Do you still shower? 🚿🧼

People used to shower all the time pre-pandemic because we had to. It was the polite thing to do if you’re going to be working at an office. But with the pandemic, we’ve all been showering less, if at all. No longer is there a need since we’re all just working from home.

As showering habits have changed in the lockdown, scientists have noted the environmental and physical benefits of not showering. We’ve all been showering less in lockdown and it might be making us cleaner. Showering less might be better for you.

Bullshit story.

by Anonymousreply 1April 23, 2021 9:31 AM

In the year since the pandemic took hold in Britain, we have been both washing more – our hands, at least – and probably washing the rest of us less. In February a YouGov survey found 17% of Brits were showering less often than before (although 10% were showering more), while nearly a third said they were less likely to put clean clothes on, and a quarter were washing their hair less frequently. Sales of deodorant are in decline – according to figures from the retail analysts Mintel, 28% of people have been using less. For younger people, this is even more marked – 45% of generation Z and 40% of millennials are dodging deodorant. A survey for GSK Consumer Health found only 9% of people had improved their oral health routine, despite snacking a lot more; 5% said it had declined. We have become the great unwashed.

Working from home, shielding, not socialising or just losing the will to blow-dry appear to have had many of us questioning whether our pre-pandemic personal hygiene and grooming habits were really necessary. And, with routines disrupted, it is perfectly possible to get to the end of the day before wondering if you have brushed your teeth. Or putting off your morning shower until you have done some lunchtime exercise, and then not bothering to do that either.

Yes, I still shower, but sometimes not everyday. But even when I do shower, I had been shaving very infrequently sometimes once or maybe twice a week. More recently, I have grown facial hair. I don't know if you call it a beard, but it's more than just stubble. I was seeing so few people and going to the grocery store with a mask, so shaving became quite unimportant. Surprisingly, my facial hair requires a fair amount of maintenance, which wasn't the point of growing it, but I do like to keep it presentable even if it's only me looking at it.

by Anonymousreply 3April 23, 2021 10:27 AM

Lots of stank crotch

by Anonymousreply 4April 23, 2021 10:32 AM

Ill grow the beard until it is more trouble to maintain it I had already dropped deodorant for the most part. I keep some in the locker at the gym and a stick at home I rarely use. NEVER use antiperspirant.

by Anonymousreply 5April 23, 2021 10:44 AM

Yes, mostly but not always, and only the, uh, dirty bits. I'm also in a cold climate so happy to take a pass when it's freezing af.

by Anonymousreply 6April 23, 2021 10:54 AM

Yes, not everyday now only twice a week I do wash my face crotch and feet everyday. This is better since my skin doesn't dry out during the cold weather.

by Anonymousreply 7April 23, 2021 12:08 PM

I shower on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday nights. I'm in the house by myself the majority of the time. If I go into the office, I will shower that night, even if it's not one of my usual nights. If I work out and sweat, I will shower. Otherwise, I don't see a reason to shower every day. I'm sitting on my ass, responding to emails and taking phone calls. I'm not a lumberjack or steel worker!

Now, Summer will be a different story. When it gets hot, muggy, and sticky and I do sweat more, I'll shower more often. Plus, nothing feels better than a cool shower on a hot and humid night.

by Anonymousreply 8April 23, 2021 12:22 PM

Everyone knows who isn’t showering

by Anonymousreply 9April 23, 2021 12:28 PM
my face crotch

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 10April 23, 2021 12:32 PM

I go for a 4 mile walk every day so yes.

by Anonymousreply 11April 23, 2021 12:37 PM

Pre-Covid, I had thought that as I had gotten older, I no longer had underarm smell. Now that I go for weeks at a time without showering, the underarm stench is so overpowering that I think it might turn my stomach. Ten times worse than any homeless person. My concern is that I’m not sure I can get sufficiently clean again.

Cold weather has been nice, because I can encapsulate myself in a zipped-up jacket if I have to go inside somewhere. I’ve been doing mainly curbside pickup and home delivery to avoid the smell problem.

by Anonymousreply 12April 23, 2021 12:51 PM

Everyone please note that when you are out and about, DO NOT use air hand dryers in public toilets. They create vast aerosols and spray bacteria and viruses everywhere. Warning from a doctor.

by Anonymousreply 13April 23, 2021 12:53 PM

I still take a shower every day, even though I retired a year ago.

Without putting too fine a point on it, I like a clean ass, and as long as I'm going to be cleaning that part, I might as well jump in the shower and take care of everything else. A long, steamy shower opens up my sinuses as well.

I bought some silly, overpriced shower gel that I liked when I used it in a hotel, and to he honest, now that I'm not working, what else do I have to do?

Daily showers have become weekly or bi-weekly showers. Will become monthly in cold weather.

by Anonymousreply 15April 23, 2021 2:04 PM

I love taking a daily shower. I do it for me. Also I work out most days and get grimy from garden work.

