***The Official Prince Philip Funeral Thread***

Right now Anderson Cooper interviewing Prince Pavlos.

by Anonymousreply 607April 17, 2021 4:56 PM

Here is BBC's live coverage. Anderson Cooper narrating this particular event is less than ideal.

It's BBC on YouTube for me. Very soothing.

by Anonymousreply 2April 17, 2021 1:21 PM

Oh god, don't watch on CNN of all networks, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3April 17, 2021 1:21 PM

Which channel will have the best coverage?

by Anonymousreply 4April 17, 2021 1:21 PM

I'm flipping between BBC and CBC. Both very good, R4.

CNN is awful for this sort of thing.

by Anonymousreply 5April 17, 2021 1:22 PM

BBC, r4, as I posted above, or Sky, who has Alistair Bruce on. Here's the Sky live link:

by Anonymousreply 6April 17, 2021 1:23 PM

Best coverage by people who actually kinda know what they're on about.

Sky News and the Beeb on Youtube.

by Anonymousreply 7April 17, 2021 1:23 PM

I'm watching the BBC coverage...it's been good so far...the do a good job of noting the details.

The weather is perfect and everything looks beautiful. I find it hilarious the Duke meticulously planned his own funeral since the early 2000s. He actually designed his funeral "hearse," a modified Range Rover (that resembles a pick-up truck).

by Anonymousreply 8April 17, 2021 1:24 PM

The first family Bentleys are leaving the arch, but the Queen comes last in the procession, I think, as a point of precedence.

by Anonymousreply 9April 17, 2021 1:24 PM

Tindall and his missus just arrived.

by Anonymousreply 10April 17, 2021 1:26 PM

Thanks OP!!

by Anonymousreply 11April 17, 2021 1:26 PM

They’re finally planting the ok’d geezer? About fucking time, didn’t he die in October?

by Anonymousreply 12April 17, 2021 1:28 PM

They must've modified protocol...nobody is bowing to the arrivees...Princess Beatrice's husband bowed to the archbishop for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 13April 17, 2021 1:28 PM

Another Country is such a beautiful hymn. Perfect.

by Anonymousreply 14April 17, 2021 1:28 PM

I like the Land Rover.

by Anonymousreply 15April 17, 2021 1:29 PM

Having heard that over and over, R8, I'm beginning to feel that that level of it seems obsessive, with his revisiting the plans repeatedly through the years. I'm trying to imagine the mindset that leads one to care so much about one's own funeral.

by Anonymousreply 16April 17, 2021 1:29 PM

I Vow to Thee My Country- what a fitting song

by Anonymousreply 17April 17, 2021 1:29 PM

That's not the Archbishop, he's the Dean

by Anonymousreply 18April 17, 2021 1:29 PM

The Land Rover is a great touch. Philip must have been fucking cool.

by Anonymousreply 19April 17, 2021 1:29 PM

R13 They are bowing. A nod of the head is a bow these days.

by Anonymousreply 20April 17, 2021 1:30 PM

PBS is showing it without any commentary if you’d rather have that. pbs.org

by Anonymousreply 21April 17, 2021 1:30 PM

Here's the CBC link. Far better than CNN for any North Americans. Not quite BBC, but still very good.

The Royal Family: His Royal Highness wouldn't have wanted a big fuss...he'd just want to get on with it.

Prince Philip: I'll accept no fewer than 5,000 people involved in my funeral, and here's the precise roles they'll play...

by Anonymousreply 23April 17, 2021 1:31 PM

I like that he planned it for a long time. Shows he was staying down to earth all those years. "Dust to dust" mentality and all that.

by Anonymousreply 24April 17, 2021 1:31 PM

What a long life. What a blessing. Miss Lilibet, God smiles on you.

by Anonymousreply 25April 17, 2021 1:31 PM

Case in point is the Land Rover. It probably cost over£100,000, just to drive his body around on one day.

by Anonymousreply 26April 17, 2021 1:32 PM

It's actually part of the Jupiter suite from Holst's The planets adapted to I vow to thee my country.

by Anonymousreply 27April 17, 2021 1:32 PM

Oh Valiant Hearts.

by Anonymousreply 28April 17, 2021 1:32 PM

I love "Jerusalem."

by Anonymousreply 29April 17, 2021 1:33 PM

r16, putting six or so stays on the back or a Land Rover does not cost 100,000 anything. It's the least expensive thing that has ever carried any royal, dead or alive.

by Anonymousreply 30April 17, 2021 1:33 PM

Zara looking lovely

by Anonymousreply 32April 17, 2021 1:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 33April 17, 2021 1:34 PM

Isn’t Sky Tv owned by Rupert Murderdoch?

by Anonymousreply 34April 17, 2021 1:34 PM

Sounds pretty good to me. But I have good speakers.

by Anonymousreply 35April 17, 2021 1:35 PM

I Vow to Thee My Country was a favourite of Diana's, played at both her funeral and her wedding. I wonder if Philip selected it as a nod to her sons?

by Anonymousreply 36April 17, 2021 1:35 PM

Today I learned he and The Queen knew each other for 80+ years...who could she possibly relate to on this earth more than him? It's sad to say, but she'll likely die of a broken heart. I suspect there will be a gradual/soft transition to Charles as monarch in the coming weeks so she's doesn't have to endure any undue stress.

by Anonymousreply 37April 17, 2021 1:35 PM

He loved his Land Rovers.

