LeVar seems to be without a visible sense of humor.

I much preferred LeVar when he showed modesty when people were campaigning for him just after Alex died. Now, he's just become another campaigner and it's really... narcissistic, I agree. I also find some of his followers really pushy.

I don't want to see/read the meltdowns when he is not chosen.

He's got his guest-host spot. He should shut up now until he gets his week to audition, then people can see if he's any good.

I thought Anderson has been doing a decent job. He's stopped putting on the ridiculous, manly deep voice and gone back to his natural, slightly higher speaking voice. He's able to engage with the contestants in a personal way that none of the other guest hosts have been able to do so far. He's not going to be the permanent host, since there's no way he's moving to LA to do it, but he's been refreshing.

Tonight's game was exciting. An edge of your seat nail biter.

Bill Whitaker is doing the same thing that Anderson Cooper did. After the contestant answers with a question, you don't know if its correct for the time it takes for the host to look down at the screen to see the answer. So you don't know if its correct or not. Just too slow. Bring back Aaron Rodgers.

After Bill Whitaker's 2 weeks then the hosts will be Jeopardy contestant Buzzy Cohen, then Mayim Bialik, Savannah Guthrie, Dr, Sanjay Gupta, and George Stephanopoulos. The final four guest hosts for the season will be Robin Roberts, Levar Burton, David Faber and Joe Buck.

I think the constant changes are too much. Game shows are about consistency. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have benefitted from having longtime hosts.

WofF and Jeopardy air between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. where I live -- dinner time for me. It really is comfort food.

How strange that Anderson had the lowest ratings since I've found him the most engaging (along with Mike Richards and Ken Jennings).

I mentioned this on a previous thread, but the revolving door of hosts doesn't bother me. I just focus on the game. It's too bad the ratings are suffering though. I wonder if the people who stopped watching just don't like the show without Alex.

Tonight’s show was much better than last night’s train wreck. The two challengers got a lot of correct answers, and no one said anything as stunningly stupid as an 800 degree calzone.

Cooper's ratings were down solely because of politics. Just as people boycotted Dr. Oz's weeks because of his medical statements, they boycotted Cooper because of his political views. Personally, I think he's been the best so far.

I really don't think Whitaker is that bad, but he's got such a soft voice it detracts from his positives.

According to the schedule at r116's link, once we get into July, the guest hosts will only be on for a week.

George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Farber and Joe Buck are all just listed to be on for a week.

One week is enough time for the Le Var Loonies to bully Jeopardy into picking him.

LeVar's week is in late July. I imagine the Sony execs will have already made up their mind who the new host will be by that point, although they likely won't announce the new host until the end of July, just before taping on the new season starts.

Of the many people serving as guest hosts since January, most already have other jobs and aren't available to serve as the permanent host. Anderson Cooper is not going to give up his CNN gig to become Jeopardy host. Aaron Rogers is not going to give up quaterbacking to be host, Savanah Guthrie isn't ditching her Today gig to become Jeopardy host.

Exactly. Burton needs the work and America loves a comeback story. None of the other candidates are that exceptional that they shouldn't go with him. Anderson Cooper already has like 4 other jobs.

Compare Jeopardy with TPIR. The host there, whether Bob or Drew, is actively involved in the game -- the star of the show actually -- and there's a lot of variety in the game. A fun gig for the right person.

Jeopardy is the same old thing over and again, with the host pretending to be smart when everyone knows he has the answers and the side comments right there in front of him. Apart from the money, what's the attraction of the job?

I think all "real jobs" have a lot of routine in it, but being on camera host of a quiz show like Jeopardy has less than most. All the glam/tedious details and variables of TV production and continually changing selection of new "customers" (contestants) and forever seeing a range of new categories - history, art, media, wordplay and languages, geography, science, music, popular culture etc. etc. National media reactions to what you and the show are doing.

More variation and stimulation than a lawyer, accountant, real estate salesperson, etc.

Nobody said it's a "horrible" career, simply that once you look into it there's not much there. Sure, beats most other routine jobs. But not high-flying ones.

Anderson Cooper thinks of himself as Mike Wallace. No comparison there with Alex. Ditto a lawyer like David Boies. No comparison there with Alex, either.

I can't believe people are talking about Rodgers as a permanent host. Granted , he had high ratings because he is a football superstar, but he had to be the worst host (okay, Bill Whitaker is giving him a run for his money). Imagine listening to that dry monotone day after day.

I hate to admit it but Anderson Cooper has been the most competent and unobtrusive guest host thus far. He will not want the job so Producer Mike or Ken for the win.

We haven't talked about it much, but the Sony people are no doubt concerned about the show's demographics -- the average viewer age is about 65 -- and will be looking for a somewhat youthful host to broaden the show's appeal. Anderson, Katie, Oz and Bill don't do that.

