What’s the point of Rancho Mirage?

The most pointless place I have ever been. Other than being far from the beach and 120 degrees, how is it different from LA? Why not just rent a much closer house in Malibu, and enjoy a pool AND the beach?

Unlike what Napa is to San Francisco, oh what the Hamptons are to NY, Los Angeles and Rancho Mirage are both suburban car cities with access to tons of pools and nice weather. Rancho Mirage doesn’t seem worth the money. Is there even a ranch or a mirage?

What’s up with all the weird California real estate adjacent threads? By the way weird is Playa Vista, built on top of a methane field of Native American bodies in a drained wet marshlands that became Howard Hughes air field for a quarter of a century and is one big earthquake away from sliding into the sea like jello.

by Anonymousreply 1April 21, 2021 2:15 AM

Old rich Republican graveyard as Palm Springs is for old Gay men with AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 2April 21, 2021 2:15 AM

As a desiccated stick insect, I feel that I am bound for Rancho Mirage in 10 or, most, 15 years. It's all about the dry heat. There will be no air conditioning please.

by Anonymousreply 3April 21, 2021 2:21 AM

Not sure why OP would find a large elegant beautiful home on a golf course with water features, nestled at the base of mountains in a safe, gated community as distasteful.

by Anonymousreply 4April 21, 2021 2:28 AM

I echo r1's comment.

Too many stupid threads in the last 24 hours on desert retirement communities close to LA.

by Anonymousreply 5April 21, 2021 2:31 AM

[quote] Too many stupid threads in the last 24 hours on desert retirement communities close to LA.

Montecito? Cos she has retired herself.

by Anonymousreply 6April 21, 2021 2:45 AM

Lived in NYC for 18 years and loved it but for many it would be too noisy, dirty, dangerous, crowded, expensive and the summers can be humid and the winters cold to each his own but I found Palm Springs a relaxing oasis that was clean, quiet, dry and except for the summer the weather was wonderful and my friends from LA still go there to relax get away from crowds and ride bikes and relax. It's very beautiful and the nights are wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 7April 21, 2021 3:10 AM

RM is the new home of Bianca Del Rio - she paid $850k for new construction and drives around in a golf cart. Fancy!

by Anonymousreply 8April 21, 2021 3:11 AM

R7 this is about RM.

by Anonymousreply 9April 21, 2021 3:11 AM

I suppose Franky Grand will be moving in, sigh.

R9 Been there and like Palm Springs it has the same beauty, climate, topography, relaxed pace and views of the San Jacinto Mountains peaked with snow November through May. Both are part of the Coachella Valley aka Palm Springs area. And like another thread What's the Point of Palm Springs the answers for that and Rancho Mirage would be the same.

by Anonymousreply 11April 21, 2021 3:23 AM

R9 Palm Springs is 10 miles from Rancho Mirage.

by Anonymousreply 12April 21, 2021 3:30 AM

Palm Springs may as well be ten thousand miles away from RM, they are that different.

by Anonymousreply 13April 21, 2021 3:36 AM

R13 Have you ever been to either place? That clip doesn't explain anything! Can you explain the differences for the similarities are obvious.

by Anonymousreply 14April 21, 2021 3:47 AM

PS is BMW. RM is Bentley. Paseo is the Rodeo Dr. of the desert.

by Anonymousreply 15April 21, 2021 4:00 AM

The Betty Ford SCenter is there!

by Anonymousreply 16April 21, 2021 4:01 AM

The image in R13 clearly isn't Rancho Mirage and makes me believe the OP aka Sarah needs to recharge her vibrator!

by Anonymousreply 17April 21, 2021 4:26 AM

The location looks beautiful in OP's pic although those houses looks underwhelming. If I could plonk a nice ornate old Victorian place in there I'd be happy with it, I like dry heat

by Anonymousreply 18April 21, 2021 6:42 AM

I prefer the Bentley.

by Anonymousreply 19April 21, 2021 6:42 PM

What's the point of this what's the point dickhead who hates every place and suggests "why not just rent a house with a pool AND beach in Malibu?"

