Good for them. Meanwhile, the sitcom is excruciatingly bad.

by Anonymousreply 1April 15, 2021 1:50 AM

Oooooh, I’m neither this nor that!

by Anonymousreply 2April 15, 2021 1:51 AM

Who the fuck is this dyke?

by Anonymousreply 3April 15, 2021 1:55 AM

Peter Pan beckons?

by Anonymousreply 4April 15, 2021 2:02 AM

Does he present hole?

by Anonymousreply 5April 15, 2021 2:06 AM

Her Netflix show is painful. I couldn’t make it through the pilot.

She’s a basic butch lesbian - since when is that non binary??? Attention seeking bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 6April 15, 2021 2:20 AM

Is this what nobodies are doing to get attention now?

by Anonymousreply 7April 15, 2021 2:39 AM

Celia Rubinstein was a friend to all mankind.....

WHO??!!!

I had them pegged as a ventriloquist’s dummy.

by Anonymousreply 9April 15, 2021 2:46 AM

O I remember her. She has a bit in her stand-up how everyone assumes she is gay when she's actually bi. Maybe Joe Lycett and her should form a group.

by Anonymousreply 10April 15, 2021 2:51 AM

Joe Lycett outed a young actor, recently, didn't he?

by Anonymousreply 11April 15, 2021 2:53 AM

Alison Arngrim looks great!

by Anonymousreply 12April 15, 2021 2:58 AM

[quote] She has a bit in her stand-up how everyone assumes she is gay when she's actually bi.

The chances she ever had live dick in her are about as high as those of Ross Mathews ever eating pussy.

by Anonymousreply 13April 15, 2021 3:19 AM

She looks like a twink

by Anonymousreply 14April 15, 2021 3:27 AM

Well chop off my tits and call me Cal!

by Anonymousreply 15April 15, 2021 3:31 AM

I recently read that Allison Gill of the podcast Mueller, She Wrote is now saying she’s trans. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 16April 15, 2021 4:16 AM

Can you come out if nobody knows who you are?

by Anonymousreply 17April 15, 2021 7:06 AM

R11, he outed the lead actor from The End of the F*****g World but let's just that the guy in question hardly oozed masculinity.

by Anonymousreply 18April 15, 2021 7:12 AM

Am twirling in my Vagina Cape with excitement as I type!

Free strap-ons for everyone!

by Anonymousreply 19April 15, 2021 7:16 AM

You can come out *so that* people know who you are - i.e. a minor celebrity can come out (but only as "non-binary" or "trans" - gay and lesbian are very passé) and get favorable media coverage, both when they come out and later when the media are reluctant to give bad reviews. This is a good career move on her part.

by Anonymousreply 20April 15, 2021 7:18 AM

Not so long ago, demanding to be called 'them' would have you diagnosed with schizophrenia.

by Anonymousreply 21April 15, 2021 7:21 AM

Oh honey. You're not non-binary, you're just boring and don't have any real problems.

by Anonymousreply 22April 15, 2021 7:22 AM

R19, I'm not sure how Sara and other attendees at MichFest (may its memory be for a blessing) would feel about this. Radical feminists are definitely very anti-transgenderism and presumably anti-NB because these two ideologies redefine womanhood as a set of behaviours (rather than sex) and thus limit women who wish to live as unconventional women without identifying as male.

Worship of one's own female body was, for example, a staple activity at MichFest whereas this girl's first act will no doubt be to have her tits lopped off.

by Anonymousreply 23April 15, 2021 7:23 AM

R16 im not seeing this anywhere online. Maybe it's Another Allison gill

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2021 7:26 AM

She's got Rami Malek eyes.

by Anonymousreply 25April 15, 2021 7:31 AM

Is it they IS or they ARE ? Which is correct ?

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2021 7:40 AM

In what way has she ‘come out’, when over a year ago it was published that she also used ‘they’ and claimed to have had relationships with both men and women?

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2021 7:40 AM

LOL who?

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2021 7:42 AM

It's "they are", for example: Have you heard about Sam Smith? They are hoping to become a mother.

