I just watched it for the first time in ages, and Keanu was adorable and charming. So many people say it was bad casting... That he doesn't belong in that film... That he "seems so dumb." Well, guess what? There were plenty of dumb people in the 18th century. PLENTY.

He doesn't just seem dumb, he seems like he's in the wrong country and century.
Same as when he appeared in "Much Ado About Nothing."
I don't know, it's almost as if he has a *very* limited acting range . . .

Reeves has been acting steadily for 35 years. He's certainly not the first actor with limited capabilities to sustain a long, successful career, but to my recollection, he's the only one who has not improved one single iota since he began. If anything, I think he's gotten even worse since he began. Usually, bad actors who are able to keep working successfully learn a little something and are able to show some improvement, or find a groove in which they excel and tend to seem not as awful as they once were, but not Keanu. He hasn't learned one single thing in 35 years of acting. He is awful.

Keanu only ever got parts when he was young because he was cute. Now, he gets parts because he has a recognizable name.
Neither has anything to do with acting talent.