What's the point of not following his own advice? And maybe stop asking stupid questions?

by Anonymousreply 20April 21, 2021 6:54 PM

Okay as a Winter residence or vacation jaunt, but I don't know why anyone would want to live anywhere in the Coachella Valley year-round.

by Anonymousreply 21April 21, 2021 6:56 PM

It's a big retirement destination and the dry heat even in summer is more comfortable than the humidity on the East coast.

by Anonymousreply 22April 21, 2021 7:59 PM

What's the point of this thread?

by Anonymousreply 23April 21, 2021 9:33 PM

Dry heat--one of the dumbest arguments---it just drives people indoors like the humid kind.

by Anonymousreply 24April 21, 2021 10:25 PM

I moved there to be close to the Betty Ford.

by Anonymousreply 25April 21, 2021 11:36 PM

[quote]I moved there to be close to the Betty Ford.

They have annual passes.

by Anonymousreply 26April 21, 2021 11:49 PM

I am a Betty Ford outpatient.

by Anonymousreply 27April 21, 2021 11:49 PM

Rancho Mirage is mostly old white and Mexican people with money.

by Anonymousreply 28April 22, 2021 12:14 AM

If it's Mexican then I'm out.

by Anonymousreply 29April 22, 2021 1:16 AM

R28 Sounds safe and clean.

by Anonymousreply 30April 22, 2021 1:35 AM

The few Gays that live in Rancho Mirage claim that they live in Heaven on Earth but commute the 10 miles every weekend to attend all the naked pool parties and activities in Palm Springs. They eventually admit that they made a huge mistake buying in Rancho mirage.

by Anonymousreply 31April 22, 2021 1:54 AM

OP:

Some Like It Hot - 1959

Some Like It Hotter - 2021

Some Like It Hell-Hot But It Broils Them Anyway - 2031

by Anonymousreply 32April 22, 2021 2:03 AM

R24 I've experienced both and since you aren't dripping sweat and becoming dehydrated dry heat is more comfortable and humidity can make you feel much hotter than the actual temperature. A dry 106 feels better than a balmy 91 degrees. And in the desert the temperature cools rapidly once the sun goes down while in Miami it can be a humid 82 at 2am.

by Anonymousreply 33April 22, 2021 2:28 AM

R31 I know people who travel at least 10 miles to and from work everyday; for a naked pool party on weekends it wouldn't bother me.

by Anonymousreply 34April 22, 2021 3:40 AM

R34 I travel further than that to/from work, by bicycle (about 20 km)

by Anonymousreply 35April 22, 2021 2:58 PM

PS: gay gay gay, old Hollywood neighborhood glam, The Movie Colony, the Mesa, mid century architecture

Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert: nasty, poor gays, meth, industrial, chain stores, car dealers

Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells: wealthy, high end shopping, Republican, deathly quiet after 8pm, large moldy garish homes.

La Quinta: wealthy retirees, The Madison Club, Hideaway, Traditions, new $ (Kartrashian) TV and movie money, close to Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport for private jets to land, a few nights at your mansion, golf and go home.

by Anonymousreply 36April 22, 2021 3:09 PM

Golf! Downsize from the big LA house. Help your kids out with money for a home.

by Anonymousreply 37April 22, 2021 3:22 PM

[quote]PS is BMW. RM is Bentley. Paseo is the Rodeo Dr. of the desert.

