Former Vice Presidential nominee.
Errr....I guess he was the Vice President. Before my time.

Sad!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 20, 2021 12:59 AM |
It happened in Minnesota. Probably killed by white cops.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 20, 2021 1:01 AM |
I think he would have a great president and Geraldine Ferraro his VP.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 20, 2021 1:02 AM |
Both Walter Mondale and Jimmy Carter were still alive forty years after leaving office!
I'm sure that's the record!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 20, 2021 1:02 AM |
Well, shit...I thought he was already dead.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 20, 2021 1:05 AM |
Mondale became much more conservative after he left government and tried to open a business.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 20, 2021 1:08 AM |
His collapse is complete. He'll never be president.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 20, 2021 1:18 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 20, 2021 1:35 AM |
Wow. Jimmy Carter is still with us at 96.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 20, 2021 1:39 AM |
He was a good civil servant, if not the most exciting one.
But I remember earlier this year seeing a clip of him from 1980 counting the votes as they were certified, and when he counted his home state, which voted for him, the whole chamber stood and applauded. Back when our government still had a semblance of dignity and purpose, before all was sold to the highest bidder.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 20, 2021 1:42 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 20, 2021 1:44 AM |
He outlived his wife Joan and daughter Eleanor.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 20, 2021 1:47 AM |
Apart from his lesser charisma compared to Reagan (who had Alzheimer’s for much of his second term), he lost decisively because he promised to eliminate the deficit through increased taxes. He was even mocked on game shows for saying he would raise taxes.
That defeat locked in American’s belief that they could get more military and social services without being asked to pay for it. Americans like fantasies, especially if they involve getting something for nothing.
Hillary Clinton’s loss was another for in the road for America. When faced with a tough choice, we always choose wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 20, 2021 1:51 AM |
.......
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 20, 2021 1:52 AM |
So sad that he didn't become President. He would have been so much better than that senile old fart Reagan. But America still bought into Reagan's "Morning in America" bullshit. Dumbasses.

[quote] He would have been so much better than that senile old fart Reagan.
If Mondale had been elected, America would have quickly become a Soviet client state. But I suppose you would have liked that, Boris.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 20, 2021 2:06 AM |
R27 As compared to a corrupt corporate-owned state.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 20, 2021 2:07 AM |
The Soviet Union was a shell game, which you would know if you studied history rather than inhaled right wing ideology, r27. There is no way the US could have been subservient to the USSR. You embarrass yourself suggesting that, but looking foolish does not seem to be a major concern for you.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 20, 2021 2:08 AM |
R27 Well, a comment like that and YOU are the Boris, kid. Mondale was a solid, social democrat - who was also that kind of Democrat that hardline against Russia. You don't know your history.
But Reagan, completely duping "Reagan Democrats" into electing him to change all of the structures that had created the middle class from 1932 to the 70s. Our country has been sliding into complete dysfunction since and because of Reagan.
Rest in peace in WM.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 20, 2021 2:09 AM |
He outlived his daughter Eleanor by a decade.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 20, 2021 2:14 AM |
R27 has a problematic relationship with a point of view. The shit here about "Boris" and "Soviet client state" are far out of bounds of rationality.
Reagan was the completion of a 20+ year movement to drive the Republicans back where they were with McCarthy, except for the always-on-both-sides Eisenhower and a few Congressional leaders. Reagan handed the country over to the clique whose abominable descendants have overrun state houses, SCOTUS and Congress. Trump was the best friend Russia ever had. It's just the petite Soviet Union now but the same old military, tech. and intelligence components run it, under the paw of the oligarchs who gangstered into power.
So R27 is having fun or is just another debased turd dropper.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 20, 2021 2:19 AM |
I had no idea Eleanor Mondale died. She simply dropped off my radar and I completely forgot about her.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 20, 2021 2:21 AM |
He died in 1990.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 20, 2021 2:23 AM |

Wrong. Neither 2016 not 2020 were tough choices, but in one the country did make the right choice.

Eleanor was a real good time gal. E! host who had four husbands. In the '90s, conservatives were adamant that she was fucking Bill Clinton in the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 20, 2021 2:31 AM |
Walter was a warm and decent guy (I met him once because a college friend had an office next door to him at the Dorsey law firm). And I interviewed wife Joan for my college paper; she would have been a lovely First Lady. Really bright, and "classy" in the old-school sense. Very tolerant of how different their children ended up being.

"Former President Carter honored his former vice president, Walter Mondale, after Mondale died on Monday at the age of 93.'Today I mourn the passing of my dear friend Walter Mondale, who I consider the best vice president in our country’s history,' Carter said in a statement shared on Twitter by The Carter Center. 'During our administration, Fritz used his political skill and personal integrity to transform the vice presidency into a dynamic, policy-driving force that had never been seen before and still exists today,' Carter continued. 'He was an invaluable partner and an able servant of the people of Minnesota, the United States, and the world.'"

By federal law, Patty Hearst is required to attend the funeral of every Vice President. It was a condition of her parole.