"No sermon, no preaching, no homily. He hated that sort of thing" - CBC commentator. lmao

by Anonymousreply 38April 17, 2021 1:36 PM

BBC and Sky now appearing to be using the same camera, just FYI, so it doesn't matter which you watch until the commentary starts again at 3 pm

by Anonymousreply 39April 17, 2021 1:36 PM

BBC has superior coverage for sure. I only watched CNN for ten seconds. I don’t need play by play commentary. It was weird. Like I was watching a football game.

by Anonymousreply 40April 17, 2021 1:36 PM

Such a beautiful song

by Anonymousreply 41April 17, 2021 1:37 PM

Keeping your head bowed forward with a huge Bearskin on must be a bit challenging.

by Anonymousreply 42April 17, 2021 1:37 PM

R37, you underestimate how tough she is, how well surrounded she is, and how deep her faith is. She can be expected to see this only as an interval.

by Anonymousreply 43April 17, 2021 1:38 PM

R40 Of course this should be watch on BBC. This is its speciality

by Anonymousreply 44April 17, 2021 1:38 PM

CNN is constantly breaking to commercial, plus, though I love Anderson, he's very annoying as a commentator for this sort of thing.

by Anonymousreply 45April 17, 2021 1:38 PM

R34 Democracy Murderdoch

by Anonymousreply 46April 17, 2021 1:38 PM

I think Philip would have liked this pared-down version, as he's known to have wanted no fuss at his funeral.

I have to leave for a couple of hours (figures), but I'm taping both the BBC World News and CNN coverage. I'll probably only watch BBC as they have less gab.

by Anonymousreply 47April 17, 2021 1:38 PM

R37, I disagree. She's tough and being Queen is a life long duty. She'll serve until she dies.

by Anonymousreply 48April 17, 2021 1:39 PM

It is a purpose-built Land Rover.

by Anonymousreply 49April 17, 2021 1:40 PM

Agreed, r43. She is a deeply religious woman with a serious faith. It's one of the things that is rarely talked about. She prays several times a day, morning and night. She has her Chaplain living with her at Windsor. People with strong faith aren't as easily broken by deaths, no matter how devastating.

by Anonymousreply 50April 17, 2021 1:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 62April 17, 2021 1:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 74April 17, 2021 1:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 79April 17, 2021 1:46 PM

What's this tune?

by Anonymousreply 80April 17, 2021 1:46 PM

It's crazy the outlandish rumors people were primed to believe about this day...

by Anonymousreply 81April 17, 2021 1:47 PM

I know Anne is tough as nails but yeah, R74.

by Anonymousreply 82April 17, 2021 1:47 PM

I love how his horses are looking on.

by Anonymousreply 83April 17, 2021 1:47 PM

I see a number of VPLs on those royals walking.

by Anonymousreply 84April 17, 2021 1:47 PM

Leave it to Anne to wear sensible shoes.

by Anonymousreply 85April 17, 2021 1:47 PM

You can see that the family didn't practice their walk together. Harry's completely out of step way off to the right and some guy behind him is way off to the left

by Anonymousreply 86April 17, 2021 1:48 PM

Andrew really has his trousers hiked high.

by Anonymousreply 87April 17, 2021 1:48 PM

Who's with The Queen?

by Anonymousreply 88April 17, 2021 1:48 PM

Lady Susan, R88.

by Anonymousreply 89April 17, 2021 1:48 PM

Anne looks sad yet elegant

by Anonymousreply 90April 17, 2021 1:49 PM

This music reminds me of a funeral in the Godfather.

by Anonymousreply 91April 17, 2021 1:49 PM

AWOL Queen?

by Anonymousreply 92April 17, 2021 1:49 PM

So there is no way in hell then that Lady Susan was a mistress then. Good to have that settled once and for all.

by Anonymousreply 93April 17, 2021 1:49 PM

Peter Phillips is an absolute stud...hard to believe he was written off as being nerdy as opposed to William and Harry.

by Anonymousreply 94April 17, 2021 1:50 PM

Edward, dressing to the left.

by Anonymousreply 95April 17, 2021 1:50 PM

Thum....thum....thum.....thum.....

by Anonymousreply 96April 17, 2021 1:50 PM

Is this a Greek Royal tune?

by Anonymousreply 97April 17, 2021 1:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 98April 17, 2021 1:50 PM

Not to go all DL but did I just catch some major - and to be frank, unexpected, VPL on Prince Edward, of all people?

by Anonymousreply 99April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

Hearing the bell as they march gives me chills. I don’t why, exactly. Very somber.

by Anonymousreply 100April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

The British Commentators? Is any one muting?

by Anonymousreply 101April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 102April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 103April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

R99 what's VPL?

by Anonymousreply 104April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

This is an easy song to walk to, yet Harry and Wills are all out of step.

by Anonymousreply 105April 17, 2021 1:51 PM

Prince Edward is showing VPL. He hangs to the left.

