Well?
Can you tell the difference between Baby Boomers and Gen X?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 28, 2021 7:12 AM |
Sort of.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 23, 2021 12:39 PM |
nope
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 23, 2021 12:42 PM |
There is no difference.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 23, 2021 12:45 PM |
What is the obsession with generations on this website?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 23, 2021 12:46 PM |
Old vs not as old
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 23, 2021 12:53 PM |
I was thinking it had to do with narcissism and Peter Pan syndrome.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 23, 2021 12:55 PM |
What's the big difference?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 23, 2021 1:01 PM |
I am Gen-X, so yes.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 23, 2021 1:06 PM |
Definitely, huge difference. Gen X has hated the Boomers since forever, the rest of the world had finally caught on.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 23, 2021 1:07 PM |
R9 Well put.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 23, 2021 1:09 PM |
I prefer not to 'label' people. But, when I see the term Gen X used, it's most often used as an excuse for something.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 23, 2021 1:11 PM |
I'm a GenXer and we got sandwiched between two of the most selfish, self-important look at me generations ever. But, Boomers are the absolute worst in almost every single way and they continue to be huge problems.
I do find it troubling that some of the craziest QAnon people and MAGAs are GenXers, but I'm hoping they are just some weird anomaly.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 23, 2021 1:16 PM |
Yes.
But I don't think they're similar at all. They're both assholes in two completely different ways though.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 23, 2021 1:19 PM |
[quote] Gen X has hated the Boomers since forever,
Disagree, as a gen x.
Actually one way to tell is, a lot of gen x are right wingers, having come up in the 80s, during Reagan. Boomers were the hippies and tend to be liberals.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 23, 2021 1:24 PM |
Like at least everyone knows Boomers are assholes and they own it and don't try to hide it.
Gen X pretend they're not assholes and like their shit don't stink.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 23, 2021 1:25 PM |
R14 Have you been paying attention at all?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 23, 2021 1:26 PM |
What's between Boomer and generation X. I'm a betweener and don't feel like either.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 23, 2021 1:54 PM |
Boomers in particular come in many flavors and it's telling that the usual definition actually refers to the small set of upper middle class Boomers.
Broadly, you had one group that served in Vietnam, got married while still in their early 20s, were never hippies, settled down in blue collar jobs and are now the grandparents of adults.
You had another, smaller group, albeit the one that everyone focuses on, that were hippies and went to college in the 60s, were young singles in the 70s, yuppies in the 80s, helicopter parents in the 90s and in 2021 are the grandparents of toddlers.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 23, 2021 1:59 PM |
[quote] Can you tell the difference between Baby Boomers and Gen X?
They both think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 23, 2021 2:03 PM |
Millenials can't dance and won't
GenZ love to do the TikTok dance craze of the moment

[quote] [R14] Have you been paying attention at all?
I typically pay attention to things I consider important. Use your words and maybe we can get a little more specific? Good girl!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 23, 2021 2:04 PM |
Whatever.
There. There's your difference between the two. Both generations are long dead in gay years anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 23, 2021 2:06 PM |
[quote] What's between Boomer and generation X. I'm a betweener and don't feel like either.