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2021 7:44 AM

r13 Oh how wrong you are. This new generation of soft butch women actually all go after men - often gay/bi men specifically. I bet she has a BF actually. Her whole thing is about how she isnt gay, thats literally why she has an ounce of recognition and then Netflix tried to make her happen and as she is an unfunny hack; no one bit. As r27 points out, this chick has been 'non binary' for years!!! Pink news has been calling her 'they' for literal years. Its like being in some alternative universe. She has literally already come out as this before. Fuck queers.

Also taking bets that she transitions into a 'gay man' in T-minus 2 years.

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2021 7:45 AM

How in the hell can ONE PERSON be a 'THEY'?

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2021 7:45 AM

r29 I guess its lucky that 'they' recently came out as pansexual and 'open to all genders' - not wanting to 'limit' themselves - as HE will need a FEMALE one way or another to have a child. Even if he calls himself the mom and her the father.

by Anonymousreply 32April 15, 2021 7:47 AM

R29 Mother is not non binary.

by Anonymousreply 33April 15, 2021 7:53 AM

r33 You are using reason and logic on queer theory, sweetie. Thats a no no!

by Anonymousreply 34April 15, 2021 7:58 AM

Sam Smith would then be called the non-gestational parent

by Anonymousreply 35April 15, 2021 8:00 AM

R33, Sam Smith himself has said that he wants to be a "mummy" or some rubbish. As R34 said, don't look for logic or consistency in queer theory - it's just a load of rubbish that finds easy marks in stupid or troubled people (Sam Smith is both).

by Anonymousreply 36April 15, 2021 8:48 AM

Okay, I was just getting used to Colton Underwood...never heard of him until today, and now here comes Mae Martin. Don't know her, or fill in the pronoun.

And what the hell is nonbinary?

by Anonymousreply 37April 15, 2021 8:53 AM

r37, 'Mentally Ill'

by Anonymousreply 38April 15, 2021 8:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 43April 15, 2021 9:37 AM

Btw... Queer Theory used to be something very cool to read about before the creepy non-sense trans shit coopted it

by Anonymousreply 44April 15, 2021 10:32 AM

You know what... the only NB or whatever I’ve been friends with, a lovely lady a lot of the time, just a soft butch- she makes thinks up as she goes along, history of abuse, she has a personality disorder... she’s absolutely an autoandrophilic. Shits gotta be called WHAT IT IS

by Anonymousreply 45April 15, 2021 10:39 AM

R31, 'they' has been used in the singular since at least the 14th century.

I think Mae Martin has a great androgynous look.

by Anonymousreply 46April 15, 2021 10:57 AM

I'm glad I'm on the verge of being old, maybe I can use it as an excuse not to have to learn what to have to call everyone.

by Anonymousreply 47April 15, 2021 11:14 AM

This degree of navel-gazing is not a good look.

No one -- not even your family or friends or lovers -- cares about the painful minutiae of your identity. Most people are FAR less interesting than they realize.

Also, this decedent self-absorption implies a lot of privilege that never seems to get checked. I doubt prisoners in a North Korean labor camp or Filipino "workers" trapped in Dubai wax poetic about their "identity."

by Anonymousreply 48April 15, 2021 11:20 AM

[quote]I'm ternary.

Why didn't I think of that?!

by Anonymousreply 49April 15, 2021 11:30 AM

R48 Amen, honey!

[quote] I'm ternary.

[quote](That's THREE genders, dontchaknow.)

[quote]Jealous, bitches?

Oh yeah? Well I’m Quantumary. I am any and all genders simultaneously, but only settle on one when someone looks at me.

LOOK AT ME!

by Anonymousreply 51April 15, 2021 11:48 AM

Careful, R51, it sounds like you are close to becoming a Weeping Angel, quantum locked, and only able to move when observed. If this happens, you will be forced to lurk, waiting for a victim to attack and send back in time so you can feed off of the quantum energies that result.

by Anonymousreply 52April 15, 2021 12:01 PM

R52 It’s the other way round. Weeping Angels move when they are not observed

by Anonymousreply 53April 15, 2021 12:12 PM

You are right of course, R53, I'm not quite awake yet

by Anonymousreply 54April 15, 2021 12:33 PM

R25, that’s a great song.

by Anonymousreply 55April 15, 2021 12:42 PM

Is she sixpence none the richer?

by Anonymousreply 56April 15, 2021 12:44 PM

I'm so confused.

