by Anonymousreply 76April 21, 2021 1:11 PM

Errr....I guess he was the Vice President. Before my time.

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2021 12:59 AM

Sad!

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2021 12:59 AM

It happened in Minnesota. Probably killed by white cops.

by Anonymousreply 3April 20, 2021 1:01 AM

I think he would have a great president and Geraldine Ferraro his VP.

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2021 1:02 AM

Both Walter Mondale and Jimmy Carter were still alive forty years after leaving office!

I'm sure that's the record!

by Anonymousreply 5April 20, 2021 1:02 AM

Well, shit...I thought he was already dead.

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2021 1:05 AM

Mondale became much more conservative after he left government and tried to open a business.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2021 1:08 AM

His collapse is complete. He'll never be president.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2021 1:18 AM

So much a part of my youth. Makes me sad. RIP

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2021 1:22 AM

[quote]So much a part of my youth. Makes me sad. RIP

The first presidential candidate I ever voted for.

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2021 1:33 AM

Are there any Walters still living?

by Anonymousreply 12April 20, 2021 1:35 AM

But Quayle, Cheney, and Pence are still with us.

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2021 1:35 AM

[quote]Are there any Walters still living?

Barbara.

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2021 1:35 AM

Wow. Jimmy Carter is still with us at 96.

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2021 1:39 AM

He was a good civil servant, if not the most exciting one.

But I remember earlier this year seeing a clip of him from 1980 counting the votes as they were certified, and when he counted his home state, which voted for him, the whole chamber stood and applauded. Back when our government still had a semblance of dignity and purpose, before all was sold to the highest bidder.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2021 1:39 AM

[quote] I think he would have a great president and Geraldine Ferraro his VP.

Her....not so much.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2021 1:39 AM

wow I had no idea that Klobuchar interned for him during her college years

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2021 1:39 AM

[quote] Are there any Walters still living?

Not me.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2021 1:39 AM

R12) only in your mind.

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2021 1:42 AM

He was so magnetic..

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2021 1:42 AM

Where's the beef?

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2021 1:44 AM

He outlived his wife Joan and daughter Eleanor.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2021 1:47 AM

Apart from his lesser charisma compared to Reagan (who had Alzheimer’s for much of his second term), he lost decisively because he promised to eliminate the deficit through increased taxes. He was even mocked on game shows for saying he would raise taxes.

That defeat locked in American’s belief that they could get more military and social services without being asked to pay for it. Americans like fantasies, especially if they involve getting something for nothing.

Hillary Clinton’s loss was another for in the road for America. When faced with a tough choice, we always choose wrong.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2021 1:51 AM

.......

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2021 1:52 AM

So sad that he didn't become President. He would have been so much better than that senile old fart Reagan. But America still bought into Reagan's "Morning in America" bullshit. Dumbasses.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2021 2:03 AM

[quote] He would have been so much better than that senile old fart Reagan.

If Mondale had been elected, America would have quickly become a Soviet client state. But I suppose you would have liked that, Boris.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2021 2:06 AM

R27 As compared to a corrupt corporate-owned state.

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2021 2:07 AM

The Soviet Union was a shell game, which you would know if you studied history rather than inhaled right wing ideology, r27. There is no way the US could have been subservient to the USSR. You embarrass yourself suggesting that, but looking foolish does not seem to be a major concern for you.

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2021 2:08 AM

R27 Well, a comment like that and YOU are the Boris, kid. Mondale was a solid, social democrat - who was also that kind of Democrat that hardline against Russia. You don't know your history.

But Reagan, completely duping "Reagan Democrats" into electing him to change all of the structures that had created the middle class from 1932 to the 70s. Our country has been sliding into complete dysfunction since and because of Reagan.

Rest in peace in WM.

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2021 2:09 AM

He outlived his daughter Eleanor by a decade.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2021 2:14 AM

R27 has a problematic relationship with a point of view. The shit here about "Boris" and "Soviet client state" are far out of bounds of rationality.

Reagan was the completion of a 20+ year movement to drive the Republicans back where they were with McCarthy, except for the always-on-both-sides Eisenhower and a few Congressional leaders. Reagan handed the country over to the clique whose abominable descendants have overrun state houses, SCOTUS and Congress. Trump was the best friend Russia ever had. It's just the petite Soviet Union now but the same old military, tech. and intelligence components run it, under the paw of the oligarchs who gangstered into power.

So R27 is having fun or is just another debased turd dropper.

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2021 2:19 AM

I had no idea Eleanor Mondale died. She simply dropped off my radar and I completely forgot about her.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2021 2:21 AM

He died in 1990.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2021 2:23 AM

R33, Monica Lewinsky was convinced Bill was fooling around with Eleanor and she was livid.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2021 2:26 AM

[quote]When faced with a tough choice, we always choose wrong.

Wrong. Neither 2016 not 2020 were tough choices, but in one the country did make the right choice.

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2021 2:27 AM

[quote] Wow. Jimmy Carter is still with us at 96.

Nobody wants to have to give the eulogy for him and pretend he was a good president.

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2021 2:28 AM

[quote]Wrong. Neither 2016 not 2020 were tough choices, but in one the country did make the right choice.

