What does Glenn Close have to do to finally win an Oscar?

Let's make some surefire projects for her!

How about Frances: The Frances McDormand Story?

by Anonymousreply 228May 10, 2021 12:42 PM

Show her tits, shit in a bucket, and play a historical figure.

by Anonymousreply 1April 26, 2021 3:42 AM

She needs to suck more cock.

by Anonymousreply 2April 26, 2021 3:44 AM

She has to make a film where, while she was excellent, she was not the only good thing about—it would help if she were not the only nomination (makeup and hair doesn’t count). Had she played Fern in Nomadland, I bet she would have won. It’s also why she should have won for Dangerous Liaisons ;and Garp and perhaps Fatal Attraction).

by Anonymousreply 3April 26, 2021 3:45 AM

Even dying isn't a guarantee.

by Anonymousreply 4April 26, 2021 3:50 AM

Play late in life Eleanor Roosevelt in her biopic.

by Anonymousreply 5April 26, 2021 3:51 AM

One thing this does is give her an even more undeniable narrative for next time - oh, and there will be a next time.

by Anonymousreply 6April 26, 2021 3:51 AM

They just need to give her the honorary next year. And do it on the damn show, not at a ceremony months before.

by Anonymousreply 7April 26, 2021 3:52 AM

Winning for Sunset Boulevard would be particularly juicy.

by Anonymousreply 8April 26, 2021 3:53 AM

R8 I think funding and production for the film will speed up especially because she lost tonight.

by Anonymousreply 9April 26, 2021 3:54 AM

Play some sort of mental defective.

by Anonymousreply 10April 26, 2021 3:57 AM

Her narrative as a loser gets her so much goodwill. Actually winning would just deflate that. I mean, does she want to be in the same company as Mira Sorvino and Louise Fletcher or with "I can't believe they never won" people like Hitchcock and Peter O'Toole?

by Anonymousreply 11April 26, 2021 3:57 AM

r10, so just do a documentary about her own life, then?

by Anonymousreply 12April 26, 2021 3:59 AM

She has to present hole

by Anonymousreply 13April 26, 2021 3:59 AM
She needs to suck more cock.

Well, I don't know, dahling... she never sucked [italic]my[/italic] cock, at least!

by Anonymousreply 14April 26, 2021 4:01 AM
Show her tits, shit in a bucket, and play a historical figure.

And do an ass-to-ass double-dildo scene.

by Anonymousreply 15April 26, 2021 4:03 AM

Holocaust

by Anonymousreply 16April 26, 2021 4:04 AM

She'll get a honorary one like Peter O'Toole, maybe.

by Anonymousreply 17April 26, 2021 4:06 AM

Just maybe if she wouldn’t have fucked that B actor Jon Hamm...

by Anonymousreply 18April 26, 2021 4:21 AM

She can stop being such a cunt to everyone! No one in the industry likes the bitch so they don’t vote for her to win awards. She’s vile.

by Anonymousreply 19April 26, 2021 5:49 AM

Star in a gender-bending bio pic of EliecWiesel.

by Anonymousreply 20April 26, 2021 5:52 AM

I AM STILL SAM (2022)

Eight-time Oscar-nominated Glenn Close stars as "Sam," a father with an intellectual disability, played in the original by Sean Penn. But Sam's late-in-life gender affirmation surgery means they're now "Sam," a nonbinary trans parent with an intellectual disability. And on top of that, Sam's in the early stages of Alzheimer's! Will this be the project that finally nabs Glenn the golden goodie?

by Anonymousreply 21April 26, 2021 5:56 AM

R21 Bitch, you had me up until about halfway 😂

by Anonymousreply 22April 26, 2021 5:57 AM

She keeps losing for a reason - she's just not that good.

by Anonymousreply 23April 26, 2021 6:03 AM

Glenn Close has no fucks to give.

by Anonymousreply 24April 26, 2021 6:06 AM

Well, she just did this for the Academy tonight. If shaking your ass on the Oscars doesn't earn one an honourary one, then all hope is lost.

by Anonymousreply 25April 26, 2021 6:08 AM

R25 That is too fucking cute!

by Anonymousreply 26April 26, 2021 6:11 AM

Granny porn.

by Anonymousreply 27April 26, 2021 6:26 AM

If it were a Tony she was after, Glenn could have taken her dentures off and done "How Fucking Dare You? The Patti LuPone Story" as a musical. It won't work at the Oscars though as none of the film people know who LuPone is.

by Anonymousreply 28April 26, 2021 7:02 AM

Give Glenn a goddamn Oscar!! Enough of this bullshit. No one deserves it more.

by Anonymousreply 29April 26, 2021 10:21 AM

Shaking her fat ass did her no favors. Have several seats you cunt.

by Anonymousreply 30April 26, 2021 12:01 PM

R5 - make that Eleanor Roosevelt biopic a musical with lots of big show stopping numbers with tap dancers, and Glenn will finally have her Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 31April 26, 2021 12:12 PM

Learn how to act.

by Anonymousreply 32April 26, 2021 12:14 PM

What if--just if--Glenn dies this year? Her next film to come out is--wait for it--'Swan Song'. Looks like she'd be up for Best Supporting.

by Anonymousreply 33April 26, 2021 12:17 PM

At this point anything other than winning Best Actress for Sunset Blvd, to a big standing ovation in front of a packed theatre, would be a disservice.