by Anonymousreply 106April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

Is the bell half-muffled? Or full-muffled?

by Anonymousreply 107April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

The sun is a little incongruous. I prefer a bit of gloom at a funeral.

by Anonymousreply 108April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

Edward's dick is visible...it'a hanging to the left...no doubt about it.

by Anonymousreply 109April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

R101 Silent on BBC. They know people want to watch and listen to this with their voices in wrong places.

by Anonymousreply 110April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

Charles looks lost and bereft. Peter looks like he's walking to the pub with William. Unfortunate camera angle going around that first curve.

by Anonymousreply 111April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

Anne is creeping everyone out!

by Anonymousreply 112April 17, 2021 1:52 PM

Who’s behind Harry?

by Anonymousreply 113April 17, 2021 1:53 PM

Queen entering the chapel with the wives

by Anonymousreply 114April 17, 2021 1:53 PM

Prince William, dressing to the left. Nub. Ok I'll stop now.

by Anonymousreply 115April 17, 2021 1:53 PM

Albert too. A left hanger

by Anonymousreply 116April 17, 2021 1:53 PM

How ridiculous! Why is this preempting morning news! And why are they talking about Prince Harry when the most striking image is fat, lying, sexual predator Prince Andrew breathing the free air instead of rottng in prison. A depraved family.

by Anonymousreply 117April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

R110 I mean without their voice over in wrong places

by Anonymousreply 118April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

I'm dying to know what that note under the wreath says and whose handwriting it is

by Anonymousreply 119April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

R113, its Anne's husband...

by Anonymousreply 120April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

Philip's Nazi nephews are bringing up the rear.

by Anonymousreply 121April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

It's like a little village of grand castles! Who lives in all of them?

by Anonymousreply 122April 17, 2021 1:54 PM

Betty is a tough old broad. I do like Sophie Wessex and her kids.

by Anonymousreply 123April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

The tailors cut those trousers HIGH. Probably on purpose to show some royal power.

by Anonymousreply 124April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

How nice of them to honor America and play "My Country Tis of Thee"

by Anonymousreply 125April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

I was watching on ABC, but switched over to BBC.

So much more respectful. American anchors just can't shut up, they have the need to talk non stop through everything. It's like DL on television.

by Anonymousreply 126April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

That’s a SILLY WALK!

by Anonymousreply 127April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

Harry's gait is already different from all the other family/military. He's slouching, swinging his arms and moving his torso much more than anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 128April 17, 2021 1:55 PM

You mean Harry, R121?

by Anonymousreply 129April 17, 2021 1:56 PM

I just realized: The Range Rover says "Defender" across the front. Philip was considered a defender of the realm.

by Anonymousreply 130April 17, 2021 1:56 PM

The carrying of the coffin always makes me anxious!

by Anonymousreply 131April 17, 2021 1:56 PM

It's a Land Rover 'Defender', r130. The one the military used. You can buy one that says the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 132April 17, 2021 1:57 PM

Poor Anne!

by Anonymousreply 133April 17, 2021 1:57 PM

Defender is a model, R130.

by Anonymousreply 134April 17, 2021 1:57 PM

R131, why? Nothing is going to happen if they drop it.

by Anonymousreply 135April 17, 2021 1:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 136April 17, 2021 1:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 137April 17, 2021 1:58 PM

The Sigh as he's being carried in.

by Anonymousreply 138April 17, 2021 1:58 PM

Some fine looking pallbearers.

by Anonymousreply 139April 17, 2021 1:58 PM

So many exposed bald spots and pale English skin in direct sunlight. They'll all be passing around the aloe Vera this evening.

by Anonymousreply 140April 17, 2021 1:58 PM

The coffin carriers are fine until they get onto the slick stone inside the church, because they have metal studs in their shoes. This was apparently a huge problem during Diana's funeral and one nearly slipped.

by Anonymousreply 141April 17, 2021 1:59 PM

Thats gotta be one of the tensest jobs in the world.

by Anonymousreply 142April 17, 2021 1:59 PM

I knew it was a model, but I think it's interesting he chose that one specifically.

by Anonymousreply 143April 17, 2021 1:59 PM

That is his CA style R128. Shame how he treated Philip in his last weeks. Not choosing to visit him to say goodbye while having boasted of having a "jet on standbye" really showed his true character.

by Anonymousreply 144April 17, 2021 1:59 PM

All those pasty complexions. I hope they used adequate sunblock. Charles already looks red.

by Anonymousreply 145April 17, 2021 1:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 146April 17, 2021 2:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 147April 17, 2021 2:00 PM

Watching BBC, and appreciate that they are silent and don’t feel the need for constant chatter and commentary.

by Anonymousreply 148April 17, 2021 2:00 PM

With Philip's driving skills, he needed a military style Rover to protect him from life's little "bumps" in the road.

by Anonymousreply 149April 17, 2021 2:00 PM

R145, you should see his feet. I think he looks like a lobster under his clothes.

by Anonymousreply 176April 17, 2021 2:04 PM

Harry's moved behind Wills. Uh oh

by Anonymousreply 177April 17, 2021 2:05 PM

I noticed that too, R160. Harry must have forgotten his Adderral.

