Show her tits, shit in a bucket, and play a historical figure.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 26, 2021 3:42 AM |
She needs to suck more cock.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 26, 2021 3:44 AM |
She has to make a film where, while she was excellent, she was not the only good thing about—it would help if she were not the only nomination (makeup and hair doesn’t count). Had she played Fern in Nomadland, I bet she would have won. It’s also why she should have won for Dangerous Liaisons ;and Garp and perhaps Fatal Attraction).

Even dying isn't a guarantee.

Play late in life Eleanor Roosevelt in her biopic.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 26, 2021 3:51 AM |
One thing this does is give her an even more undeniable narrative for next time - oh, and there will be a next time.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 26, 2021 3:51 AM |
They just need to give her the honorary next year. And do it on the damn show, not at a ceremony months before.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 26, 2021 3:52 AM |
Winning for Sunset Boulevard would be particularly juicy.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 26, 2021 3:53 AM |
R8 I think funding and production for the film will speed up especially because she lost tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 26, 2021 3:54 AM |
Play some sort of mental defective.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 26, 2021 3:57 AM |
Her narrative as a loser gets her so much goodwill. Actually winning would just deflate that. I mean, does she want to be in the same company as Mira Sorvino and Louise Fletcher or with "I can't believe they never won" people like Hitchcock and Peter O'Toole?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 26, 2021 3:57 AM |
r10, so just do a documentary about her own life, then?

Star in a gender-bending bio pic of EliecWiesel.

I AM STILL SAM (2022)
Eight-time Oscar-nominated Glenn Close stars as "Sam," a father with an intellectual disability, played in the original by Sean Penn. But Sam's late-in-life gender affirmation surgery means they're now "Sam," a nonbinary trans parent with an intellectual disability. And on top of that, Sam's in the early stages of Alzheimer's! Will this be the project that finally nabs Glenn the golden goodie?

If it were a Tony she was after, Glenn could have taken her dentures off and done "How Fucking Dare You? The Patti LuPone Story" as a musical. It won't work at the Oscars though as none of the film people know who LuPone is.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 26, 2021 7:02 AM |

What if--just if--Glenn dies this year? Her next film to come out is--wait for it--'Swan Song'. Looks like she'd be up for Best Supporting.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 26, 2021 12:17 PM |
At this point anything other than winning Best Actress for Sunset Blvd, to a big standing ovation in front of a packed theatre, would be a disservice.
I'm glad she didn't win for Hillbilly Elegy though. Not that she was bad (probably the only good thing about that pile of garbage), but it would be nice if for once a great actor would win for a great role.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 26, 2021 12:21 PM |
I don’t think Glenn cares. She’s had a wonderful career and in 50 years her work will be remembered while Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson will be forgotten. She’s also been awarded for her stage work and a Tony is far more prestigious than an Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 26, 2021 12:22 PM |

Agree with this wholeheartedly.
She's an acting legend. She's a fearless actress who isn't worried about making herself ugly. She's been in iconic movies, hit tv series, she's celebrated on stage for dramas and musicals.
An Oscar doesn't define her career, and neither should it.

Glenn easily has the most well-rounded career of anyone working today. She has had repeated success on Broadway, film and television. She has had success on Broadway in musicals and in drama. She has done drama and comedy on film. She has won Emmys, Tonys, and Golden Globe awards. She's even a fucking Disney star.
At this point, it really looks like it's the Oscar voters who come up short every time.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 26, 2021 5:16 PM |
Shitting in a bucket isn’t going to change things.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 26, 2021 5:23 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 26, 2021 5:29 PM |
Also, Glenn is widely respected and loved by co stars. Not too many people can say that. Yes, I’m looking at you Patti Lu.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 26, 2021 5:56 PM |
If she was so well liked, she should've easily won over a foreigner anyone in Hollywood barely knows.
Did she break up some Hollywood royalty's marriage or something? Did she run over some big wig's dog? Or is M really scheming behind the scenes?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 26, 2021 6:02 PM |
LOL that Glenn is loved. She’s a cunt. A bitch. Co-stars HATE her. If she was so beloved, she’d win an oscar. The voters hate her because she’s a nasty old cunt. Anyone who has worked with her won’t vote for the bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 26, 2021 6:28 PM |
This would be an opportunity for that Cunt Edith Wilson to redeem herself.
I don’t want a musical; I want an action spoken-word poem/rap of the coward Edith Wilson controlling Woodrow and destroying the League of Nations - setting the stage for nationalism, war profiteering, and ugly people referring to themselves as Aryan.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 26, 2021 6:42 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 26, 2021 7:15 PM |
The only way Glenn will win an award is if she kills Viola Davis and takes her place. Glenn's acting and Viola's name branding will make her a sure winner.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 26, 2021 7:17 PM |
Glenn has to be strung up by the clit and sing “With One Look.”
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 26, 2021 7:19 PM |
I would rather see Glenn finally get an Oscar instead of overrated pretentious Viola getting a second Oscar.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 26, 2021 7:21 PM |

In terms of Oscar, for whatever reason, she’s just not sponge worthy.