I'm glad she didn't win for Hillbilly Elegy though. Not that she was bad (probably the only good thing about that pile of garbage), but it would be nice if for once a great actor would win for a great role.

by Anonymousreply 34April 26, 2021 12:21 PM

I don’t think Glenn cares. She’s had a wonderful career and in 50 years her work will be remembered while Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson will be forgotten. She’s also been awarded for her stage work and a Tony is far more prestigious than an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 35April 26, 2021 12:22 PM
Her narrative as a loser gets her so much goodwill. Actually winning would just deflate that. I mean, does she want to be in the same company as Mira Sorvino and Louise Fletcher or with "I can't believe they never won" people like Hitchcock and Peter O'Toole?

Agree with this wholeheartedly.

She's an acting legend. She's a fearless actress who isn't worried about making herself ugly. She's been in iconic movies, hit tv series, she's celebrated on stage for dramas and musicals.

An Oscar doesn't define her career, and neither should it.

by Anonymousreply 36April 26, 2021 12:51 PM

A tony far more prestigious than an Oscar my ass

by Anonymousreply 37April 26, 2021 12:53 PM

The Meryl Streep Story starring G.

by Anonymousreply 38April 26, 2021 1:01 PM

She needs to portray Rosa Parks in a daring new interpretation of " Bus Stop."

by Anonymousreply 39April 26, 2021 1:02 PM

R5 Harriet Sansom Harris has played Eleanor very well in two series. I don’t think Glenn could be better.

by Anonymousreply 40April 26, 2021 1:29 PM

Oh you just know that she’s pissed that she doesn’t have an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 41April 26, 2021 1:30 PM

Do a remake of "Glenn or Glenda" with Glenda Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 42April 26, 2021 1:36 PM

Apologize.

by Anonymousreply 43April 26, 2021 4:33 PM

Playing herself in "White Men *Can* Jump: The Woody Harrelson Story"

by Anonymousreply 44April 26, 2021 5:06 PM

Is M as much of a cunt in real life as she is here to G and Voila?

by Anonymousreply 45April 26, 2021 5:07 PM

Meryl never shook her FAT ass at an awards show.

by Anonymousreply 46April 26, 2021 5:10 PM

"as she is here to G and Voila?"

Oh dear, R45.

by Anonymousreply 47April 26, 2021 5:15 PM

Glenn easily has the most well-rounded career of anyone working today. She has had repeated success on Broadway, film and television. She has had success on Broadway in musicals and in drama. She has done drama and comedy on film. She has won Emmys, Tonys, and Golden Globe awards. She's even a fucking Disney star.

At this point, it really looks like it's the Oscar voters who come up short every time.

by Anonymousreply 48April 26, 2021 5:16 PM

Shitting in a bucket isn’t going to change things.

by Anonymousreply 49April 26, 2021 5:23 PM

Isn't it obvious? She has to play Anne Frank.

by Anonymousreply 50April 26, 2021 5:29 PM

Also, Glenn is widely respected and loved by co stars. Not too many people can say that. Yes, I’m looking at you Patti Lu.

by Anonymousreply 51April 26, 2021 5:56 PM

If she was so well liked, she should've easily won over a foreigner anyone in Hollywood barely knows.

Did she break up some Hollywood royalty's marriage or something? Did she run over some big wig's dog? Or is M really scheming behind the scenes?

by Anonymousreply 52April 26, 2021 6:02 PM

LOL that Glenn is loved. She’s a cunt. A bitch. Co-stars HATE her. If she was so beloved, she’d win an oscar. The voters hate her because she’s a nasty old cunt. Anyone who has worked with her won’t vote for the bitch.

by Anonymousreply 53April 26, 2021 6:28 PM

This would be an opportunity for that Cunt Edith Wilson to redeem herself.

I don’t want a musical; I want an action spoken-word poem/rap of the coward Edith Wilson controlling Woodrow and destroying the League of Nations - setting the stage for nationalism, war profiteering, and ugly people referring to themselves as Aryan.

by Anonymousreply 54April 26, 2021 6:42 PM

Maybe she can play a disabled person in WWII period piece movie.

by Anonymousreply 55April 26, 2021 7:15 PM

The only way Glenn will win an award is if she kills Viola Davis and takes her place. Glenn's acting and Viola's name branding will make her a sure winner.

by Anonymousreply 56April 26, 2021 7:17 PM

Glenn has to be strung up by the clit and sing “With One Look.”

by Anonymousreply 57April 26, 2021 7:19 PM

I would rather see Glenn finally get an Oscar instead of overrated pretentious Viola getting a second Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 58April 26, 2021 7:19 PM

Some acting lessons might help.

by Anonymousreply 59April 26, 2021 7:21 PM

I looked at the photos from last night.... she will make a fool of herself in a Sunset film. She’s too old.

