How many of you still use furniture polish?

This is just a silly Sunday question that popped into my head.

And yes R1, I realize that this is a stupid question and that you leave such trivial concerns, like furniture polish, to the help. But for everyone else...

All the time... now, I’ll have to let you go Betty because I’ve got a pot roast in the oven and I want to polish my furniture and wax the floors before Ralph gets home

Polish furniture? I would prefer Chinese Modern.

by Anonymousreply 2April 11, 2021 9:30 PM

I use it to polish my (door) knob

by Anonymousreply 3April 11, 2021 9:32 PM

You mean something other than Pledge or similar?

My cleaning lady still insists on using Pledge when cleaning, and I do like the results.

Why aren't you dusting with Plaaaadge?

by Anonymousreply 5April 11, 2021 9:39 PM

It could be Pledge, Endust, Behold, or Favor R4

My mother probably used a million cans of Lemon Pledge over her lifetime. I've been permanently scarred from that scent so no furniture polish in my house.

by Anonymousreply 7April 11, 2021 9:41 PM

An antiques dealer told me not to use Pledge as it coats the wood in petroleum derivatives without nourishing it. I use a spray polish made of olive oil and orange oil.

by Anonymousreply 8April 11, 2021 9:46 PM

R8 Your dealer told you right. On wood at least avoid petroleum-based "polishes." Beeswax- or carnuba-based polishes are what you want.

by Anonymousreply 9April 11, 2021 10:02 PM

I use that English one, but I wear a mask and plastic gloves--that stuff is hellastrong.

by Anonymousreply 10April 11, 2021 10:04 PM

I like my wood like I like my men—blond and naked.

by Anonymousreply 11April 11, 2021 10:05 PM

I haven’t even dusted in the past 6 months. It hasn’t seemed essential since I’m living in isolated seclusion until The Plague passes over the house.

by Anonymousreply 12April 11, 2021 10:09 PM

Seriously, I've used the original formula Armor All on my furniture for years. Cleans, polishes, and protects from spills. Still looks great after twenty+ years.

by Anonymousreply 13April 11, 2021 10:13 PM

I mostly use a Swiffer but do use a spray on my desk at least once a week. The desk is dark stained wood and shows every speck of dust.

by Anonymousreply 14April 11, 2021 10:55 PM

Yes OP. Lavender-scented beeswax polish. Thanks for reminding me I need to polish the dresser in the drawing room.