by Anonymousreply 178April 17, 2021 2:05 PM

This is the hardest part of being a pallbearer.

by Anonymousreply 179April 17, 2021 2:06 PM

This music was written in the 15th century

by Anonymousreply 180April 17, 2021 2:06 PM

With that mask and hat, Anne sort of looks like a Plague Doctor.

by Anonymousreply 181April 17, 2021 2:06 PM

The family must've received conflicting guidance regarding masks. Both Prince Charles and Sophie moved to rip their masks off as soon as they entered the church, but now they're still wearing them.

by Anonymousreply 182April 17, 2021 2:07 PM

So Peter Phillips walking between William and Harry in the procession was so that the brothers wouldn't be walking beside one another up the steps. Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 183April 17, 2021 2:07 PM

It's beautiful, R180.

by Anonymousreply 184April 17, 2021 2:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 185April 17, 2021 2:07 PM

R160, I think he’s scanning for snipers.

by Anonymousreply 186April 17, 2021 2:08 PM

No talking on CBC now either.

by Anonymousreply 187April 17, 2021 2:08 PM

Unless I'm mistaken it's Tallis. I've never heard it sung by only 4 people before.

by Anonymousreply 188April 17, 2021 2:08 PM

R183 It seems William is going full throttle on the "I'm the chosen one" thing.

by Anonymousreply 189April 17, 2021 2:08 PM

So sad...

Edward's VPL is barely detectable in the soft light of that hallowed space.

by Anonymousreply 190April 17, 2021 2:08 PM

Come on, Anne is Princess Royal and can wear anything she likes and she still looks Royal and fine

by Anonymousreply 191April 17, 2021 2:09 PM

That looks nothing like Edinburgh Castle on the flag smh.

by Anonymousreply 192April 17, 2021 2:09 PM

Camila needs to ease up on the Lady Clairol.

by Anonymousreply 193April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Not if Charlotte has anything to do with it, R189.

by Anonymousreply 194April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Did it look like Charles was going to cry at the start of the silence?

by Anonymousreply 195April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Is Charles thinking about how mean he was to him?

by Anonymousreply 196April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Camilla just moved in closer to Charles and looked like she squeezed his hand. Nice moment.

by Anonymousreply 197April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Charles looks like a beet with blue googly eyes glued on. What's up with that?

by Anonymousreply 198April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

"Eternal Father, Strong to Save." This is gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 199April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

The Queen sitting alone. Broken.

by Anonymousreply 200April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

Charles looks like a lobster...

by Anonymousreply 201April 17, 2021 2:10 PM

I loathe the socially distanced teensy tiny choir. He deserved better than that. Also why are the all alone in that giant space? Where in the chapel are they?

by Anonymousreply 202April 17, 2021 2:11 PM

Choir smells a bakery full

by Anonymousreply 203April 17, 2021 2:11 PM

I always think of James Cameron’s awful Titanic film when I hear this.

by Anonymousreply 204April 17, 2021 2:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 212April 17, 2021 2:13 PM

Ok, I'm lol at r205 comment

by Anonymousreply 213April 17, 2021 2:13 PM

R202, the choir is in the Nave. Acoustically, that's probably the best place for them to sing from: it's airy, with a high ceiling, and absolutely nothing to baffle the sound.

by Anonymousreply 214April 17, 2021 2:13 PM

R207, it’s a hand-written note from She Who Could Not Attend.

by Anonymousreply 215April 17, 2021 2:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 263April 17, 2021 2:22 PM

This guy's voice is beautiful. Very well trained singer.

I agree, R261!

Who is he?

by Anonymousreply 264April 17, 2021 2:22 PM

The music is very touching. Performed to perfection.

by Anonymousreply 265April 17, 2021 2:22 PM

I'm diggin' this singing quartet

by Anonymousreply 266April 17, 2021 2:22 PM

R242, the choir at St St George's chapel is a male voice choir, and they are wearing the normal robes of the choir. The female singer has been brought in to sing the soprano part, probably because a single boy chorister wouldn't have the volume to match the others, and they were limited to four singers.

by Anonymousreply 267April 17, 2021 2:23 PM

The men are lay clerks at the Chapel, but don't get carried away. "A lay clerk, also known as a lay vicar, is a term used in the United Kingdom to describe a male singer who sings in a cathedral choir or a choir belonging to a college of one of the large traditional universities. "

I don't know who the soprano is. I thought se might be a professional singer but they usual acknowledge them.

by Anonymousreply 268April 17, 2021 2:23 PM

Massive early 80s 'Flash Gordon' secondary bad guy costume vibes from the Archbishop's robes.

by Anonymousreply 269April 17, 2021 2:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 270April 17, 2021 2:23 PM

The whole funeral has been lovely and really what all royal funerals should aspire to be (pared down to family and a small choir...which has done a beautiful job).

by Anonymousreply 271April 17, 2021 2:23 PM

The other chorister is very cute and fuckable. I need to know who they are!!

by Anonymousreply 272April 17, 2021 2:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 296April 17, 2021 2:27 PM

R285, nothing today- nothing - is staged. This is ritual. Once you accept that, if not understand it, you'll worry less about matchy matchy.

by Anonymousreply 297April 17, 2021 2:27 PM

Poor Harry's head

by Anonymousreply 298April 17, 2021 2:27 PM

This is so eerie with the almost empty chapel. Philip would most likely be pleased that he died during a pandemic because it minimises the drama: no need for Harry to sit near Charles, Camilla, William or Kate and have their every interaction overanalysed.

by Anonymousreply 299April 17, 2021 2:27 PM

Bit rude to be on their phones.

by Anonymousreply 300April 17, 2021 2:27 PM

Orthodox prayer for the dead, sung in the Russian style. A very English funeral, but a nod to his religious roots.

by Anonymousreply 352April 17, 2021 2:36 PM

Would blame Q E II if she willed herself to die right now, with millions watching? I wouldn't.