In terms of Oscar, for whatever reason, she’s just not sponge worthy.

by Anonymousreply 60April 26, 2021 7:22 PM

Make up will do wonders. She’ll win.

by Anonymousreply 61April 26, 2021 7:24 PM

maybe they can do CGI using the face of G's weirdo daughter.

by Anonymousreply 62April 26, 2021 7:26 PM

She can’t even fucking sing. She’s to front a musical, twenty years past the character’s age, reliant, apparently on make up or CGI, in defiance of any talent out there of the right age who can sing.

Yes, that’s plausible.

by Anonymousreply 63April 26, 2021 7:30 PM

Glenn is 30 years older than the character.

by Anonymousreply 64April 27, 2021 2:18 AM

Well if Glenn’s not too old to play Norma, then obviously I would be happy to play the part. This should be done properly.

by Anonymousreply 65April 27, 2021 2:23 AM

Play a whiney old bitch who loses her shit the-factory-owns-my-ass job in Nevada and can only think of one way to solve it--work on-call for Amazon where all she has to do is stroll around chatting with co-workers and go on long breaks.

by Anonymousreply 66April 27, 2021 2:28 AM

She proved her musical chops with Up With People.

by Anonymousreply 67April 27, 2021 2:28 AM

Ms. Winslet doesn’t have a 2nd Oscar yet. Nothing more for Viola.

by Anonymousreply 68April 27, 2021 2:39 AM

Die and be black. According to Twitter that’s all that matters

by Anonymousreply 69April 27, 2021 2:40 AM

She needs to play HM The Queen.

by Anonymousreply 70April 27, 2021 2:51 AM

Glenn will win an Oscar playing Nancy Drew's housekeeper, Hannah Gruen.

by Anonymousreply 71April 27, 2021 2:59 AM

Does her pussy stink? I say yes.

by Anonymousreply 72April 27, 2021 3:08 AM
Ms. Winslet doesn’t have a 2nd Oscar yet. Nothing more for Viola.

It would be hilarious if Winslet had a Renee Zellwegger type comeback in a few years and got another Oscar. You know Viola and Glenn would each have meltdowns.

by Anonymousreply 73April 27, 2021 3:21 AM

Glenn would be a pluperfect Camilla Parker-Bowles.

by Anonymousreply 74April 27, 2021 3:52 AM

She should do The Glenn Close Story.

3 husbands, one baby daddy, one fiancé, that never made it down the aisle, the guy from Murphy Brown od'ing, mentally ill sister, plus 8 dramatic nights of losing the oscar.

Lots of drama I'm sure.

by Anonymousreply 75April 27, 2021 3:55 AM

She has to do a Holocaust movie. It's the only way

by Anonymousreply 76April 27, 2021 4:08 AM

Glenn Close : The Final Nazi Hunter

by Anonymousreply 77April 27, 2021 6:47 AM

Glenn would be ridiculous in "Sunset" on more than one count, she is simply too big and bulky as well as decades too old. Like M playing the editor of Vogue, on bulk alone she was not credible. The "Sunset" remake should have been done by FAYE, but it's too late now.

by Anonymousreply 78April 27, 2021 8:09 AM

Miss Dunaway was fired from replacing Close in Sunset you know r78?

Norma doesn't have to be certain age. Just deluded enough that she can return to her "glory days"

Anyone Glenn just played the part again to great acclaim 5 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 79April 27, 2021 8:14 AM

Obviously, she has to play a gay, black, alcoholic, transwoman of colour, preferably limbless, in a historical setting which. offers lots of troubles for her to overcome. And she should teach a paralysed kitten to walk.

by Anonymousreply 80April 27, 2021 8:36 AM
Glenn Close : The Final Nazi Hunter

Close should play a Nazi tasked with hunting down and torturing Brits and ethnics. Patti LuPone to be cast as the ethnic and Olivia Colman as the toothless Brit who get whipped and tortured by Glenn. And Meryl can play Sophie again so that Glenn can kill both her kids saving her the trouble of having to make the harrowing choice.

by Anonymousreply 81April 27, 2021 8:40 AM

Barbra is 79 now. Glenn is only 74.

Glenn can take over GYPSY.

by Anonymousreply 82April 27, 2021 11:52 AM
Norma doesn't have to be certain age. Just deluded enough that she can return to her "glory days"

Norma’s is 50 in the screenplay.

Seems to me the actress playing her should be an age where she’s believable in the part. Otherwise just let Carol Burnett do it.

by Anonymousreply 83April 27, 2021 11:55 AM

Listen up, ladies. Young aspiring screenwriter Joe Gillis, hoping to break into the film industry, has to carry on an affair with Norma Desmond. It's one thing for a 30 year old straight man to have an affair with a 50 year old woman. But it's just fucking unbelievable, not to mention unpalatable, for that 30 year old to be porking a 74 year old.