Make up will do wonders. She’ll win.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 26, 2021 7:24 PM |
maybe they can do CGI using the face of G's weirdo daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 26, 2021 7:26 PM |
She can’t even fucking sing. She’s to front a musical, twenty years past the character’s age, reliant, apparently on make up or CGI, in defiance of any talent out there of the right age who can sing.
Yes, that’s plausible.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 26, 2021 7:30 PM |
Glenn is 30 years older than the character.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 27, 2021 2:18 AM |

It would be hilarious if Winslet had a Renee Zellwegger type comeback in a few years and got another Oscar. You know Viola and Glenn would each have meltdowns.

3 husbands, one baby daddy, one fiancé, that never made it down the aisle, the guy from Murphy Brown od'ing, mentally ill sister, plus 8 dramatic nights of losing the oscar.
Lots of drama I'm sure.

Glenn Close : The Final Nazi Hunter
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 27, 2021 6:47 AM |
Glenn would be ridiculous in "Sunset" on more than one count, she is simply too big and bulky as well as decades too old. Like M playing the editor of Vogue, on bulk alone she was not credible. The "Sunset" remake should have been done by FAYE, but it's too late now.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 27, 2021 8:09 AM |
Miss Dunaway was fired from replacing Close in Sunset you know r78?

Anyone Glenn just played the part again to great acclaim 5 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | April 27, 2021 8:14 AM |
Obviously, she has to play a gay, black, alcoholic, transwoman of colour, preferably limbless, in a historical setting which. offers lots of troubles for her to overcome. And she should teach a paralysed kitten to walk.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | April 27, 2021 8:36 AM |
[quote] Glenn Close : The Final Nazi Hunter
Close should play a Nazi tasked with hunting down and torturing Brits and ethnics. Patti LuPone to be cast as the ethnic and Olivia Colman as the toothless Brit who get whipped and tortured by Glenn. And Meryl can play Sophie again so that Glenn can kill both her kids saving her the trouble of having to make the harrowing choice.

Norma’s is 50 in the screenplay.
Seems to me the actress playing her should be an age where she’s believable in the part. Otherwise just let Carol Burnett do it.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 27, 2021 11:55 AM |
Listen up, ladies. Young aspiring screenwriter Joe Gillis, hoping to break into the film industry, has to carry on an affair with Norma Desmond. It's one thing for a 30 year old straight man to have an affair with a 50 year old woman. But it's just fucking unbelievable, not to mention unpalatable, for that 30 year old to be porking a 74 year old.
Norma Desmond is 50. Joe Gillis is 30. If they are not, a major element of the story is lost. This element is crucial to advancing the story. Glenn Close may play Norma Desmond in an entirely new property, perhaps a look at what happens to a superannuated Norma after she is released from prison. That's how absurd it is to cast Glenn Close in SUNSET BOULEVARD. Her Norma will be old enough to have served her entire sentence of 25 years to life for murdering the young screenwriter.

by Anonymous | reply 88 | April 27, 2021 1:35 PM |
The sweet and laughable notion that Norma could just be aged to 70 is she would have been close to forty at the height of her fame... which just isn’t gonna happen. Or the movie moves to 1970... when there would be no de Mille comeback he being long dead and no other directors alive and working with whole she would have worked at the height of her fame.
But maybe we could roll in the Valley of the Dolls casting and create a whole new musical.

She doesn’t deserve an oscar. Give a performance that’s worthy of one, then maybe she might get one. You don’t deserve an oscar just because you’re nominated a number of times. Meryl’s been nominated at least 20 times and has only won 3. She didn’t deserve it the other 17 times.

Close has helped to sell a lot of movies over decades. Give her a fucking statue.
She does have a reputation for being difficult with her colleagues. I think it is possible that they nominate her each year just to drag her before the cameras and snub her all over again.

G played Norma just a few years ago and it was totally believable. If anything her age adds to the part. Cast an older Joe. Jake G. or somebody and it will work. Betty is supposed to be repulsed by his affair with her anyway.

To the degree it is correct at all, it is because no one buy a tiny subset of eldergays would be able to identify the problem so that they could, in turn, care about it. The rest of the country will take one look and run, not really knowing why.

If she just keeps working until her eighties she’ll get a Golden Pond or something where the Academy is like, we really better do this because she may not live much longer.

She needs to revisit her role of Alex in Fatal Attraction. It turns out she survived the gun shot and became a reformed nun. She spends her time servicing the Lord and lecturing about her me too experiences in the 80s. On the 40th anniversary of her affair with Michael Douglas though it reawakens her sexual urges. What will win our? Her insatiable craving and need for cock or her dedication to the cross.