She'd, for the first time, follow Prince Phillip...

by Anonymousreply 353April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

The one on our left has NOTHING on underneath

by Anonymousreply 354April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

I can't imagine what it must be like for the royals to live under the public gaze.

by Anonymousreply 355April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

Anne looks fine. She was the child Philip was closest to, and shared his interests more than the others, so it's no surprise she seems especially visibly saddened.

by Anonymousreply 356April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

I can't mourn Prince Phillips properly without a national holiday. Preferably on Monday.

by Anonymousreply 357April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

The choir director looks like he may be hot as well.

by Anonymousreply 358April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

Are they going to have a flyover afterwards? Philip loved flying.

by Anonymousreply 359April 17, 2021 2:37 PM

It's boring as fuck and this english liturgical music sucks. They should have had some Handel, Vivaldi or Monteverdi.

by Anonymousreply 360April 17, 2021 2:38 PM

That’s a lot of prayers, and Phil is still dead. Just sayin.

by Anonymousreply 361April 17, 2021 2:38 PM

r349 thanks, watching the wrong livestream apparently

by Anonymousreply 362April 17, 2021 2:38 PM

Quote]Meghan's hand-written card and carefully selected wreath

The card on the wreath left by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in St George’s Chapel was handwritten by Meghan, who is watching the funeral on television from the couple’s home in California.

Meghan was advised against making the flight, as she is heavily pregnant with her and Harry’s second child.

Meghan and Harry personally chose the locally sourced flowers for their tribute – including Acanthus mollis (Bear’s breeches), the national flower of Greece, to represent Philip’s heritage, and Eryngium (sea holly), to represent the Royal Marines.

The wreath also features campanula for gratitude and everlasting love, rosemary to signify remembrance, lavender for devotion, alongside roses as a nod to June – Philip’s birth month.

Is anyone watching Gayle and Scobie? What have they had to say?

by Anonymousreply 368April 17, 2021 2:39 PM

The brunette looks young.

by Anonymousreply 369April 17, 2021 2:39 PM

If they were catholic the fights would've started days ago and the queen would've thrown herself on the coffin by now.

[quote]A topless protester ran in front of a crowd near Windsor Castle shortly after the minute’s silence for the duke, shouting “save the planet”. Those choir robes hide how fat the singers really are. Their faces may be cute, but I bet they they have those fatty potato-like British bodies.

by Anonymousreply 378April 17, 2021 2:41 PM

One of the most Catholic funerals I've ever seen was that of Princess Grace. Heavy grief. Rainier and Caroline in particular looked shattered.

by Anonymousreply 379April 17, 2021 2:41 PM

R370 that sounds more like a Southern Baptist thing.

by Anonymousreply 380April 17, 2021 2:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 381April 17, 2021 2:41 PM

Pipes. Philip would have loved this.

by Anonymousreply 382April 17, 2021 2:42 PM

In order to mourn Our Great Overlord, Prince Pip, properly, I suggest we all make a Holy Pilgrimage to the Holy land of His birth - the Greek isle of Corfu.

Dear DLers - see you all there. We can all mourn, as we weep into out margaritas on the Greek beaches.

A Day of Great Mourning for our Dear Departed Aristocratic Overlord is in store!

R379 I remember at the time there was some criticism that they were too openly grief-stricken and not all stiff-upper-lip royal about it.

by Anonymousreply 391April 17, 2021 2:43 PM

If this were a black funeral, it would look like an episode from Glee.

by Anonymousreply 392April 17, 2021 2:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 393April 17, 2021 2:43 PM

Bagpipe guy needs to improvise. Put some stank on it!

by Anonymousreply 394April 17, 2021 2:43 PM

The piper walking away out of the chapel like that. No words. Simply beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 395April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

I'm betting £100 that Philips is NOT in that coffin.

by Anonymousreply 396April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

R381, it was probably The Garter King of Arms.

by Anonymousreply 397April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

While Harry was bowing his head praying or pretending to, the camera got a good shot of the enormous bald spot on top of his head. Where did he and Will get the male pattern baldness gene from? Prince Philip and Prince Charles both vaguely had hair into old age, Diana's father and Earl Spencer have thick hair.

by Anonymousreply 398April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

If the bagpiper disappears into the far wall but the music continues, this will be the best funeral ever.

by Anonymousreply 399April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 400April 17, 2021 2:44 PM

Philip was a first lieutenant, not even a general.