You need to wash your clothes and bed linen much less if you maintain a clean body.

I have found that I have stopped using deo and fragrance because I dont have to get close to people at work.

by Anonymousreply 16April 23, 2021 2:39 PM

Article from the UK, it figures, no telling what that stank sleeve is like either. Poor things can hardly afford water, Brexit is taking its toll I guess, pity.

by Anonymousreply 17April 23, 2021 2:58 PM
You need to wash your clothes and bed linen much less if you maintain a clean body.

I don’t know if that is true or not, but you definitely don’t need to wash clothes and bed linen as frequently if you shower less often, since it won’t make any difference. I’ve been wearing a shirt and underwear for a week at a time, and only put on pants if going outside.

by Anonymousreply 18April 23, 2021 3:06 PM

I shower every day. Not more than 5 minutes at a time. Quick in. Quick out. Just soap and rinse. Special attention to head, face, ears, pits, crotch, and feet. I might do a more major scrubbing every few weeks.

by Anonymousreply 19April 23, 2021 3:12 PM

Yes, daily, even if I'm working from home. I have found it's nice to keep a routine while the world has been so out of sorts.

by Anonymousreply 20April 23, 2021 3:16 PM

409 is the new “it” cologne for the modern man who’s never on the go.

by Anonymousreply 21April 23, 2021 3:50 PM

I still like having sex with my husband, so I bathe daily.

If I were single, working at home and social distancing, I would not bathe daily. I would be disgusting and not care.

by Anonymousreply 22April 23, 2021 4:02 PM

I have made a solemn promise that I will shower when Eurydice Colette Clytemnestra Dido Bathsheba Rabelais Patricia Cocteau Stone eats.

by Anonymousreply 23April 23, 2021 4:06 PM

A daily morning shower is part of my ritual, and I have not deviated. It makes me feel good physically and psychologically.

by Anonymousreply 24April 23, 2021 4:07 PM

Daily shower and shower before sex. I'm with 3 other roommates and we fuck so...............

by Anonymousreply 25April 23, 2021 5:46 PM

Every other day...sometimes I put on makeup and stuff.

by Anonymousreply 26April 23, 2021 8:03 PM

Why would anyone want to see around filthy? Gross.

by Anonymousreply 27April 23, 2021 8:05 PM
Daily shower and shower before sex. I'm with 3 other roommates and we fuck so...............

You fuck them?

by Anonymousreply 28April 23, 2021 8:06 PM

I shower every day but don’t always wash my hair. I shave on Mondays and if I have an important Zoom call. I will wear the same clothes (not socks or underwear that is changed daily) 3 or 4 days in a row unless I spill something on them. I often forget to brush my teeth in the morning but usually remember at some point. Pre-COVID I was fastidious about hygiene and grooming.

by Anonymousreply 29April 23, 2021 8:31 PM

You can’t smell stanky people if you’re wearing a facemask. And they can’t see if you’ve got beard stubble

by Anonymousreply 30April 23, 2021 8:35 PM

So many of you are fucking disgusting. I have taken a shower twice a day since I was in elementary school. What the actual fuck with only showering a few times a week (or a month?)

by Anonymousreply 31April 23, 2021 8:37 PM

OP, please don't confuse the general populace with you and your fellow shack-squatters.

By the way, you stink.

by Anonymousreply 32April 23, 2021 8:39 PM

I shower twice a day no matter what. I can't leave my house in the morning without a shower and I can't get into bed at night without a shower.

On the rare occasions I've gone a whole day without showering (for various reasons) I feel like a disgusting garbage pile and I cannot stand it.

by Anonymousreply 33April 23, 2021 8:41 PM

I’ve found hot showers are very soothing during the pandemic.

by Anonymousreply 34April 23, 2021 8:41 PM

I know I don't get dirty enough to need a daily shower, but I have to do it for psychological reasons. I can't stand feeling "not clean" even if I am clean. I could never shower only once or twice a week. WTF is wrong with some of you? That is just nasty.

by Anonymousreply 35April 23, 2021 8:51 PM

I only shower now every few days, or after the gym, but it's quite the ritual.

Firstly, if I'm going to shower it will be in the morning. As a result, I brush my teeth and follow-up with mouthwash in the shower. Then I move on to shampooing my hair and use one of those scalp massagers to invigorate the follicles and wake me up. Next, I do a preliminary dousing of my entire body with micellar water to gently cleanse the skin and prepare my body for what is to come. I then apply exfoliating agents to my face and body, and I go to work with a great scrub brush all over. Next, I spread moisturizing body soap all over my body, clean every crevice, then rinse off. Once I am done, I dry off and apply a vitamin rich moisturizer and shea butter to my skin.