Hard to believe they aren't finalizing the new host contract details now for filming in a couple of months? If so, that'd be either Ken or Mike (EP), although the latter seems more a DL eye candy thing to me. I suppose Levar, with his brigade of minions... I mean followers (see also: Yang Gang), might be a factor, but as he's in so late in the season not likely that'd be a real gamble.

Cooper was bland and colorless. By the end of this two weeks, Oz was doing a good job. Rodgers seemed to really enjoy hosting, but he would need voice lessons to break up the monotone.

Whitaker is also bland. Couric was the worst. My vote would be for producer Mike.

Bill is starting to relax a bit and appears to be less robotic. He's not in the top 3, of course, but he seems to be more comfortable.

Yesterday's show had someone from my hometown. I always root for them, at least at first.

I had no idea on Final, but think a contraction vs. non contraction shouldn't disqualify an answer. Essentially, its a spelling mistake and spelling doesn't count in final.

But then back last fall while Alex was still host, Jeopardy said a "Barry" answer was wrong when the Final answer was Berry Gordy. I also think that answer should have been OK.

On this week's episode of The Conners, Laurie Metcalf's character, Jackie, goes on Jeopardy. I won't reveal how she did in the game, but there was a clip of the Jeopardy sequence that aired in the show's promos.

Aaron Rodgers was the guest host for Jackie's game. I'm surprised to say Aaron does a pretty good job with the acting portion of the episode. Didn't come across as stiff or awkward in delivering his lines.

R174 My best friend's friend was one of the all time Jeopardy winners... before Ken Jennings. He was absolutely insufferable... and sadly would bring up his run on Jeopardy in casual conversation to no purpose. Know-it-allism needs to be performed with finesse, subtlety.

I never liked Buzzy. Uber-annoying. But he did a good job as moderator. (Moderator? Host? Reader?)

I hate Ryan so much. I also dislike Buzzy. It’s going to be a long championship.

Buzzy was new to me, but I thought he was really good. I guessed Alexander the Great, which was not so great.

Buzzy wasn't bad for a first day. And he had to put up with Ryan.

I thought Buzzy was way too manic and enthusiastic for the first ten minutes, but then he eased it into it and I really like him. He's already standing out and getting good feedback on social media.

Ryan was beyond irritating.

I'm shocked that Jason struggled at first but he did gain traction near the end.

Ryan was very polarizing today, but I really enjoyed his competitive intensity. This guy is obviously in it to win it and he REALLY REALLY wants to win it. I like contestants who bring that kind of energy and enthusiasm to the TOC. It makes it more fun to watch. I hope the other contenders play with the same drive.

First two surgeries were right side, and then left side, no mesh. Third time was repair of right side with mesh. That surgeon was not a very nice guy with minimal communication, so I wasn't prepared for the amount of discoloration and swelling. That having been said everything was normal after a couple of weeks, please don't worry it really is routine.

Depressed already thinking about Jennifer possibly winning. I know I harp on her a lot, but I've always been fond of Jason, and Nabir is a really nice guy. No, spelling doesn't count. Unfortunately, oral delivery does as Austin once gave clearly the correct answer, but was penalized (unfairly) strictly for his New York accent.

In FJ, misspelling is ok as long as it doesn't change the pronunciation - so Rossinni is ok but Barry is not.

Barry and Berry are only pronounced differently if you are a hyper-vigilant linguist. To 99.44% of the world any variation between the two does not register. Regional differences in pronouncing Mary are greater.

Those were fun boards tonight. I ran the entire Joan category; got Burt Reynolds, Ed Wood, Ta-Nehisi Coates and The Ivory Coast/Cote D'Ivoire Daily Double that Sam also got. I knew Malaga was in southern Spain 'cause I visited there in the early 2000s and took a ferry from Malaga to Morocco.

I'm super happy for Sam. That was a very well-deserved win as he was the best player in the entire tournament imho. All 15 of them were pretty great though and fun to watch.

R392 James Holzhauer wasn't the first, but in my memory he was the one who used the strategy every time... his knowledge was so broad his goal was to find the Daily Double, not to answer in a category he knew.

R391 - my mom hates players who do that as well to get at the Daily Double faster. Alex had to remind them that it's a better idea to start at the top to get a feel for the category often.

Plus it's nicer for us playing at home to get acclimated to the theme of the category. Hunting the DD is just greedy, which I guess is an OK strategy from championship games, but in regular games it's just vulgar.

It's not just hunting the DD, it's trying to accumulate more $$$ with the bottom board questions so you have more to wager when the DD comes up.

I didn't get the Fibonacci sequence either. I think the only clue I got in the math category was the infinity symbol which was a $200 clue.

Prior to James H., the occasional contestant would jump all over the board searching for the Daily Double. But most went straight down the category.

