r3 i grew up in the 70s and 80s and i recall nightgowns that looked EXACTLY like that on the cover of the Sears Holiday catalogs (although usually in red plaid flannel). Those look less like dresses and more like the nightgowns i remember.

There was a brief spell In the late 70s where these frumpy, old timey dresses were popular, I thought they were Gunne Sax (maybe not) & very expensive, they looked straight from Little House on the Prairie. Very lady, rust/brownish colors, ugh. The fad didn’t last long, they remind me a bit of these maxis, very unflattering & matronly for younger girls.

There were also maxi skirts and maxi overcoats - i remember my cousin wore them to Brigham Young University- yes, she went thru a Mormon period