I come out squeaky clean and I feel luxurious for the rest of the day!

by Anonymousreply 36April 23, 2021 8:51 PM

OP, I can smell you from here.

by Anonymousreply 37April 23, 2021 8:51 PM

OP. you have no choice. You have to move to France.

by Anonymousreply 38April 23, 2021 8:57 PM

A nice wake up shower in the morning is a wonderful thing. One of life's pleasure. I start off every day with a shower.

And during the summer I also love another shower before dinner.

by Anonymousreply 39April 23, 2021 8:57 PM

Once or twice a day for me. I like feeling clean after a shower and I love being in the shower with hot water all over me. Feels so good. I wash my hair every day, too because if I don't it gets oily and gross. Since the pandemic, I don't bother to blow dry my hair unless I'm going out.

The people who don't shower every day are gross as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 40April 23, 2021 9:05 PM

The subject of some DLers' questionable hygiene habits comes up again....

by Anonymousreply 41April 23, 2021 9:12 PM

I lift nearly every day and my pits annoy me so I shower.

by Anonymousreply 42April 23, 2021 9:13 PM

Not showering makes me feel depressed. So I shower. I have gone 3 days without a shower a few times this last year but it seems to have coincided with feeling low.

by Anonymousreply 43April 23, 2021 9:22 PM

I take a bath everyday.

by Anonymousreply 44April 23, 2021 9:25 PM

If you’re not rolling around in dirt and not engaging in dirty maintenance work, then you’re not “filthy” if going without showering for an extended period of time. The only problem is the invisible stench that clings to the body, but you can easily become nose blind to that, so you don’t necessarily feel any sense of uncleanliness.

by Anonymousreply 45April 23, 2021 9:32 PM

I bathe every night - I don't like getting into bed dirty. I don't know how people who wash in the morning do it.

But, my hair. I look dreadful without professional care.

by Anonymousreply 46April 23, 2021 10:09 PM

Yuck! What is wrong with people? Lockdown or not, take a damn shower. Someone in that Guardian article copped to showering once a month! Taking a shower has nothing to do with seeing or not seeing other people. If no one comes to your house do you just not bother to clean it? Showering takes five minutes. Lazy slobs just finding a reason to come out of the shadows. Lockdown or not, friends, family, lovers, co-workers or not, wash your ass!

by Anonymousreply 47April 23, 2021 11:42 PM

I'd like to hear more from R25.

by Anonymousreply 48April 23, 2021 11:44 PM

I had a bi roommate once. He was mostly into girls, but if he was horny enough he'd knock on my bedroom door and we'd get it on. Versatile and a great dirty talker during sex. It was some of the hottest sex I've ever had.

by Anonymousreply 49April 23, 2021 11:56 PM

No.

Nobody showers anymore, OP

by Anonymousreply 50April 23, 2021 11:59 PM

Thought not.

by Anonymousreply 51April 24, 2021 12:26 AM

I only, wash and/or condition my hair once or twice a week but I shower every single day. I have had situationally depressive periods where I was probably going to wind up suicidal if things didn't turn around but no one ever suspected because I never looked that depressed because I showered every day. If you don't groom, people ask questions has been an ongoing motto in my life. why stop now?

by Anonymousreply 52April 24, 2021 12:51 AM

Beyond the smell, how do you all stand feeling oily and grimy?

by Anonymousreply 53April 24, 2021 1:36 AM

I can only imagine what my ass and crotch would feel like after several days without showering. Gross!

by Anonymousreply 54April 24, 2021 1:37 AM

These people who don't shower must not feel themselves and they certainly aren't being felt by anyone else, R54.

by Anonymousreply 55April 24, 2021 1:40 AM

I'm still going to work as usual, so I've increased bathing to twice a day and wash all my clothes daily (except PJ's and coats).

by Anonymousreply 56April 24, 2021 1:50 AM

I have maintained my shower and self care routines. Shower almost every day, shampoo every other day. I exercise outdoors, so need to bathe regularly.

Wash under arms, groin, ass with Au Lait Milk scottish soap bar. Then use loofah and body gel. After shower, moisturize body, face. I have several products I rotate.

Once a week pedi, nails.

I enjoy feeling fresh and smelling good.

by Anonymousreply 57April 24, 2021 2:21 AM

The prisspots are going to scream, but I use Irish Spring soap and Head and Shoulders shampoo. I feel clean as a whistle afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 58April 24, 2021 2:44 AM

A shower is just how I start my day. Covid-19 didn't cause me to stop enjoying being clean.

by Anonymousreply 59April 24, 2021 2:52 AM

I went camping a few years ago. Outside in the woods for two days with no way to bathe. By the time I got home I could've knocked a buzzard off a shitpile, I stank so bad. I took a long hot shower and when I was done it was such a great refreshing feeling.

by Anonymousreply 60April 24, 2021 2:58 AM

This thread is so depressing. But explains 80% of the people that populate this site.

