hernia surgery, as I'm scheduled for it and it can involve considerable risk.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | May 25, 2021 5:17 PM |
R273, Sam is naturally sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | May 25, 2021 5:18 PM |
I've had three hernia surgeries, R275. It's actually a fairly routine procedure.

Sam. Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | May 25, 2021 8:36 PM |
Buzzy is much better than Ken. Ken is too soft spoken and slow. It sounds like he always needs a glass of water. Buzzy speaks loudly and clear, and has nerdy charisma. Ken is just a nerd.
The only problem is if they give it to a jeopardy alum that isn’t Ken, it will just seem weird. Ken also gives the producers an opportunity to select a white male. They can just say “well, it is Ken. He IS the most deserving…”. Buzzy doesn’t provide that as much.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | May 25, 2021 8:54 PM |
R277, Not to hijack this thread, but were your hernias inguinal? Was mesh involved? Was recuperation uncomplicated?
by Anonymous | reply 282 | May 25, 2021 9:25 PM |
Quick hernia response, and we can move on. Thanks, guys, for bearing with us!
First two surgeries were right side, and then left side, no mesh. Third time was repair of right side with mesh. That surgeon was not a very nice guy with minimal communication, so I wasn't prepared for the amount of discoloration and swelling. That having been said everything was normal after a couple of weeks, please don't worry it really is routine.

by Anonymous | reply 287 | May 26, 2021 12:01 AM |
Good game tonight. I was really happy for tonight's winner.
Buzzy is terrific. He just gets better and better. It feels more like Jeopardy with him as host. His nerdy charisma works so well for the show.
I really hope they strongly consider him as host.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | May 26, 2021 12:02 AM |
Ryan was such a salty bitch when he lost. Such a quintessential asshat.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | May 26, 2021 12:07 AM |
R287 - I don't think he was mad (at himself maybe), but lost the will to go on at that point. Happy for them I suppose, but sorry personally to hear about the gf. He was adorbs in the sweater.
I knew Sabin, shouting very loudly at the TV! But, I'm old. Guessed Faulkner for Final.
Agreed that Buzzy's doing a terrific job.
Veronica: please rid us of that pesky Jennifer!

by Anonymous | reply 291 | May 26, 2021 12:48 AM |
Ryan was so distressed during the closing credits, the producers probably had to call someone for an intervention.
But enough about him.
Nabir is on tomorrow!
by Anonymous | reply 292 | May 26, 2021 12:52 AM |
Buzzy just needs to relax a bit, and exhibit more warmth.
He could own the show.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | May 26, 2021 1:55 AM |
Ryan had a very noticeable tear on his sweater above where his heart might be. He was pretty obnoxious, even going into praying mode before the very nice and really smart librarian's answer was shown. Ryan looked like so pale and out of it when they showed the final credits.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | May 26, 2021 2:04 AM |
I still think the football player and the hunkalishious producer have done the best hosting the show thus far. Buzzy is all right, snappy dresser. Dr. Oz the worst.

by Anonymous | reply 305 | May 26, 2021 6:10 AM |
Wow. Never have seen such a sore loser as Ryan. The fake clapping was pathetic. The praying was pathetic. The hanging his head in shame and mumbling also pathetic. Goodbye and good riddance.
Congratulations to Veronica
by Anonymous | reply 306 | May 26, 2021 10:39 AM |
OK... now I need to hunt down yesterday's closing credits, as I rarely watch them!
Depressed already thinking about Jennifer possibly winning. I know I harp on her a lot, but I've always been fond of Jason, and Nabir is a really nice guy. Jennifer vs. Veronica would be something to possibly watch with some (cheap) "champagne" and a (very small) jar of caviar. Throw in Nabir and I'd even be up for reruns!
Ken is in a league of his own, so I think Buzzy has the ability to bond with contestants as having been there himself. Honestly, Aaron was pretty good at bonding as well.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | May 26, 2021 12:22 PM |
R307, Aaron has been burning bridges within the NFL lately, appears he may have had his fill of football and would definitely be looking for a career change.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | May 26, 2021 1:34 PM |
Aaron has said he'd accept a hosting offer. Bear in mind that crew have been reported as having found him a pleasure to work with.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | May 26, 2021 2:56 PM |
Did Aaron cause a bump up in the ratings? That could work in his favor. Otherwise, I'd go with Ken or Buzzy. I liked them both.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | May 26, 2021 4:31 PM |
I like Buzzy, but he makes me think of Tony Kushner. I wasn't the biggest fan of AIA, and I left one of his other plays at halftime when they did it at Carnegie Mellon.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | May 26, 2021 5:08 PM |
I guess Mike Richards probably gets more money being producer of "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune", but I still thought he was dreamy and did a very good job as host.
He was too flaming even for me...
I thought Nabir had just about the right amount of flame.
Another thing: I generally don't like to be too salacious when I post, but we (or at least I) did get two very delightful glimpses of his Nabir's ass.
The first one was right before the commercial break, and the second one was right at the end of the show.
Anyway, I guessed Rossini for FJ only because he was the only opera composer I could think of from that period being I knew he had met Beethoven.
Finally: Up until now, Mike has been my first choice to be permanent host, but after seeing how adroitly Buzzy has been handling the job, he's become my favorite.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | May 27, 2021 1:28 AM |
We forgive your salaciousness, TomServo, for now. Be advised that it is a slippery slope from commenting on someone's ass to posting photos of prolapsed anuses, so I advise caution.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | May 27, 2021 3:05 AM |
To repeat a post I made upstairs (sic) because it is even more true as the champions tournament comes to an end: I really thought Buzzy was epically annoying when he was a contestant. Now he's my choice to be permanent host. His timing, tone, energy, focus... makes the game move smoothly and (like Alex) actually seems like he's interested in the questions and answers. Like Alex, he brandishes a pretty good French for those answers.
Rossini was so obvious for FJ... I missed it though.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | May 27, 2021 3:24 AM |
Poor Nibir had an off night, but it should be a good two-part final.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | May 27, 2021 3:51 AM |
I’m surprised that Jason missed the question about Caesar. Marble seemed so obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | May 27, 2021 3:53 AM |
Yikes! Nibir missed Coal to Newcastle?!?!
Guess he's too young to have heard that.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | May 27, 2021 9:00 AM |
Thanks, Johnny! I had meant to comment on that as being a more obvious miss than the Sabin vaccine.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | May 27, 2021 10:59 AM |
I'm something of an opera buff, but had no idea of FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | May 27, 2021 11:42 AM |
To me, Rossini was the obvious choice because of the date 1823. It had to be him, because there were no other options for a prolific enough composer who would warrant that criticism in the first quarter of the 19th century. Plus, his style did rely on some musical “tricks.”
by Anonymous | reply 337 | May 27, 2021 11:54 AM |
The winner misspelled "Rossini" with an extra "n". Doesn't that sometimes count as a wrong answer?
by Anonymous | reply 338 | May 27, 2021 2:35 PM |
No, spelling doesn't count. Unfortunately, oral delivery does as Austin once gave clearly the correct answer, but was penalized (unfairly) strictly for his New York accent.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | May 27, 2021 2:46 PM |
R339, What about that FJ response a while back that was unaccepted because "Berry Gordy" was misspelled?
by Anonymous | reply 340 | May 27, 2021 4:05 PM |
I don't think it was a misspelling as much as writing "Barry" instead.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | May 27, 2021 5:01 PM |
In FJ, misspelling is ok as long as it doesn't change the pronunciation - so Rossinni is ok but Barry is not.
by Anonymous | reply 342 | May 27, 2021 5:37 PM |
Barry and Berry are only pronounced differently if you are a hyper-vigilant linguist. To 99.44% of the world any variation between the two does not register. Regional differences in pronouncing Mary are greater.
"What is St. Mary?"
"no, sorry, you pronounced it like you were from Boston not from Baltimore."
by Anonymous | reply 343 | May 27, 2021 5:59 PM |
Barry and Berry are two different names. It’s not like John and Jon.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | May 27, 2021 6:04 PM |
My understanding is spelling only counts against the player if the misspelled word results in a different word that already exists in the English language. -- such as BERRY vs. BARRY.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | May 27, 2021 9:03 PM |
In parts of the Midwest (and I think more specifically Illinois), "Mary", "Marry" and "Merry" are pronounced almost the same. Might it be the same for "Barry" and "Berry"?
by Anonymous | reply 346 | May 27, 2021 10:24 PM |
r346 I was thinking of the MARY, MARRY, MERRY example as I wrote up my answer at r345. I suspect in such a situation, the misspelling would count against the player.
But then, there's also gospel/soul singer MERRY CLAYTON. Wonder how they would rule if someone wrote MARY CLAYTON instead.

