It was fascinating a couple weeks ago when her hook-up malfunctioned and she was gone for the rest of the show. Replaced by that Hispanic guy who shows-up on weekends (forget his name). Then Ali Velshi came on for the rest of her show because he was in for Lawrence the next hour anyway.

It just shows you there is a backup plan if things go wrong (like Rachel shoots herself on live TV... or something).

Maddow's 'shtick' is quoting her sources verbatim and at length, and weaving an interesting, sometimes humorous narrative story around them. It works for me.