I know what gay is; I know what straight is; bisexual too. But what is non-binary? Are you a big nothing? A floating bunch of possibilities?????

Does anyone know????

by Anonymousreply 57April 15, 2021 12:51 PM

Any one who can’t see that this is a social contagion is blind.

by Anonymousreply 58April 15, 2021 12:54 PM

Would someone non-binary be able to attend Michfest?

by Anonymousreply 59April 15, 2021 1:00 PM

Michfest is for real women who also identify as women. A non-binary (refusing to be a woman or man) would be the first to go berserk if someone refers to 'it' as a woman.

by Anonymousreply 60April 15, 2021 1:08 PM

decadent at r48 and "oh, dear" myself

by Anonymousreply 61April 15, 2021 1:09 PM

I've absolutely had it with hearing about pronouns. It's such a "look at me" thing, especially for so-called nonbinaries. If they didn't announce it, no one would know or care, so, clearly, the whole point is to get people talking about you and walking on eggshells about how they refer to you in the third person. It's insanity.

Also, there's no Michfest anymore.

by Anonymousreply 62April 15, 2021 1:11 PM

R57, the things you say you understand are all different places on the sexuality spectrum. This gender stuff is entirely different, though you'd be forgive for thinking otherwise given how they've been lumped together in all those dreadful acronyms like LGBT.

by Anonymousreply 63April 15, 2021 2:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 65April 15, 2021 2:22 PM

Ngl, R65, it was traumatic at first when I noticed my error. I could hear the billow of the caftans and the jangle of the earrings as their wearers leaned into the computer keyboard to type, "Oh, dear!"

by Anonymousreply 66April 15, 2021 2:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 72April 15, 2021 7:17 PM

I understand what you're saying, R72, and totally agree that Mae Martin is singular and not plural herself, and so we should say "she is"*. However, in the weird and wacky world of gender identity, they would say "they are" as opposed to "they is", even for an individual person.

*Folks, don't give me that shit about "they" having been used for individuals for centuries, - it was only ever used for unknown people whose sex was, by extension, also unknown. Once the identity of the individual is established, the sex is also immediately established, and one reverts to using "he" and "she".

by Anonymousreply 73April 15, 2021 7:40 PM

Radical feminists are definitely very anti-transgenderism and presumably anti-NB because these two ideologies redefine womanhood as a set of behaviours (rather than sex) and thus limit women who wish to live as unconventional women without identifying as male.

When I did a bit of reading about what was then called the "lesbian separatist" movement in the 1970s, this question already was coming up in women's communities.

The quote that stuck with me was "You can shoot an apple up with orange juice, but it's still an apple."

by Anonymousreply 74April 15, 2021 8:15 PM

If it makes you feel better.

I dunno, maybe though working on your own life and happiness would make you less eager to rant and rage online about how other people who have nothing to do with you are living their lives. Just a suggestion.

by Anonymousreply 75April 15, 2021 8:37 PM

Do we have any non-binary folks on DL? I have a ton of questions.

by Anonymousreply 76April 15, 2021 8:43 PM

If imagining themselves to be transgender or non-binary makes people happy, then "More power to your elbow", I say! To each his own. (Having said that, I have seldom seen an unhappier bunch.)

You say that I should use the correct "he"/"she" pronouns when a person's identity and sex are established if it makes me feel better - but this is not a question of making me feel better, it is a question of the truth.

And to the extent that I am ranting and raging (one usually rants and raves, by the way), it is because I cannot stand disingenuousness in argument, such as the common lie that "they" has been in common use for discrete individuals for centuries.

by Anonymousreply 77April 15, 2021 8:46 PM

I watched two episodes of FEEL GOOD and I first thought Martin was a trans woman as she's as flat-chested as a man. The show is too hyper and I can't believe Martin's GF on the show doesn't run as fast from her as she can given Mae's pathologically needy behavior. She'd certainly freak out any rational person.

We can choose our gender now?