Back to the present. I find myself smitten with Steve.
Nabir who?

Sam was really on a roll tonight. Why didn't I ever have substitute teachers who offered the class some eye candy? Buzzy is enticing too--hope they keep him.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | May 28, 2021 3:19 AM |
I can't believe I'm stanning Buzzy now... he was such a nutcase as a contestant - but he was great tonight. His moderation helped the game seem more interesting, he seemed like he was in complete and confident control. Who knew?
by Anonymous | reply 358 | May 28, 2021 3:24 AM |
Technically, R352, "Austin" *is* hosting -- that's Buzzy's real name.
I had a vague recollection that I heard or read something involving Buzzy discussing his struggles with anxiety or depression and Googled to see if I was remembering correctly. There were lots of results, but I linked to a clip on his Twitter feed from an interview he did on The View last week. The mental health conversation begins around the 7:00 mark.

by Anonymous | reply 361 | May 28, 2021 6:09 AM |
R352, Austin is not host material. Remember when he was first on and they kept having to bleep him because he was cussing and swearing when he responded incorrectly?
by Anonymous | reply 362 | May 28, 2021 6:13 AM |
The next five guest hosts are going to be miserable to watch. Who the fuck chose them?
by Anonymous | reply 363 | May 28, 2021 6:39 AM |

I'd never heard of the British folk song so had no idea about Botany Bay for Final. Although it hindsight, it makes sense.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | May 28, 2021 10:32 AM |
Congrats to Sam! Jennifer was (outwardly) gracious, but she kinda gave up "Yeah well, it's not me, so who cares!" Veronica remained a class act throughout; almost as though Buzzy were trying to will her to pull off an upset.
They didn't recognize Malaga as being in Spain? I knew post chaise from reading a lot of Victorian stuff.
I have no preconceived expectations for next week.

Good for Sam! Buzzy did a good job. He's in my top three of future hosts: Ken, Mike, Buzzy.

Sam is HOT. Is he a gay?
by Anonymous | reply 367 | May 29, 2021 1:32 AM |
I'm thinking bi, because one shirt he wore with a jacket was just ghastly.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | May 29, 2021 1:35 AM |
The only reason I knew Málaga was in Spain was due to a recipe for something Spanish I had made a while back, and one of the ingredients was Málaga wine.
I forgot Sam had only the mustache when he was on Jeopardy during the regular games - although I think he looks perfectly fine (and perfectly gay) either way.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | May 29, 2021 1:53 AM |
Buzzy was the best guest host yet. He just seemed so natural and relaxed - which people with years of media training could't even pull off (hello Bill Whitaker). Also, Sam is hot - congrats!!

Buzzy is wonderful. Make him the host.
by Anonymous | reply 374 | May 29, 2021 2:57 AM |

Jennifer blew it when she didn't do a true daily double in Double Jeopardy. She only wagered a few thousand. It was almost impossible for her to win after that.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | May 29, 2021 5:38 AM |
I wonder if Sam will continue teaching...
by Anonymous | reply 379 | May 29, 2021 5:39 AM |
I think Jennifer already knew she couldn’t win, so she was going for second—$50,000.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | May 29, 2021 5:43 AM |
Jennifer got $100,000.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | May 29, 2021 5:46 AM |
Yeah, I agree R378. Jennifer's wagers in both final matches were maddeningly conservative. If she had been less risk-adverse, she might have won the whole thing.
Those were fun boards tonight. I ran the entire Joan category; got Burt Reynolds, Ed Wood, Ta-Nehisi Coates and The Ivory Coast/Cote D'Ivoire Daily Double that Sam also got. I knew Malaga was in southern Spain 'cause I visited there in the early 2000s and took a ferry from Malaga to Morocco.
I'm super happy for Sam. That was a very well-deserved win as he was the best player in the entire tournament imho. All 15 of them were pretty great though and fun to watch.
Sorry boys. I read in an article that Sam has a girlfriend so I don't think he's gay :-(
On a side note, I'm probably the only one here who's looking forward to Mayim Bialik next week, LOL. I'm bummed the tourney is over though .....