Norma Desmond is 50. Joe Gillis is 30. If they are not, a major element of the story is lost. This element is crucial to advancing the story. Glenn Close may play Norma Desmond in an entirely new property, perhaps a look at what happens to a superannuated Norma after she is released from prison. That's how absurd it is to cast Glenn Close in SUNSET BOULEVARD. Her Norma will be old enough to have served her entire sentence of 25 years to life for murdering the young screenwriter.

by Anonymousreply 84April 27, 2021 12:06 PM

Granny Porn

by Anonymousreply 85April 27, 2021 12:12 PM

Let’s see her shake her ass, but this time when she’s nekkid. That will garner an Oscar!

by Anonymousreply 86April 27, 2021 12:32 PM

Glenn should've had a less bizarre outfit at the Oscars. She still looks great...why not flaunt it?

by Anonymousreply 87April 27, 2021 1:16 PM
Her Norma will be old enough to have served her entire sentence of 25 years to life for murdering the young screenwriter

And after all that time she may have gone hardcore girl on girl.

by Anonymousreply 88April 27, 2021 1:35 PM

The sweet and laughable notion that Norma could just be aged to 70 is she would have been close to forty at the height of her fame... which just isn’t gonna happen. Or the movie moves to 1970... when there would be no de Mille comeback he being long dead and no other directors alive and working with whole she would have worked at the height of her fame.

But maybe we could roll in the Valley of the Dolls casting and create a whole new musical.

by Anonymousreply 89April 27, 2021 1:38 PM

Glenn is a natural for Neely.

by Anonymousreply 90April 27, 2021 1:46 PM

Cure for cancer

Solve Rubik’s cube in 10 seconds

Get Donald Trump to admit a mistake and laugh audibly

Tongue kiss M

Re-edit Cats to make it entertaining

Brush Boris Johnson’s hair

Achieving all of these in a 24 hour period allows G to move on to the second round.

by Anonymousreply 91April 27, 2021 2:09 PM

After her twerking bit, I'd say a Dirty Dancing reboot.

by Anonymousreply 92April 27, 2021 2:09 PM

Dial M For Murder - Glenn conspires with her lover to kill Meryl Streep

by Anonymousreply 93April 27, 2021 2:13 PM

Glenn Oso Close will get it eventually.

by Anonymousreply 94April 27, 2021 2:44 PM

She’ll never win. Too many voters HATE her.

by Anonymousreply 95April 27, 2021 2:53 PM

If she didn’t win for Maxie, she is never going to win.

by Anonymousreply 96April 27, 2021 3:54 PM

It’s so obvious that she deserves at least one Oscar. At this stage, it’s the Academy that looks ridiculous, not her.

by Anonymousreply 97April 27, 2021 4:05 PM

M will win another Oscar before G gets even one

by Anonymousreply 98April 27, 2021 4:24 PM

She doesn’t deserve an oscar. Give a performance that’s worthy of one, then maybe she might get one. You don’t deserve an oscar just because you’re nominated a number of times. Meryl’s been nominated at least 20 times and has only won 3. She didn’t deserve it the other 17 times.

by Anonymousreply 99April 27, 2021 4:40 PM

Of course I did. I simply chose to hold something back, to give the others a chance.

Well, most of them.

by Anonymousreply 100April 27, 2021 4:43 PM

Oh, please, R99. The awards are a marketing exercise. Nothing more. A publicity tool to help Hollywood sell its products. It has nothing to do with artistic achievement. Don't be so naive.

Close has helped to sell a lot of movies over decades. Give her a fucking statue.

She does have a reputation for being difficult with her colleagues. I think it is possible that they nominate her each year just to drag her before the cameras and snub her all over again.

by Anonymousreply 101April 27, 2021 4:46 PM

Does she really have a reputation as difficult? Stories, please.

by Anonymousreply 102April 27, 2021 4:48 PM

She’s a known cunt.

by Anonymousreply 103April 27, 2021 5:15 PM

It's so funny that people keep saying she's difficult or a cunt and, yet, there appear to be zero stories to back this up.

At least with Faye, you've got the stories as proof.

by Anonymousreply 104April 27, 2021 5:23 PM

Hey! Alice Faye was a wonderful woman.

by Anonymousreply 105April 27, 2021 6:29 PM
But it's just fucking unbelievable, not to mention unpalatable, for that 30 year old to be porking a 74 year old.

Don't knock it till you porked it.

by Anonymousreply 106April 28, 2021 1:09 AM

Am i the only one tired of the M & G stuff? Also: has Meryl peaked?

by Anonymousreply 107April 28, 2021 1:21 AM

There was a rumor that Meryl started rumor that Glen had signed on to play Susa Boyle in a biopic, which Glen's spokesperson had to publicly deny. Honestly, she should probably consider it...

by Anonymousreply 108April 28, 2021 1:31 AM

Close should have won for Dangerous Liaisons. No other performance has come close

by Anonymousreply 109April 28, 2021 1:34 AM

G played Norma just a few years ago and it was totally believable. If anything her age adds to the part. Cast an older Joe. Jake G. or somebody and it will work. Betty is supposed to be repulsed by his affair with her anyway.

by Anonymousreply 110April 28, 2021 4:37 AM

Does Joe have to be a man in the musical version? Why not a Josephine who has an affair with Norma? Betty can be Ben instead.

by Anonymousreply 111April 28, 2021 5:44 AM

Rita Moreno played the part on the London stage when she was 70.

by Anonymousreply 112April 28, 2021 5:47 AM

On stage. With no close ups.

by Anonymousreply 113April 28, 2021 11:12 AM

Exactly, R113... there’s a helluva distance between sitting in a theatre and this thing called HD, come the triumphant streaming release because demand for a 75 year old with a modest voice... I can’t even begin to describe it.