by Anonymousreply 430April 17, 2021 2:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 435April 17, 2021 2:49 PM

R413 As I always say, William looks like Diana on her left, and Harry resembles her on her right.

by Anonymousreply 466April 17, 2021 2:54 PM

r442, Philip was anything but coddled. His life before the Navy was tortured, his life in the Navy was very tough and full of WW2 action, and his life after marriage was full of courtiers mocking him for being German and shunting him to the side until he carved a position out for himself. After marriage he slept in a nice bed, and wore nice clothes, but he was not "coddled from cradle to grave". Quite the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 467April 17, 2021 2:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 506April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

Wrong, R488. Kate eventually fell back to walk with Sophie, and William and Harry continued walking and talking. Harry made a motion like he was playing a bugle, and William looked toward him and engaged in conversation.

Regardless of how this whole drama has played out, anyone who takes joy in two brothers remaining estranged is a vile asshole. I hope they’re well on the road to reconciliation.

by Anonymousreply 507April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

r487 Sophie is very close to the Queen. So when she revealed that publicly she would have had the Queens blessing.

by Anonymousreply 508April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

Are you speaking from personal experience, r500 ?

by Anonymousreply 509April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

So is it being lowered right now? With no one there?

by Anonymousreply 510April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

And it clocked in at just under an hour. Now it’s time to google the choir.

by Anonymousreply 511April 17, 2021 3:00 PM

R501, I’ll bet that was a firm instruction to all of them. Harry has to behave.

by Anonymousreply 512April 17, 2021 3:01 PM

I'm not surprised to see the the Cambridges and PH walking and talking together.

I told you bitches a few threads back that funerals have a way of allowing scores to settle.

William and Harry have probably been in the physical presence of each other since Harry arrived.

by Anonymousreply 513April 17, 2021 3:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 514April 17, 2021 3:01 PM

The BBC said the royals "drive back home" as is the rule. They said the Queen said goodbye to her cousins. I don't think there is an after meeting of any size at all. (wake?)

by Anonymousreply 517April 17, 2021 3:01 PM

William and Kate are very gracious to chat to Harry. Nice of them.

by Anonymousreply 518April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

[quote] Philip was anything but coddled. His life before the Navy was tortured, his life in the Navy was very tough and full of WW2 action, and his life after marriage was full of courtiers mocking him for being German

Boo hoo, R467. For his time period - yes, he was coddled. 80 million people died in WW2. Other people became disabled or were orphaned. Much of Europe was burned to the ground. Many people lost everything. There were entire cities that were encircled and starved. Almost every family in Europe had men recruited or volunteering to fight in the war, it wasn't just Philip. He was in the Navy, which was dangerous but far more privileged than the Infantry fighting the bloodiest battles (which was on the ground).

So, yes, compared to most of his European contemporaries - he was coddled.

by Anonymousreply 519April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

Charles wiped away tears.

by Anonymousreply 520April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

Why Anderson Cooper?

by Anonymousreply 521April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

I corrected myself R514 if you would bother to read.

by Anonymousreply 522April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

R500 has never worn Manolo Blahnik's.

by Anonymousreply 523April 17, 2021 3:02 PM

Quick -- somebody start a part 2!

by Anonymousreply 524April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

For a country and monarchy entirely funded from being imperialistic overlords over so many peoples over generations, and which now wishes to retain its mantle of the Commonwealth, this entire public ceremony was so very white.

by Anonymousreply 525April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

r519 does not know the first thing about Philip's life.

by Anonymousreply 526April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

R521, because some arrogant people think that they can turn their hands to anything, and that they know just as much about these things as experts.

by Anonymousreply 527April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

Will Harry just get a coach seat back to LA or will he be provided with a private jet if amends have been made?

by Anonymousreply 528April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

I tried to drop-off a casserole for the family at Windsor Castle, but they wouldn't accept it. How rude! I just know that Harry would have loved it.

by Anonymousreply 529April 17, 2021 3:03 PM

People like R525... Yikes. They walk among us.

by Anonymousreply 530April 17, 2021 3:04 PM

Bea’s hair extensions looks like they were pulled from a horse’s tail

by Anonymousreply 531April 17, 2021 3:04 PM

Me, too R507. I think the whole thing has been sad and hope it's a step towards reconciliation.

by Anonymousreply 532April 17, 2021 3:04 PM

Say what you want about his life, no denying he was a hot stud when he was young.

I'll start Part 2 when this hits 575 replies, r524

by Anonymousreply 534April 17, 2021 3:05 PM

Anyone know the layout of the vault?

by Anonymousreply 535April 17, 2021 3:05 PM

R526, I've read about his life and he has plenty of bootlickers sermonising him. He was still coddled for his time.

And you can bet that if the Germans ever captured him - he wouldn't be send to a work-camp like the rest of us proles.

by Anonymousreply 536April 17, 2021 3:05 PM

r525 and r536 have no place on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 537April 17, 2021 3:06 PM

It wouldn't have been so white if they had had the cast of Porgy and Bess singing My Man's Gone Now.

by Anonymousreply 538April 17, 2021 3:07 PM

Harry did bow, R468, but more from the side.