Paseo is in Palm Desert.

by Anonymousreply 38April 22, 2021 3:27 PM

No one is making this any more attractive.

by Anonymousreply 39April 22, 2021 3:33 PM

I'll take the dry heat of Palm Springs, even in the summer, to the hot and humid climate where I live. I can't even walk outside for 5 minutes without being soaked in sweat. Humid heat is a deal-breaker. Also, we get horrible thunderstorms with large hail, flooding and tornadoes. Florida is under threat from hurricanes half of the year, which can destroy your home. The Northeast has to deal with snow and ice for half the year. Palm Springs has none of that.

by Anonymousreply 40April 22, 2021 3:36 PM

delish!

by Anonymousreply 41January 16, 2022 2:43 AM

I just bought a brand new 3br 2b vacation home there for 735.00. It will be finished by July. Less expensive than resale homes in the area.

by Anonymousreply 42January 16, 2022 2:48 AM

Rancho Mirage has the best hospitals, good news for eldergays!

by Anonymousreply 43January 16, 2022 3:02 AM

Old rich white republicans. Half of DL will love it.

by Anonymousreply 44January 16, 2022 3:37 AM

yummy!

by Anonymousreply 45January 16, 2022 6:19 AM

@r4, "Not sure why OP would find a large elegant beautiful home on a golf course with water features, nestled at the base of mountains in a safe, gated community as distasteful. "

I bet you drive a Buick and laugh at old Bob Hope Specials

by Anonymousreply 46January 16, 2022 6:42 AM

sexy!

by Anonymousreply 47January 16, 2022 7:32 PM

Ha! r46 is pushing 50 and still rents. Loser.

by Anonymousreply 48January 16, 2022 7:34 PM

I live full time at the Madison Club. Deathly quiet. But it is lock and go for travel. Armed response and totally secure.

by Anonymousreply 49January 16, 2022 7:38 PM

If I could see that beautiful scene in the photo every day, I would love to live there. Although NOT on a golf course, or in a gated community.

by Anonymousreply 50January 16, 2022 11:59 PM

"Rancho Mirage"? Is this a thing now? Never heard of it.

[QUOTE] Lived in NYC for 18 years and loved it but for many it would be too noisy, dirty, dangerous, crowded, expensive and the summers can be humid and the winters cold to each his own

Oh Mary. The obligatory "I lived in NYC" person has to enter the thread.

by Anonymousreply 52January 17, 2022 12:04 AM

I've lived in Los Angeles most of my life and can't wait to get the fuck out of this ridiculously loud city infested with fat loud dumpers cunts who live in family compounds paid by the parents.

R52 what do you care about RM? Aren't you and your so-called husband in or on your way to Georgia from CA?

by Anonymousreply 56January 17, 2022 2:25 PM

We're keeping our options open, R56.

We're even thinking of moving to NYC instead. We were considering Washington Heights, but people warned us against it. But they wouldn't say any more about what was wrong with the neighborhood, for whatever reason.

by Anonymousreply 57January 17, 2022 3:01 PM

I live in Rancho Mirage and LOVE it. We're in a gated community that's about 1/4 gay. Eldergay, to be sure, but gay nonetheless, and these old queens throw some fantastic dinner parties.

Rancho does not have the problems with homelessness or raucous short-term rentals that have truly eroded the quality of life in Palm Springs, because RM has forbidden short-term rentals and it's not really a tourist town like PS is. However, if you really want to get your gay on, it's only an easy 20 minute drive to any of the bars on Arenas, or any other restaurant in Palm Springs.

We have fabulous views of snow-peaked mountains for half the year, but unlike PS, we're far enough away from them so that it doesn't affect our daylight hours. PS is nestled right at the base of Mt. San Jacinto and, in the wintertime, the mountain blocks sunshine at around 3pm. We get about 2 hours more sunshine.

RM is actually a fantastic place to live. Odd, though, to see it brought up for discussion on DL.

by Anonymousreply 58January 17, 2022 3:47 PM

R57 What about your husband's 'job'?

by Anonymousreply 59January 17, 2022 3:49 PM

R57 You're up early if you are still in CA. Worried about the tsunami?

by Anonymousreply 60January 17, 2022 3:54 PM

Unlike other parts of CA. the desert is not plagued by wildfires, tsunamis, oil spills, or floods.