This property has enough stacked against it without having to nail ‘A Shady Pines production of’ out front.

by Anonymousreply 114April 28, 2021 12:19 PM

If I soften the edges, I could probably dust off my Rizzo and play Betty.

Everybody bought that the first time.

by Anonymousreply 115April 28, 2021 12:22 PM

Nothing like a bunch of old queens to *insist* that America will be APPALLED at the age of the actress playing a washed-up actress. The truth: no one but a tiny subset of eldergays fucking cares whether the actress playing Norma is 50 or 75.

by Anonymousreply 116April 28, 2021 12:55 PM

No one except the reviewers, who will damn a mediocre, badly cast part and kill what little money this turkey could make.

Get over your evident Miss Close fixation. Even someone with your emotional needs must understand the basics of casting.

by Anonymousreply 117April 28, 2021 1:13 PM
...no one but a tiny subset of eldergays fucking cares whether the actress playing Norma is 50 or 75.

That's only partially correct, R116.

To the degree it is correct at all, it is because no one buy a tiny subset of eldergays would be able to identify the problem so that they could, in turn, care about it. The rest of the country will take one look and run, not really knowing why.

by Anonymousreply 118April 28, 2021 1:26 PM

Like the Academy.

by Anonymousreply 119April 28, 2021 1:31 PM

Well if it's true that she's hated in the profession, then she's getting the Bacall treatment. She'll get an honorary one...

by Anonymousreply 120April 28, 2021 3:19 PM

Glenn does NOT deserve an honorary Oscar. For what? Besides, even if she gets an honorary, that’s not a REAL Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 121April 28, 2021 3:37 PM

Don’t listen to her! I’ll take it!

by Anonymousreply 122April 28, 2021 3:49 PM

Do you suppose Glenn does resent Meryl, on the basis she thinks Meryl hogged the good parts?

by Anonymousreply 123April 28, 2021 3:50 PM

One of the reasons that Glenn hasn't won an Oscar is because she's a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 124April 28, 2021 4:08 PM

R84 thanks for ruining the ending

by Anonymousreply 125April 28, 2021 6:18 PM

Glenn hasn’t won an oscar because she’s not that good. She sucks.

by Anonymousreply 126April 28, 2021 6:18 PM
Her Norma will be old enough to have served her entire sentence of 25 years to life for murdering the young screenwriter.

Spoiler alert! You ruined it!

by Anonymousreply 127April 28, 2021 6:28 PM

R127, Bruce Willis is a ghost! And the kid sees him!

by Anonymousreply 128April 28, 2021 6:50 PM

Can he not sing either?

by Anonymousreply 129April 28, 2021 8:08 PM

Now I’m seeing Glenn’s strategy... win a Golden Globe and a Razzie.

Well, better than she’s got right now.

by Anonymousreply 130April 28, 2021 8:09 PM

Isn’t Close kind of like Hepburn.... most of her career she worked steadily but with basic indifference from the public. She just lasted long enough she became beloved in her twilight. Probably happen for Close too. If she just keeps working until her eighties she’ll get a Golden Pond or something where the Academy is like, we really better do this because she may not live much longer.

by Anonymousreply 131April 28, 2021 8:11 PM

Glenn would have been great in Nomadland

by Anonymousreply 132April 28, 2021 8:19 PM

She needs to revisit her role of Alex in Fatal Attraction. It turns out she survived the gun shot and became a reformed nun. She spends her time servicing the Lord and lecturing about her me too experiences in the 80s. On the 40th anniversary of her affair with Michael Douglas though it reawakens her sexual urges. What will win our? Her insatiable craving and need for cock or her dedication to the cross.

by Anonymousreply 133April 28, 2021 8:34 PM

R133 that really did make me laugh!

by Anonymousreply 134April 28, 2021 9:03 PM

Take some acting classes and get better.

by Anonymousreply 135April 28, 2021 9:07 PM

She should play The Queen.

Life after Phil.

by Anonymousreply 136April 28, 2021 9:12 PM

Yeah she's just like Kate the Great, minus the 4 academy awards,r131.

by Anonymousreply 137April 28, 2021 9:13 PM

She needs to play the Chinese patient zero of Covid who also whistleblowed to the world about the disease. Was he killed by Covid or did the government take him out? This unforgettable performance from Glenn will uncover the truth...

by Anonymousreply 138April 28, 2021 10:39 PM

She's perfect for The Jill Biden Story.