by Anonymousreply 61April 24, 2021 3:29 AM

I shower daily, sometimes twice daily when it's hot and humid. One of the few things in life that really feels good and costs pennies.

by Anonymousreply 62April 24, 2021 3:37 AM
I've increased bathing to twice a day and wash all my clothes daily

You’re the reason why we’re in a drought. Stop wasting water.

by Anonymousreply 63April 24, 2021 6:16 AM

Bitch I have well water and I live in the Northeast. You can go get fucked, drought isn't a issue here.

by Anonymousreply 64April 24, 2021 6:31 AM

I go five or six days, sometimes but rarely seven, between showers. I usually do it when my butt itches so bad I can't stand it anymore. And I get weird scabby things on my scalp that seem to only come on when I don't wash it.

In the summer or when I'm seeing someone, it's every day or twice.

The pandemic did weird things to me.

by Anonymousreply 65April 24, 2021 6:32 AM

2 showers a day - 1 before leaving the house and 1 after the gym. You guys are nasty. I hope you air your homes out. Some eldergay homes makes you want to vomit with smell.

by Anonymousreply 66April 24, 2021 6:46 AM

Since I don't have to go to work I've developed a strange bathing schedule and not my usual morning shower.

I tend to fall into my work in my boxers with a cup of coffee and before I know it it is lunchtime. So now on most days I bathe in the late afternoon after I take my post lunch nap

by Anonymousreply 67April 24, 2021 7:27 AM

Hey guys: please do shower, if "only" for yourself. I'm single and shower at least once per day.

by Anonymousreply 68April 24, 2021 7:14 PM

Some dirty-ass motherfuckers up in this thread. A shower only takes three minutes, no excuse not to wash your nasty asses every day.

by Anonymousreply 69April 24, 2021 7:32 PM

You are gross if it only takes you 3 minutes to shower. You’re wetting yourself without properly cleaning which makes things worse. Bacteria thrives in wetness. And your towels will be so disgusting with this minute shower. Might as well not shower.

by Anonymousreply 70April 24, 2021 7:36 PM

r70 a three minute shower is sufficient if your thoroughly scrub yourself.

by Anonymousreply 71April 24, 2021 7:38 PM

You may think you're alone but you've got just as many bacteria on you as ever. If you don't feel like showering, take a bath.

by Anonymousreply 72April 24, 2021 7:40 PM

r72 you're not too bright.

by Anonymousreply 73April 24, 2021 7:49 PM

Even before the pandemic I was only having a whore’s bath twice a week. Now a month seems like nothing.

by Anonymousreply 74April 24, 2021 7:50 PM

Exactly! All these shrieking Marys have no idea what they’re talking about. They just psychologically need a shower twice a day like they’re a lemming robot. I’d rather trust science and the dermatologists.

by Anonymousreply 75April 24, 2021 7:55 PM

I'm a total grease pit if I don't shower every day.

And all of you who don't shower every day stink. People are just too polite to tell you.

by Anonymousreply 76April 24, 2021 8:01 PM

For the seniors here, unless you get dirty, bathing daily dries your skin too much. But please don’t wait until you’re stinky.

by Anonymousreply 77April 24, 2021 8:04 PM

Not if you use a good moisturizer r77.

by Anonymousreply 78April 24, 2021 8:06 PM

For all the nasty asses bathing on a weekly or monthly basis (yuck), there's a reason personal hygiene and sanitation were invented, and are promoted for good health.

by Anonymousreply 80April 24, 2021 8:11 PM

Bathing twice a month? What is this the fucking Middle Ages?

by Anonymousreply 81April 24, 2021 8:30 PM

Before the pandemic it was every day, but now that I don't go into the office I might skip a day. Still, after 24 hours I'm pretty filthy.

by Anonymousreply 82April 24, 2021 8:53 PM

a three minute shower is not even possible if you are showering correctly. My showers take between 15-20 mins. You should shampoo your hair, rinse, then apply conditioner and leave on while you clean your body. Using a washcloth, lather it up, wash your arms and torso, rinse the washcloth. Lather it again. Wash one leg and your foot. Rinse the washcloth. Lather it again, wash the second leg and foot. Rinse the washcloth, lather again and wash your genitals Rinse washcloth, lather again and wash your butt and asshole. Then rinse whatever hasn't rinsed off. Rinse the conditioner out of your hair completely. Wash your back with a brush with a handle and soap.

Shower complete. Anything less is fucking disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 83April 24, 2021 9:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 84April 24, 2021 9:07 PM

R83 that’s because you shower once every few months. If you shower daily 2-3 minutes is enough.

by Anonymousreply 85April 24, 2021 10:27 PM

Stop sex-worker shaming R74.

by Anonymousreply 86April 24, 2021 10:45 PM

r83 you're an OCD prisspot. A wet-down, lather and rinse is all that's really needed.

by Anonymousreply 87April 24, 2021 11:04 PM

R83, don’t be ridiculous, one can absolutely take a complete and thorough shower in 3 minutes or less.

by Anonymousreply 88April 24, 2021 11:23 PM

Yes, with my Speakman showerhead that I've taken with me to three apartments and four houses over the years.