Glenn Close doesn't need a damn oscar. She's better than that stupid award. If she dies never having won it, she'll still be a motherfricking legend.
That said. If she does manage to win a competitive oscar, it will be such an epic Susan Lucci-at-the-Emmys moment. I'm talking five minute standing ovation, cheers and maybe a few tears. I imagine the similar will be true when Diane Warren wins.

by Anonymous | reply 176 | May 1, 2021 12:59 AM |
She just makes movies. Her last two nominations came from projects with little support or advertising from their studio. A lot of the Academy likes her (like Our Sally) but just not enough to push her over the top for a win.
I don't think she works thinking I got to find an Oscar project. She does a lot of small films that go nowhere.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | May 1, 2021 4:24 AM |
Poor G. She lost to a deserving Best Actress winner who couldn't win there so got a makeup award (Jess Lange), a woman wearing yellowface and making her eyes slanty who'd never really seemed like the male she was supposed to be and would be racial offensive today (Linda Hunt), an old British actress no one ever heard of in the US who never made many more movies and didn't even show up to accept the award (Peggy Ashcroft.) A pop singer whose career pretty much ended with the Oscar (Cher). Someone who thought they did a bad job in the film they won for (Jodie Foster.)
and more recently to the dreaded M and that horse woman who should have been in Supporting.

[quote] Had she played Fern in Nomadland, I bet she would have won.
R3 I am sorry but I think you are wrong, Close can't play McDormand's Fern, if Close was cast, her version of Fern would be completely different, it would be "bitter" or at least bitter in the beginning, the same for Streep, Streep's Fern would be a "sad" case. McDormand has this earthy quality to blend in with other people, while Close and Streep tend to "standout" no matter what roles they play, sooner or later they will let you know "I am different here, not necessarily better than you, but I am different from everyone else in the room."
Also, Fern is a completely fictional character written by the director Chole Zhao, it's not in the book. Zhao created this role after watching how McDormand was able to interact and connect with the real people from the book and strangers on the road, that's why the role suits her so well., because it's partially modeled after McDormand. If Close or Streep was cast here, the story would be rewritten, it might be an entirely different movie.

The Honorary is for LOSERS
by Anonymous | reply 191 | May 5, 2021 10:40 AM |
I think Close's difficulty, at least in her earlier work is she never gets subsumed by the character. I have always felt acutely aware I was watching Glenn Close. Everything about Glenn is harsh. The angles of her face, the precision of her (speaking) voice... she comes across hard (which is probably why she was so great as Patti Hughes or Cruella.) I never get a sense of her being able to have a genuine laugh at herself or playing warmth.
I haven't seen hillbilly grandmaw... maybe she disappears into that.

by Anonymous | reply 194 | May 5, 2021 2:16 PM |
Well... if she gets an Honorary Oscar, it will be an Oscar made just for her.
All of M's Oscars were already sitting there and going to go to someone. Might as well be M.
In any event, the "competitive" Oscar is just part of a big marketing event. Of no consequence.
The Honorary Oscar is more like the coveted Jean Hersholt Award. True recognition of one's contribution. Personal. Meaningful. Not like that trash they give away every year to generate publicity.

Sunset Boulevard, the Musical starring Glenn Close, Hugh Jackman, and Ben Kingsley as Max!
by Anonymous | reply 200 | May 5, 2021 7:18 PM |
She needs to focus on those great supporting roles. If you look at her choices over past 10 years, she has usually chosen lead/starring roles over and over in mediocre projects from directors lacking a track record for delivering Oscars. It's like she does the movies Meryl Streep turned down. Same for Annette Benning.
Hilbilly Elegy was practically designed to hand her an Oscar. Ron Howard directing, material supposedly of social importance, full immersion into makeup with a highly affected performance and accent. And it fit the supporting category. Plus Netflix distribution guaranteed a huge audience for a movie that wouldve been ignored in theaters. She also got paid $$ for it. And snagged a nomination despite the movie being a total dumpster fire. If it had merely been watchable, she would've won.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | May 5, 2021 8:16 PM |
Glenn Close could win 10 Supporting Actress Oscars and the bitches on this board would scream to high heaven that an Oscar doesn't count unless it is for Best Actress.

A statement from the Toronto Trans Collective
[quote]The Toronto Trans Collective continues its boycott against Glenn Close as an actor and the films, plays, tv series and audio books featuring Glenn Close following Glenn Close's decision to appear as a trans man in Albert Nobbs. Transface is as offensive as blackface although nowhere near as offensive as Asianface, as seen in Breakfast at Tiffany's and One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing because Asians are the cishets of racial minorities. The Toronto Trans Collective considers Clenn Glose's transface to be an act of extreme violence towards trans people and we reserve the right to campaign for whoever and whomever Glenn Close is nominated alongside in any future awards. Trans women are women.

by Anonymous | reply 218 | May 8, 2021 12:10 PM |
ALW can keep fiddling with the music until Glenn's too old to be able to sing it.
All he has to do is throw in a few new high notes, call them essential to his vision of the piece, and La Close will be out on her ass. ALW is not a man upon whom a diva can depend.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 8, 2021 12:16 PM |
She is going to humiliate herself if she persists with this. She cannot sing it and the reviews will be horrible (the critics always like a go at ALW too... this thing has a bull's eye on it no matter how good it may be.) So she's planning to cap a career known for crazies and Oscar nominations with a version of Sextette for the 20s?
I never thought I'd feel sorry for Glenn Close but she seems to be living Norma, not playing her. I admit, I really like this show (which I know most people seem to think it is a clunker) and if it's going to be done (which is bizarre enough because I don't recall Norma Desmond as one of the Marvel Comics) give it to somebody who can sing a sung through.