If there is a story.

by Anonymousreply 139April 28, 2021 11:01 PM

Meryl could win her 4th Oscar by starring in "The Glenn Close Story".

by Anonymousreply 140April 28, 2021 11:06 PM

R139 G won't be able to film the jogging scenes.

by Anonymousreply 141April 28, 2021 11:28 PM

Jill Biden is 50 million times more beautiful and fem than Glenn. Plus, you know Glenn will be pissed by the fact that she has Dr as a title

by Anonymousreply 142April 28, 2021 11:33 PM

The nomination for Hillbilly Elegy suggests the academy is ready to throw Glenn an Oscar for practically anything at this point. All it has to be is a not shitty movie that some of the academy is willing to watch.

by Anonymousreply 143April 28, 2021 11:38 PM

Do a remake of Baby Jane and torture Meryl.

by Anonymousreply 144April 29, 2021 12:27 AM

For their old movies they can have bits from Still of the Night and Maxie.

by Anonymousreply 145April 29, 2021 12:29 AM

Glenn can do it.

by Anonymousreply 146April 29, 2021 12:51 AM

Glenn looks more like Joe than Jill.

by Anonymousreply 147April 29, 2021 2:01 AM

oh please r114 Norma is supposed to be a strange looking gargoyle no matter what her age. Wigs, lighting stuff they did on The Irishman could all make Glenn look appropriate for the role.

Look at how she looks in her gold dress at the Oscars for The Wife. She could easily pass for 60ish.

by Anonymousreply 148April 29, 2021 4:48 AM

Gypsy.

Glenn can sing, right?

by Anonymousreply 149April 29, 2021 7:54 AM

I've got four Oscars and my beard has four Oscars. We have the generosity to give one to Glenn and shut this down.

by Anonymousreply 150April 29, 2021 8:59 AM

^Kate and Spenc-uher?

by Anonymousreply 151April 29, 2021 11:50 AM

Glenn deserves to have her Oscar presented in front of a full house at the Dolby Theater and not in a train station and the lowest rated Oscars in history.

by Anonymousreply 152April 29, 2021 12:31 PM

I saw Glen Close on Broadway in December 1978 in - A Crucifer Of Blood.

I was a kid but I've had the playbill ALL these years otherwise I would not have remembered that. She was an UNKNOWN in 1978.

by Anonymousreply 153April 29, 2021 1:18 PM

Is Glenn Close so special in this part that all the technology in existence must be pressed into service?

by Anonymousreply 154April 29, 2021 1:26 PM

Meryl should have won the dangerous liaisons year. Glenn never deserved an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 155April 29, 2021 1:57 PM

DaButt. DaButt.

by Anonymousreply 156April 29, 2021 3:30 PM
She has to do a Holocaust movie. It's the only way

A BLACK Holocaust movie! (Remember those diversity quotas!) THEN it will be in the bag.

by Anonymousreply 157April 29, 2021 3:53 PM

It depends on what kind of Oscar she wants. It would seem acting isn't going to happen. Maybe she could produce a meaningful documentary and sneak in that way. Though I might suggest an assumed name credit, in case all these years it actually has been personal.

by Anonymousreply 158April 29, 2021 4:10 PM

R155 is correct, Meryl was astonishing in "A Cry In The Dark"

by Anonymousreply 159April 29, 2021 5:23 PM

If she could somehow harness my ethereal empathy, maternal majesty, and misunderstood grief while playing me in my posthumous biopic: The Place Beyond the Pineapple?

She'll get that Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 160April 29, 2021 5:55 PM

The only role deemed Oscarworthy for someone her age is an elderly person suffering from Alzheimer's and nobody wants to see another film about it.

by Anonymousreply 161April 29, 2021 6:15 PM

Glenn Close is Martha in the Joint

by Anonymousreply 162April 29, 2021 6:15 PM

The ultimate scenario would be to have Glenn and Meryl cast together in a movie about the romance between Gertrude Stein and Alice B Toklas, both be nominated in the best actress category, and then Glenn takes the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 163April 29, 2021 6:22 PM

Like that's gonna happen!

by Anonymousreply 164April 29, 2021 6:24 PM

She’s gonna get an Emmy for shaking her fat ass on the Oscars.

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO BY TAYLOR JENKINS REID

“Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. She chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job. Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. As Evelyn’s story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.”

Close enough to Norma to spare us all more "singing."

by Anonymousreply 166April 29, 2021 6:29 PM

The short answer in these ridiculous times: not be white.

by Anonymousreply 167April 29, 2021 7:37 PM

Could she play Nancy Pelosi in a dramatisation of the storming of The Capitol?

by Anonymousreply 168April 29, 2021 10:47 PM

The role of Alice B Toklas in any future film is mine.

I've already played her once in a film nobody saw called Waiting for the Moon but a big budget Hollywood production would reward me with a second nomination and maybe the award itself.

by Anonymousreply 169April 30, 2021 2:38 AM

Glenn Close doesn't need a damn oscar. She's better than that stupid award. If she dies never having won it, she'll still be a motherfricking legend.

That said. If she does manage to win a competitive oscar, it will be such an epic Susan Lucci-at-the-Emmys moment. I'm talking five minute standing ovation, cheers and maybe a few tears. I imagine the similar will be true when Diane Warren wins.

by Anonymousreply 170April 30, 2021 3:01 AM

She should play Hillary in a film about election day 2016.

(although it may be too similar to Dangerous Liaisons.)