Fantastic question for Final. I was thinking the answer was somewhere in the Yugoslavia area and guessed Albainia even though I knew it was wrong since it also borders Greece.
Congrats to Sam. A very sweet and sincere reaction from him when he realized he won. Veronica and Jennifer both seemed genuinely happy for him, something Ryan should make note of if he ever appears on another game show.
Sad the Tournament is over. It was great two weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | May 29, 2021 11:07 AM |
I'm intererested in next week also, R382. Don't get all the dislike of MB? She has a PhD from UCLA, so obviously not a vacuous idiot.
Sam not-pinged for me; every time I thought about it, I came up with "Nah" instead. He's good looking, and I find staches a plus usually, but he had some sort of off-limits vibe. Jason, I could see more easily.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | May 29, 2021 11:25 AM |
Agree that the generosity of the two losers was very nice. Although, it helped that they came away with sweet consolation prizes.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | May 29, 2021 11:48 AM |
In case you haven't seen it, here a chat with the finalists . . .
by Anonymous | reply 387 | May 29, 2021 1:30 PM |
Sam may have a girlfriend but he's too emotional to be straight. I bet the right man could bed him.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | May 29, 2021 2:55 PM |
What great answers/questions! Those questions made the win well deserved for Sam.
Yes Buzzy is great.
I'm sorry I can't look forward to MB next week, I probably won't watch. This stunt cast hosting is growing tired and seems like EVERYONE is getting a turn. Who's next a Kardashian or GAYle King?
by Anonymous | reply 389 | May 29, 2021 3:19 PM |
I could watch most of thrm, although Burton would be tough given his fanbase + self-promotion.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | May 29, 2021 3:23 PM |
So happy that the TOC is over. I prefer games where they start at the top of the column and work their way down instead of hunting for the DD.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | May 29, 2021 3:40 PM |
Who started the whole trend of cycling through the high-value clues in each category and leaving the low-value clues until the end?
by Anonymous | reply 392 | May 29, 2021 4:33 PM |
R392 James Holzhauer wasn't the first, but in my memory he was the one who used the strategy every time... his knowledge was so broad his goal was to find the Daily Double, not to answer in a category he knew.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | May 29, 2021 4:40 PM |
R391 - my mom hates players who do that as well to get at the Daily Double faster. Alex had to remind them that it's a better idea to start at the top to get a feel for the category often.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | May 29, 2021 4:56 PM |
Plus it's nicer for us playing at home to get acclimated to the theme of the category. Hunting the DD is just greedy, which I guess is an OK strategy from championship games, but in regular games it's just vulgar.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | May 29, 2021 5:01 PM |
It's not just hunting the DD, it's trying to accumulate more $$$ with the bottom board questions so you have more to wager when the DD comes up.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | May 29, 2021 5:28 PM |
R396 And Holzhauer was the master of that....I bet his average DD wager was $5k or more.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | May 29, 2021 5:52 PM |
Buzzy not so popular. It’s Ken and Aaron on top.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | May 29, 2021 7:38 PM |
By the way, graduated from a top university, and I have never heard of the Fibonacci Sequence. Good for Sam.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | May 29, 2021 8:53 PM |
I knew that one, R399, and I'm a graduate of state colleges; but, there's lots I don't know. My dad was a Harvard grad, but so science-phobic he literally didn't understand how atoms "worked"!
by Anonymous | reply 400 | May 29, 2021 8:59 PM |
I didn't get the Fibonacci sequence either. I think the only clue I got in the math category was the infinity symbol which was a $200 clue.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | May 29, 2021 10:24 PM |
Prior to James H., the occasional contestant would jump all over the board searching for the Daily Double. But most went straight down the category.
But once James made so much money with that jumping around strategy, many more started following it.
I much prefer going straight down the category from lowest to highest dollar amount if only because it allows me to more easily follow the category as a viewer. When they jump all over, it's harder for me to keep up with the subject we're dealing with.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | May 29, 2021 11:22 PM |
I wonder how Ryan would've reacted if he won? Luckily, he informed all the viewers that he had a girlfriend and was off the market, for all those women who were throwing themselves at him.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | May 29, 2021 11:58 PM |
Ha! Right, because he is a catch…
by Anonymous | reply 404 | May 30, 2021 12:03 AM |
Ryan did post a nice tweet re cute winner Sam.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | May 30, 2021 12:11 AM |
Matt Jackson, who preceded James, did a lot of jumping around the board too, to search for Daily Doubles and monopolize the big money.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | May 30, 2021 1:08 AM |
Ryan seems like a guy who lives on 4chan and brags about his Canadian girlfriend. His pallid skin tone suggests that he has never once been outside, and probably spends plenty of time on porn sites that degrade women. Five inches on a good day, maximum.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | May 30, 2021 2:11 AM |
Remember Arthur Chu, who caused an uproar with his unorthodox style of playing seven years ago?
by Anonymous | reply 409 | May 30, 2021 4:00 AM |
Anyone know the name of the song playing at the 10:27 mark in this video? It's from the Facts of Life episode called Who am I? where Tootie enters a dance contest with a white boy. It aired in December of 1980, and I can't find anywhere that credits the song.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | May 30, 2021 4:05 AM |
Oops! Meant that for the disco thread, but lots of smarties here, so if you know it...
by Anonymous | reply 411 | May 30, 2021 4:14 AM |
I thought it was Arthur Chu who introduced the strategy of jumping around, but he was apparently just the one most hated for it. When I did a search for his first name (couldn't remember it), his Wikipedia entry mentioned this:
When the shows aired, Chu attracted criticism from many for jumping from category to category rather than selecting clues in sequential order, a strategy known as the "Forrest Bounce", after former champion Chuck Forrest.
Chuck Forrest was Jeopardy! champ in the mid-1980s.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | May 30, 2021 4:32 AM |
I've become a Jeopardy! watcher more recently so Arthur Chu's run was before my time. I've heard of him and knew he wasn't well-liked by some but never understood why. Was it just because of the "forrest bounce" playing style? He didn't get invited to the All-Star Tournament back in 2019 which seems a glaring omission. But then again, he could have declined the invite.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | May 30, 2021 5:02 AM |
R413, he played very aggressively as I recall, which read as rude ("He interrupted Alex!"), but even Alex acknowledged his successful strategy of making it a numbers game (he won almost $300,000 in regular play and then another $100,000 as TOC runner-up).
by Anonymous | reply 414 | May 30, 2021 5:37 AM |
R409, Apparently, R412, R413 and R414 are unable to view youe post.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | May 30, 2021 10:49 AM |
Ugh! No! I cannot forget Matt Jackson, much as I would like to, but I had successfully blocked Arthur Chu from my memory until now. He came across as what a friend what call "an obno character" for sure!
by Anonymous | reply 416 | May 30, 2021 12:01 PM |
I never thought that jumping all over the board had anything to do with looking for the Daily Double. I thought the contestants were just trying to amass the highest amount of money so if they stumbled on the Doubles, they had a cache of cash to bet. I don't get how simply bouncing around the board raises the chance of finding the Doubles.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | May 30, 2021 2:03 PM |
The doubles are rarely in the top two rows. In this case, the vying champs were trying to accumulate money for when they hit the double.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | May 30, 2021 2:10 PM |
I liked Matt Jackson - yes, he was a little aspie but he was a great player; he won $413K in 13 appearances and is 5th on the all time highest earnings list. And let's not forget his mother is Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is hot on Trump's trail.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | May 30, 2021 5:40 PM |

