Did I mention their acting talent? I did not, though I don't particularly care for Chloe's acting. Cate is definitely a good and versatile actress.

I mentioned them both in the context of being 'shoved in our faces' as being some sort of fashion icons. Why are actual models pushed aside by celebrities who are now used for fashion ad campaigns and even fashion mag editorials. I work in advertising, I see this all the time. I assume because so many people are incredibly gullible, they see a famous person in designer items, usually someone they admire, then want to buy those items.

I've lived through many eras of fashion and true fashion icons, neither of these women I mentioned meet those high standards of true individuality and style.

Slapping on expensive designer clothing or dressing in vintage doesn't make these women fashion icons or anyone to emulate. A person is either born with style and charisma or they aren't. I think about that a lot, R113. Spader kind of disappeared in 1997 (which I assumed was fallout from Crash) but you can find photos of him at events in 1999 and he still looked fine. By 2000 in The Watcher, he was looking rough, and by 2001 he looked like a 50-year-old lesbian.

I was sort of a defender of Frances McDormand for a while, but her schtick is out of control. Always looking like someone at the end of stage 4 cancer for decades really is ridiculous.

And feature by feature she’s really very attractive. She probably works harder looking like shit than she would spending some time with a stylist.

As a human being he was "a shit" according to Billy Wilder (the two of them did not get along during the filming of "Sabrina"). I think his appeal was mainly due to the fact he came off like a 'man's man'. His characters were blunt, gruff, no bs types, and he played them well, because he was playing himself. He was also SMART, he knew which scripts to pick (for the most part), unlike the aforementioned George Raft, who is only, barely remember for his brief appearance in Some Like It Hot.