Yep. That's pretty much what it looked like r171. Took us until the next morning to get her sedated.

by Anonymousreply 172April 30, 2021 4:46 AM

Present three holes at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 173April 30, 2021 11:45 AM

R171 you made me lol

by Anonymousreply 174April 30, 2021 7:16 PM

I hate the idea that just because an actor hangs around long enough they're entitled to win awards. Just give Glenn an honorary Oscar and call it a day.

by Anonymousreply 175April 30, 2021 8:35 PM

But will Glenn call it a day?

by Anonymousreply 176May 1, 2021 12:59 AM

She just makes movies. Her last two nominations came from projects with little support or advertising from their studio. A lot of the Academy likes her (like Our Sally) but just not enough to push her over the top for a win.

I don't think she works thinking I got to find an Oscar project. She does a lot of small films that go nowhere.

by Anonymousreply 177May 1, 2021 4:24 AM

Poor G. She lost to a deserving Best Actress winner who couldn't win there so got a makeup award (Jess Lange), a woman wearing yellowface and making her eyes slanty who'd never really seemed like the male she was supposed to be and would be racial offensive today (Linda Hunt), an old British actress no one ever heard of in the US who never made many more movies and didn't even show up to accept the award (Peggy Ashcroft.) A pop singer whose career pretty much ended with the Oscar (Cher). Someone who thought they did a bad job in the film they won for (Jodie Foster.)

and more recently to the dreaded M and that horse woman who should have been in Supporting.

by Anonymousreply 184May 5, 2021 6:08 AM

r184 is an imposter.

M never uses a period after her name. She finds it redundant.

by Anonymousreply 185May 5, 2021 6:20 AM

Have M and her pal VD ever bumped uglies? Or are they both "dick only" ladies?

by Anonymousreply 186May 5, 2021 6:42 AM

She could play Pat Krenwinkle and Meryl as Leslie Van, played dead serious, not gory or sensationalistic..

by Anonymousreply 187May 5, 2021 6:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 189May 5, 2021 8:25 AM
Had she played Fern in Nomadland, I bet she would have won.

R3 I am sorry but I think you are wrong, Close can't play McDormand's Fern, if Close was cast, her version of Fern would be completely different, it would be "bitter" or at least bitter in the beginning, the same for Streep, Streep's Fern would be a "sad" case. McDormand has this earthy quality to blend in with other people, while Close and Streep tend to "standout" no matter what roles they play, sooner or later they will let you know "I am different here, not necessarily better than you, but I am different from everyone else in the room."

Also, Fern is a completely fictional character written by the director Chole Zhao, it's not in the book. Zhao created this role after watching how McDormand was able to interact and connect with the real people from the book and strangers on the road, that's why the role suits her so well., because it's partially modeled after McDormand. If Close or Streep was cast here, the story would be rewritten, it might be an entirely different movie.

by Anonymousreply 190May 5, 2021 9:37 AM

The Honorary is for LOSERS

by Anonymousreply 191May 5, 2021 10:40 AM

I think Close's difficulty, at least in her earlier work is she never gets subsumed by the character. I have always felt acutely aware I was watching Glenn Close. Everything about Glenn is harsh. The angles of her face, the precision of her (speaking) voice... she comes across hard (which is probably why she was so great as Patti Hughes or Cruella.) I never get a sense of her being able to have a genuine laugh at herself or playing warmth.

I haven't seen hillbilly grandmaw... maybe she disappears into that.

by Anonymousreply 192May 5, 2021 11:51 AM

Honorary Oscar is this bitch’s only hope. And that’s not even a ‘real’ oscar.

by Anonymousreply 193May 5, 2021 1:09 PM

Even the term Honorary Oscar is unbecoming... it is either honorary or an Oscar, never the twain shall meet. Oh, well, beggars can’t be choosers, I suppose... I wouldn’t know.

by Anonymousreply 194May 5, 2021 2:16 PM

Well... if she gets an Honorary Oscar, it will be an Oscar made just for her.

All of M's Oscars were already sitting there and going to go to someone. Might as well be M.

In any event, the "competitive" Oscar is just part of a big marketing event. Of no consequence.

The Honorary Oscar is more like the coveted Jean Hersholt Award. True recognition of one's contribution. Personal. Meaningful. Not like that trash they give away every year to generate publicity.

by Anonymousreply 195May 5, 2021 2:21 PM

Signed, G

by Anonymousreply 196May 5, 2021 2:47 PM

I wonder which color of metal G will wear for her pity- erm, honorary.

What color is tin? Or maybe rust.

by Anonymousreply 197May 5, 2021 5:00 PM

Do the real G & M ever come on data lounge to see this ongoing feud between them?

by Anonymousreply 198May 5, 2021 7:00 PM
I never get a sense of her being able to have a genuine laugh at herself or playing warmth.

She's very warm in The Natural and the TV movie "In the Gloaming"

by Anonymousreply 199May 5, 2021 7:10 PM

Sunset Boulevard, the Musical starring Glenn Close, Hugh Jackman, and Ben Kingsley as Max!

by Anonymousreply 200May 5, 2021 7:18 PM

She needs to focus on those great supporting roles. If you look at her choices over past 10 years, she has usually chosen lead/starring roles over and over in mediocre projects from directors lacking a track record for delivering Oscars. It's like she does the movies Meryl Streep turned down. Same for Annette Benning.