Competitive game today. I'm such a dum-dum. For the first woman to serve as First Lady and mother of a president, I answered Barbara Bush - totally forgetting about Abigail Adams. Ugh.
I could not come up with FJ to save my life. Then when Bravo was revealed, it seemed super obvious.
My girl Mayim was fantastic as I knew she would be.

FJ seemed so obvious. What else could it have been?
by Anonymous | reply 428 | June 1, 2021 7:34 AM |
Mayin was quite good, quite assured especially for her very first show.
Final was super easy. What else could it have been but Bravo, although I didn't realize it was started in 1980.
by Anonymous | reply 429 | June 1, 2021 9:05 AM |
I was thinking that if they decided they just couldn't go with a white male, she'd be a decent female replacement.
by Anonymous | reply 430 | June 1, 2021 12:27 PM |
I liked Mayim as a host. She's very confident and reassuring. I didn't realize that her education pedigree just about matched her character on "Big Bang Theory." She's much prettier in person, too.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | June 1, 2021 6:54 PM |
I think that Mayim is a very credible host.
Tonight’s contestants missed a lot of easy questions. They never heard of Inherit the Wind? Or that Linus was reading from the Gospel of Luke in A Charlie Brown Christmas?
by Anonymous | reply 432 | June 1, 2021 11:56 PM |
Was Dominic hot as f*uck? Why, yes... yes he was!
I'll add "fine as frog's hair" to one they missed that I got, as well as knowing Iquitos is on the Amazon. Final was easy.

Dominic was very cute though.
I also thought Mayim did a great job. She and Buzzy have really raised the bar.

Guessed Petain for final.
Are we supposed to know about The Man from Snowy River, cause I'd barely heard of it?
Where to begin with the stuff they missed... Letter E and Nepal a big clue, no? Hovercraft, peer, Marquis of Queensberry, Hadassah, Gandhi, Gibraltar, and sigma.
Mayim's a natural at this...

R462, Very popular novel by Jerzy Kosinski that would have been required reading for an English major, which was made into an excellent film in 1979, earning Peter Sellers a posthumous Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
Seller's character, Chauncey Gardiner, has become a popular culture figure.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | June 4, 2021 5:09 AM |
Julia's "aww shucks, I got it right?" were annoying at first, but they I eventually found them endearing as she was being genuine.
Lots of missed questions tonight. Was especially surprised about the two daily doubles in the second round. John didn't know Gandhi was assassinated in 1948?! Julia didn't know Room With A View when the clue included mention of the River Arno?!
But then, I had no clue about Final and everyone got it.
Mister Cocoa -- Being There was a droll 1979 movie starring Peter Sellers and Shirley MacLaine, based on a 1970 book.

Give the job to Mayim.
by Anonymous | reply 467 | June 4, 2021 8:27 AM |
Thanks for the clarification; I guess Being There just somehow never made it onto my radar. I had Gandhi on my list of "misses" but couldn't read my writing! Room with a View was one where I knew what they looking for, but blanked on the name.
I'm with R467! Hope you guys noticed her comment of "That one I knew!" when they flubbed Hadassah?
by Anonymous | reply 468 | June 4, 2021 11:22 AM |
Being There was certainly a book well respected in the Academy in the 70s (along with Kosinski's Painted Bird) but then in the early 80s there was some credible reports that Kosinski had simply copied texts from obscure Polish authors into English and claimed it as his own, and that charge of plagiarism certainly diminished his standing. I'm not sure many current "English majors" would be expected to know it or him. More from the film.
R467 Agreed. She's the best so far without question. She seems so comfortable, friendly, but still has a certain "dignity" that Alex had too.
by Anonymous | reply 469 | June 4, 2021 3:05 PM |
To cite a reference that only the eldest of elder gays will know, Mayim reminds me of Miss Frances, who hosted "Ding Dong School", a forerunner of Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo.