It's an Anystream 2000.

by Anonymousreply 89April 24, 2021 11:25 PM

I may be an OCD prisspot, but I'm cleaner than most of you pigs.

by Anonymousreply 90April 25, 2021 12:58 AM

r90 your shower routine is not necessary to get yourself clean. It's really extreme.

by Anonymousreply 91April 25, 2021 1:12 AM

Not really, r90. It's called washing your body. You need soap and a washcloth to get clean. Anything else is just surface buffing.

by Anonymousreply 92April 25, 2021 2:51 AM

I love how these nasty ass motherfuckers then want to school people on douching etiquette in other threads.

by Anonymousreply 93April 25, 2021 2:58 AM

R83 I shower every day and take a good 15 minutes because I like being under the water but scrubbing my skin everyday would be too much for me.

One thing I'm particular about is that I need freshly cleaned clothes everyday. I never wear the same socks or underwear or shirts from one day to the next. Pants are an exception but even then, I more often than not wear a fresh pair.

The pandemic has not changed these habits.

by Anonymousreply 94April 25, 2021 3:20 AM

I always used to shower before bed and would shower and shave at the gym in the morning before work. Since I no longer go to the gym or office, I am down to one shower a day, usually in the morning. However now that the weather is getting nice and I am spending time outside, I need to wear sunscreen so will want to wash it off at night before bed.

by Anonymousreply 95April 25, 2021 3:28 AM

r83's prisspot Silkwood shower routine had me laughing out loud.

by Anonymousreply 96April 25, 2021 3:47 AM

Showering in this country is completely overdone. I shower one a week in winter, twice a week in summer and go into the office M-F.

by Anonymousreply 97April 25, 2021 4:02 AM

What has me laughing, r96 is how so many people were never taught how to properly bathe. There's a reason I'm a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 98April 25, 2021 4:06 AM

r98/83 your shower routine is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 99April 25, 2021 4:09 AM

Bitch, hell no. I literally can’t fall asleep if I haven’t showered before bedtime.

by Anonymousreply 100April 25, 2021 4:13 AM

I get that not showering everyday may work for some people. But how about the hole? It must always be presentable.

by Anonymousreply 101April 25, 2021 4:13 AM

R83 I like [italic]most[/italic] of your routine - similar to mine - but I find the whole leaving the conditioner on until the end bit gross.

Nothing should remain on the scalp after one has begun to wash one’s body. Otherwise, you’re just dousing head rinse all over a perfectly clean body.

by Anonymousreply 102April 25, 2021 4:22 AM

That might be true for skinny people but not fat people in humid climates.

by Anonymousreply 103April 25, 2021 4:23 AM

I recently read a book which claimed that the French aristocracy built big mansions and palaces without bathrooms because they only changed their clothes to be 'clean'.

by Anonymousreply 104April 25, 2021 4:23 AM

Conditioner needs to be left on for about 5 minutes to work. Nothing wrong with leaving it on while you clean your body.

by Anonymousreply 105April 25, 2021 4:28 AM

R105 I brush my teeth while I do that.

by Anonymousreply 106April 25, 2021 4:30 AM
I recently read a book which claimed that the French aristocracy built big mansions and palaces without bathrooms because they only changed their clothes to be 'clean'.

The Palace of Versailles was notoriously filthy. People who visited from other countries wrote about what a cesspit it was. There weren't enough chamber pots or water closets, and the Palace was always full of so many people that they relived themselves in stairwells, potted plants, behind furniture etc. The whole place stank of shit and piss.

by Anonymousreply 107April 25, 2021 4:33 AM

Using a washcloth invites all sorts of bacterial growth. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 108April 25, 2021 4:40 AM

R83 would have a very hard time in the service, prison, and drought areas.

by Anonymousreply 109April 25, 2021 4:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 113April 25, 2021 5:02 AM

How does using a washcloth invite bacterial growth, r108. It's a clean, white washcloth . You use it once, let it dry, then wash it with bleach. You can buy them in large packs at Target for about $3. Unlike those plastic ball things which totally invite bacteria since you use them over and over.

by Anonymousreply 115April 25, 2021 5:14 AM

Using your hands gets you perfectly clean as long as you don't have dirt and grime on you.

by Anonymousreply 116April 25, 2021 5:18 AM

What in the living fuck is wrong with you?