Why not?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 23, 2021 2:11 PM |
R22 You must find Family Ties important based on your take on the generations at r14
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 23, 2021 2:25 PM |
Yes and I obviously ignored the polls from 2020, r25, which showed Biden winning every age group except Gen X. I just relied on Family Ties. Well spotted.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 23, 2021 2:27 PM |
Can you tell the difference between a 75-year-old and a 45-year-old, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 23, 2021 2:31 PM |
Oh well, whatever, never mind.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 23, 2021 2:36 PM |
Gen X are cooler than anyone else. They're the only generation who grew up in the post-60s world while also having the same childhood freedoms of previous generations, so they combine the liberal tendency of millennials with the self-reliance of boomers.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 23, 2021 2:42 PM |
R26 So you don’t ignore polls but think Boomers tend to be liberals?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 23, 2021 2:56 PM |
Boomers, especially the fossilized, vainglorious politicians, refuse to step aside or get off the fucking stage already. GenX are lurking on the sidelines, cynical, watching the generational battles play out, sometimes steeping themselves in nostalgic music or tv shows and movies to pass the time.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 23, 2021 3:17 PM |
Wish I could find the fascinating article separating the generations into the greater astrological cycles. Boomers are those generations born with Pluto (the planet of power, manipulation, authoritarianism, intensity) in Leo (forever claiming to be stars of the show regardless of extenuating circumstances). GenX can be the Pluto in Virgo generations and are usually hypercritical of and cynical of the power status quo and everything that has been wrought because of it, and are usually interested in pursuing alternative medicine and health regimes (yoga, veganism, acupuncture, etc.). Pluto in Libra GenX are more self-centered (many of the worst types of Millennials fall into this generational cycle). They just do what they can to accommodate the Boomers and their rules, blending in, confoming so their lives run as smoothly as possible even while chaos rumbles around them. They don't want to get involved especially if the status quo is positively impacting their bank accounts and finances. Later Millennials and early GenZ are the Pluto in Scorpio generations who fight the power from the shadows or anonymously. Pluto in Sagittarius Gen Z are the in-your-face, fuck you, I'll be and do whatever and whoever I want and I don't care if it horrifies you. I'll express whatever gender I want to without your permission. The Pluto in Scorpio and Pluto in Sag generations are the hope for us all, except for the Boomers who are terrified by them, and with good cause. Fuck the Boomers.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 23, 2021 3:31 PM |
r14 is wrong and r19 is correct.
For every Boomer who was a hippie and liberal, there were 1000 Boomers in small towns who did exactly what was expected of them and never participated in the culture of the 60s and 70s. The former group of Boomers are the ones that have always had the spotlight on them, but the latter group of Boomers are much, much more numerous in numbers.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 23, 2021 3:43 PM |
R34 - yes, this is true. The latter group of Boomers would exhibit more GenX characteristics. Forgot to add that in my astro cycle post above.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 23, 2021 3:51 PM |
[quote] [R26] So you don’t ignore polls but think Boomers tend to be liberals?
Care to explain why Gen X was the only generation that Trump led with in 2020, I mean, as opposed to asking sneery cryptic questions, because you don’t have the intellectual ammo to just clearly state your point?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 23, 2021 3:51 PM |
I'm a mid-Boomer and think you have some good points, R32, except the Boomer-hate. It's true even as a teen I was disgusted (I'm a Virgo) with my confreres loud, noisy, poseur attitudes. But I also knew a lot of sincere anti-war protestors/activists and many, many of my generation chose socially responsible careers in the arts and service--i.e. law, education, social work. Did we fail? Yes, as all generations fail. But if you hate Boomers so much, stop wearing what you want and adopt the 50s dress code for men and women, stop going to natural grocery stores, stop smoking marijuana, stop living with your partner before marriage. Shall I go on? All the Boomer haters are just jealous of a rather glamorous (Leo) and big-hearted (Leo) and creative (Leo) and brave (Leo) generation. Don't make us sorry we paved the way for you bastards.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 23, 2021 3:55 PM |
R34 is the type of poster who advances her prejudices as facts.
Here’s a fact. It’s not a fact I like, because I’m gen x, but I’m also not a fantasist.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 23, 2021 4:00 PM |
My post at r30 isn’t cryptic or sneering at all. I’m bewildered that you describe Boomers as Liberals, especially on a gay site.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 23, 2021 4:38 PM |
Of course Boomers and Gen Xers can tell. Younger people may be clueless, however.
I got into a DM argument with an XBox Live player who screwed over our team. He responded with, “OK Boomer,” as if Boomers ever played video games.