R469, The iconic character Chauncey Gardiner is often cited in modern popular culture.
In recent times, both Obama and Trump have been compared to him in describing their ascents to the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 471 | June 4, 2021 3:46 PM |
He made a dramatic exit . . .
Toward the end of his life, Kosiński suffered from multiple illnesses and was under attack from journalists who accused him of plagiarism. By his late 50s, he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat as well as severe physical and nervous exhaustion.
He died by suicide on May 3, 1991 by ingesting a lethal amount of alcohol and drugs and wrapping a plastic bag around his head, suffocating to death. His suicide note read: "I am going to put myself to sleep now for a bit longer than usual. Call it Eternity."

From the New York Post . . .
Jeopardy!” winner Julia Markham Cameron won both the battle and the war.
After scoring big on the game show on Thursday night, she also won over social media for her expressive appearance.
The Brooklyn-based attorney took home $16,450 for her debut “Jeopardy!” contest, guest hosted by “Big Bang Theory” actress Mayim Bialik.
But it wasn’t her wealth of knowledge that had fans of the typically restrained game show so fascinated with Cameron.
“I am LIVING for Julia’s facial expressions on Jeopardy! tonight,” said one fan, whose reaction was shared by many.
Dubbed #JeopardyJulia during last night’s show, people couldn’t help but marvel at Cameron’s quirky countenance. Whether pondering a question with an exaggerated quizzical expression, or stumbling into the wrong answer with a grumble, she never stopped serving hilarious looks.
by Anonymous | reply 474 | June 4, 2021 4:53 PM |
Normally, that would've been a half hour of continuous eye-rolling from me; but, she wasn't mugging for the cameras - she's just a VERY expressive person!

She’s a narcissistic twat.
by Anonymous | reply 476 | June 4, 2021 5:48 PM |
I've never before wished a player would lose but I'm hoping Julia is outta here tonight. She may be smart but she thinks she's 'cute' and belongs on Wheel of Fortune not Jeopardy. I can't believe people buy her performance as authentic. Some of you may know if she has won or lost today (Friday) but I have to wait two hours to find out.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | June 4, 2021 9:41 PM |
R477, The naivete of Mister Cocoa is unbelievable. Julia knew exactly what she was doing, attempting to go viral on social media with her "performance", which is what it was.
Her attire was just as "look at me". That skintight top with the deep front cutaway screamed narcissism.
I hope she goes down in flames tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 478 | June 4, 2021 9:52 PM |
Perhaps, but I'm just fine with her losing as soon as possible. Whether genuine or not, she is rather tiring to watch.

r482 In LA, when KABC preempts Jeopardy at 7 p.m. for a news event, they typically do one of two things:
1. They air the preempted episode the next day at 7 p.m., and the rest of the week's episodes are a day behind -- Monday's episode airs on Tuesday, Tuesday's episode airs on Wednesday, etc. They finish off the week by airing the Friday episode on Saturday at 7 p.m. (when the station normally runs a repeat Jeopardy episode from a year ago). This is how they handle a PLANNED preemption like an election debate.
2. They air the preempted episode later that night at 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. This is how they handle an UNEXPECTED preemption like news coverage of a huge fire or some type of disaster.
Perhaps your New York station is following one of those two plans. Check on Saturday night and see if Friday's episode airs then.

