Cruising in the Rambles, NYC

Has it changed over the years?

“Where to queer” sounds like “stop the steal.”

by Anonymousreply 1April 24, 2021 3:50 PM

Last night there were at least 100 people having sex/watching in one popular area. It was the largest gathering of whores I've seen in 40 years of Rambling.

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2021 2:39 PM

The Ramble was my rite of passage in the early 90s. I didn't do the al fresco hook-up thing too much, but I met a ton of hot guys and went home with most of them.

Some of the guys I met: one of the big Armani models from the 90s, the CEO of Pierre Cardin, a married movie producer, a rabbi, a totally hot super-butch cop, a lawyer for Goldman Sachs, a now very famous actor (plays straight, is married with kids), to name just a few. It was crazy back then. I remember going down one of those paths in the reeds and stumbling upon a twenty person circle jerk.

There's no way it's still like that, I'm sure.

Really R2 ?!? I thought the Rambles was dead - like all public cruising in NYC. It would be so encouraging to hear its being revived.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2021 3:09 PM

Interesting read from 1978. Poor old closeted Dick Button.

I've never done it, but I hear people do still go cruising in the ramble. It's not dead. Though I have hard time believe r2 that there were 100 people on a Wednesday night.

^ I've seen a few large crowds on nice days recently and yesterday was the hottest day since Sept. 8. so the boys were out in force. I actually thought it must have been a Instameetupgramtok that the kids are doing these days but then I realized they were just common whores.

And I was there late, AFTER a downpour that sent a lot of people running for the subways. I was shocked at how many people there were.

One idiot was dressed in full leather, ass out and wearing a dog mask. He had a hot body but everyone ignored him for looking like a moron. He would have had better luck if he was crawling on all fours. I was going to suggest it but I didn't want to lead him on!

Why so many of us shudder when we hear, or read, the word "queer" being bandied about the way some of you insist upon doing. "Reclaimed," my ass!

[quote]“They jumped me, three kids,” he told me. “Twenty, twenty-five, maybe, not older. I couldn’t tell, they jumped me as I was just stepping out on the Bridle Path. I offered money. Just don’t hurt me, I said. ‘Man, we don’t want your money, you faggot,’ they said. ‘It’s probably just as queer as you are.’ Then they started kicking me. I passed out for a minute. When I came to, they were prancing arm in arm down the road, singing: ‘We killed a faggot, we killed a faggot.’ They were laughing.” [quote] “They knew exactly what they were looking for—’queers,’ ” says sex researcher Dr. John Money of those responsible for the Ramble gay bashing.

[quote] “I had a patient with a history of queer baiting.

[quote] The very fact that our laws make homosexuality a crime validates the idea that ‘queers’ are animals.

I know 2 people in the 90s who were attacked/robbed in separate incidents there. Sounds potentially dangerous to me especially with the random violence occurring in broad daylight in NYC now.

Speaking of NY crusing, looks like the Cock will be moving go the LES.

Just happy to hear they are planning on reopening.

That mag is 2008. Pre cell phone, GPS, pre restoration of the Ramble. It's nothing like it used to be, overgrown and neglected. Now It's safe, fenced in, well- lit, paved and you could walk the perimeter with your mother and she wouldn't know there was sex happening 50 yards away. It's gorgeous. Belvedere Castle's been restored and you can walk over to Cleopatra's Needle if you're not in the mood for dick.

The bird sanctuary in the middle is kept dark, that's where the action is.

Safety Tip: Homeless people have large backpacks. Also, cruising is a mostly solitary activity, never approach a trio or group unless their dicks are out.

R2 Is delusional or just an idiot.

Even in best of times there never were "at least 100 " gay men having sex at Rambles, and surely wouldn't be so today.

Central Park hasn't fully leafed out yet so such an event would easily be seen from both inside park and or from those in apartments high enough along CPW. In any event LE patrols would have caught such a thing and just to make guys's lives miserable would have issued tickets and named names via NYPD press office. NY Post would have had a field day with such headlines.

Do people still have outdoor sex in CP? Sure, gays and straights, especially some younger people that don't have any place else to go (too cheap or cannot rent a room I suppose), but no, large outdoor orgies ain't happening.

R3 And you believed what they told you? By the way I'm CEO of Sony Pictures! Sue, Jan!

From time to time, my friend still goes rambling. He said it’s not like it was. He also likes the car hook ups @ 91st & river side park. It’s near the tennis courts. Never did the rambles but went to 91st once. He was bold & approached the guys sitting in the cars , got in with them, did their thing. I stood around & was cruised but didn’t have the nerve to do anything. This was the late 90’s. I really wanted to try it but am too vanilla.

r14 is a know-nothing cunt. STFU and go see for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 17April 29, 2021 6:32 PM

r2. It rained fairly hard last night. Where were the 100 people ?

by Anonymousreply 18April 29, 2021 6:41 PM

R17

Get over yourself gramps! Live one block from CP, and unlike yourself don't need to troll bushes and weeds for sex.

A gathering of 100 people in any part of CP much less the Rambles would be noticed.

by Anonymousreply 19April 29, 2021 6:45 PM

As I said, it was the biggest crowd I've seen in 40 years. I do know what I'm talking about. I got there late, after the storm. When I got off the subway at 81st there were a bunch of wet guys who obviously got caught in the cloudburst. That's why I was shocked to see so many people, a subway car full of men in one spot. But I'm sure all of you who weren't there know best.

by Anonymousreply 20April 29, 2021 6:47 PM

I found it hard to believe as well, but seems a random thing to lie about. Why bother?

by Anonymousreply 21April 29, 2021 6:51 PM

Where, in CP, is this.? What’s the best way to access it?

by Anonymousreply 22April 29, 2021 6:53 PM

I thought I was being nice to share such juicy info. Think about it, many of us have worn masks and waited a YEAR to have sex. Yesterday, the hottest day since Sept last year, is it any wonder that every horny guy had the same idea?? We got the news that NYC is open JULY 1, we're vaccinated, and ready to go. Of course, police won't let this continue but it did happen last night. Go see for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 23April 29, 2021 7:02 PM

Actually, R13, the article is from the July 24, 1978, issue of New York Magazine.

"We got the news that NYC is open JULY 1"

Can you imagine the volume of jizz that will be dumped in all the freshly re-opened steam rooms on 7/1? *squish* *splat* *squirt*

by Anonymousreply 25April 29, 2021 7:07 PM

It was very nice of you r23. It will be appreciated by some and scoffed at by others. Why do you care? Just go back tonight and get fucked ( I’m assuming you’re a bottom...you post as if you are).

by Anonymousreply 26April 29, 2021 7:10 PM

Oy vey, I wish people would at least try to be clever.

by Anonymousreply 27April 29, 2021 7:32 PM

Most New Yorkers use GrindR or other on line hook up sites. bath houses and the Ramble seem out of date.