Yep. A shame about 2020, though.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2021 2:29 AM

Eleanor was a real good time gal. E! host who had four husbands. In the '90s, conservatives were adamant that she was fucking Bill Clinton in the White House.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2021 2:31 AM

Walter was a warm and decent guy (I met him once because a college friend had an office next door to him at the Dorsey law firm). And I interviewed wife Joan for my college paper; she would have been a lovely First Lady. Really bright, and "classy" in the old-school sense. Very tolerant of how different their children ended up being.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2021 2:35 AM

[quote]In the '90s, conservatives were adamant that she was fucking Bill Clinton in the White House.

With what, Michael Robinson's penis?

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2021 2:44 AM

r15 Is he in poor health?

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2021 2:44 AM

Has Susan Dey commented?

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2021 2:54 AM

What is the State funeral protocol for Former VPOTUS? Will there be a Hearst? Will there be a Choir?

Is this Meghan Markel’s chance to attend a BIG FUNERAL?

by Anonymousreply 44April 20, 2021 3:00 AM

R6 Same.

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2021 3:00 AM

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex will be allowed to wear full Admiral uniform to the funeral.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2021 3:22 AM

"Former President Carter honored his former vice president, Walter Mondale, after Mondale died on Monday at the age of 93.'Today I mourn the passing of my dear friend Walter Mondale, who I consider the best vice president in our country’s history,' Carter said in a statement shared on Twitter by The Carter Center. 'During our administration, Fritz used his political skill and personal integrity to transform the vice presidency into a dynamic, policy-driving force that had never been seen before and still exists today,' Carter continued. 'He was an invaluable partner and an able servant of the people of Minnesota, the United States, and the world.'"

by Anonymousreply 47April 20, 2021 3:26 AM

“Couldn’t nail a shingle worth shit,” the Former President muttered.

by Anonymousreply 48April 20, 2021 3:33 AM

I only knew about Walter Mondale because my teen television crush, Brandon Walsh, named his car after him.

RIP to the car & its namesake.

by Anonymousreply 49April 20, 2021 3:38 AM

Can the Carters manage to attend this funeral?

by Anonymousreply 50April 20, 2021 3:41 AM

R49 meet R34.

by Anonymousreply 51April 20, 2021 3:42 AM

We've met, R51- I have him blocked.

by Anonymousreply 52April 20, 2021 3:46 AM

[quote] What is the State funeral protocol for Former VPOTUS? Will there be a Hearst?

By federal law, Patty Hearst is required to attend the funeral of every Vice President. It was a condition of her parole.

by Anonymousreply 53April 20, 2021 4:05 AM

I'm still alive, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 54April 20, 2021 4:29 AM

Fritz was a good man. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 55April 20, 2021 4:29 AM

Imagine going through life being called "Fritz".

by Anonymousreply 56April 20, 2021 6:04 AM

[quote]He was a good civil servant, if not the most exciting one.

He was the Tommy Newsom to Carter's Johnny Carson.

by Anonymousreply 57April 20, 2021 6:38 AM

He had a blandly pleasant ass, but I guess he couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 58April 20, 2021 6:44 AM

Get a load of Miss Nancy Reagan at r27...

by Anonymousreply 59April 20, 2021 6:45 AM

I love how the new troll tactic from is "No, YOU'RE the Boris!" LOL

by Anonymousreply 60April 20, 2021 6:47 AM

[quote] Imagine going through life being called "Fritz".

I can think of worse nicknames.

by Anonymousreply 61April 20, 2021 7:08 AM

[quote] If Mondale had been elected, America would have quickly become a Soviet client state. But I suppose you would have liked that, Boris. [R27] As compared to a corrupt corporate-owned state.

A corrupt corporate owned client state of Russia you mean.

by Anonymousreply 62April 20, 2021 8:49 AM

Now he is finally free of his obsession to jack up tax rates on other people. RIP

by Anonymousreply 63April 20, 2021 9:56 AM

What time it the Larry King show about him?

by Anonymousreply 64April 20, 2021 10:08 AM

Gayle King: “did he die of natural causes?”

by Anonymousreply 65April 20, 2021 10:08 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 66April 20, 2021 11:17 AM

Gayle King: "Why wasn't Walter a woman?"

by Anonymousreply 67April 20, 2021 1:16 PM

Is Laura still a fall risk?

by Anonymousreply 68April 20, 2021 1:34 PM

Laura who? Walter's wife was named Joan.

by Anonymousreply 69April 20, 2021 3:40 PM

Monica vs. Eleanor

by Anonymousreply 70April 20, 2021 6:53 PM

Has anyone investigated yet whether Mondale knew a Laura?

by Anonymousreply 71April 20, 2021 7:05 PM

I thought he died years ago.

by Anonymousreply 72April 20, 2021 7:08 PM

. . . ah, Laura . . .

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 73April 20, 2021 10:50 PM

If you read his Wiki page, he knew he was dying and made calls to Biden and former presidents to say goodbye—a day before he died. I can’t imagine...

by Anonymousreply 74April 21, 2021 1:58 AM

He’d still make a better president than trump was.

by Anonymousreply 75April 21, 2021 2:58 AM

r75 So would my pet amoeba.