r470, thanks for the g;impse of Ding Dong School and Miss Frances!! Such a strong memory from childhood. And I remember her including a segment where she asked the kids to leave so she could talk to the parents. Pretty sure my Mom never took her up on the offer.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | June 5, 2021 12:45 PM |
R493
My mom hates that WBZ has a "What's going on with the Patriots?" show instead of Jeopardy weekly (Thursdays?)
by Anonymous | reply 495 | June 5, 2021 12:56 PM |
I've been avoiding this thread because the NY metro area has been showing the last 3 episodes a day later because of the mayoral debate I referenced above. So yesterday's show was on tonight.
I have to admit I found Julia really irritating at first, but she kinda grew on me.
I really think her quirkiness is for real.
The fact is, some people are just plain odd and I don't have a problem with that - providing they're not WAY over-the top (like Austin).
Plus she's harmless.
One last thing: Mayim needs to be made lifetime host of Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | June 6, 2021 1:18 AM |
Only 3 minutes into the game and I'm loving Verlinda.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | June 7, 2021 11:02 PM |
These three contestants are so quick and smart, they cleared the Double Jeopardy board in a little over 20 minutes. I've seen this happen only a few times before.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | June 7, 2021 11:26 PM |
Nice, mellow vibe with Mayim as host. I got the last clue correctly of course!
by Anonymous | reply 499 | June 7, 2021 11:30 PM |
Me, too! Finally, I got a Final Jeopardy - last week was a disaster for me.
by Anonymous | reply 500 | June 7, 2021 11:33 PM |
I love Verlinda too.
by Anonymous | reply 501 | June 7, 2021 11:57 PM |
Easy FJ — though Julia didn’t think so. Go Verlinda!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 502 | June 7, 2021 11:58 PM |
I was hoping someone would answer CZJ.
by Anonymous | reply 503 | June 7, 2021 11:59 PM |
Brava Verlinda!
So glad to see obnoxious Julia gone.
FJ was way too easy.
by Anonymous | reply 504 | June 7, 2021 11:59 PM |
the male contestant missed the last clue too
by Anonymous | reply 505 | June 8, 2021 12:01 AM |
I had no idea of the "easy" final question.
What the hell was Mayim wearing? I thought maybe a preppy sweater around her waist, but seems not?
by Anonymous | reply 506 | June 8, 2021 12:05 AM |
Omg, FJ was super easy!
What the hell was Bialik wearing today???
by Anonymous | reply 507 | June 8, 2021 12:40 AM |
Mayim's first concert was Violent Femmes? She needs to be permanent host.
Is Verlinda lesbian, or is she just nice?
by Anonymous | reply 508 | June 8, 2021 2:35 AM |
Oh yeah, it was bizzare that Julia blanked on the band name!
by Anonymous | reply 509 | June 8, 2021 2:42 AM |
R509 Like maybe the story wasn't true?
by Anonymous | reply 510 | June 8, 2021 3:03 AM |
The questions have been easier since the Tournament of Champions ended, thank God.
I don't think it was Mayim's first concert, just one with a mosh pit incident.
Olivia would be pleased by Derek's incorrect guess.
Mayim is a good host, but her clothes are bad.
by Anonymous | reply 511 | June 8, 2021 3:11 AM |
LOVE VERLINDA!!!
Final was super easy for me although both Jessica Tandy and Olivia de Haviland were good guesses.
I did a double take at Mayim’s outfit too. Seemed to be a sweater wrapped around her waist.
by Anonymous | reply 512 | June 8, 2021 3:20 AM |
I thought sweater as well, but if so it was an awfully thin one, struck me as more a failed attempt at an apron? She needs to ghost whoever is giving her fashion advice. Last last week I mentioned to my mother how popular she seems: "Yeah, but her clothes!"
by Anonymous | reply 513 | June 8, 2021 9:26 AM |
Perhaps the sweater belongs to her 15 year old son, Miles, who she credited in the opening for urging her to guest host Jeopardy!.
by Anonymous | reply 514 | June 8, 2021 11:01 AM |
It looked like an apron but on backwards.
by Anonymous | reply 515 | June 8, 2021 3:33 PM |
Is wearing clothes backwards a thing now? Trump's pants, Mayim's apron...
by Anonymous | reply 516 | June 8, 2021 5:18 PM |
Verlinda was really off her game, but came through nicely with FJ. Tim is quite cute and has a great voice--looking forward to seeing him again. Mayim's outfit was a desperate cry for help--is a better stylist not available? I wonder why she considers herself a "late bloomer" when she had a sizable role in a Hollywood movie AND "The Facts of Life" on her resume by the time she was 12...
by Anonymous | reply 518 | June 9, 2021 3:18 AM |
Verlinda was much too conservative with her DD wagers.
Years ago, weren't the two losing players allowed to keep the money they earned?
by Anonymous | reply 519 | June 9, 2021 3:29 AM |
I guessed Elizabeth Taylor for Final Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | June 9, 2021 4:00 AM |
Verlinda chose to wager less than the face value of the clue she selected. You don’t do that.
Everyone seems to be willing to overlook that she works in HR because she’s quirky.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | June 9, 2021 4:08 AM |
As an HR veteran she was bound to get "coffee break".
by Anonymous | reply 522 | June 9, 2021 4:35 AM |
“I was a late-bloomer too,” said the totally relatable Jeopardy guest host who was starring in her own sitcom at the age of 14.
by Anonymous | reply 523 | June 9, 2021 7:43 AM |
Yikes!! Mayim's outfit.
I'm surprised Mike Richards let her go on stage wearing that. Did not look good on camera! But it looked slightly less bad when she was standing behind the podium.
Its a shame Verlinda was off her game. Maybe it was being so close to Mayim's outfit?
Had no idea about final.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | June 9, 2021 9:31 AM |
Her outfit screamed 1930s schoolmarm to me; jacket and top clashed badly. Is there such a thing as sartorial dyslexia? Three more outfits to go!
I kinda got what she meant by late-bloomer, if she feels the child actress wasn't the "real" her, but the science nerd is.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | June 9, 2021 9:46 AM |
Her hair looked less messy. I didn't see any long shots of her so I don't know what the whole outfit looked like, but she looked fine behind the podium.
by Anonymous | reply 526 | June 9, 2021 2:21 PM |
The key to FJ was remembering the category—“food and drink phrases”, not “food phrases”. That made it easy.
by Anonymous | reply 527 | June 9, 2021 2:36 PM |
R527 That's exactly why I didn't get FJ -- I didn't relate the category to the clue.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | June 9, 2021 3:48 PM |
I guessed "cafeteria plan" but that's not been around since the 40s and certainly wouldn't be in a union contract.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | June 9, 2021 7:41 PM |
Very glad to see Mayim in the top three. In my estimation, she should be number one or number two. But definitely ahead of Aaron Rogers.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | June 9, 2021 9:36 PM |
Can not stand the guy in the middle. Way too animated.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | June 10, 2021 12:07 AM |
Otis Redding! Easy FJ
Mara kicked ass. Too bad for the Latino.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | June 10, 2021 12:27 AM |
I am loving Mayim! It’s like watching with a friend listening to her giggle sometimes at the answers. A personality to rival the beloved Alex. Powers that be, PLEASE make her permanent host!
by Anonymous | reply 533 | June 10, 2021 12:36 AM |
How could the woman in the middle not come up with the name of a Proust novel? It’s not like there were lots of possibilities.
by Anonymous | reply 534 | June 10, 2021 1:04 AM |
Mayim has a career as an actor, she may not be interested in a permanent gig. Too bad, she is excellent as host.
by Anonymous | reply 535 | June 10, 2021 1:13 AM |
No one could identify Tony Randall?
by Anonymous | reply 536 | June 10, 2021 2:11 AM |
Final was incredibly easy. I knew the answer even before they finished reading the question. Surprised two of the contestants got it wrong.
Also surprised no one knew Tony Randall played Felix Unger. Must be too young to know The Odd Couple.
Mayim should avoid wearing plaid on air.
by Anonymous | reply 537 | June 10, 2021 9:40 AM |
Except Remembrance of Things Past is the title of a series of novels; it's also AKA In Search of Lost Time in a different translation. The individual titles—Swann's Way, In a Budding Grove, etc.—might have flashed through her mind, as it did mine.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | June 10, 2021 11:53 AM |
I was shocked that no one recognized Tony Randall...God, I'm old. Also, sorry to see handsome Tim couldn't hold on for another day.
by Anonymous | reply 539 | June 10, 2021 1:38 PM |
Tim suited up a dream, and we never learned what is a "story telling coach"?
Mayim has Alex's timing of when to interject herself into the flow with asides. I recall Aaron wasn't bad at that either.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | June 10, 2021 1:41 PM |
Mayim should avoid wearing plaid on air.
Yes, true — but it was at least better than the brown sweater-apron.
by Anonymous | reply 541 | June 10, 2021 5:42 PM |
Great finish tonight.
I totally blanked on FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | June 10, 2021 11:59 PM |
Okay, it's official... that quip of "Maybe YOU should be the Easter Bunny!" was dead brilliant! Hire her already! Her attire wasn't bad, though as my mom said, she needs to get her skirt lengths better.
Lengthy list of ones I knew that they didn't: malachite, Heinlein, Becky Sharp, Helsinki, moorish, Oral Roberts, Walter Reed, Garanimals, adzuki. Admitting, however, that I blanked on Final, too.