There were no pics of our faces in our profiles. But my avatar depicts Jason of Friday the 13th fame, who Boomers also never watched.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 23, 2021 4:50 PM |
R38, you might want to read the article first. It is written by a conservative Gen Xer suggesting that his generation will go conservative. His evidence:
[quote] In the Morning Consult survey, for instance, Joe Biden has led consistently with baby boomers since the spring, while Generation X is the only generation with whom Trump occasionally pulls into a tie.
The Morning Consult poll actually shows Biden leading 49 to 47 in what Douthat asserts to be Gen X, but the poll actually defines as 45 to 64. You have to cut out the younger Xers and add the younger Boomers to make the math work for this kind of argument.

[quote] Here’s a fact.
Then posts a link to an Opinion Piece with a title literally ending with a question mark.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 23, 2021 5:25 PM |
R37 - I don't hate the Boomers, generally. I hate those in that generation that are stubborning (and to the detriment of progress) clinging to power (political power, and others, like business power. How many CEOS refuse to step aside or allow in non-traditional models in the employment landscape, such as their narrow-minded resistance to remote working by insisting on cubicle farms and offices, to name but one example. Many Boomers, even the more liberal anti-war originals have an over-reliance (based on sentimentality or perhaps nostalgia) on traditions. I assume this is because traditions are comfortable and comforting in the face of the world's massive changes since the industrial age. I adore GenZ, however. As some Boomers would say: The kids are all right."
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 23, 2021 6:18 PM |
"stubbornly" not stubborning...
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 23, 2021 6:18 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 23, 2021 6:20 PM |
Gen X- walkers
Baby Boomers- wheelchairs
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 23, 2021 6:26 PM |
I think all generations think the one that came before is “conservative.”
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 23, 2021 6:48 PM |
They're literally the parents and their kids how can't you not tell apart someone in their mid 70s/ early 80s from their kids in their late 40s and early 50s? What a ridiculous question.
The only generations that are hard to pin down are the cusp generations, like the micro generation of xennials, which holds all in common with millennials but still keeps some recollections that are also of gen X.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 23, 2021 6:54 PM |
Baby Boomers are Annie Hall (and later the First Wives Club), Gen X is Carrie Bradshaw (cue the snarling outrage of all the GenXers on this thread), Millennials are Lena Dunham’s Hannah from Girls. I’m not sure if Gen Z has an equivalent yet.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 23, 2021 6:55 PM |
R48 The oldest Boomers will be 75 this year. Older than that aren't Baby Boomers, rather the "Silent Generation" (my mother is part of this group.)
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 23, 2021 7:03 PM |
r38 what I wrote is undeniably correct.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 23, 2021 7:06 PM |
Get fucked, Bootsy Gumdrop. For every Boomer who was a hippie there were many more who were not and did everything they were supposed to do. That is fact. Sorry it doesn't fit your narrative.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 23, 2021 7:31 PM |
The boomers had better music then Gen X. They gave us the Beatles, man. Huge contributions to rock. Now the X-er offsprings, the Millenial-zoomers have music that sounds like nothing but one old useless kid's drum machine. Ti-Ti-Ti-Ti-Ti-Ti-Ti-Ti. That's all I hear.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 23, 2021 7:34 PM |
Gen X takes being right wing for granted.

Are you a retard? Gen X dominated the 90s radio with alternative rock, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 23, 2021 7:54 PM |
The Boomers like each other (or think they do)
Gen Xers hate each other and pretty much everyone else.
Millennials are a return to the chirpy feel-good status quo.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 23, 2021 8:02 PM |
Some psychotic younger people are praying for circumstances that Boomer audiences got to see with "Zardoz" and "Logan's Run". They won't be happy until everybody 5 years or older than them is either killed off or in a mental institution.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 23, 2021 8:15 PM |
Gen Xer here who can appreciate the Beatles for their talent, but personally I've never cared much for their music.
Now the Rolling Stones are a whole different story. LOVE them.
