I don't think she's hated. She's just not thought of very much at all.

I was about to say 'is she hated?' I've never heard that.

I will say I saw her on that roundtable show where all the actors sit around and talk to each other, and she has a curious inability to read the room. She was clearly getting on the others' nerves, bringing everything back to sex every two minutes. Like, it seemed pretty clear she chose the roles she did because of wanting to work through her own issues on sex, and didn't seem to understand that not everyone thinks like her.

That smirk.

I can’t wait to see The Lost Daughter with Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson. I loved the book by Elena Ferrante and it’s a project I can imagine Maggie Gyllenhaal herself in as at least 2 of the characters.

Though she’s a good actor Olivia Colman doesn’t have the sexual energy to attract both Ed Harris and Paul Mescal.

I think she’s a terrific actress, but people think she’s ugly. I think she’s jolie laide.

She’s got a smug hipster thing going on that rubs people the wrong way.

She comes across as bratty.

(and her husband seems so gay. I wonder what the fight he had with Jake on Jarhead was about. They stopped talking to each other.)

I don't think she's ugly, but I do think she's an average actress whose performances aren't very interesting or exciting to me. Maybe she'll be a good director; I haven't seen "The Lost Daughter". I think Jake is a much better actor.

Love her as an actress. Completely agree about the smug hipster thing.

Jake, yes.

Maggie, from what I've heard, used to be but I think aging and having kids has mellowed her out. I've heard nothing but nice things from anyone I know that has run into her. We crossed paths when I was younger and she was nothing but kind to me but it was brief.

She's a fantastic actress and actually takes what she does seriously. She's also much better looking than you'd expect in person.

I think you get a pretty good sense of her here.

She was really fucking good in The Deuce.

Oh I've skied with Maggie and Inès de la Fressange in Megève. She's droll and marrante yet can out cunt the cuntiest.

I find both her and her brother to be smug, obnoxious and so utterly pleased with themselves

She was fantastic in The Honourable Woman.

Part of the disdain is as simple as: sexist man-children being themselves. They feel hostile towards women who aren't conventionally attractive. How dare this ugly person appear on my screen? They are downright offended by her playing the love interest described by the Joker as "beautiful" in their favorite movie, The Dark Knight.

Homelier than a dog’s ass and a smug, average actress. Never would’ve made it in showbiz without her parents’ connections.

Amazing work on television in the last few years with The Honourable Woman and The Deuce. If this were the ‘70s, she’d be headlining studio dramas and regularly getting Oscar nods but sadly we’re no longer in that world.

She looks like her mother squeezed her legs together as she was being born.

And, yes, the smirk.

I can’t look at her or Kirsten Dunst. They both hurt my eyes.