Glad the pinging little Desi made it.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | June 11, 2021 12:04 AM |
The final should have been so obvious. I had nothing.
Make the permanent host. No one else is even close to her so far.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | June 11, 2021 2:29 AM |
Same & same r544
by Anonymous | reply 545 | June 11, 2021 3:20 AM |
FJ was supremely hard.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | June 11, 2021 3:45 AM |
I knew it was Kennedy. That’s how Trump got him to resign—by promising his favorite clerk would get his seat. But I blanked on Kavanaugh’s name. Don’t you hate when that happens?
by Anonymous | reply 547 | June 11, 2021 4:46 AM |
Lot of tough questions tonight.
I also blanked on Final, although I knew it was one of the justices that Trump appointed.
Still loving Mayim. They just need to expand her wardrobe beyond the school marm style that she seems to favor.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | June 11, 2021 9:42 AM |
My guess is that all the guest hosts are wearing their own clothes. Whoever gets the host job permanently gets the wardrobe makeover. Mayim is wearing her school marm clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | June 11, 2021 1:59 PM |
The pink outfit wasn't bad at all! Oh, please, hire her!
The ones I knew they didn't: Great Dane, adroit, and Ferdinand the Bull.
New champ seems stereotypically gay, but okay...
by Anonymous | reply 550 | June 12, 2021 1:03 AM |
Mayim considers herself a Modern Orthodox Jew. So her clothes will be modest and cover her to the neck.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | June 12, 2021 1:12 AM |
That outfit looked like a bathrobe. I was expecting to see fuzzy slippers on her feet. And yet oddly, her distinctive outfits are yet another reason she [bold]has[/bold] to be made the lifetime host.
Tonight contestants were probably the three nerdiest contestants they've had in a while. (That's not a complaint; it's just an observation.)
I found FJ easy because I knew the word for key in Italian was [italic]chiave[/italic], so it was a snap to go from there to enclave.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | June 12, 2021 1:53 AM |
Not impressive play Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | June 12, 2021 3:37 AM |
Who is the next host?
by Anonymous | reply 554 | June 12, 2021 9:21 AM |
Did we have an all-gay panel of contestants on Friday's show?
Yes, Mayim's outfit looked like a bathrobe! While an improvement over her school marm look, the way the sash tied made it look like a bathrobe. And yes, fuzzy slippers would have completed the look!
I was blank on final.
However, I did know both Daily Double questions that were missed -- Lost Horizon and adroit.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | June 12, 2021 9:30 AM |
Indeed, R551, she wrote an Op-Ed in the NYT re: Me Too, saying that dressing modestly is why she wasn’t raped in Hollywood, or something. Really came off like victim-blaming, which should be no surprise considering her support of Israel’s apartheid state.
My rankings of the guest hosts so far, from best to worst:
Ken Jennings Anderson Cooper Bill Whitaker Mike Richards Buzzy Cohen Mayim Bialik Aaron Rodgers Katie Couric Dr. Oz
by Anonymous | reply 556 | June 12, 2021 10:23 AM |
R554, Savannah Guthrie
by Anonymous | reply 557 | June 12, 2021 11:02 AM |
I'm familiar with ultra-orthodox clothing, and Mayim's skirts would be way too short.
Technically, Vatican City is an enclave of Italy, not Rome. Yes, I'm nerdy enough to have read a book on the enclaves and exclaves of Europe.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | June 12, 2021 1:07 PM |
I should have read that book, because I guessed protectorate. Katie reminds me of Pee-wee Herman, and I mean that as a compliment. Mayim's bright pink really popped against the blue set--the color looked good on her. She was a fun host.
by Anonymous | reply 559 | June 12, 2021 3:23 PM |
R558 Like San Marino. Yeah, enclave was fairly easy. Le clé. Keys on the flag.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | June 12, 2021 3:58 PM |
I guessed landlocked, ha ha
by Anonymous | reply 561 | June 12, 2021 7:35 PM |
R523 she was a late bloomer, and then she was a Blossom!
by Anonymous | reply 562 | June 14, 2021 1:49 PM |
Modern orthodox women just have to keep the knees covered. Mayim is doing that. She is kosher.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | June 14, 2021 2:35 PM |
Mayim should talk to the ladies that run this orthodox fashion house.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | June 14, 2021 2:37 PM |
I went to college in an ultra-orthodox area, recalling that the women generally tended to wear skirts down to their ankles, with "showing leg" seemingly frowned on.
I knew absolutely nothing about her until she showed up for her first Jeopardy appearance, other than that she had done some acting work as a child. I'd assumed that she was raised ethnically Jewish, but would be more secular as an adult.
I didn't dislike Dr. Oz as others did, but found him too exhausting for consideration as a permanent replacement. So far, the one I would dread the most would be boring Bill Whitaker. Guthrie I'm assuming will be "meh" so interest will center on each night's contestant line-up.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | June 14, 2021 3:21 PM |
Lengthy list of ones I knew that they didn't:
malachite no
Heinlein yes
Becky Sharp yes
Helsinki no
moorish no
Oral Roberts yes
Walter Reed yes
Garanimals yes
adzuki nope.
Admitting, however, that I blanked on Final, too. Me too!
by Anonymous | reply 566 | June 14, 2021 5:56 PM |
I cannot stand this host(ess). I have no idea who she is - a blonde I don't recognize. I changed channels when she said "You Get It!" for the sixth time. Fuck her. I'll check back in next week.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | June 14, 2021 11:21 PM |
Savanna Guthrie (NBC Today Show) will still be there next week as well.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | June 14, 2021 11:36 PM |
Wait. Katie is married to a man??? She’s not a lesbian??
by Anonymous | reply 569 | June 14, 2021 11:38 PM |
Yes, R569 - hard to believe. She is a strange character but I am glad she won.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | June 15, 2021 12:03 AM |
I was taken aback, too, R569. I find her a bit grating, though she seems a nice person. Reminds me of Temple Grandin.
I had low expectations for the host, which I admit she managed to meet, so we'll muddle through for the next two weeks on that score.
Blanked on Final, but these were the ones I knew that they didn't: vodka, Beau Brummel, Plymouth Rock, Rashomon, Omar Khayam, the Walrus, and Dag Hammerskjold. I wouldn't bother to mention two or three, but tonight was several.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | June 15, 2021 12:05 AM |
Savanna was annoying when she kept repeating— in that enthusiastic voice she has — “you got it.” But otherwise adequate.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | June 15, 2021 12:22 AM |
I still insist laissez-faire was a better answer to that prompt than Monroe Doctrine!
Guthrie did better than I expected.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | June 15, 2021 2:30 AM |
That’s what I thought as well, R573.
A policy of non-interference by the government.
Savanna was fine. Upbeat and chirpy.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | June 15, 2021 2:39 AM |
This is a boring host, low energy.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | June 15, 2021 2:45 AM |
I was surprised Katie is married to a as well.
I also thought she looked rather Amish tonight.
Some of you might laugh, but I thought the guy in the middle was really attractive - but then I have a thing for nerdy guys with glasses.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | June 15, 2021 2:57 AM |
Meant to say "married to a man" above.
I guess it was so hard for me to believe, I unconsciously eliminated the word from my sentence.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | June 15, 2021 3:00 AM |
I like Savannah, even though she's a physical double for my last manager--I hope she's nicer. None of the contestants had a great game, including me. The guy was cute, with his well-trimmed beard, glasses, and long pauses.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | June 15, 2021 3:40 AM |
Maybe Katie is married to a woman who decided to transition into a man. Has happened to several lesbian couples I know. In fact, one lesbian I know now says she is heterosexual since her wife is now a man, albeit a transgender man.
I thought Savannah did a good job. I always have low expectations for Savannah but she always manages to exceed them.
I knew Rashomon.
Blanked on Final.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | June 15, 2021 8:10 AM |
I, too, have a weakness for nerds with specs (see: meltdown Ryan), but not that guy particularly. He did seem to have gay voice though.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | June 15, 2021 12:00 PM |
I also guessed "hands off" for FJ.
Though only 9, I recall Dag Hammarskjöld dying in a plane crash in 1961. Many believed and still believe that his plane was shot down. A deeply private man, he maintained a relationship with a male partner for years.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | June 15, 2021 12:28 PM |
Off topic: R581 We are about the same age... I remember news of the crash. At one particularly difficult time in my life I encountered Hammarskjöld's prayer. Which has continued to summarize all I ever need to pray - in my journeys through Christianity, Taoism, Buddhism and Dendrolatry.
For all that has been, thank you. For all that will be, yes.

