Dear U.K. DLers, why is there such a dearth of celebrities, presenters, and chat/quiz show panelists?
I recently watched a few episodes of 'The Big Fat Quiz of Everything' which is quite amusing. But it led me to similar shows like 'QI' and '8 Out of 10 Cats,' and it was all the same people; Richard Ayoade, Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding, Jonathan Ross (Woss), etc.
Why are there only a dozen or so 'celebrities,' and why do U.K. viewers endure these sometimes annoyingly few clever people?

Think about who we would have to fill those roles here in the US -people who are clever, funny, informed, and quick on their feet. And still living. It's a very small group, too.

R1 I cannot imagine who'd fill those chat show roles in the US. Names like the "hilarious" Ross Matthews enter my mind. *shudder*

I can think of two dozen U.S. comics who are also smart commentators and not complete assholes like Maher's guests. I find it funny that they act antagonistic to each other on one quiz show, then are pals on another.