But once James made so much money with that jumping around strategy, many more started following it.

I much prefer going straight down the category from lowest to highest dollar amount if only because it allows me to more easily follow the category as a viewer. When they jump all over, it's harder for me to keep up with the subject we're dealing with.

I wonder how Ryan would've reacted if he won? Luckily, he informed all the viewers that he had a girlfriend and was off the market, for all those women who were throwing themselves at him.

I never thought that jumping all over the board had anything to do with looking for the Daily Double. I thought the contestants were just trying to amass the highest amount of money so if they stumbled on the Doubles, they had a cache of cash to bet. I don't get how simply bouncing around the board raises the chance of finding the Doubles.

The doubles are rarely in the top two rows. In this case, the vying champs were trying to accumulate money for when they hit the double.

I liked Matt Jackson - yes, he was a little aspie but he was a great player; he won $413K in 13 appearances and is 5th on the all time highest earnings list. And let's not forget his mother is Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is hot on Trump's trail.

Being There was certainly a book well respected in the Academy in the 70s (along with Kosinski's Painted Bird) but then in the early 80s there was some credible reports that Kosinski had simply copied texts from obscure Polish authors into English and claimed it as his own, and that charge of plagiarism certainly diminished his standing. 1. They air the preempted episode the next day at 7 p.m., and the rest of the week's episodes are a day behind -- Monday's episode airs on Tuesday, Tuesday's episode airs on Wednesday, etc. They finish off the week by airing the Friday episode on Saturday at 7 p.m. (when the station normally runs a repeat Jeopardy episode from a year ago). This is how they handle a PLANNED preemption like an election debate.

2. They air the preempted episode later that night at 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. This is how they handle an UNEXPECTED preemption like news coverage of a huge fire or some type of disaster.

Perhaps your New York station is following one of those two plans. Check on Saturday night and see if Friday's episode airs then.

I've been avoiding this thread because the NY metro area has been showing the last 3 episodes a day later because of the mayoral debate I referenced above. So yesterday's show was on tonight.

I have to admit I found Julia really irritating at first, but she kinda grew on me.

I really think her quirkiness is for real.

The fact is, some people are just plain odd and I don't have a problem with that - providing they're not WAY over-the top (like Austin).

I had low expectations for the host, which I admit she managed to meet, so we'll muddle through for the next two weeks on that score.

Blanked on Final, but these were the ones I knew that they didn't: vodka, Beau Brummel, Plymouth Rock, Rashomon, Omar Khayam, the Walrus, and Dag Hammerskjold. I wouldn't bother to mention two or three, but tonight was several.

Savanna was annoying when she kept repeating— in that enthusiastic voice she has — “you got it.” But otherwise adequate.

I still insist laissez-faire was a better answer to that prompt than Monroe Doctrine!

I like Savannah, even though she's a physical double for my last manager--I hope she's nicer. None of the contestants had a great game, including me. The guy was cute, with his well-trimmed beard, glasses, and long pauses.

Maybe Katie is married to a woman who decided to transition into a man. Has happened to several lesbian couples I know. In fact, one lesbian I know now says she is heterosexual since her wife is now a man, albeit a transgender man.

I thought Savannah did a good job. I always have low expectations for Savannah but she always manages to exceed them.

I, too, have a weakness for nerds with specs (see: meltdown Ryan), but not that guy particularly. He did seem to have gay voice though.

I also guessed "hands off" for FJ.

Though only 9, I recall Dag Hammarskjöld dying in a plane crash in 1961. Many believed and still believe that his plane was shot down. A deeply private man, he maintained a relationship with a male partner for years.

Off topic: R581 We are about the same age... I remember news of the crash. At one particularly difficult time in my life I encountered Hammarskjöld's prayer. Which has continued to summarize all I ever need to pray - in my journeys through Christianity, Taoism, Buddhism and Dendrolatry.

Savannah was okay—nothing wrong, but nothing distinctive. Not as awful as Dr. Oz, but it feels like it will be a long two weeks.

I recall Dr. Oz as speaking too quickly and with an impediment. I disliked his stint as host of Jeopardy. Mayim is the best.

I have no complaints re Savannah - except that green dress did [bold]not[/bold] do her any favors.

It made me yearn for Mayim's "bathrobe."

FJ was way too easy.

Still having trouble picturing the champ Katie with a man. Everything about her screams lesbian.

Liking Savannah more. She's enthusiastic, but not perky like Katie Couric.

Search for it! But it usually only stays up for a few days so watch it right away.

Only thing that came to my mind was Moondoogie, a character from the Gidget movie and TV series. But I figured that was a little too obscure, and too old, even for Jeopardy.

Liking Savannah more each episode. But no way she would leave her Today job to host Jeopardy, so I doubt she's even a contender.

I was surprised — and disappointed— that none of them knew The Mikado.