Has he always been so fidgety? Does he have ADHD? The slumping, looking all around, etc were not all that respectful.

by Anonymousreply 539April 17, 2021 3:07 PM

This is boring without any celebrities in attendance.

by Anonymousreply 541April 17, 2021 3:07 PM

This was greyed out? Why on earth?

The Cambridges and Harry were instructed to behave and make nice. I doubt there is any sincere goodwill there, but they behaved civilly and that’s all that matters.

I would hope that the brothers can reconcile between themselves but until Markle is gone, everyone should exercise caution.

by Anonymousreply 542April 17, 2021 3:07 PM

Seeing the Queen sitting by herself during the service was heartbreaking. I thought it was a beautiful service with a William, Harry, Kate reunion at the end.

by Anonymousreply 543April 17, 2021 3:07 PM

Harry's always been disrespectful, so that's not new.

by Anonymousreply 544April 17, 2021 3:08 PM

r531 Nevertheless I bet she has hot comforting passionate sex with her hunky husband tonight I like the thought that Beatrice will expect an orgasm tonight as that will help her during this sad time.

by Anonymousreply 545April 17, 2021 3:08 PM

Do you think the image of the queen alone in black will become the symbol of her reign, which began with such hope, ending in tatters and public cynicism, two dud sons, one a crim, married to a grifter; one grandson gone off to Yankieland and married to a another grifter. Turn off the lights, draw the curtains.

by Anonymousreply 546April 17, 2021 3:08 PM

R537 = haughty DL Hall Monitress who thinks he owns this site.

by Anonymousreply 547April 17, 2021 3:08 PM

He might well be on drugs, r539. Would explain a lot.

by Anonymousreply 548April 17, 2021 3:08 PM

How is it we know all the details about Meghan and Harry's bouquet and card?

by Anonymousreply 549April 17, 2021 3:09 PM

Wtf, R545. Whack the bishop and get it out of your system.

by Anonymousreply 550April 17, 2021 3:09 PM

r540 Any pictures of Princess Alexandra at the funeral?

by Anonymousreply 551April 17, 2021 3:09 PM

Something about CNN’s coverage really bothers me but I’m too lazy to try to figure out what channel bbc is.

by Anonymousreply 552April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

Because Gayle, r549

by Anonymousreply 553April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

No R547 There are billions of images of HM The Queen.

This will be but one of them, in a myriad of others.

by Anonymousreply 554April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

It would have been nice if in the funeral it had been acknowledged that Philip had to endure many vicious personal attacks against him by people falsely claiming that his political incorrectness was racist.

by Anonymousreply 555April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

Charles looked very ill. Does he drink alcohol? He has the coloring of an alcoholic.

by Anonymousreply 556April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

r550 I regularly do!

by Anonymousreply 557April 17, 2021 3:10 PM

Charles has never been known as a drunk, but he sure looks like one! Maybe he’s a late-in-life drunk.

by Anonymousreply 558April 17, 2021 3:11 PM

R552 I hate searching for channels, but's quick to type BBC. The letters are next to each other.

by Anonymousreply 559April 17, 2021 3:11 PM

R539 - If you think he's fidgety today, take a look at YT of his wedding. He was very very uncomfortable. There have also been videos of him sniffling, wiping nose constantly. Surprised no one has picked up on this before.

by Anonymousreply 560April 17, 2021 3:11 PM

The Beeb and Sky are both doing rehashes/post-funeral commentary. Show's over.

by Anonymousreply 561April 17, 2021 3:11 PM

Who failed Andrew? And Charles? Queen, Prince, or both? Or neither. Charles could have been kinder with Diana. Andrew is a true creep.

by Anonymousreply 562April 17, 2021 3:11 PM

R555, I think Prince Philip, unlike his detractors, had a full enough life that he didn't let it get him down.

by Anonymousreply 563April 17, 2021 3:12 PM

I'll bet any amount of money that Bea is pregnant and will announce it after a suitable period of mourning. Her ass looks LARGE from the back

by Anonymousreply 564April 17, 2021 3:12 PM

[quote]Really did not expect to see Harry chatting To William and Kate.

That's because you've created this fantasy soap opera storyline in your head which has nothing to do with any real knowledge of what the Royal Family dynamic truly is.

by Anonymousreply 565April 17, 2021 3:13 PM

[quote] I'm diggin' this singing quartet

It's a QUINTET. I'm singing too, you hateful f@ggots! I'm here too! LOOK AT ME!!!

by Anonymousreply 566April 17, 2021 3:13 PM

R549, Do you honestly think that the Harkles would make any kind of gesture without making sure their PR team got out the details?

by Anonymousreply 567April 17, 2021 3:14 PM

r564 I agree and it would be some nice positive news.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Kate is pregnant with her 4th child.

by Anonymousreply 568April 17, 2021 3:14 PM

R563, after marrying Liz, he had a cushy 'job' for life - never had to worry about losing his income, never had to worry about a mortgage, never had to worry about 'providing' for his many kids or grandkids

He was set for life, his kids and grandkids are set for life - so of course he had a "full life".

by Anonymousreply 569April 17, 2021 3:15 PM

I've seen a few images of Prince Charles' fingers (and one of his feet, which I did *not* need), and I'm starting to wonder whether he has some sort of connective tissue disease. My friend's dad had similar symptoms in his last few years.

