Tasteful friends, Christine McConnell’s retro-goth cottage in Twin Peaks

The interiors are designed in McConnell’s whimsical-macabre aesthetic as seen in her canceled-too-soon Netflix series.

So quirky and over the top. I love it.

How can a house like that in California be so cheap? What's the catch?

by Anonymousreply 2April 24, 2021 3:46 PM

Isn't she trans?

by Anonymousreply 3April 24, 2021 3:51 PM

R2 it’s in the mountains north of San Bernardino

Strange set of pictures

by Anonymousreply 5April 24, 2021 4:09 PM

Baffles me it is 928 sqf. I lived in an 800 sqf 2 bed 1 bath, didn't even have a broom closet. There's a lot packed into this 928 sqf.

by Anonymousreply 6April 24, 2021 4:19 PM

That's a great price for the house. Very charming...though a little too Victorian for me...but in keeping with the age and character of the house.

by Anonymousreply 7April 24, 2021 4:22 PM

Better lighting should have been used for some photos. Too dark.

by Anonymousreply 8April 24, 2021 4:23 PM

I want to throw up.

Did they leave off some zeroes?

by Anonymousreply 9April 24, 2021 4:25 PM

I love the outside and would stay there all day. Too dark and stuffy indoors.

by Anonymousreply 10April 24, 2021 4:26 PM

Inventive and unique - the exterior is lovely. The inside looks a bit like a film set for a surprisingly disturbing 1980s kids' movie featuring something non-CGI that lives in the ceiling. That said, I really like it, as I love those kinds of movies. Switch a few features and fixtures, rethink the stairwell, get rid of the tarantula on the bedroom wall and I'd be quite happy with it.

Oh—THAT Twin Peaks.

by Anonymousreply 12April 24, 2021 4:41 PM

I confess I initially through it meant the San Francisco neighborhood too.

What is Twin Peaks (southern CA) like? It looks beautiful in pictures. Rednecky? Black Lodgey? Stuffed to the gills with twats?

by Anonymousreply 13April 24, 2021 4:53 PM

It smells like lavender

by Anonymousreply 14April 24, 2021 4:59 PM

I'm surprised it hasn't sold already- it has been 16 hours!

I live in a shit rural town, not eve in CA, and houses with less charm are selling for more than that. With no views, but access to 12 churches and a Walmart!

by Anonymousreply 15April 24, 2021 5:05 PM

I’d suck every dick in a casino for that house.

by Anonymousreply 16April 24, 2021 5:05 PM

Let's see...with the currently worsening drought conditions in CA, and the quickly-approaching wild fire season, which is predicted to begin even earlier than previous years, would I really want to live in an ancient, wood-framed and sided house on a hill in the middle of a forest with no fire barriers in sight? The asking price is no bargain for a home that could easily go up in smoke. And its heinous, also.

by Anonymousreply 17April 24, 2021 5:21 PM

Its heinous what, R17?

by Anonymousreply 18April 24, 2021 5:34 PM

That kitchen is giving me life!

by Anonymousreply 19April 24, 2021 5:53 PM

Good points, R17. Also, the house's decoration looks less "sophisticated Goth chic" than "overfussy hoarding granny". Still, it's also true that she has managed to make everything work, even if it is mostly too dark and overwhelmingly maximalistic.

I do like the master bedroom and the outside is beyond lovely, though. It's only too bad that it is vulnerable to wildfires, as R17 mentions.

by Anonymousreply 20April 24, 2021 5:54 PM

Based on the first picture, I fully expected to like this place, but unfortunately, it gives me the creeps. Much too dark, which may simply reflect the lighting selections, but all the over-the-top Victoriana cutesiness makes it feel somehow claustrophobic and sinister.

And there's no way I could live with that "frilly" kitchen. Makes my skin crawl; I don't even know exactly why.

by Anonymousreply 21April 24, 2021 8:19 PM

Love the pale blue room with the corpse/body form, love the white bathroom with the pretty tub. Those rooms must be tiny though.