Unless you're either a major depressive disorder patient or comatose, shower.

by Anonymousreply 117April 25, 2021 5:23 AM

The older generation used to take “a bird bath” which meant, I gather, filling the sink or basin and scooping water and soap to splash about the body. We are lucky to have the luxury of a long hot shower when we want.

by Anonymousreply 118April 25, 2021 5:24 AM

OP is full of shit. If I go even one day without a shower, I'm a mess... hair is greasy and itchy, skin is greasy and gross, and I feel awful. Showering once a day is a requirement for me. Period. I can't even show my face in public if I haven't washed my hair.

by Anonymousreply 119April 25, 2021 5:32 AM

And yet, as has become apparent from this thread, people still don't bathe R118. It only took a year for everyone to regress back to medieval bathing habits.

by Anonymousreply 120April 25, 2021 5:33 AM

Are you people who don't shower often total recluses who are never around other people and never have sex?

by Anonymousreply 121April 25, 2021 5:52 AM

No, we’re around people all the time and have plenty of sex. We just don’t have it with total prisspots who require the world to be completely sanitized. Do you pump Purell up your 🕳 too?

by Anonymousreply 122April 25, 2021 5:56 AM

I shower three times a week. Never longer than 7 mins. M/Thurs/Sun.

It's perfect for conservation, cleanliness, and sustainability.

by Anonymousreply 123April 25, 2021 6:01 AM

r122 it's about basic cleanliness. Not showering regularly is just gross. And yes you DO smell.

by Anonymousreply 124April 25, 2021 6:05 AM

If you are really fat do you have someone hose you down and perhaps use a "warsh stick" to clean the hard to reach places?

How does all that work during covid lockdown?

Asking thd fatties out there.

by Anonymousreply 125April 25, 2021 9:43 AM

Sometimes I shower daily, and sometimes it's every other day. I live alone. I haven' t done anything for a year but occasionally go the grocery store and get my haircut once every three months. Showering every other day is enough.

by Anonymousreply 128April 25, 2021 10:46 AM

I hate tubs. I can't imagine sitting in a pool of my own filth then having to stand up after bathing and showering all the dirty water off me. I had the tubs in my bathrooms removed back in the mid 90s when I did a massive renovation of my apartment and replaced with walk in showers.

by Anonymousreply 129April 25, 2021 10:51 AM

Yes, but aside from general hygiene, it's due to my lower back pain. A hot shower is awesome for it.

by Anonymousreply 130April 25, 2021 11:07 AM

I do, but not every day now.

by Anonymousreply 131April 25, 2021 11:29 AM

In CA, there is a major drought, the less water we use the better. Cutting back on showering is a perfect place to start, as there is no need to shower ever day.

by Anonymousreply 137April 25, 2021 5:56 PM

Some people are just dirty bitches. Just like there are those of us who like showers, I have a female friend who hates showering. You have to tell her, bitch go take a shower and she's not an old, ugly cat lady. She's like a Burning Man party girl. Whatever floats your boat. Showering is such a pleasure to me.

Yuck r139! He is so gross. Why did he think anyone would want to see his nasty body?

by Anonymousreply 142April 25, 2021 6:34 PM

I shower daily. But, every other day, it's an abbreviated shower: face, pits, groin, and feet. I have a handheld shower head and I blast my feet with that.

When I lived in a colder climate, during winter, there were days I was tempted to not shower. My skin was so dry.

by Anonymousreply 143April 25, 2021 6:43 PM

I have water saver hand held shower heads in all of my showers and each one has a button that will stop the flow of water without turning the water completely off. There is absolutely no need to have the shower running while you're soaping up and washing yourself. You wet yourself down and then turn the water off while washing. Then you turn it back on when you're ready to rinse. Water saver shower heads should be required by law at this point. These ridiculous rainfall shower heads should be illegal.

You people who take abbreviated showers are so gross. When you wash your groin and ass, fecal matter drips down your legs yet you don’t soap up or wash your legs. You just dry off and go. Disgusting. Even worse than if you never showered. Either shower correctly or don’t at all, none of this abbreviated crap.

by Anonymousreply 153April 26, 2021 12:17 AM

I don't even want to know how often you Neanderthals clean your bathroom. Because nothing less than once per week is an acceptable answer.

by Anonymousreply 154April 26, 2021 1:50 AM

I spot-clean my bathroom pretty much daily, so there's no need for a big cleaning job. Spot cleaning as you go along makes things much easier. Hint: Keep Clorox wipes (or equivalent) under the bathroom sink, so they're in easy reach and you can do a quick wipe-down of floor, toilet and counter (using separate wipes for each, of course). That really helps, and it only takes a minute.