Hilbilly Elegy was practically designed to hand her an Oscar. Ron Howard directing, material supposedly of social importance, full immersion into makeup with a highly affected performance and accent. And it fit the supporting category. Plus Netflix distribution guaranteed a huge audience for a movie that wouldve been ignored in theaters. She also got paid $$ for it. And snagged a nomination despite the movie being a total dumpster fire. If it had merely been watchable, she would've won.

by Anonymousreply 201May 5, 2021 8:16 PM

Glenn Close could win 10 Supporting Actress Oscars and the bitches on this board would scream to high heaven that an Oscar doesn't count unless it is for Best Actress.

A statement from the Toronto Trans Collective
The Toronto Trans Collective continues its boycott against Glenn Close as an actor and the films, plays, tv series and audio books featuring Glenn Close following Glenn Close's decision to appear as a trans man in Albert Nobbs. Transface is as offensive as blackface although nowhere near as offensive as Asianface, as seen in Breakfast at Tiffany's and One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing because Asians are the cishets of racial minorities. The Toronto Trans Collective considers Clenn Glose's transface to be an act of extreme violence towards trans people and we reserve the right to campaign for whoever and whomever Glenn Close is nominated alongside in any future awards. Trans women are women.

by Anonymousreply 203May 5, 2021 8:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 204May 5, 2021 8:27 PM

She'll never win now that she's pissed off Big Trans.

by Anonymousreply 207May 5, 2021 10:58 PM

When will the Toronto Trans Collective cancel Babs for her drag act in Mentl and Gwynnie for hers in Shakespeare in Love? And Julie Andrews and Liza for Victor Victoria.

by Anonymousreply 208May 6, 2021 6:21 AM

I Don't Give A Fuck. there is no role where she has knocked it out of the park. She's a character actor and hasn't really been in a move that she dominated. Change my mind.

by Anonymousreply 209May 6, 2021 6:27 AM

r209 Fatal Attraction was a cultural phenomenon because of her

Dangerous Liasions was highly acclaimed and she was the star of it.

by Anonymousreply 210May 6, 2021 6:36 AM

Thirty-four and thirty-three years ago. Amazing.

by Anonymousreply 211May 6, 2021 11:14 AM

R210 I love Glenn, but Fatal Attraction would have been a cultural phenomenon with a handful of her peers playing the part. She was undeniably excellent in the role, but this was always going to be a hit.

by Anonymousreply 213May 8, 2021 7:30 AM

R213 Is she joking. She is way too old for the role now. Added to that Disney are rebooting the series with a much young Emma Stone.

Talk about desperate.

by Anonymousreply 214May 8, 2021 8:53 AM

For some, R214, one can never know they’ve reached rock bottom until they’ve plumbed deep below it. A lamentable situation, for all concerned. Pity.

by Anonymousreply 215May 8, 2021 9:12 AM

So Andrew's still using the new music line? Well, they always said he was repetitive.

by Anonymousreply 216May 8, 2021 11:44 AM

"We're very, very close. We're ready to go," the Hillbilly Elegy Oscar nominee continued, adding that Andrew Lloyd Webber is currently working on new music for the stage-to-screen translation

This feels to me like 'It's not madame they want, it's her car!'

by Anonymousreply 217May 8, 2021 12:09 PM

Shouldn't that be perennial Oscar nominee?

by Anonymousreply 218May 8, 2021 12:10 PM

ALW can keep fiddling with the music until Glenn's too old to be able to sing it.

All he has to do is throw in a few new high notes, call them essential to his vision of the piece, and La Close will be out on her ass. ALW is not a man upon whom a diva can depend.

by Anonymousreply 219May 8, 2021 12:16 PM

She is going to humiliate herself if she persists with this. She cannot sing it and the reviews will be horrible (the critics always like a go at ALW too... this thing has a bull's eye on it no matter how good it may be.) So she's planning to cap a career known for crazies and Oscar nominations with a version of Sextette for the 20s?

I never thought I'd feel sorry for Glenn Close but she seems to be living Norma, not playing her. I admit, I really like this show (which I know most people seem to think it is a clunker) and if it's going to be done (which is bizarre enough because I don't recall Norma Desmond as one of the Marvel Comics) give it to somebody who can sing a sung through.

by Anonymousreply 220May 8, 2021 1:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 226May 9, 2021 2:23 AM

She's too heavy, and blocky, and that short hair, ugh. She looks like a retired linebacker, not a retired screen star. She should play a retired military commander, going mad that she never made General.

by Anonymousreply 227May 10, 2021 12:12 PM

"Hillbilly Elegy" opens the door for Glenn to do a revival of the Ma and Pa Kettle series. With luck, that could keep her busy until her eventual demise.

Ma and Pa Kettle and the Arizona Recount

Ma and Pa Kettle Fight Climate Change

Ma and Pa Kettle Transition

Go for it, Glenn.