Where the hell have I been?

by Anonymousreply 93November 18, 2021 10:43 PM

I'm amazed by the sudden requirement to tell people what "gender" you identify as. Can you imagine introducing yourself, saying your name and that you are gay when you meet a stranger? Or introducing yourself and proclaiming what medications you're on? What mental illnesses you have? What religion you are? Who the fuck cares what magical thinking you have about boyhood or girlhood or themhood? Just tell me your name, which I'll forget in 3 minutes anyway.

by Anonymousreply 99November 18, 2021 11:11 PM

I watched some of their series "Feel Good." It was single-handedly the most narcissistic, self-referential program EVER. Just her talking about herself, analyzing herself, performing her act - which is all about analyzing herself, etc. She's unbearable. Also: not a very good comedian.

by Anonymousreply 100November 18, 2021 11:30 PM

She is a spoiled rich girl doing what spoiled rich girls do for attention. Its just that 'queer'/ gender stuff is the current du jour thing for rebellious 'young' (she isnt even that young) girls. So pedestrian.

by Anonymousreply 101November 19, 2021 4:08 AM

Mae Martin has done an interview where she talks about having a double mastectomy which means she can now model men's clothes.

[quote]Late last year, Martin had top surgery. There were only a couple of weeks to recover, over Christmas at their parents’ place in Toronto, before getting back to work as an actor, filming a new role in the second series of HBO’s The Flight Attendant. (“It’s like explosions and gunfights. It’s juicy. Totally out of my comfort zone.”) Martin had been binding their chest during the initial period of filming, so continuity wasn’t an issue post-surgery. “It’s so not the most interesting thing about me,” Martin is quick to point out. “It’s just one facet of who I am. But I know also that visibility is super important. So it’s always a [question of] oversharing and over-focusing on something that’s ultimately just one small part of me.”

The best line from the interview

[quote]I just feel like myself. I don’t even feel nonbinary. I just wake up, have a coffee and go to work.

by Anonymousreply 105June 6, 2022 3:23 PM

If they choose to be known as "they", it seems as though they are claiming to be a little of each - female/male, or none of either. But that doesn't make any sense, at least to me. If you say you are neither, shouldn't you be known as an "it" or some other evasive term? I ask this sincerely.

I don't get where her feeling of being unsafe stems from. You get hit on a a bar just say, "No thnaks." They persist, say "Fuck off." End of.

Also queer but asexual...how does that work?

by Anonymousreply 110June 6, 2022 10:48 PM

r110 Its lunacy. The fact we are just supposed to nod along and act like she has any kind of view point to add to the gay world is just bonkers. And its just another iteration of the Mae thing which is why I posted it; basically str8 women, who feel entitled not only to grasp onto the gay community, but to claim it as their own, police the thoughts of actual gay people etc etc.

Mae is an unbelievably privileged lady, look her up. But now, with a new sacred label, she can pretend to be some down trodden victim for even more media attention.

Queer is anyone "not cis het" - or even cis hets who are "not conforming to cishetnormativity (like fatties)" - aka any weirdo who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lots of LGBs claiming to be Queer. Trans and Non-binaries (who claim to be either also trans or under the trans umbrella) and Genderfluids = also Queer. Asexuals and Aromantics (aka "A") = also Queer.

Seriously?

Maybe because I've been pretty much out since my teens and was bullied at school for being a queer I don't wake up and obsess about being gay. Like Martin I also have a coffee and go to work. I worry about whether my useless colleague is going to blame me for not doing things she is responsible for, I worry about whether it's going to rain so I can eat my lunch in the park, I worry about whether the train will be on time, I worry about other things in life.

R102 nothing says "be yourself" like lopping off your tits.

I read this as "Mary Martin Comes Out as Non- Binary!!!" which was a confusing way to start the day.

She/they/Mae looks like Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, most famous for his shirtless role as The Gay in Hunky Dory.

But she isn't as pretty and doesn't have pecs like him.

r122

So you judge people for worrying about stuff that you don't worry about? You, Sir, are a cunt.

[quote]Asexuals and Aromantics (aka "A") = also Queer.

Who in the world is coming up with all of these "rules?" It's starting to get overwhelming which is why I mostly try to ignore it. But alas, come every June...

With all do respect, as someone who actually is asexual, I strongly disagree with this assessment, r117. I am not "queer" and refuse to identify as such. I'm old enough to remember when that was a slur for gay men. It, legit, feels wrong and mildly uncomfortable to label myself with the term for that reason.