Of course, I'm sure some of these pigs who only shower once a week also have bathrooms that are Biohazard zones.

by Anonymousreply 155April 26, 2021 2:16 AM

I shower twice a day to feel fresh - sometimes 3x a day. I’m obese and fungus can take hold in the skin folds, especially those that rub together. You can get a white, cheesy substance in places like the ass crack, thighs, stomach. You’ve got to rub lots of special antibacterial soap on the raw, red places, then slather them with triple antibiotic cream. Of course, the antibiotic cream gets overwhelmed by the multiplying bacteria in the skin folds, so you have to shower & scrub off the gelatinous residue formed by remnants of cream from a tube & cream from your pores. Don’t forget to pull up loose balls of fat to shake some gold bond medicated powder (which isn’t really medicated), underneath the fatty skin globules in order to make a paste. This will absorb your perspiration for a few hours until it slides off the skin and into your clothing. That’s when you know it’s time for another shower.

I’ve tried to go with only showering every other day but I begin not fell as I’d something is crawling one me

by Anonymousreply 156April 26, 2021 9:25 PM

How is hole washed? Outside or a soapy finger inserted?

by Anonymousreply 157April 26, 2021 9:25 PM

I found anal cancer by sticking my finger into my butthole. Just do it.

by Anonymousreply 158April 26, 2021 10:06 PM

I work from home. I shower every 3-4 days unless I'm seeing people. I go for long walks every day but don't get smelly.

In the winter, I feel I could go longer as I don't stink but just shower as matter of self-respect. Unless you're working in sewers or running five miles a day in the heat, there's no reason to shower daily and it's a huge waste of resources.

by Anonymousreply 159April 27, 2021 8:02 PM

R159 do you also wash your hole every three or four days?

by Anonymousreply 160April 27, 2021 9:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 161April 27, 2021 9:38 PM

One of the funniest things a friend of mine said to his room mate back in the day just before we were all about to go out to the bar was "did Febreze come out with a body spray?". He went into the bathroom and pretended to take a shower, ran the water and didn't actually do it, and we all knew it.

by Anonymousreply 162April 27, 2021 9:48 PM

Hehe cute.

by Anonymousreply 163April 27, 2021 9:52 PM

It's so weird that in modern society, where a huge chunk of jobs if not most jobs require NO physical labor, we shower more than we ever have in history. Twice daily showers are nothing but anal retentive wastefulness from prissy queens.

by Anonymousreply 164April 27, 2021 10:21 PM

I have been getting depressed, drinking and smoking more (need to stop as last few medical investigations came back good and I don't need to destroy my health at 43). I was showering every other day but that got disgusting after the first month. My roommate buys some really amazing lavender and maringa bath products so I run the water, run the hot water all over, lather up head to toe, scrub my self in some good smells and rinse off. I really do feel too lazy but force myself every day and I feel so good afterwards. One thing I can't explain is why I have gotten lazy about it since the pandemic. Used to be super fastidious because I was raised that way.

by Anonymousreply 165April 27, 2021 10:33 PM

Anyone else find they smell more since the pandemic? It may be that I don't wear the same variety of clothes and shoes, stay too long indoors in my house clothes despite walking briskly, drink and smoke more. However, I feel like I smell worse and just need to shower and clean more.

by Anonymousreply 166April 27, 2021 10:36 PM

I still take hot showers regularly. I have lower back pain from sitting at my desk all day as I'm older. But I don't have to do laundry as frequently, Just basic stuff like sheets, socks, towels, t-shirts, shorts, boxers, etc...

by Anonymousreply 167April 27, 2021 10:52 PM

I can't get into bed at night unless I've had a shower, and I can't start my day in the morning until I have a shower. I need to feel clean.

Y'all are some dirtyass motherfuckers on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 168April 27, 2021 11:54 PM

No, but I douche regularly.

by Anonymousreply 169April 28, 2021 12:07 AM

Can't say my showering has decreased in any way during the shutdown. Why are people assuming this is wide=spread? I think haphazard or decreasing grooming is a sign of a mental inbalance or an emotional disorder. I definitely associate it with periods of depression in my life. I wouldn't take such a thing casually.

Are you all okay?

by Anonymousreply 170April 28, 2021 12:17 AM

I'm not surprised at the number of DLers who are dirty and unclean. There are a lot of mental disorders in this forum, and many recluses.

by Anonymousreply 171April 28, 2021 12:33 AM

Once a week now. I feel disgusting. Dead inside really.

by Anonymousreply 172April 28, 2021 4:12 AM

I had a in-person meeting this afternoon, so I had to shower for the first time in two weeks. I washed my underarms twice, but I just have body wash and it doesn’t leave me feeling clean. I need to find old-fashioned soap that does a deep clean. I might try dishwashing soap. I use that to wash my hands because it can clean well.

by Anonymousreply 173April 28, 2021 4:23 AM

Body wash washes you better and cleaner than any bar soap and certainly better for you than dish soap. Your idiotic and baseless perceptions and "feelings" about being clean are pure bunk.