Of course William and Kate are going to chat with Harry. It's the civil thing to do. Makes them look good, too. Are Harry's fans angry that he spoke to them, since they're so awful?

by Anonymousreply 572April 17, 2021 3:15 PM

Who does have real knowledge of the Royal Family dynamic?

by Anonymousreply 573April 17, 2021 3:15 PM

That little choir is going to have a hit single and album in no-time.

by Anonymousreply 574April 17, 2021 3:16 PM

R559 Thank you for pointing that out! It was just the push I needed to get over myself and switch over.

by Anonymousreply 575April 17, 2021 3:16 PM

Most of his harshest detractors, R569, don't have hard lives. They are newspaper columnists with nice houses in London. They are just malcontents and, by the way, very few have children to provide for.

by Anonymousreply 576April 17, 2021 3:16 PM

How on earth did this thread get grayed out?

by Anonymousreply 577April 17, 2021 3:16 PM

As in any dysfunctional family and this one's a doozy I'm sure the relationship between William and Harry has been irretrievably shattered. At least I hope so. It ups the entertainment factor and what else is a royal family for?

by Anonymousreply 578April 17, 2021 3:17 PM

Wow, we really are going to need another thread for this funeral! It’s over, but the coverage and discussion goes on.

by Anonymousreply 579April 17, 2021 3:17 PM

William and Harry's hair DNA is inherited from the mother. Google Charles Spencer or Diana's father and you will see what they can expect.

The royal vaults at St. George's used to be open for tours. I got to see King George VI and Queen Elizabeth's spots right after the QM and Margaret died. It's like a grotto.

by Anonymousreply 580April 17, 2021 3:17 PM

R576, it's a good thing that most of his subjects are obedient sheep.

Never question why there's a "Prince" in the 21st C. Never question "hereditary rights". Just be good little sheep.

by Anonymousreply 583April 17, 2021 3:19 PM

I think its creepy to be in a vault. In some cathedrals the grandes are on the main floor where there is sun and air when you look at their marker.

by Anonymousreply 584April 17, 2021 3:19 PM

It was the Japanese Pearl Choker. Very pretty, but kinda gaudy for a funeral, IMO.

On CNN a couple of Brits are claiming Harry is essential to Prince Charles' success as King. WTF? Harry's sitting on his ass with the D list actress in Hollywood. If he's so devoted to the military, he can join the US Army.

Now Anderson Cooper has announced "we will see how Meghan Markle has honored Prince Philip..." lol

by Anonymousreply 593April 17, 2021 3:23 PM

CNN's terrible on this, R593. Jeez.

by Anonymousreply 594April 17, 2021 3:24 PM

Good thread, bitches. See you in the next one.

by Anonymousreply 595April 17, 2021 3:25 PM

Megs honored him by staying home

by Anonymousreply 596April 17, 2021 3:25 PM

Meh. I was hoping for Meghan Markle and Piers Morgan crashing the funeral totally smashed and making out on the casket, followed by a Benny Hill type of chase. Now, that would be traditional.

by Anonymousreply 597April 17, 2021 3:25 PM

R589 / R590 - oh, I'm into this. It's always amusing to see the sheep follow their Holy Hereditary Overlord.

by Anonymousreply 598April 17, 2021 3:25 PM

r577, The Megstans greyed the thread out. They love that Philip has died and are delighted to see the family in pain, because they are psychotic. Only psychos worship psycho Meghan.

Part 2 is up and you know they're busily working away, greying it out as we speak. It'll be greyed out by reply 25.

by Anonymousreply 599April 17, 2021 3:26 PM

R593, Anderson Cooper has no mind of his own, so if the prevailing view is that we must all worship Black Queen Meghan, he'll do it.

by Anonymousreply 600April 17, 2021 3:26 PM

R525 Surprising that there were no regiments from any of these Commonwealth countries, particularly given the lifelong support of Prince Philip and the Queen. This was not a private ceremony after all.

Anderson Cooper is in on the joke. You can see, to use a trite phrase, buried laughter in his eyes, when reporting on the Cambridges v. Sussexes.

by Anonymousreply 603April 17, 2021 3:27 PM

There was a Benny Hill streaker at the funeral. BBC did not mention it. True.

by Anonymousreply 604April 17, 2021 3:27 PM

Interesting how Catherine had to make it all about her and wear particular pieces of jewelry.

You bet your bottom dollar, that dullard William was onto The Queen to secure those pieces for her.

Nauseating, PR manipulaters the both of them.

by Anonymousreply 605April 17, 2021 3:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 606April 17, 2021 3:29 PM

As they say the names of the courtiers who are responsible for coordinating all today's events, I think of all the people who've been the Queen's Private Secretary and all the other offices in her household over the years. Arranging things, making plans, trying to solve problems, running schedules and events, keeping things going in fair order. They all retire, someone moves up, has to learn more, probably finally get a handle on it for a decade or two . . . and then retires. Hire, train, work, retire. Over and over, hundreds of staff, probably thousands.

And the Queen never retires.
