"Who" is probably a mystery for the ages.
"When" is another issue.
The first time I remember seeing it was in the era of the original Dialing the Phone with a Pencil thread - though I cannot say for certain it was actually in that thread.

Somebody was strongly opposed to smelling cookies in that old thread.
My goodness, and I thought I needed dick.

Yeah but if you watch the original Dov Davidoff bit linked in the thread, it's kind of offensive. He doesn't mean it in a positive way.

Great find r2, thank you for posting, I'd never seen the original video.
Did Dane Cook steal the joke or is the Urban Dictionary just wrong, anyone know?

He was the cousin of Cookie Monster who got banned from [italic]Sesame Street[/italic] for constantly looking up women’s dresses.

Who’s a homophobic trope from some homophobic comedian. Datalounge loves it. I just accept it as homophobia people around here find amusing.

I think UD is just wrong r7, if you search for Dov Davidoff "smelling cookies" you get hits, but not if you search for Dane Cook "smelling cookies."

I don't think we got "smelling cookies" from either of them.
"Smelling cookies" has been part of the DL lexicon for much longer.

It goes back at least to 2011.
But, based on the tone of this thread, it had already been around a lot longer than that, as it was so commonly used that newbies were trying to figure out what it means.

I think it started the night Dov Davidoff used the line when he was on Chelsea Lately, here's a thread from 2010 about it.

The reason I think the thread at R16 is the original is because I remember #93 saying "All the lesians I have seen all look like they just heard a car being broken into," which later turned into "lesbians look like they just heard the car alarm go off."

My friends used to say it in the late 90s. I don’t know where they got it from.