I remember Savannah Guthrie for her terrific interview with Trump, remember? I think she did a great job as host.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | June 15, 2021 10:26 PM |
Easy peasy FJ. Jackie O of course.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | June 15, 2021 11:57 PM |
Final Jeopardy was super easy.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | June 15, 2021 11:59 PM |
Guthrie is turning out to be a decent host after all, though I still want Mayim hired.
Quan was vaguely creepy, and the other woman immediately struck me as possible trans. Crawl across screen said showed pre-empted for golf here on Thursday and Friday - boo hoo!
Final was another giveaway, agreed! Speaking of which, since there were several I knew that none of them did, here's another list...
Hot Pursuit, Grace Period, Bell in 1870s, San Juan Hill in 1890s, Discover card, and prognosticate.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | June 16, 2021 12:03 AM |
FJ was embarrassingly easy.
Who else could it have been?
by Anonymous | reply 587 | June 16, 2021 12:26 AM |
Savannah was okay—nothing wrong, but nothing distinctive. Not as awful as Dr. Oz, but it feels like it will be a long two weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | June 16, 2021 12:42 AM |
I recall Dr. Oz as speaking too quickly and with an impediment. I disliked his stint as host of Jeopardy. Mayim is the best.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | June 16, 2021 12:45 AM |
I have no complaints re Savannah - except that green dress did [bold]not[/bold] do her any favors.
It made me yearn for Mayim's "bathrobe."
FJ was way too easy.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | June 16, 2021 1:19 AM |
Jackie on Assistance as the Final! Super easy!
Lots of questions they didn't even try to answer. Lots of them they missed too.
Still having trouble picturing the champ Katie with a man. Everything about her screams lesbian.
Liking Savannah more. She's enthusiastic, but not perky like Katie Couric.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | June 16, 2021 8:54 AM |
Katie's website includes a lot of her illustrations--she's very good.
by Anonymous | reply 592 | June 16, 2021 5:00 PM |
That's actually a much better photo of her than her studio appearance. I like her, she seems like a nice person, but still a bit of her goes a long way.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | June 16, 2021 6:54 PM |
Evan was quite cute. I guessed Cosmo Kramer for FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | June 16, 2021 11:57 PM |
One of you bitches needs to grab Osmosis Jones are a red screen name NOW! SG's comeback on that was well done.
Trust you all heard me screaming "Nooooooooo...." when Evan flubbed the obvious Nicaragua! (Anyone else note the wedding ring?) Didn't know Final, but never saw any of those films.
Two-day involuntary holiday for me with my affiliate showing golf instead. Boo hoo!

Mister Cocoa, YouTube is your friend.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | June 17, 2021 12:32 AM |
Mister Cocoa,
Someone uploads each day's Jeopardy to YouTube shortly after it airs. Commercial free, so you can watch it all in 19 minutes!
Search for it! But it usually only stays up for a few days so watch it right away.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | June 17, 2021 9:00 AM |
Only thing that came to my mind was Moondoogie, a character from the Gidget movie and TV series. But I figured that was a little too obscure, and too old, even for Jeopardy.
Liking Savannah more each episode. But no way she would leave her Today job to host Jeopardy, so I doubt she's even a contender.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | June 17, 2021 9:10 AM |
I was surprised — and disappointed— that none of them knew The Mikado.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | June 18, 2021 12:01 AM |