by Anonymousreply 174April 28, 2021 4:33 AM

A shower shouldn't take 20 minute unless you are jerking off in there or having sex in there. Turn on the water, step in when it's warm, soap up a washcloth (10 seconds) with a moisturizing soap, like Dove , run it quickly along your arms and under the pits, down your torso (30 seconds), rinse and resoap washcloth, clean crotch, run washcloth down legs, on and under feet (35 seconds), get hair wet, use pump shampoo, shampoo hair (20 seconds), use washcloth to soap face, take soapy hand and clean ass, rinse hair, and make sure body is fully rinsed. 3 minutes and you're out of there, fully clean and ready to face the world smelling good and looking and feeling clean. Less water than you use doing a load of dishes. Soap and shampoo suds running down from your hair and wherever you use a washcloth is more than enough to get your back and most of your skin clean without scrubbing unless you are caked in dirt from working in a coal mine. A 3 minute shower a day is not going to use up all the water in California. 3 minutes a day is 21 minutes a week, shorter than some of the showers some of you are describing.

by Anonymousreply 175April 28, 2021 4:55 AM

R175 I'm gay and I have a lot of creams and lotions and tonics and elixirs I use in the shower to purify my body. It's time consuming I assure you.
Body wash washes you better and cleaner than any bar soap

No it doesn't. Bar soap does the job nicely.

I see Dial soap is still for sale. I might try that.

by Anonymousreply 178April 28, 2021 5:27 AM

Those who don’t shower are gross.

by Anonymousreply 179April 28, 2021 5:28 AM

Body wash is mostly water. It works, of course, but it doesn't get you "cleaner" than bar soap.

She uses the body wash and I can smell it if I pass by her bathroom. It's far more potent. Obviously, too perfumey for me, but hey, if a parfumey shower is a way to get some of you to finally bathe...just shower.

I 100% get where R172 is coming from...feel the same a good chunk of the day most days, but have some mercy and wash your asses.

by Anonymousreply 187April 28, 2021 9:04 AM

There's no difference between body wash and bar soap you may think the body wash gets you cleaner since you probably pour more soap on your washcloth. you won't rub as much soap from bar soap onto the washcloth since it takes more effort to put the same amount of soap on the washcloth.

by Anonymousreply 188April 28, 2021 11:07 AM

^^^ That’s right. It makes you use more soap.

by Anonymousreply 189April 28, 2021 11:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 190April 28, 2021 11:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 191April 28, 2021 2:06 PM

Bar soap is not bacteria laden and who the hell shares a bar of soap?

by Anonymousreply 192April 28, 2021 2:52 PM

How the hell is bar soap wasteful? It's a bar of soap. What about the big plastic bottles body wash comes in?

by Anonymousreply 193April 28, 2021 2:53 PM

It's clear many people in this thread need to be hosed down, disinfected, debrided, and dried off. Half the people on this thread are going to start a whole new plague with their lack of personal hygiene.

by Anonymousreply 194April 28, 2021 2:58 PM

R181, seriously? You went for weeks, if not months without cleaning yourself? You sound horrifyingly disgusting!

by Anonymousreply 195April 28, 2021 3:38 PM

R195 - I think some posters are exaggerating, drunk, or cavemen posting from the Great Beyond. No way these people didn't shower in a year. That being said, the German actress Freddie Mercury lived with told me when I met her (before her death in 2002) that in his last year there, after he broke up with his boyfriend and moved in with her she had to wash him because otherwise he suddenly stopped washing at all. Maybe after a trauma or shock it's a symptom of something...otherwise I can't imagine gay men would be so unhygienic. FFS!

I thought most of you would be at your lake houses by now - taking an early morning dip in your lakes followed by mug cradling and meditations helpfully broadcast to your fourteen followers on live journal....

by Anonymousreply 197April 28, 2021 4:34 PM

R193, it sits there evaporating, or sitting in water dissolving, less than half of it actually gets on your body as you sit there lathering with it.

It's also generally really bad for your skin, unless you're using a Dove bar or something like that. That tight, dry, itchy feeling is soap scum and residue that doesn't rinse off, and the result of poor pH balance. Body washes are just infinitely better for you and anyone denying this is denying obvious reality.

by Anonymousreply 198April 28, 2021 5:56 PM

I've used both bar soap and body wash and they're pretty much the same. The OCD freaks on here who insist that soap doesn't get you clean are nuts.
it sits there evaporating, or sitting in water dissolving, less than half of it actually gets on your body as you sit there lathering with it.

That's what soap dishes are for, a bar of soap isn't sitting in water. What do you think happens with body wash? Most of it doesn't get on your body.

My dermatologist told me to use Dove on my body and face, a good moisturizer on my face, and Vaseline on my body to moisturize.

by Anonymousreply 204April 28, 2021 7:43 PM

Vaseline is another contentious topic.

by Anonymousreply 215April 30, 2021 1:09 AM
